Recently, Xie Zhaoyutong, a middle school student, has gained lots of attention online. The boy turned his bedroom into a “private museum”. People praise him for his knowledge of history and smart way of speaking, saying he is like a professor.
Named the “Yu Tang Museum”, his bedroom, just over ten square metres, is filled with old books, copper coins, and porcelain (瓷器). He spent almost all of his lucky money and pocket money buying these items.
He said that at first, he loved the items for their appearances, but as he learned more about history, he realized that each item carries a special culture.
The only free space in the room is his bed. “This bed is for my body, while everything else is for my spirit,” he said. For him, arranging (布置) his room this way has another advantage: it reminds him to use his phone less.
Xie Zhaoyutong’s interest in reading began around the age of three or four, and a visit to a museum with his mother at six made him fall in love with cultural relics (文物) and history.
The boy believes learning history well helps with school subjects like Chinese and makes his life more interesting. He doesn’t care about material comforts—he even wears old socks with holes! But he loves filling his mind with knowledge. “Having fewer things means more space for thinking,” he says. “Life without learning is boring.”
To Xie, reading an ancient book lets him understand what people thought thousands of years ago; touching a Han Dynasty brick allows him to imagine the lives of people who lived then. This kind of joy, he believes, is much better than fleeting online fun.
1.What do we know about Xie Zhaoyutong from Paragraph 1?
A.He is a college student. B.He works as a professor.
C.He built a public museum. D.He has become popular online.
2.Xie Zhaoyutong spent most of his lucky money and pocket money on ________
A.old objects B.a bigger bedroom C.school subjects D.new clothes and shoes
3.The underlined word “advantage” in Paragraph 4 probably means ________.
A.change B.benefit C.problem D.challenge
4.Which of the following is TRUE about Xie Zhaoyutong’s lifestyle?
① He never uses his phone in his free time.
② He prefers to fill his mind with knowledge.
③ He spends most of his time on online games.
④ He doesn’t care a lot about expensive clothes.
A.①② B.③④ C.①③ D.②④
5.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.A Teenager’s Love for History B.How to Collect Cultural Relics
C.A Private Museum in a Bedroom D.The Importance of Learning History
【答案】1.D 2.A 3.B 4.D 5.C
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,主要讲述了初中生谢昭雨橦将卧室改造成“雨堂博物馆”,收藏旧书、铜币、瓷器等老物件,展现他对历史文化的热爱与独特的精神追求。
1.第一段“Recently, Xie Zhaoyutong, a middle school student, has gained lots of attention online. The boy turned his bedroom into a 'private museum'. People praise him for his knowledge of history and smart way of speaking, saying he is like a professor.”可知,谢昭雨橦是一名初中生,并非大学生,也不是真正的教授,他打造的是私人博物馆而非公共博物馆,只有“在网上走红”符合原文表述。
2.根据第二段“Named the ‘Yu Tang Museum’, his bedroom, just over ten square metres, is filled with old books, copper coins, and porcelain. He spent almost all of his lucky money and pocket money buying these items.”可知,“these items”指代前文提到的旧书、铜币、瓷器等老物件,因此他的压岁钱和零花钱大多花在了老物件上。
3.第四段:“For him, arranging his room this way has another advantage: it reminds him to use his phone less.”,后文“it reminds him to use his phone less”是布置房间带来的好处,因此“advantage”在此处意为“好处”,与选项“benefit”同义。
4.①原文第四段“it reminds him to use his phone less”,仅说明“少用手机”,并非“从不使用”,表述错误;②原文第六段“But he loves filling his mind with knowledge.”,表述与原文一致,正确;③原文第七段“This kind of joy, he believes, is much better than fleeting online fun.”,说明他并不沉迷网络娱乐,表述错误;④原文第六段“He doesn’t care about material comforts—he even wears old socks with holes!”,说明他不追求物质享受,不在乎昂贵衣物,表述正确。
What do young people like to do in their free time? If you think they are all playing video games or watching short videos on their phones, you might be wrong. In 2026, many young people are turning to something quite different — “grandma hobbies. “
“Grandma hobbies” is a fun name for traditional activities like needlepoint (刺绣) and gardening. These are things that people’s grandmothers used to enjoy. But now, Gen Z (people born after 1997) are falling in love with them.
Emma MacTaggart, 26, from the US, is a good example. She used to work long hours in banking. After work, she would just look through her phone for hours — a habit called “getting lost in her phone.” To change this, she and her roommates decided to try needlepoint. Soon, they became “fully engrossed.” Emma said it was so relaxing that they spent almost all their free time making needlepoint works instead of looking at a screen.
These old hobbies help young people reduce stress and feel relaxed. When they finish a gift or a dish, they feel proud and successful. Social media helps them become more popular. Young people share their works online and make friends. Some even turn their hobbies into businesses. Take Anna Weare as an example, a 31-year-old blacksmith (铁匠 ) — people now wait a year for her handmade products.
So next time you see a young person blacksmithing, don’t be surprised. It’s the newest cool thing to do!
1.What are “grandma hobbies” according to the passage?
A.Modern mobile phone apps. B.Old-fashioned video games.

A.To make more money. B.To change her lifestyle.
C.To pass the time with friends. D.To get help from others.

A.crazy B.bored C.tired D.angry
4.What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A.“Grandma hobbies” help young people relax and find pleasure.

【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.A
【导语】本文主要介绍了年轻人中流行的“奶奶爱好”——刺绣、园艺等传统活动。

Fire is very dangerous. It can burn down houses and hurt people. So it’s important for us to know how to keep safe when there is a fire.

We all know that getting the flu is not fun. There are headaches, coughs, fevers, and other terrible feelings. To help us get better, we take some medicine and get much rest. We also drink lots of water and eat healthy food.
However, some people don’t want to get sick at all. So, they get a flu shot before the flu season starts. The flu shot is, in fact, a vaccine (疫苗), not usual cold medicine. It will protect them from the flu.
The vaccine introduces some of the flu into the body. But don’t worry. The flu is dead and won’t make you sick. It will teach your body to know it and fight it off in the future. Vaccines not only protect you but also protect others. That’s because they help stop illnesses from spreading (扩散) from person to person. When fewer people have the illnesses, the chances of getting them go down. Sometimes, the illnesses completely go away.
Though vaccines are quite safe, some adults are afraid of them. They worry the vaccines will cause serious side effects (副作用). Vaccines might cause side effects, but they are usually not as terrible as people imagine. For most people, vaccines are safe and make them better.

People usually feel excited when they go on vacation. But most people feel blue when coming home after travelling. And this feeling is called post-vacation blues. If you feel blue after travelling, here are some ways to help you get out of this bad feeling.
Give yourself a week to relax first. You don’t need to think what to do next and just be relaxed. You can show your pet some love if you have one, watch your favourite TV shows or listen to relaxing music.
After a week, do something useful and keep yourself busy. For example, when I came back from Europe, I felt blue because I didn’t have a job and was living with my parents. So I decided to find a job and make myself busy. If you don’t need a job, just try something like painting your room or tidying your house. You can also do exercise, learn to cook, visit your friends and just do anything you want!
It’s also a good idea to make a photo book and plan your next trip. Your photos taken on vacation help you remember the good times you had. And you can plan to take another trip. Just like Elbert Hubbard said, “No man needs a vacation so much as the man who has just had one.”
Next time when you feel blue, remember to try these ways. You’ll find going back to the real life is not so terrible as you think.
1.Which of the following is NOT suggested for post-vacation blues?
A.Buying a new pet. B.Painting your room.
C.Planning your next trip. D.Watching your favourite TV shows.
2.Why does the writer mention Elbert Hubbard’s saying?
A.To encourage people to take a long vacation
B.To prove that the writer is full of rich knowledge
C.To show that each person needs to have a nice vacation.
D.To explain why planning the next trip cheers people up.
3.Which is the right structure of the passage?

One night, my older brother Tommy and I started fighting in the kitchen. He said I was weak (虚弱的) and silly. I felt really hurt, so I ran to my room and shut the door. I sat on my bed and cried.
About 20 minutes later, I heard Mom walking outside. She knocked on my door and asked in a low voice, “Kevin, do you want to talk with me?” I didn’t answer. I was too sad to speak. She tried again. Still, I said nothing.
Then I saw a piece of paper slip under my door. It said, “If you don’t want to talk, we can write notes to each other.” I read it but still didn’t want to reply. I just sat in the dark, feeling sad.
Half an hour later, I finally picked up a pen. I wrote down everything that was in my heart. My note said, “No one in this family loves me. I am not the youngest or the oldest, and I am not the smartest. Tommy thinks I am too weak, and Dad wishes he had another Kevin who is better at basketball. You’re never around to even notice me.” I pushed the note out under the door.
Soon, Mom wrote back: “Kevin, I do love you, and everyone in this family loves you.”
I was still crying softly. A few minutes later, I wrote another note: “Thanks!” She asked, “For what?” I replied, “For loving me.”
From that night on, our family tried harder to care about each other. Whenever someone is unhappy, we smile and say, “Write it on a note.”

Lake Huron, Lake Ontario, Lake Michigan, Lake Erie, and Lake Superior, known as the Great Lakes, make up the largest fresh surface water system in the world.
The Great Lakes cover about 245,660 km². So how much fresh water is that? A lot! Scientists think the Great Lakes hold about 22 percent of the world's fresh surface water supply (供应) and about 95 percent of the United States’ supply.
Although the Great Lakes are made up of five different lakes, together they become one big body of fresh water. Water flows (流) from Lake Superior to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. It then flows south to Lake Erie before following the Niagara River over Niagara Falls and into Lake Ontario. At last, the St. Lawrence River takes Lake Ontario’s water to the Atlantic Ocean.
Besides the five Great Lakes themselves, many rivers and thousands of smaller lakes—called “inland (内陆的) lakes”—are part of the system. The Great Lakes are so big that they are more like inland seas than typical lakes. People can even surf (冲浪) on parts of the Great Lakes if the weather conditions are right!
When children see one of the Great Lakes for the first time, they might think it's the ocean in the wrong way because of its large size. There are many ways to have fun in, on and around the Great Lakes. Besides swimming, boating and fishing, there are many fun places to visit.
1.How does the writer show that there’s much fresh water in the Great Lake in Paragraph 2?
A.By telling stories. B.By showing numbers.

A.Where the Great Lakes are. B.Why the Great Lakes are famous
C.How big the Great Lakes are D.How water of the Great Lakes flows into the ocean.
3.Why are the Great Lakes like inland seas?
A.Because they’re very large. B.Because people can surf there.
C.Because they’re close to the ocean. D.Because they have good weather conditions.
4.What will the writer probably talk about in the following paragraph?
A.Stories about the Great Lakes. B.Animals around the Great Lakes.
C.The importance of the Great Lakes. D.Fun places around the Great Lakes .
5.What is the theme of this passage?

【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述了作者乔治在中学时经历的一次强烈地震,包括地震发生时的场景、地震后的状况以及作者从这次经历中获得的感悟。
1.第一段提到:“When I was listening to the teacher carefully, suddenly I felt the ground shaking and everything started moving.” 这表明当地面开始震动时,乔治正在教室里认真听老师讲课。
2.第四段提到:“Many buildings collapsed and lots of people lost their homes and family.” 结合前文描述地震造成很多破坏,以及后文很多人失去家园和家人,可推测出“collapsed”意思是“倒塌”,与“Fell down”意思相符。
3.第二段提到:“When the shaking stopped, the teacher quickly took us out of the classroom to the playground.” 结合前文第一段“When I was listening to the teacher carefully, suddenly I felt the ground shaking and everything started moving. Everyone in the classroom was shouting and crying.”以及第三段“My house suffered some damage (损坏).”可知,先是乔治认真听老师讲课,然后同学们开始喊叫哭泣,接着老师带学生去操场,最后乔治看到房子受损。所以顺序是③②④①。
4.第一段提到:“I was scared and even thought of the end of the world.” 说明乔治一开始很害怕;第三段提到:“But I felt happy that we were all safe.” 说明看到大家都安全后他很高兴;第四段提到:“I was sad to hear that.” 说明听到很多人失去家园和家人他很伤心;最后一段提到:“I know how important it is to be prepared for natural disasters and I feel more hopeful about safety now.” 说明他现在对安全更有希望了。所以乔治的感情变化是scared→happy→sad→hopeful。
5.最后一段提到:“Looking back on this experience, I know how important it is to be prepared for natural disasters.” 这表明乔治从这次事件中学到了为自然灾害做好准备的重要性。
One Saturday Maria and I had a 30-mile bike ride. At 10:30 a.m., when we stopped for a rest, a cold wind came. That was when our perfect day began to change.
By noon, we knew a big storm was moving our way. Dark clouds rolled up out of the southwest. There was no way to stay out of the storm. We would have to wait it out, but where?
Then ▲ . The temperature fell suddenly. I looked up and saw the sky had now turned dark green. I looked around and saw no animals.
Then a blue car stopped beside our bikes. The driver shouted, “Get in!” She looked afraid, and so did we. We did as she said. That was when the hail (冰雹) started. Ice, the size of golf balls, hit the windows of the car.
She drove fast to the north. Maria and I looked back at the black sky. Maria cried, “Tornado (龙卷风)!” It was so close. We would never run faster than the tornado! The driver said, “There’s an overpass (桥) ahead. We’ll stay under it for protection.”
When we parked, we jumped out of the car and ran to the wall of the overpass. Before I could count to 20, there came a loud noise. It sounded like a train passing overhead. Then, suddenly, it was over. We had made it!
We were shaken but excited. What a story!

Chopsticks have been used in Asia for over 3,000 years. The earliest chopsticks were discovered in Henan, China about 1200 BCE. Over the next 2,000 years, they spread throughout East and Southeast Asia.
The three most well-known types are Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Chinese chopsticks are longer with wide, rounded points at the end, mostly made of plastic or bamboo. While Japanese chopsticks are shorter and more pointed. Korean ones are flat rather than round and made of metal rather than wood. It’s said that ancient Royalty (皇室) used silver chopsticks to see if their food was poisoned (有毒的). In Southeast Asia, Vietnamese chopsticks are similar to Chinese ones.
Chopsticks are not just eating tools. A proper chopstick grip (握法) can greatly improve dining experience. First, place the top part of two sticks between your thumb and index finger. Hold the upper chopstick gently with your first three fingers while resting the lower one at your ring finger. Meanwhile, put your thumb at the side of your index-finger nail. The upper stick is moved up and down with the movements of the index finger and middle finger. This way, pieces of food can be easily grasped between the tips of the chopsticks.
________ The first rule is to grab and not stab (刺入) food with the tip of your chopsticks. Second, don’t set chopsticks vertically (垂直的) into the rice in your bowl. In some cultures, such positioning of chopsticks is considered as a symbol associated with death. Third, watch where you point your chopsticks. It’s rude to point them directly at others.
Following the guidelines above, you not only show respect for the cultural traditions about chopsticks, but also enrich your overall dining experience.

Dear Li Hua,
How’s everything going? I’m now studying in Canada and I’m having a great time here. I’ve experienced many interesting cultural differences. One thing is about table manners. Here, people usually use knives and forks to eat. When we have dinner together, we don’t start eating until everyone is served. Also, we say “bless you” when someone sneezes. It’s a polite way here. Another thing is about festivals. Last week, I celebrated Thanksgiving with my host family. We had a big dinner and gave thanks for what we have. It was really warm and meaningful. I’ve also tried to communicate with local people. At first, I was afraid of making mistakes, but they were very patient and friendly. Now, I feel much more confident. I’m looking forward to sharing more with you when I come back.
Yours,

The key is to learn how to control it.” The owl gave Lila a small stone and told her to keep it. When she felt angry, she could hold it and take three deep breaths.

Every boy wants to find treasure. And Tom was no different. One summer day Tom told Huck about his idea.
“Where can we look for treasure?” asked Huck.
“It’s hidden on islands, under dead trees, but mostly under the floors in haunted (闹鬼的) houses.”
So, one Saturday afternoon Tom and his friend went to look for treasure at the haunted house on Cardiff Hill. It was a quiet and lonely place, which made the boys feel very frightened. They entered quietly, and explored downstairs. There were cobwebs everywhere and everything was old and broken. Then they threw their tools in a corner and walked upstairs, but there was nothing there. They were just about to go downstairs and start digging when Tom stopped.
“What is it?” whispered Huck, going white with fright.
“Keep quiet! There’s someone downstairs.”
The boys lay down, looking through the holes in the wooden floor. There were two men downstairs. One was an old Spaniard in a wide sombrero hat and the other was dirty and unpleasant-looking.
Tom and Huck shook with fear when they heard the Spaniard speak because they found it was Indian Joe. He said, “It’s time for us to move, partner. What will we do with the $650 from the robbery (抢劫)?”
“Let’s keep $30 each and leave the bag here.”

“They must have hidden their money here.”
“What will we do with this, Joe? Will we bury (埋) it again?”

Volunteering is becoming more and more popular among middle school students these days. It is not only a way to help people in need, but also a good chance for teenagers to improve themselves and enrich their life experiences. As an eighth-grade student, I have taken part in many volunteer activities in my spare time.
Last Saturday, I joined a volunteer group to help clean up the city park. When we arrived in the morning, we found some rubbish everywhere. There were plastic bags, empty bottles and waste paper on the grass and along the roads. We divided ourselves into small groups. Some picked up the rubbish with tools, some swept the paths, and others reminded visitors to protect the environment. At first, some visitors looked at us in surprise, but soon many of them began to follow our example and stopped throwing rubbish casually.
After three hours’ hard work, the whole park became clean and tidy. The fresh air and green trees made people feel comfortable. Although we felt a little tired, we were full of joy and pride. We knew our small effort could make our city more beautiful.
Besides cleaning parks, I also go to the old people’s home once a month. I chat with the lonely old people, help them wash clothes and tell them interesting stories. Most of the old people there live alone and they really need care and company. Every time we leave, they always thank us with warm smiles.
Volunteering teaches me a lot. It makes me learn to care about others instead of only thinking of myself. It also improves my communication skills and makes me more outgoing. I believe volunteering is a meaningful thing. I will keep on doing volunteer work and call on more classmates to join us to pass on warmth and kindness to our society.

A.crazy B.bored C.tired D.angry
4.What does the writer mainly want to tell us?
A.“Grandma hobbies” help young people relax and find pleasure.
B.All young people turn their hobbies into successful businesses.
C.Needlepoint is the most popular free-time activity for Gen Z.
D.Young people take up “grandma hobbies” only to make friends.
Fire is very dangerous. It can burn down houses and hurt people. So it’s important for us to know how to keep safe when there is a fire.
First, when a fire happens, we should keep calm. Don’t be afraid or run around nervously. Call 119 for help right away and tell the firefighters where the fire is clearly.
Second, we should try to get out of the building quickly. If there is smoke, we should cover our mouth and nose with a wet towel and crawl (匍匐前进) on the floor. Because smoke is hot and it goes up into the air, the air near the floor is clean.
Third, don’t take the elevator (电梯) during a fire. The elevator may stop working because of the fire. We should use the stairs to get out.
Fourth, if we can’t get out of the room, we should close the door and put wet clothes or towels under the door to avoid the smoke from coming in. Then we can stand by the window and shout for help.
Finally, after getting out of the building, we should never go back into the building to get our things. Our life is the most important.
Everyone should learn these fire safety rules. They can help us keep safe when there is a fire.
1.What is the first thing we should do when a fire happens?
A.Run out quickly. B.Keep calm. C.Take things.
2.What should we use to cover our mouth and nose when there is smoke?

C.Because we can find things easily.
4.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.How to start a fire. B.How to keep safe during a fire. C.The danger of fire.
1.According to the passage, we should ________ if we get the flu.
① take some medicine ② do more exercise
③ eat healthy food ④ drink lots of water

Yours,
Wang Ming

Every boy wants to find treasure. And Tom was no different. One summer day Tom told Huck about his idea.

So, one Saturday afternoon Tom and his friend went to look for treasure at the haunted house on Cardiff Hill. It was a quiet and lonely place, which made the boys feel very frightened.
