There’s hardly a country on the planet that doesn’t turn to some type of bread with something stuffed inside it to satisfy an appetite. Traveling the world’s sandwiches is, in a way, like traveling the world. Each variety tells a story of local culture and flavor. Bocadillo de jamón Ibérico, Spain Spain’s Bocadillo de jamón Ibérico features excellent Iberian ham from acorn-fed pigs. Thinly sliced meat is piled on hard-shelled bread brushed with extra pure olive oil. Fresh tomatoes and cheese can be added, but the ham is undoubtedly the star. This simple sandwich highlights the luxury of Spanish ham. Shawarma, Middle East The Middle Eastern shawarma gets its name from the Arabic word for “turning”, referring to its meat cooking on a vertical spit It spreads to Greece as gyro and Germany as doner kebab. Barbecued spiced meat is put into pita bread, topped with tomatoes, onions and sauces, making it a beloved street food. Montreal smoked meat sandwich, Canada Canada’s Montreal smoked meat sandwich uses smoked beef breast meat layered between light rye bread with sharp yellow mustard (芥末酱). The best meat soaks in salt water and flavorings like coriander and garlic for up to two weeks before smoking and hand-slicing, creating a rich, flavorful treat. Croque monsieur/madame, France France’s Croque monsieur/madame is a classic cafe snack. The monsieur has ham and Emmental cheese in white bread, dipped in egg batter (糊) and pan-fried. The madame adds a fried egg on top. This crispy sandwich shows French attention to simple, delicious ingredients. 1. What is the feature of Spain’s Bocadillo de jamón Ibérico? A. It is cooked for a long time on the spit. B. It needs to be fried with pure olive oil. C. It is typically made without pork ham. D. It highlights high-quality Iberian ham. 2. Why does shawarma get its name? A. For the way it was made. B. For how it was served. C. For its special ingredient. D. For its importing countries. 3. How is Croque madame different from Croque monsieur? A. It uses different cheese. B. It has a fried egg on top. C. It is dipped in egg batter. D. It is made with different bread. B At 9 am, Mr Chambers operates on a patient’s spine (脊柱) with practiced precision under the shadowless lights in the hospital. Every move is careful, keeping the delicate balance between nerves and bones. Over 10 hours later, his hands slide over piano keys, playing passionate tunes for a rock band on stage, bathed in bright lights and surrounded by loud sound devices. This sharp contrast defines Mr Chambers’ life. He has a double identity: a physician in spinal surgery at a famous hospital and the band’s keyboardist. When asked whether he is the most rock-and-roll doctor or the best surgeon among musicians, he replies without hesitation that being a doctor is his main job. His answer shows a clear priority as a modern “slashie”, who pursues multiple occupations at the same time. Mr Chambers’ musical journey started at 5 with an old accordion (手风琴), which once belonged to his mother who had to give up her musical dream due to material shortage. After becoming a doctor, his medical work and music pursuit advanced side by side. His parents’ attitude changed from cautious worry to full support. He arranges his week strictly, pressing band practices into spare time after busy work, relying on self-discipline and sacrifice to avoid distractions. He says both careers need solid basic skills but follow different principles: medicine requires strict procedures with no room for error, while music allows creativity and experimentation. The two fields complement each other — music improves his hand skill for surgery, and hospital experiences deepen his understanding of humanity, providing nutrition for his musical creation. Mr Chambers admires Brian May, who shines at both astrophysics and music, seeing him as an idol. As a vivid slashie example, he believes this lifestyle will become mainstream. He encourages youngsters with multiple passions to dare to try and persist, pointing out growing social tolerance for multiple identities, a symbol of continuous social advancement. 4. What can we infer about Mr Chambers from the first two paragraphs? A. He works overtime to treat patients. B. He leads a totally boring daily life. C. He performs music to reduce pressure. D. He owns two totally different roles. 5. Why did his parents support his music? A. He balanced time very well. B. His mother’s dream came true. C. Music improved his operations. D. He resolved to win great praise. 6. How do medicine and music interact with each other according to Mr Chambers? A. Strict medical rules shape his musical creativity. B. Musical practice helps sharpen his surgical skills. C. Hospital life inspires him to create uplifting music. D. Performing on stage helps ease his surgical pressure. 7. What does Mr Chambers think of slashie lifestyle? A. It is far from realistic. B. It suits talented people. C. It will become trendy. D. It relies on natural gifts. C Emperor penguins have braved cold, storms, starvation and predation to breed (交配繁殖), ensuring their population survives. But climate change might defeat the iconic Antarctic birds. On April 9, emperor penguins were officially moved from threatened to endangered status by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). It’s the breakup and loss of sea ice around Antarctica that are driving the birds toward the edge, scientists say. Over the last decade, Antarctica has seen record lows in the expanse of sea ice that borders the continent, and the breakup of the ice is also occurring earlier in the year. That’s disastrous for emperor penguins, which require fast ice — sea ice that is immobile for most of the year — to breed and raise their young. If the ice breaks apart too soon, it exposes the chicks to a significant threat of drowning or fatal freezing, given that they have not yet developed waterproof feathers (羽毛). In 2022, satellites observed the striking loss of five separate emperor penguin breeding sites near the Bellingshausen Sea: The sea ice beneath them broke apart, leading to an estimated loss of some 10,000 chicks. Current emperor penguin populations are estimated at around 595,000 adults, a decrease of 10 percent to 22 percent relative to 2009. The current population number is expected to halve by 2080, IUCN says. “The emperor penguin’s move to endangered is a sharp warning: Climate change is accelerating the extinction crisis before our eyes,” Martin Harper, CEO of BirdLife International, said in a statement. The loss of sea ice is also responsible for rapidly pushing the Antarctic fur seal several steps closer to extinction, the IUCN report says. Climate change is also the driver in the seals’ decline: Rising ocean temperatures and melting sea ice are pushing their primary food source, krill (南极磷虾), to deeper ocean depths. As a result, seal pups are far less likely to survive their first year. 8. Why were emperor penguins listed as endangered? A. They suffer extreme storms when breeding. B. Their homes are being seriously damaged. C. They are increasingly visited by humans. D. Their ability to breed is dropping sharply. 9. What will happen to chicks if sea ice breaks up too early? A. They will lose most of feathers. B. They cannot hide from hunters. C. They will fail to grow feathers. D. They may not survive in icy water. 10. What does the fur seal example illustrate? A. Sea ice loss causes chain reactions in the ecosystem. B. Different species face identical threats in Antarctica. C. Fur seals compete with penguins for breeding space. D. Rising ocean temperatures benefit deep-water species. 11. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. Emperor Penguins’ Fight for Survival. B. IUCN Updates Endangered Species List. C. Climate Change Threatens Antarctic Species. D. Climate Change Affects How Sea Ice Forms. D If just seeing someone take up two parking spots makes your blood boil, or you lie in bed each night replaying in your mind that someone took credit for your hard work, you know how difficult it is to let go of a grudge. Holding a complaint can somehow bring a strange sense of satisfaction, as if you’re proving that you’ve been unfairly wronged by others. However, unresolved hurt can be emotionally tiring, and forgiveness, when it is safe and appropriate, may help loosen some of that stress. A new study shows that being a forgiving kind benefits both your body and mind. The researchers investigated “dispositional forgiveness” — a person’s forgiving nature. Being high in it seems to give you an edge on many fronts, including psychological well-being, purpose in life, relationship satisfaction and hope. What happens in your brain when you get past a hurt? Brain imaging studies show its powerful and fast-acting effects: Letting go of an offense activates pathways and parts of the brain that improve resilience (恢复力) to adversity and social bonds, according to a study review in Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews. The good news is that anyone can learn this vital skill — being forgiving. How? To begin with, understand that the real reason you hold onto hurt is that you’re disappointed with how something turned out. As Fred Luskin, director of the Stanford Forgiveness Projects, puts it, “I’d heard similar stories that amounted to. I had this picture of how it was supposed to go, and then this other thing happened, and I couldn’t forgive that difference’. Forgiveness is about accepting life’s imperfections, making peace with the world telling you ‘no’.” Some people find it much harder to forgive others, especially self-centered people and those with very reactive nervous systems that get fired up quickly. “Forgiveness often unfolds gradually, rather than all at once,” Scientist Richard Cowden notes. “It may help to think of it as a muscle that can be built with practice.” 12. What does the underlined word “grudge” in paragraph 1 mean? A. A cruel punishment. B. A past mistake. C. A sense of relief. D. A feeling of anger. 13. What effect does forgiveness have on the brain? A. It helps build the defense against life’s hardships. B. It reduces the activity of negative brain pathways. C. It slows down the reaction of the nervous system. D. It improves the ability to make immediate decision. 14. What prevents people from forgiving according to Fred Luskin? A. Their refusal to admit their own mistakes. B. Their discontent with the unmet expectation. C. Their lack of trust in other people’s good will. D. Their fear of suffering from similar hurt again. 15. What does Richard Cowden say about forgiveness? A. It emerges quickly. B. It uses little energy. C. It can be trained gradually. D. It belongs to certain people. Struggling with sleep anxiety? Here are some ways to fix it. Wake up at the same time every day Research has shown that a consistent wake-up time trains your body’s internal clock — or circadian rhythm — to know when to feel sleepy. A sleep scientist compares this to a “sleep balloon”: It’s empty when you wake up and slowly fills throughout the day. ____16____. Sticking to the same wake-up time, even on weekends, keeps this system running smoothly. Schedule a “worry time” during the day Instead of letting anxieties come flooding in your mind at night, set aside 10-15 minutes earlier on to actively think through your concerns. Write them down if it helps. That way, when your mind starts racing at 2 am, you can tell yourself, “I already did my worrying for the day.” ____17____. Replace a fixed bedtime with a calming wind-down (放松) routine ____18____. Instead, pick a time to shift from day mode to night mode. Choose a specific time to begin winding down. ____19____. The simple routine tells your body it’s time to rest, without the pressure of “I need to sleep now”. And when the pressure’s gone, sleep often comes more easily. ____20____ Those devices can provide useful insight into your sleep patterns, but they can also lead to orthosomnia — insomnia fueled by the pressure to achieve perfect sleep data. Ask yourself: Is this information supporting better habits, or is it adding to your anxiety? If you’re waking up feeling more refreshed, take that as a win. But if you’re stressed by the numbers, it might be time to unplug (拔掉…… A. Use sleep trackers carefully B. Once it’s full, you’re ready for sleep C. Adjust your expectations accordingly D. Then, give yourself permission to let it go E. Reshaping your sleep habits is only half the battle F. This might mean shutting off screens and lowering the lights G. Don’t push yourself to fall asleep at a set hour when you’re not yet tired 第三部分 语言运用 (共两节,满分30分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Years ago, Julie Labes was to have her gallbladder (胆囊) removed. He desperately wanted us to come for a visit. I am by nature a homebody and a nervous flyer. The prospect of flying alone on a journey of this length was challenging for me, as my husband, Len, was unable to get away due to work. I finally gave in and made my travel plans. About two weeks before I was due to leave, Len and I went to visit our daughter, Annemarie, at Indiana University. Annemarie, our only daughter, was the last bird to leave the nest. It seemed like only yesterday that I was tucking (给某人掖好被子) her into bed with her favorite teddy bear, Kiki. And now she was a lovely young woman, off on her own. Kiki had been on Annemarie’s bed for as long as I could recall. It was her (and my) favorite stuffed bear and the only stuffed animal that she selected to take to college with her. I remember holding Kiki while I was sitting in her room chatting with her while she would be getting ready for a contest. Or Annemarie would hold Kiki while she bared her soul to me about friendship and the struggles of life. We had a great weekend. We cheered at the football game, ate at excellent restaurants and hung around together. It was fascinating to observe she enjoyed her new environment. Annemarie knew the journey to Germany was weighing heavily on my mind. After the weekend, it was time for us to make our drive back home. Annemarie presented me with a gift bag and told me I could not open it until I was on the road. I left her unwillingly and we started home. After a half hour of driving, I couldn’t wait to open the bag. The gift inside the bag surprised and touched me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Days later, I set off on my journey to Germany. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 英语试题 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? D 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第二段中的“This sharp contrast defines Mr Chambers’ life. He has a double identity: a physician in spinal surgery at a famous hospital and the band’s keyboardist.(这鲜明的反差正是钱伯斯先生人生的写照。他有着双重身份:既是知名医院的脊柱外科医生,也是这支乐队的键盘手。)”可知,从前两段我们能推断出钱伯斯医生和乐队键盘手两种截然不同的身份。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“His parents’ attitude changed from cautious worry to full support. He arranges his week strictly, pressing band practices into spare time after busy work, relying on self-discipline and sacrifice to avoid distractions.(他父母的态度从小心翼翼的担忧转变为全力支持。他严格规划每周时间,把乐队排练挤入繁忙工作之余的空闲时段,依靠自律与自我牺牲,不受外界纷扰影响。)”可知,他自律规划时间、平衡工作与音乐,让父母放心并给予支持。 【6题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The two fields complement each other — music improves his hand skill for surgery, and hospital experiences deepen his understanding of humanity, providing nutrition for his musical creation.(这两个领域相辅相成——音乐能提升他做手术的手部熟练度,而从医院工作中获得的阅历又加深了他对人性的理解,为他的音乐创作提供了养分。)” 根据最后一段“As a vivid slashie example, he believes this lifestyle will become mainstream.(作为一名典型的斜杠青年代表,他认为这种生活方式将会成为主流。)” C Emperor penguins have braved cold, storms, starvation and predation to breed (交配繁殖), ensuring their population survives. B 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第二段“It’s the breakup and loss of sea ice around Antarctica that are driving the birds toward the edge, scientists say.(科学家表示,南极海冰的消融与消退,正迫使这类鸟类走向生存绝境。)”和“That’s disastrous for emperor penguins, which require fast ice — sea ice that is immobile for most of the year — to breed and raise their young.(这对帝企鹅而言是灭顶之灾,因为它们依赖固定海冰(全年大部分时间保持静止不动的海冰)来繁衍后代、抚育幼崽。)” 根据第二段“If the ice breaks apart too soon, it exposes the chicks to a significant threat of drowning or fatal freezing, given that they have not yet developed waterproof feathers.(如果海冰过早崩裂,小企鹅就会面临溺水或冻死的巨大危险,因为它们此时还没长出防水羽毛。)” 根据最后一段“The loss of sea ice is also responsible for rapidly pushing the Antarctic fur seal several steps closer to extinction, the IUCN report says. Climate change is also the driver in the seals’ decline: Rising ocean temperatures and melting sea ice are pushing their primary food source, krill (南极磷虾), to deeper ocean depths.(世界自然保护联盟(IUCN)的报告称,海冰的消失也正让南极毛皮海豹加速走向灭绝。 D If just seeing someone take up two parking spots makes your blood boil, or you lie in bed each night replaying in your mind that someone took credit for your hard work, you know how difficult it is to let go of a grudge. D 13. A 14. B 15. 根据上文“If just seeing someone take up two parking spots makes your blood boil, or you lie in bed each night replaying in your mind that someone took credit for your hard work,(只要看到有人一个车占两个停车位就让你怒火中烧,或是每晚躺在床上反复回想:别人抢走了你辛苦付出的功劳)”可知,上文列举了让人愤怒的两件事:别人霸占两个停车位、窃取自己的劳动成果,这两件事让人们明白放下心中的怨恨有多难。 根据第三段“Letting go of an offense activates pathways and parts of the brain that improve resilience (恢复力) to adversity and social bonds.(放下他人的冒犯行为,会激活大脑的神经通路与相关区域,从而增强人的逆境抗压能力,并促进人际交往联结。)” 根据第四段“To begin with, understand that the real reason you hold onto hurt is that you’re disappointed with how something turned out.(首先要明白,你一直放不下伤痛的真正原因,是你对事情最终的结局感到失望。)”和“I had this picture of how it was supposed to go, and then this other thing happened, and I couldn’t forgive that difference.(我原本预想事情本该是某种发展走向,结果却发生了完全不一样的状况,而我始终无法释怀这种落差。)” 根据第五段““Forgiveness often unfolds gradually, rather than all at once,” Scientist Richard Cowden notes. “It may help to think of it as a muscle that can be built with practice.”(科学家理查德・考登指出:“宽恕往往是慢慢释怀的,而非一蹴而就。不妨把它看作一块肌肉,勤加练习就能慢慢练就。”)”可知,宽恕可以循序渐进训练习得。 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Struggling with sleep anxiety? Don’t push yourself to fall asleep at a set hour when you’re not yet tired 【答案】16. B 17. D 18. G 19. F 20. 【16题详解】 上文“It’s empty when you wake up and slowly fills throughout the day.(你醒来时气球是空的,随后会在白天慢慢被填满。)” B“Once it’s full, you’re ready for sleep.(气球一充满,你就准备好入睡了。)” 【17题详解】 上文“Instead of letting anxieties come flooding in your mind at night, set aside 10-15 minutes earlier on to actively think through your concerns. 注意: (1)续写词数应为150个左右; (2)请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 The gift inside the bag surprised and touched me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Days later, I set off on my journey to Germany. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The gift inside the bag surprised and touched me. I carefully took out the item and found it was Kiki, Annemarie’s beloved teddy bear. Staring at the soft bear, I froze for a moment, then warmth flooded my heart. I gently stroked its fur, feeling moved deeply. I realized my daughter had noticed my anxiety about the long flight and wanted Kiki to keep me company. A sense of comfort wrapped around me instantly, and I smiled gratefully, holding the bear tightly in my arms. Days later, I set off on my journey to Germany. Clutching Kiki firmly, I stepped onto the plane with courage. Whenever I felt nervous during the flight, I hugged the bear softly and calmed myself down. Its presence eased my fear greatly. When I finally landed, I spotted Rompca at the airport. I waved happily and walked towards him. Seeing the familiar bear in my arms, he looked astonished and then laughed warmly, making my long trip full of sweet warmth. 词汇激活 行为类 ①拿出:take out/pull out ②紧握:clutch/hold tightly ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①紧张的:nervous/tense ②惊讶的:astonished /stunned 【点睛】【高分句型1】I realized my daughter had noticed my anxiety about the long flight and wanted Kiki to keep me company.
