①What do you want to be when you grow up? A study shows that more than 80% of children choose jobs they often see around them, like doctors and teachers, with teachers topping the list of kids’ dream jobs. But jobs such as cartoonists appear in less than 7% of their answers. We often overlook jobs hidden outside our daily lives.
②Choosing a career is crucial (至关重要的) because it will be a big part of your life. If you don’t enjoy your job, your life won’t be as happy as you wish it to be. Try looking into different possibilities! Your dream job might be something you’ve never heard of before.
③How can you start? First, think about your interests and strengths. This will help shape your future job. If numbers excite you, maybe you can be a scientist. If storytelling comes naturally, then writing or filmmaking could be your choice. And remember to talk to your parents, teachers and friends. They can share ideas about different jobs.
④Also, think about future trends (趋势). Many jobs today, like web developers, weren’t around 50 years ago. New jobs like AI ethics advisors might appear when you grow up. As a result, besides learning subjects, you should also try to improve your creativity and critical thinking (批判思维).
⑤ In all, it’s no use just planning without acting. Just join clubs, read books or watch videos about different jobs. Remember: big dreams start with small actions. Whether you want to change the world or find happiness, today’s effort will help you achieve your dreams tomorrow!

Stress has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. When I was a young girl, I stressed over news reports. Why were there so many bad things happening in the world? Why couldn’t people live happily forever? And every age and stage came with new stress causes: body image, exams, friends, love, loss, job interviews, etc.
But recently, while I was on a deadline (截止日期)—a common thing, as a writer—I could feel the panic setting in. Nothing unusual. Except that when I took a deep breath, moved away from my laptop for a moment and really thought about how I was feeling, I realized that the rush of stress through my body wasn’t actually making me feel bad.
Was it possible that stress was making me feel good?
As Catherine Jackson, a clinical psychologist says, “In fact, stress is essential to survival (生存).” Healthy stress, or positive stress comes with various benefits. “One benefit is improved performance, especially for athletes, in which stress serves as a challenge rather than as anxiety (焦虑),” she adds. Low levels of stress can also improve brain power, helping memory and learning.
At my desk, I still remember that late Monday night when I turned in my article only minutes before the deadline. Despite (尽管) that anxiety, I had my lightbulb moment. For the first time in my life, I was actually considering stress differently. Figuring out (弄明白) that my habitual deadline stress was positive stress—or perhaps not even stress at all—hasn’t necessarily changed the way I work. Being up against the clock seems to get my creative juices flowing. But it has changed how I think about stress in general—and not just work-related stress.
I might never be able to remove negative (消极的) stress entirely, but I can change how I think about it and that’s a step in the right direction.
1.What can we learn about the writer from paragraph 1?
A.She stressed over her exams all the time.

A.She dropped the laptop and gave up.
B.She thought differently about the stress.
C.She allowed the panic to affect her mood (情绪).
3.What does the underlined word “essential” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Important. B.Harmful. C.Fortunate.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Negative Stress Has a Lot of Benefits
B.How Can We remove Stress Completely
C.Stress Can Actually Be Good Sometimes
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.C
【导语】本文主要介绍了作者对“压力”这一概念的重新认识和态度转变。
1.第一段提到“every age and stage came with new stress causes: body image, exams, friends, love, loss, job interviews, etc.”,说明作者在成长过程中对不同的东西感到压力。
2.第三段作者问自己“Was it possible that stress was making me feel good?”,以及第五段提到“For the first time in my life, I was actually considering stress differently.”,说明作者从最近这次经历中对压力有了不同的看法。
3.第四段中Jackson说“In fact, stress is essential to survival (生存).”,下文继续说明健康压力带来的好处(提升表现、增强脑力等),因此“essential”应理解为“重要的、必要的”。与选项A的“Important”同义。
4.全文主要讲述作者重新认识压力,发现压力有时也能带来积极影响(提升表现、激发创造力等),并引用心理学家观点说明健康压力的好处。C项“Stress Can Actually Be Good Sometimes.”最能概括全文主旨。
① When it comes to teenage mental health, researchers have found that stress is no longer only a problem for adults (成年人). More middle school students are experiencing high levels of pressure in their daily lives, and this situation has drawn wide attention from parents, schools and society.
② One major cause is academic pressure. With more subjects and higher standards in Grade Eight, students often have difficulty balancing homework, revision and after-school classes. Many of them keep studying until late at night, hoping to get ideal grades in exams. However, this not only leads to poor sleep quality but also makes them easily worried and tired during the day.
③ Another important reason is the lack of proper communication. Many teenagers are unwilling to share their feelings with parents or teachers. They believe that adults cannot understand their troubles, so they keep their worries to themselves. Over time, these negative feelings will influence their mood, study and even physical health. Some students become less confident, while others may feel lonely and helpless.
④ To solve this problem, experts suggest several practical ways. Firstly, students should learn to arrange time wisely and improve learning efficiency (效率) instead of studying for long hours without breaks. Secondly, it’s necessary to express feelings properly. Talking to trusted people can help reduce stress greatly. Thirdly, taking up hobbies and doing outdoor activities can help relax the mind and body.
⑤ Schools and parents also play important roles. Schools should organize more activities to reduce pressure, while parents should care more about their children’s mental health rather than only paying attention to grades.
⑥ In fact, stress is normal in life. The key is to face it positively and use the right ways to deal with it. Only in this way can teenagers keep healthy both in body and mind.
根据短文内容,选择最佳答案。

【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了青少年面临的压力问题,分析了压力产生的原因,并给出了应对压力的方法。
1.第三段“Many teenagers are unwilling to share their feelings with parents or teachers. They believe that adults cannot understand their troubles, so they keep their worries to themselves.”说明青少年不愿与成年人交流是因为他们认为成年人无法理解自己的烦恼。
2.结合划线词下文“improve learning efficiency (效率) instead of studying for long hours without breaks”,“提高学习效率而不是长时间不间断地学习”说明,划线处应该指合理“安排”时间,因此“arrange”的意思为“安排,计划”,与“Plan”意思相近。
3.结合第四段“Firstly, students should learn to arrange time wisely and improve learning efficiency (效率) instead of studying for long hours without breaks.”
5.通读全文可知,第一段“When it comes to teenage mental health, researchers have found that stress is no longer only a problem for adults (成年人).”先指出青少年面临压力的问题;然后第二段“One major cause is academic pressure.”和第三段“Another important reason is the lack of proper communication.”分析原因;接着第四段“To solve this problem, experts suggest several practical ways.”和第五段“Schools and parents also play important roles.”提出应对方法;第六段“In fact, stress is normal in life. The key is to face it positively and use right ways to deal with it.”最后总结应积极面对压力。对应选项D的结构。

He decided to take his group to play games together, and he prepared 3 rounds of games carefully. During the first round, the manager told everyone to blow a balloon and write their names without breaking it. And soon the team members did it successfully. After that, the manager told them to wait outside for the next round. When they went into the room again, they saw many more balloons without names around the room. In a recent discovery, archaeologists (考古学家) found the ruins (废墟) of an important ancient city! These ruins, found in Baliqiao, Henan, are about 3,700 years old. They are from the Xia Dynasty, which is the earliest known dynasty in China. This discovery helps fill in some pieces of history and helps us see the bigger picture of the Xia Dynasty.
The Baliqiao ruins are large, covering about 1.35 million square metres. So far, archaeologists have dug up around 1,800 square metres since they started their work in 2022. They found many interesting things, like walls, roads, and even pottery (陶器), which show that people there were skilled and had a rich culture.
What makes the Baliqiao ruins even more exciting is its connection to another place called the Erlitou ruins, which people discovered in 1959 and are known for helping us understand the early days of China. Researchers believe that the culture of the Xia Dynasty spread far and wide, including Baliqiao. Liang Fawei, an archaeologist, explained that the objects found at both places are very alike, showing the influence (影响) of the Xia Dynasty on the Baliqiao area.
Nowadays, as researchers continue to dig at the Baliqiao ruins, we can look forward to more treasures from the past. They may help us understand how ancient people lived, what they believed in, and how the Xia Dynasty shaped early China. With each new find, they’re piecing together the story of ancient China.

1.第一段“These ruins, found in Baliqiao, Henan, are about 3,700 years old...This discovery helps fill in some pieces of history and helps us see the bigger picture of the Xia Dynasty.”,遗址符合“Old”和“Important”的描述,因此①④正确。
2.第二段“The Baliqiao ruins are large, covering about 1.35 million square metres. So far, archaeologists have dug up around 1,800 square metres since they started their work in 2022.”,作者通过列举具体数字说明遗址规模大。
3.第三段“What makes the Baliqiao ruins even more exciting is its connection to another place called the Erlitou ruins, which people discovered in 1959 and are known for helping us understand the early days of China.”,本句中非限制性定语从句就近修饰前文核心名词the Erlitou ruins,即二里头遗址,因此which指代二里头遗址。

The Dead Sea is located in the Jordan Rift Valley in Asia. It sits at about 430 metres below sea level, making it the lowest point on earth’s land.
What’s interesting is that the Dead Sea isn’t actually a sea. It’s a lake with a salt concentration (含盐度) of more than 30 per cent, which is about ten times saltier than typical seawater. This makes it one of the saltiest bodies of water on earth.
The Dead Sea stays so salty due to its special natural conditions. Each year, it receives very little rainfall, and only a small amount of fresh water flows into it. And the hot weather around the Dead Sea causes the fresh water to evaporate (蒸发) quickly, which makes the salt concentration even higher. So it is also known as the Salt Sea.
If you were to swim in the Dead Sea, you wouldn’t see any sea life—no plants or animals. The high salt concentration makes it impossible for them to survive there. That’s actually why it’s called the Dead Sea.
However, don’t let the name or not having any sea life scare you. Even if you fall into the Dead Sea and can’t swim, you won’t die. The high concentration of salt in the Dead Sea allows anyone to float well, without the need for life buoys (救生圈). In fact, many people visit the Dead Sea every year on vacation. If you walk along the shore (海岸), you’ll likely see many people floating in the water, reading books or newspapers.
1.Where is the Dead Sea?
A.In the middle of a desert. B.On top of a high mountain.
C.In a rift valley in Asia. D.In a deep valley in America.
2.Why did the Dead Sea get its name “Dead Sea”?
A.It has no living things. B.No water runs into it.
C.It has very little rainfall. D.No people live around it.
3.What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A.Swimming in the Dead Sea is tiring.
B.The Dead Sea is a popular place for tourists.
C.The salt in the Dead Sea is bad for people’s skin.
D.The Dead Sea is dangerous for people who can’t swim.
4.What’s the purpose of this passage?
A.To show how the Dead Sea formed.
B.To explain how the Dead Sea got its name.
C.To let people know more about the Dead Sea.
D.To teach people how to float in the Dead Sea.
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.B 4.C

Plants are not just beautiful decorations in our world, they are the foundation of life on Earth. Without plants, life as we know it would not exist. They are incredibly important for our survival and the health of our planet.
First of all, plants are our primary source of food. All the food we eat, whether it's fruits, vegetables, grains, or even the meat from animals, can be traced back to plants. Animals eat plants to grow, and then we eat the animals. So, plants are the base of the food chain. Secondly, plants produce the oxygen we breathe. Through the process of photosynthesis, they take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen into the air, which is essential for all living things to survive.
There are millions of different kinds of plants in the world, each with its own unique characteristics. Some plants are very small and simple, like moss and grass that grow close to the ground. Others are incredibly large and ancient, like the redwood trees in California. Redwood trees are the tallest trees on Earth, capable of growing up to 115 meters tall, which is like a 35-story building! They can also live for more than 2,000 years.
Plants are also crucial for the environment. Their roots help to hold the soil in place, preventing erosion. They absorb rainwater, which helps to reduce flooding. They provide shelter and food for countless species of animals, birds, and insects, creating complex ecosystems. Many animals, like pandas, depend entirely on specific plants (like bamboo) for their survival.
Unfortunately, many plant species are now endangered due to human activities like deforestation, pollution, and climate change. We must take action to protect plants and their habitats. We should not cut down too many trees, and we should plant more trees to replace the ones we have lost. By protecting plants, we are protecting the future of our planet and all the life that depends on it.
1.What do plants give us?
A.Food. B.Oxygen. C.Many other things. D.All of the above.
2.What are the tallest trees in the world?

3.How tall can redwood trees grow?
A.Up to 100 meters.B.Up to 115 meters.C.Up to 120 meters. D.Up to 125 meters.
4.Why are plants important for the environment?
A.They help to keep the air clean. B.They provide homes for many animals.
C.Both A and B. D.Neither A nor B.
5.What should we do to protect plants?
A.We should cut down more trees.
B.We should not protect plants.
C.We should protect plants and not cut down too many trees.
D.We should not plant more trees.
【答案】1.D 2.A 3.B 4.C 5.C

B.She couldn’t live happily with her family.
C.She stressed over different items while growing up.
2.What can we infer from the writer’s latest experience?
A.She dropped the laptop and gave up.
B.She thought differently about the stress.
C.She allowed the panic to affect her mood (情绪).
3.What does the underlined word “essential” in paragraph 4 refer to?
A.Important. B.Harmful. C.Fortunate.
4.Which of the following can be the best title for the text?
A.Negative Stress Has a Lot of Benefits
B.How Can We remove Stress Completely
C.Stress Can Actually Be Good Sometimes

After that, the manager told them to wait outside for the next round. When they went into the room again, they saw many more balloons without names around the room. The manager told them to look for the balloon with his or her name on it. The first to bring him the balloon would win, while those who broke the balloon would be out of the game. 15 minutes passed and no one was able to find his balloon, and then the manager decided to go on to the third round. For the third round, the manager told his group to pick any balloon from the room and give it to the person whose name was on it. Within just a few minutes, everyone had his balloon with his own name. The manager was very happy and discussed with his group about the reason why they didn’t find their balloons in the second round. That was because everyone paid too much attention to his own target.
