I can never talk without stuttering (口吃). Today I was taking over my friend Rat’s paper job dropping papers at neighbours’ front doors and collecting payments for the next week’s service, as he was on vacation with his parents.
The first five houses on my list were easy. The envelopes (信封) were right there—in the screen door or on the mailbox, so I didn’t have to say a word to anyone. But the sixth house at 1219 Vinton was my first doorbell. I had never before in my life walked up to the front door to call a stranger.
I heard the bell through the screen door, and the sound made my insides jump. Soon a man in a white shirt started toward the door and then stopped when he saw me.
“I think it’s the paperboy, honey. Where’s the envelope?”
A woman’s voice from the kitchen said she’d forgotten how much it was.
The man walked to the screen door, “How much, son?”
I knew exactly how much. Ninety-five cents. But the word “ninety” was as difficult for me to say as any word starting with P. I was thinking about saying Sixty cents because of the easy S sound on both words, but I would be losing money if I did that. I also thought about rounding it off by saying one dollar, but people might think I was dishonest.
Then I tried a trick that sometimes worked at school. I threw my pencil in the air with my right hand. The moment it spun, the words left my mouth, “s-s-s-s-Ninety-five cents.” But as usual, I got nervous and it dropped onto the ground.
The man opened the screen door and handed me a dollar bill. I took out a coin from my pocket and offered it to him.
“Keep it, son,” he said, then turned away.
My first doorbell had gone better than expected. I’d even gotten my first tip. And now I had four more houses to go and I felt a little more confident. Maybe this collecting job would be a bit easier later.

When 12-year-old Mia visited the beach with her family, she never expected to find a message in a bottle. The bottle was dirty and covered with shells. Inside was a piece of paper with handwriting that was hard to read.
“Dear Finder,” the letter began. “My name is Carlos. I am 9 years old and I live in Portugal. I am sending this bottle into the sea because I want to know if someone far away will read my words. My favorite thing is drawing ships. Do you like the ocean too? Please write back if you find this.”
Mia was excited. She asked her mother for help and sent an email to the address Carlos had left. To her surprise, she received a reply two weeks later.
It turned out that Carlos had thrown the bottle five years ago. Now he was 14 and had almost forgotten about it. The two started writing emails regularly. They shared pictures of their drawings — Mia drew sea animals, and Carlos drew ships. They learned about each other’s cultures and promised to meet one day.

Miss Martha owned a small bakery (面包店). She was forty, a kind woman with a big imagination. She often wondered about the customers in her shop.
One customer made her very curious. He was a middle-aged man with glasses, who always wore old clothes, but clean. He came twice a week, and each time, he only bought two loaves (条) of hard bread. He never looked at her delicious pies or fresh cakes.
Miss Martha decided he must be a poor, hungry artist. She imagined him living in a very small, cheap room, thinking only about his painting so much that he forgot to eat. The idea touched her kind heart. She began to wish she could help him.
The next time he came to the shop, she acted quickly while his back was turned. She took two hard loaves, made a small hole in each, and put a large piece of fresh butter inside. Then she wrapped them up as usual.
Her heart beat fast as she handed him the bread. She spent the rest of the day dreaming that he would discover her kindness and thank her.
Suddenly, the quiet of the afternoon was broken. The shop door flew open, and the man stormed in. His face was dark with anger. He threw the bread down hard on the table.
“I am an architect (建筑师)!” he shouted. “For the past three months, I have been working on a building plan. I draw in pencil, and I use pieces of hard bread as erasers. It works better than a rubber eraser! But now... look.”

It was a bright, sunny day. Little Albert Einstein could see the children playing outside, but he had to stay inside and felt bored because of illness.
“I have something for you!” his father told him mysteriously.
In his hand was a round, shiny object which looked like a pocket watch, but its face was marked with the letters N, S, E and W, with only one big hand (指针).
“It’s called a compass,” his father continued. “Whichever way you turn it, the hand always points north! Explorers use it to work out where they get lost!”
Albert took the object from his father and watched it closely. “How does it work?” he wondered.
“Ah, it uses something called ‘magnetism’ (磁性)!” said his father, smiling. “The hand is a magnet and so is the planet Earth. That is why the hand always points north—because of the magnetic field around our planet!”
A feeling of curiosity ran through him. It was amazing to think the hand in his compass was controlled by something that was unseen... Could it be that there were other hidden forces at work in space? And what if there were?
Albert soon got better and was allowed to play outside again. But the compass was still on his mind. He did experiments to see how it reacted (反应) to iron objects or other magnets; he couldn’t wait to discover the rules of space.
Albert’s family encouraged his curiosity. His uncle taught him mathematics, which he could use to work out a lot. And a friend of his father even brought Albert a series of books called People’s Books on Natural Science. The boy lost himself in them at once!
Through reading, Albert learned about the discovery of new planets in Earth’s solar system, as well as things like gravity, magnetism...
But what amazed him most was the speed of light.
“Did you know that the speed of light is the same everywhere in space?” he told his sister Maja one day. “Scientists say nothing can go faster. I bet understanding the speed of light is very important if we want to understand space.”
Albert thought much about magnetism, gravity and light. He wondered if there were some keys to understanding how they are connected with each other. The more he read, the better he learnt about how everything worked. That little compass started him on a whole new journey of discovery—and who knew what would be waiting for him along the way!

Lando Norris’ dream of a Formula 1 (一级方程式赛车) drivers’ title has come true. On December 7, 2025, he finally won the first world title of his career. Congratulations!
When the last race of the F1 season ended, Norris screamed on the team radio. He was super excited to become world No. 1! Then we heard him say: “I love you guys (his team members). I love you, Mum. I love you, Dad. Thanks for everything. I’m not crying!” Well, while he was saying this, tears were actually rolling down his face inside his helmet. He had every right to be in tears because his path to victory had been so hard.

Winter solstice (冬至) is Izzie’s favorite day of the year. Guests at her house enjoy songs and stories well into the night.
But Izzie’s favorite part has always been making snow angels with Grandpa at noon. When they were standing over the angels, their shadows would look like two skinny huge men with wings.
But this year is different. One shadow is missing. Izzie feels very sad.
Uncle Bert has arrived. He greets Izzie with a hug. “Amaze us with your violin tonight, Izzie?”
Izzie holds her breath. Her violin reminds her of Grandpa. She hasn’t picked it up for weeks.
“You know Izzie doesn’t like a listener, Bert,” says Izzie’s mom.
“Kids change,” Uncle Bert smiles. “I have a gift for you, Izzie.” He hands Izzie a case.
“It’s Grandpa’s violin.” Izzie opens the case. She touches the familiar image of a sun carved into the violin’s neck, fingering the song Grandpa taught her. Grandpa said ancient people thought the earth was flat and the sun stood still on winter solstice.
Izzie feels her heart stands still. How can we have solstice without Grandpa’s song?
The sun starts setting. All guests have arrived, talking and laughing. For a moment, Izzie thinks she hears Grandpa’s voice. But it’s only Uncle Bert sounding like him.
Soon, it turns dark. Dad starts the bonfire. The celebration will begin.
Grandpa was always first. When the bonfire began, he’d step onto the chair and play his favorite song, Sweet Angels Come Nearer. Izzie would get a warm feeling.
Izzie knows the sun will start rising and setting tomorrow, but she feels lost without Grandpa’s song. Someone needs to play it. But who will?
Dad tells a story. Aunt Bea sings. Simon reads a poem.
In a moment of quiet, Izzie’s hand shoots into the air.
“Izzie? You’d like to share, too?” Dad asked.
She steps up onto the chair, hands shaking. She takes a breath and turns her back to the fire, pretending (假装) no one is watching. One shaky note. Another. She imagines Grandpa playing the same violin. Her notes become stronger.
As she plays, a voice rises behind her, singing the words to Grandpa’s song. It’s Uncle Bert. Mom joins in. Then Dad, Simon, Aunt Bea.
Voices enlarge. Grandpa’s violin soars (飞扬).
Izzie feels the love of her family encircle her, warm like sunshine.

When I was in Grade 8, my English teacher asked me to take part in the city’s English speech competition. At first, I was very surprised and refused. I was not a good speaker. I was afraid to stand in front of hundreds of people and speak in English. I even couldn’t speak a complete sentence without shaking in front of the class.
However, my teacher didn’t give up on me. She said, “I know you have the ability. You write excellent compositions, and your pronunciation is very good. You just need to be braver.” Her words touched me, and I decided to have a try.
The next two months were full of hard work. I chose the topic “The Power of Confidence”. I wrote and revised the speech again and again until it was perfect. My teacher helped me correct my pronunciation and intonation. She taught me how to use body language to make my speech more attractive. Every day, I practiced in front of the mirror for at least two hours. Sometimes, I even practiced in the park, in front of the trees and flowers, to get used to speaking in front of others.
The day of the competition finally came. When my name was called, my heart was beating so fast that I thought it would jump out of my chest. I walked up to the stage, looked at the huge crowd, and my mind went blank for a second. Then I saw my English teacher sitting in the front row, smiling at me. I took a deep breath and started my speech.
At first, my voice was shaking, but gradually, I became more and more confident. I forgot about the crowd, forgot about the competition, and just told my story with all my heart. When I finished the last sentence, the whole hall broke into warm applause.
In the end, I won the second prize. That was the first time I had ever won such a big prize. More importantly, I learned that confidence doesn’t come from being perfect. It comes from trying, even when you are afraid. Now, whenever I face difficulties, I always remember that speech. It taught me that as long as I dare to take the first step, I can do anything.

Georgia, who works for a popular fashion store in the UK named Bows Boutique, left her purse at a gas station after her company party in early December. She was heartbroken, but thinking someone must have taken it away, she gave up the idea of going back to look for it and didn’t phone the station to ask about it. But her tears quickly dried when an off-duty firefighter named Nyma showed up at her door.
A ring camera caught Georgia and Nyma’s exchange, and the owner of Bows Boutique posted the video on the store’s Instagram page. Amy and Chloe had been best friends for a long time. They did almost everything together: walking to school side by side every morning, sitting next to each other at lunch and spending every weekend together. Everything was perfect until a new girl named Sarah appeared.
Sarah was cool — she had a new smartphone, wore expensive and fashionable clothes, and always had a big group of girls around her. Soon, Chloe began to push Amy away. She no longer walked to school with Amy, nor did she sit with her at lunch. She even cancelled all their weekend plans to stay with Sarah. Amy felt heartbroken and lonely.
One afternoon, Amy cried to her mom. “Chloe doesn’t like me any more,” she said. “She only likes Sarah. I don’t have any friends.” Her mom sat down and hugged her gently. “Friendships change,” she said. “Sometimes it doesn’t mean you have done anything wrong. It just means you’re growing into different people.” But Amy didn’t believe mom’s words. She tried hard to be as cool as Sarah, buying fancy clothes and copying her way of talking. However, none of these worked, and Chloe still ignored her.
One day, Chloe and Sarah had a terrible fight over a small thing. Sarah shouted madly and said a lot of bad words about Chloe. Chloe ran to the bathroom, crying. Amy found her there. Chloe said sorry to Amy and told her she missed their old good days.
Amy’s heart softened and she forgave (原谅) Chloe. However, she realized that she didn’t want to go back to how things were. She had already made two new friends, Mia and Ollie, who loved her for exactly who she was.

“Tom!”
No answer.
“What’s that boy doing? Tom!”
The old lady went to the door and looked out at the garden. No Tom.
“Tom!”
There was a noise behind her. She turned just in time to catch Tom by his belt and stop him.
“What were you doing in that cupboard?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing! Look at your hands and your mouth. What is that?”
“I don’t know, Aunt.”
“Well, I know. It’s jam. I’ve told you forty times that I’ll beat you if you don’t leave that jam alone. Give me that stick.”
“Look behind you, Aunt!”
She turned round quickly and lifted up her skirt, and the boy ran away.
His Aunt Polly stood surprised, and then laughed.
“What a boy! I really don’t know what to do. I should beat him when he does wrong. But he’s my dead sister’s boy, and I don’t like to hit him.”
Tom didn’t go to school that afternoon. He went swimming and had a very good time. He got back just in time to help cut the next day’s wood. Tom’s younger half-brother Sid was helping, too. Sid was a quiet boy and no trouble.
While Tom was eating his supper, Aunt Polly asked:
“Was it very hot in school?” “Yes, Aunt.”
“Didn’t you want to go swimming, Tom?”
“No, Aunt, not very much.”
She felt Tom’s shirt, and she was surprised to find it dry.
“We poured water on our heads to keep cool,” he said.
Aunt Polly looked closely and saw that his hair was wet. Then she remembered something else.
“Did you have to undo (解开) your collar (衣领) where I sewed (缝补) it to your shirt?” Tom showed her that the collar was still in place.
“Oh! I was sure you didn’t go to school and you went swimming instead. But this time you were good, Tom.”

In ancient China, there was a wise teacher named Confucius. Among his many students, one was named Zengzi, who was known for his deep respect and good manners.
One day, Confucius was sitting in his room, teaching several students. Zengzi was sitting on his mat (席子), listening carefully to his teacher’s words.
As Confucius spoke, he shared an important lesson about virtue and respect. Then he said, “A truly wise person always shows respect to those who are older and wiser.”
Hearing this, Zengzi suddenly stood up from his mat. He moved aside and bowed deeply to Confucius.
The other students looked at him in surprise. They did not understand why he had left his seat.
Confucius smiled and asked, “Zengzi, why did you rise from your mat?”
Zengzi replied respectfully, “My teacher, you were speaking about respect. How could I sit comfortably on my mat while hearing such an important lesson? I must show my respect to you and to the wisdom you share.”
Confucius nodded with satisfaction. He said to the other students, “You see? This is what true respect looks like. Zengzi understands that learning is not just about listening with your ears. It is about showing respect with your whole heart.”

“The hound!” Holmes cried suddenly. “Come, Watson! Come!”
We ran quickly across the dark moor. A final, desperate scream broke the quiet, and then came a dull, heavy sound. The night fell deathly silent. Holmes pressed his hands to his forehead and stamped his feet in frustration.
“We are too late,” he said in a low voice, angrily.
Suddenly, we heard a low moan. A man was lying on the rocks. As we walked closer, we saw the dead body of Sir Henry Baskerville. He was wearing his brown tweed suit. “Oh no!” I cried out, feeling my blood run cold. Holmes knelt quickly beside the body, and then suddenly he began laughing. “A beard!” he said. “This isn’t Sir Henry—it’s Selden, the escaped prisoner!”
The truth hit me at once. Sir Henry had given his old clothes to Barrymore, who had secretly passed them to Selden. “The suit killed him,” Holmes said quietly. “Someone gave the hound Sir Henry’s scent—probably the stolen boot from the London hotel—and it hunted the wrong man.”
Suddenly, we saw someone walking towards us. It was Stapleton. Holmes whispered: “Don’t let him see your suspicions.”
“Dr Watson!” Stapleton asked, in surprise. “What brings you out here at this hour? I heard a strange noise and came to check on Sir Henry.” He saw the body and froze. “Is that him?”
“It’s Selden,” I said. “He’s dead.”
Stapleton tried to overcome his amazement and disappointment, “Terrible,” he murmured. “I feared the worst for Sir Henry.”
“Sir Henry is safe,” Holmes said coldly. Stapleton then recognized him and smiled nervously. “Mr Holmes! I didn’t know you were here. Can you solve the mystery of the Hound of the Baskervilles?”
Holmes shrugged. “We cannot solve every mystery. Anyway, I’ll return to London tomorrow.”
With that, we left for Baskerville Hall, leaving Stapleton to walk home alone. Poor Selden lay still on the rocks.

The first day of seventh grade felt like stepping into a giant maze. Everything was too big, too loud, and too hard to understand. Lily held her schedule tightly as she walked through hallways crowded with students who seemed to already know exactly where they were going.
Her stomach felt uncomfortable when she looked for an empty seat in the dining hall. Every table was packed with groups of friends laughing and chatting like they had known each other for years. Lily thought about eating lunch in the bathroom just to avoid the embarrassing walk alone.
Then she noticed a girl sitting by herself near the window, reading a book with a bright blue cover. Lily took a deep breath and walked over.
“Is this seat taken?” Lily asked, her voice only above a whisper.
The girl looked up and smiled. “Not at all. I’m Maya.”
“I’m Lily. Is the book good?”
“It’s amazing,” Maya said, her eyes lighting up. “It’s about a girl who discovers she can talk to animals.”
Just like that, a friendship took root—simple, unplanned, and unshakable.
As weeks passed, Lily and Maya became inseparable. They shared lunches, walked between classes, and studied together in the library. But one day, everything changed during their science class.
Lily had worked hard on their poster about ocean pollution, but when Mr. Thompson asked her a question, her mind went completely empty. She stood there, face burning red, unable to speak. The classroom felt like it was spinning.
To her surprise, Maya stepped in smoothly, answering the question perfectly while giving Lily a warm and comforting smile. After class, Maya found her crying in the bathroom.
“I’m so sorry,” Lily said, wiping her eyes. “I totally froze. I embarrassed you.”
“Hey,” Maya said gently, sitting beside her. “That was nothing. That’s what partners are for—filling in when the other person needs help.”
Those words stuck with Lily for years to come. She learned that true friendship isn’t about being perfect together; it’s about being imperfect together and still showing up. Growth doesn’t always look like straight A’s or winning every competition. Sometimes, growth is simply learning to let someone see your vulnerable (脆弱的) moments.
By the end of that year, Lily wasn’t the scared new girl any more. She was someone who had learned that asking for help takes more courage than pretending (假装) to have everything solved. And that was perhaps the most important lesson she would ever learn.

I think everyone has something they don’t like about themselves. For me, it was the birthmark (胎记) on my face. It was bright red, the colour of a strawberry.
Sometimes, I felt people were secretly looking at my face. But when I turned my head, they looked away. On crowded buses and trains, it felt just like a disaster. With so many people around me, my birthmark burned red hot. Therefore, I always kept my hair long to cover it until that day.
It was a cloudy morning. A new student named Maddie arrived in our class. She sat right beside me. Instead of looking away, Maddie studied my face. This made me so nervous. Clouds came through the window and filled my heart. Suddenly, she said something I would never forget.
“Sally, right?” she said. “You have a red rose on your face. How beautiful!”
I looked up and met her smiling eyes. ________ Although I only replied “thank you”, it turned sunny in my heart. When I got home, I rushed to the bathroom and looked in the mirror.

1.Why did Albert’s father bring a compass to him?
A.Because Albert needed to learn about the compass.
B.Because Albert was sick and could not play outside.
C.Because Albert took great interest in space science.
D.Because his family wanted to encourage his curiosity.
2.How did Albert Einstein feel after receiving the compass from his father?
A.He was curious about how the compass worked.
B.He was lucky to have such an amazing compass.
C.He was surprised to look at the compass closely.
D.He was interested in reading the letters on it.
3.How did the compass help start Albert’s way of thinking like a scientist?
A.He began experiments to see its relationship with all the objects.
B.He got to know the speed of light is the same everywhere in space.
C.He wondered whether there were unknown forces that played a part.
D.He was encouraged to read as many books as possible in some ways.
4.What can we infer from the underlined sentence in the last paragraph?
A.Albert would travel around the world as an explorer.

Lando began racing at a young age. When he entered F1 in 2019, everyone had high hopes for him. However, he didn’t have very good results. He made mistakes and didn’t win any race until the 2024 Miami Grand Prix (美国迈阿密大奖赛). Some unkind people called him Lando “No-wins.” They laughed at him and doubted his abilities and skills.
Lando was once very sad about this. But he managed to keep positive and continued to work hard. He turned the doubts and criticism (批判) into fuel to become a better driver and person. Finally, he answered all the doubters and critics with his first F1 world title.
Lando may not look very cool or have a strong personality like the other world champions before him, but he works hard for every race and plays fair; he supports his team and even stays to help mechanics (机械师) take apart the cars after races. Even during hard times, he always had a smile on his face. A person like that isn’t just a champion on the track-he’s a role model off it as well.

1.Which of the following activities did Izzie’s grandpa do with her?
①making snow angels together at noon ②playing the violin around the bonfire
③reading a winter poem to the guests ④enjoying the strange huge shadows
A.①③④ B.②③④ C.①②④ D.①②③
2.What’s the correct order of the events?
a. Uncle Bert gives Grandpa’s violin to Izzie as a gift.
b. Guests get together and the celebration is going to start.
c. Izzie plays the violin bravely at the celebration.
d. Grandpa and Izzie used to make snow angels on Winter Solstice.
e. Izzie doesn’t touch the violin for a long time because of missing Grandpa.
A.d → e → a → b → c B.d → a → e → c → b
C.a → e → d → b → c D.a → d → e → b → c
3.What can we infer (推断) from the passage?
A.It’s meaningful for people to hold a celebration on the solstice.
B.Izzie can feel the love of family around, warm like sunshine.
C.When the bonfire began, Grandpa was the first to play his fiddle.
D.Izzie seldom played the violin in front of others before Grandpa passed away.
4.Which is the best title for the passage?
A.A solstice celebration B.The sun stands still
C.A warm-hearted uncle D.The violin remains there
【答案】1.C 2.A 3.D 4.B
【导语】本文讲述了Izzie在冬至这天怀念已故的爷爷,最终勇敢地拿起爷爷的小提琴演奏,感受到家人温暖的故事。
1.第二段指出:“making snow angels with Grandpa at noon”(①正确)、“their shadows would look like two skinny huge men with wings”(④正确);第十二段指出:“Grandpa was always first. When the bonfire began, he’d step onto the chair and play his favorite song”(②正确);未提到“reading a winter poem to the guests”(③错误)。因此①②④正确。
2.故事顺序为:第二段提到过去祖孙一起做雪天使(d:“making snow angels with Grandpa at noon”);第五段提到Izzie几周没碰小提琴(e:“She hasn’t picked it up for weeks.”);第七段Uncle Bert送来爷爷的小提琴(a:“He hands Izzie a case. ‘It’s Grandpa’s violin.’”);第十段提到宾客聚集庆祝开始(b:“All guests have arrived, talking and laughing”);第十七段至结尾Izzie勇敢演奏(c:“She steps up onto the chair...plays the violin”),因此d→e→a→b→c。
3.文中提到妈妈说Izzie不喜欢有听众(第六段“You know Izzie doesn’t like a listener”),Izzie在聚会上演奏时手在颤抖(第十七段“hands shaking”),并假装没人观看(第十七段“pretending no one is watching”),说明她以前很少在众人面前演奏小提琴。因此D项“Izzie seldom played the violin in front of others before Grandpa passed away.”符合推断。B项和C项为原文直接细节,不属于推断。
4.文中多次出现太阳的意象:第八段爷爷告诉Izzie古人认为“the sun stood still on winter solstice”,小提琴上刻着“a sun”,第九段爷爷去世后Izzie感到“the sun stands still”,暗示失去爷爷生活仿佛停滞;最后一段Izzie演奏后感受到家人的爱“warm like sunshine”,象征爷爷的陪伴与温暖仍在。因此“The sun stands still”作为标题既能呼应冬至太阳静止的传统说法,又隐喻爷爷的离去与爱的回归。

A.She was not good at English writing B.She was afraid of speaking in public
C.Her teacher didn’t think she could win D.She had no time to prepare for it
2.What did the writer do to prepare for the competition?
A.She practiced speaking every day B.She learned body language from her classmates

A.Nervous and scared B.Surprised and sad
C.Encouraged and relaxed D.Worried and upset
4.What does the writer want to tell us through the story?

Georgia, who works for a popular fashion store in the UK named Bows Boutique, left her purse at a gas station after her company party in early December. She was heartbroken, but thinking someone must have taken it away, she gave up the idea of going back to look for it and didn’t phone the station to ask about it. But her tears quickly dried when an off-duty firefighter named Nyma showed up at her door.
A ring camera caught Georgia and Nyma’s exchange, and the owner of Bows Boutique posted the video on the store’s Instagram page. In it, Nyma rang her doorbell and Georgia answered it using a phone app. Nyma explained where he found the lost purse and said he decided to drive straight to her house so she wouldn’t have to experience an extra moment of panic.
Georgia was moved to tears and kept offering to send Nyma money for his good deed, but he refused. He simply asked her to pay it forward, and explained that it was no trouble for him though Georgia knew he needed to drive hours to her house. Because she wasn’t home at the time, he left the purse in an empty garbage bag and left.
The owner and Georgia were so touched by the gesture, and they started a search for the mystery man so they could give him a proper “thank you”. It didn’t take long to find him. They invited him to the store for an official meet — and he went. “He is such a kind man,” reads another post. “It was a pleasure to meet him. The video has got millions of views and we hope he will be a positive influence on many.”
1.Why didn’t Georgia go back to look for her purse or call the gas station?

a. Nyma drove to Georgia’s house.
b. Georgia left her purse at a gas station.
c. The store posted the video online and searched for Nyma.
d. Nyma found Georgia’s lost purse.
e. Georgia attended her company party.
A.ebdac B.dbace C.ebadc D.bdcae
4.What can we infer from the passage?
A.Georgia was at home when Nyma arrived.
B.The video on Instagram made Nyma famous.
C.Nyma found Georgia’s address by contacting the police.
D.The owner of Bows Boutique will give Nyma a big present.
【答案】1.B 2.D 3.A 4.B
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文,讲述Georgia丢失钱包后,消防员Nyma无偿送还,店主发布视频传播善意的故事。
1.第一段指出:“thinking someone must have taken it away, she gave up the idea of going back to look for it and didn’t phone the station to ask about it”,说明她以为钱包被人拿走了。
4.最后一段提到:“The video has got millions of views”,可推断视频让Nyma受到广泛关注。

C.A Journey to Find a True Self D.An Effort to Be a Cool Girl
1.第一段通过描述她们一起做的事情来展示友谊:“walking to school side by side every morning, sitting next to each other at lunch and spending every weekend together.”每天早晨并肩走路上学、午餐时坐在一起、每周末一起度过。这些都是具体的动作描写,而非对话、环境或情感。
2.前文提到“Amy tried hard to be as cool as Sarah... However, none of these worked, and Chloe still ignored her.”Amy努力变得像Sarah一样酷……然而这些都没用,Chloe仍然不理她。可见“ignored”意为“忽视、不理睬”。选项D“Paid no attention to”,不注意,最接近。A“表现出兴趣”,B“与……相处融洽”,C“不知道”,均不正确。
3.第三段写道“She tried hard to be as cool as Sarah, buying fancy clothes and copying her way of talking. However, none of these worked, and Chloe still ignored her.”
最后一段写道“She had already made two new friends, Mia and Ollie, who loved her for exactly who she was.”
“Tom!”
No answer.
“Tom!”
But Sid said:
“I’m sure you sewed his collar with white thread, but it’s black.”
“Yes, I did sew it with white! Tom!”

【答案】1.C 2.D 3.A 4.B
1.根据第八段“She turned just in time to catch Tom by his belt and stop him.”对应事件①;根据倒数第五段,波莉姨妈质问汤姆:“Did you have to undo your collar where I sewed it to your shirt?” 这句话表明缝补衣领的动作发生在汤姆逃学之前,对应事件③;根据第十八段“Tom didn’t go to school that afternoon. He went swimming and had a very good time.”对应事件④;根据倒数第二段“I’m sure you sewed his collar with white thread, but it’s black.”对应事件②。因此事件顺序为:③缝衣领→①被抓→④逃学游泳→②指出线色不同。
2.根据第十七段“I should beat him when he does wrong. But he’s my dead sister’s boy, and I don’t like to hit him”,表明她认为汤姆犯错时应受惩罚(严格),但又因疼爱而不忍心打他(善良)。同时她仔细检查汤姆的头发和衣领,体现出她的细心和严格。
3.根据画线句“She turned round quickly and lifted up her skirt, and the boy ran away”出现在汤姆说“Look behind you, Aunt!”之后。汤姆明知身后没有人,却以此骗姨妈转身,趁机逃跑。因此A项“Tom tricked Aunt Polly into looking behind her”正确。
因此B项“He will run away again to avoid punishment”最符合逻辑。
From that day on, the other students learned from Zengzi’s example. They understood that a person who truly respects knowledge will always show it through their actions.
1.Where did the story take place?
A.In a school hall. B.In a garden. C.In Confucius’s room. D.In Zengzi’s room.
2.According to Confucius, what does a truly wise person always do?
A.He always listens carefully. B.He always asks questions in class.
C.He always sits on a mat when learning. D.He always shows respect to those older and wiser.
3.Why did Zengzi suddenly stand up from his mat?
A.He felt tired and wanted to move his legs.
B.He wanted to ask Confucius a question.
C.He was surprised by what Confucius said.
D.He wanted to show his respect after hearing about respect.
4.What lesson can we learn from the story of Zengzi?
A.Learning is only about listening carefully.
B.True respect is shown through actions, not just words.
C.Older people should always be obeyed without question.
D.Students should never leave their seats during a lesson.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.D 4.B

【导语】本文为小说节选,讲述福尔摩斯与华生深夜在荒原发现尸体,识破误杀真相并巧妙应对嫌疑人的经过。
1.第一二段描绘场景:“Holmes cried suddenly”和“We ran quickly across the dark moor. A final, desperate scream broke the quiet”,借助急促动作与突发声响渲染紧张压抑的氛围。

1.What does the underlined word “embarrassing” in Paragraph 2 mean in this story?
A.Strange. B.Guilty. C.Uncomfortable. D.Unfriendly.
2.What words can describe Lily and Maya’s friendship according to the story?
A.Simple but strong. B.Perfect and easy. C.Quiet but painful. D.Short and forgettable.
3.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Courage to Reach Out B.Facing Fear Alone
C.The Value of Being Perfect D.Helping Each Other in Class

1.文章第二段提到“Every table was packed with groups of friends laughing and chatting like they had known each other for years. Lily thought about eating lunch in the bathroom just to avoid the embarrassing walk alone.”,描述了餐厅里其他学生都有朋友相伴,而Lily独自一人,她甚至想躲在厕所吃饭以避免独自走过的尴尬。由此可推断,“embarrassing”在此处意为“令人尴尬的”,与“uncomfortable”意思相近。

For the first time, I could look at my birthmark without quickly turning away. The shape of it was really like a flower. The next day, to my surprise, Maddie painted a red rose on her own face!
I haven’t told Maddie the whole story yet. Anyway, she has changed me. I have already learnt that I am what I am. Everyone has something special and different—that is what’s interesting.
