Do you like watching TV or playing video games? How long do you use your phone a day? We call the time we spend on the new technologies like TV, computers and mobile phones “screen time”. If you spend too much time on the screen, you are at risk of a lifetime of health problems, such as obesity (肥胖症) and eye problems, according to a study.
The study was carried out by World Cancer Research Fund (WCRF, 世界癌症研究基金会) in the UK. It found some actions-like looking at a smartphone or an iPad for a long time-are among the causes of obesity. It shows that obesity has something to do with several kinds of cancer, but physical activities can make that risk low.
“New technologies make people spend a lot more time sitting long, such as sitting in cars, watching television and using computers, smartphones and so on,” the study said. “Less exercise has caused a number of health problems like breathing difficulty, a racing heart, poor bones (骨头) and stress.”
According to the study, 14.1 million people across the world had cancer in 2012 and 8.2 million died from cancer, but about 40% of the cancer cases (病例) can be stopped. “Cancer cases will increase (增加) to 21.7 million by 2030, so something must be done.” it said.
WCRF also says that a lot more snacks will be eaten as a result of spending too much time on the screen and not doing exercise.
26. What causes our risk of a lifetime of health problems?
A. Spending long hours on the screen. B. Using new technologies to work and study.
C. Doing exercise in a wrong way. D. Eating a lot more snacks in their life.
27. What’s the writer’s attitude (态度) towards the new technologies in this text?
A. Unconcerned. B. Hopeful. C. Negative. D. Positive.
28. How can we avoid having cancer according to the study?
A. By going to see a doctor. B. By choosing healthy snacks. C. By eating less food every day. D. By doing exercise.
29. What can we learn from the passage?
A. All the new technologies will result in cancer. B. Some kinds of cancer can cause obesity.
C. People should find more ways to keep cancer away. D. More people will get cancer and die in five years.
30. What’s the structure (结构) of the passage? (P1 = Paragraph 1, P2 = Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.
A 27. C 28. D 29. C 30. B
根据原文第1段第4句“If you spend too much time on the screen, you are at risk of a lifetime of health problems, such as obesity and eye problems, according to a study.”
文中第3段第1句“New technologies make people spend a lot more time sitting long, such as sitting in cars, watching television and using computers, smartphones and so on”,提到新科技让人们久坐,进而引发肥胖、癌症、呼吸困难、心跳加速等多种健康问题,体现出作者对新科技的消极态度,Negative意为“消极的”。

(C)
When it comes to staying healthy, eating habits play a key role. We know that breakfast is the most important meal of the day, and we have lunch breaks at school. However, is this the healthiest way to eat? Should we eat three meals a day? Before thinking about how often we should eat, scientists advise us to think about when we should eat. For example, some people might overeat at night, which is not a good time to eat too much food.
Intermittent fasting (间歇性断食), which means stopping eating food for many hours, has become a popular topic of the research. It allows our stomach to rest. It helps our body to clear broken proteins (蛋白质), and protects us against many diseases (疾病).
But if intermittent fasting is a healthy way to eat, how many meals should we eat every day? Some experts argue that it is best to have one meal a day. David Levitsky, professor at Cornell University, does this himself. Wouldn’t one meal a day make us feel hungry? Not always, because hunger is often a feeling. Sometimes, we might think we are hungry, but in fact, we aren’t.
Another expert, Manoogan, doesn’t agree with it. He says it can make our blood glucose (血糖) rise. To keep our blood glucose low, we need to eat regularly. “Two or three meals a day is the best. And we should eat most of our food earlier in the day. Then our bodies can use the energy from our food all day, instead of saving it as fat.”
Even if intermittent fasting is the healthiest way to eat, it may not be a good idea for everyone. If you want to try it, remember to check with your doctor first.

But when she grew up, she became a reporter. ____36____ But Jenny thought that her shyness made her a better reporter. “Being shy makes me more believable-people feel more comfortable around me,” she said.
The Shyness Institute reports that almost half of all people say that they are shy. Some people are not shy when they are with their friends. ____37____ For other people, shyness can be a mental (精神的) problem. They become so worried that they cannot speak in front of people.
But why are some people shy?
Scientists once did a study on two-month-old babies. They found that of every five babies, one was very active (活跃的). ____38____ And one of every five babies was always quiet. These babies might be shy when they grew up.
Family also affects shyness. ____39____ Studies show that children who are shy usually have parents that have fewer friends and fewer family activities.
People who are outgoing are sometimes more successful (成功的). Shy people may feel that they have a disadvantage But shyness can be an advantage. ____40____ They are good friends because they listen more than they talk. This can also make them successful.
A. This kind of baby liked to make noise.
B. Shy people are often very good at listening.
C. But when they are in a new environment, they become afraid.
D. This job is usually for a person who likes to talk in front of people.
E. For example, children who are always criticized (批评) by their family can become shy.
D 37. C 38. A 39. E 40. B
D项“This job is usually for a person who likes to talk in front of people.”
C项“But when they are in a new environment, they become afraid.”
A项“This kind of baby liked to make noise.”
E项“For example, children who are always criticized by their family can become shy.”
B项“Shy people are often very good at listening.”

根据前文“I made small houses for ants with wood and leaves”可知,前后句结构一致,均为“制作某物”,应选用“made”,与前句动词呼应,构成“made...from stones”(用石头制作……),符合“制作物品”的语境。
根据后文“the more famous I’d be”可知,“the+比较级...the+比较级”结构表示“越……
根据“sometimes 16 hours a...”
根据“I have to be very careful”及雕刻场景,需“屏住呼吸”避免损坏作品,对应固定搭配“hold one’s breath”,应选用“holding”,与“even”强调程度,符合“极度小心”的语境。
根据“it isn’t really enjoyable work. I cannot only enjoy it...I finish it”可知,前后为“直到……
下文列举“met the queen”、“got first Guinness World Record”等具体事件,均属“经历”,应选用“experiences”,表示“雕塑带来的奇妙经历”,与下文举例匹配。
根据“In 2013, I got my first Guinness World Record for the smallest hand-made sculpture, a very small bike. In 2017...”
根据转折词“However”及下文“lost it”“breathed in a tiny sculpture”可知,此处描述“悲伤时刻”,应选用“sad”,与上文“amazing experiences”形成对比,符合“有喜有悲”的逻辑。
由“there came a sudden wind”可知,风会“吹走”小雕塑,符合自然逻辑,应选用“blew away”,表示“风把小车吹走了”,与“lost it”呼应。“passed away”(去世)、“got over”(克服)和“gave up”(放弃)均与“风”和“丢失”无关。
根据“gave me the chance to make even better ones the second time”可知,损坏作品反而带来改进机会,表“实际上”的转折,应选用“actually”,符合“坏事变好事”的语境。
根据“hold workshops...helping them”可知“我”在学校举办工作坊是为了特殊儿童,即表示“与孩子们分享生活”,构成“share life with sb.” “managing”(管理)、“explaining”(解释)和“exploring”(探索)均不与“life with them”搭配。

30. What’s the structure (结构) of the passage? (P1 = Paragraph 1, P2 = Paragraph 2…)
A. B. C. D.

A. Eating most of our food earlier can help lower our fat.
B. All of us can try intermittent fasting if we want.
C. All the experts think having one meal a day is the best way to eat.
D. Intermittent fasting means we should stop eating fruit for many hours.
35. In which unit of the textbook can you read the passage?
