One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace. Before setting off, I researched it on the Internet. The Summer Palace is composed mostly of a lake, but it’s surrounded by beautiful greenery and a walkway that circles the lake. It is recommended that you give the Summer Palace about three hours. If you try to walk around it, it could take five or six hours. With that knowledge of it, I set off.
The highlight of the tour had to be the view from the Tower of Buddhist Incense. It sits on the top of a large hill overlooking the lake and is worth a climb. It was built as a place to admire the Buddha (佛祖). And in the Summer Palace, unlike in most of other places, photography isn’t allowed in most of the buildings. Pictures of most of the Buddhas and the other artifacts are off-limits for photographers.
Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress (慈禧太后) where she watched operas and other theater items. There are box seats that surround the stage and it was the largest stage created in ancient China. You could almost imagine royalty reviewing the actors from the boxes and the stage.
I do recommend taking a boat ride if you go, which takes you from one side of the lake to the other side where you can see another set of buildings. And it is fun. You can also rent an electric boat or paddleboat if you want. But since it was just me, I went aboard one of the biggest boats with other people.
I spent another four hours wandering around the Summer Palace. But I didn’t see all of it because it was getting dark. How I wish I could visit it again.
4. What did the author do before setting off for the Summer Palace?
A. Asked others about it.
B. Learned something about it.
C. Spent three hours researching it.
D. Rented a boat.
5. What does the underlined word “off-limits” in Paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. banned B. allowed.
C. charged. D. limitless.
6. What do we know about the stage mentioned in the text?
A. It sits on the top of a hill.
B. It is the largest stage all over China.
C. It was for royalty to watch performances.
D. Operas are performed there at times.
7. Which of the following correctly describes the author’s tour?
A. She took a boat by herself.
B. She spent four hours in the Summer Palace.
C. She didn’t enjoy the trip because it was too late.
D. She only visited part of the Summer Palace.
B 5. A 6. C 7. D

根据第一段中“One week after I started working in Beijing, I decided to visit a place of interest called the Summer Palace. Before setting off, I researched it on the Internet. (到北京工作一周后,我决定去游览一处名胜——颐和园。出发前,我在网上查阅了相关资料。)”可知,作者出发前在网上查询了解了颐和园的相关信息。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第二段中“And in the Summer Palace, unlike in most of other places, photography isn’t allowed in most of the buildings. Pictures of most of the Buddhas and the other artifacts are off-limits for photographers. (而且和大多数其他地方不同,颐和园里大部分殿宇内禁止拍照。绝大多数佛像以及其他文物藏品的照片对于摄影师而言都是off-limits。)”可知,大多数建筑内不允许拍照,由此可知佛像和文物也是禁止拍摄的,off-limits与前文的isn’t allowed含义接近,意为“禁止的”。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“Another highlight was seeing the stage created for the Dowager Empress (慈禧太后) where she watched operas and other theater items. There are box seats that surround the stage and it was the largest stage created in ancient China. You could almost imagine royalty reviewing the actors from the boxes and the stage. (另一大亮点是看到了为慈禧太后修建的戏台,当年她就在这里观看戏曲和其他剧目表演。戏台四周设有包厢,它也是中国古代规模最大的戏台。你几乎可以想象到皇室贵族坐在包厢里、观赏台上演员表演的场景。)”可知,这个戏台是为慈禧太后建造,供她看戏,文中也提到能想象皇室在包箱看演员,因此它是供皇室观看表演的。
【7题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段中“But I didn’t see all of it because it was getting dark. How I wish I could visit it again. (不过因为天色渐晚,我没能逛完整个园区。我多么希望能再来一次颐和园啊。)”可知,作者因为天黑没看完整个颐和园,只游览了一部分。

Lab-grown chicken is finally making its way onto menus in the United States. The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) has recently given permission for selling cultured (培养的) meat produced by Good Meat and Upside Foods, marking a significant breakthrough for the cultured meat industry. These companies are able to grow small amounts of chicken cells into meat without the need for traditional slaughter (屠宰). However, it’s important to note that this permission is currently limited to chicken products. Both companies still require additional permission to market cell-cultured beef, pork or seafood.
Concerns have been growing among Americans about traditional meat production, which contributes to about 15% of global carbon emissions and can encourage antibiotic-resistant (耐抗生素的) bacteria growth. Additionally, it pollutes waterways with animal waste. And the animals themselves often live relatively short lives in cages. “The current methods of traditional meat production are at the root of many environmental issues,” says Good Meat CEO Josh Tetrick.
Despite these concerns, meat remains a significant part of many people’s diets due to cultural, traditional and nutritional reasons. Cultured meat companies position themselves as producing sustainable and proper meat, aiming to provide meat lovers with a guilt-free choice that satisfies their desire for tasty food.
The production process for lab-grown meat is relatively straightforward, with the main challenge lying in building sufficient production facilities. Both companies, now armed with USDA and FDA permission, can focus on expanding to produce enough cell-cultured meat to meet the demand. At the beginning, lab-grown chicken will only be available at select restaurants, including Bar Crenn in San Francisco and a restaurant owned by chef José Andrés in Washington.
12. What is a key feature of lab-grown chicken?
A. It’s grown from artificial materials.
B. It originates from cultured chicken cells.
C. It has the advantage of low production costs.
D. It’s preferred for its taste over regular chicken.
13. What is the problem with traditional meat production?
A. It goes against its sustainable practices.
B. It fails to meet consumers’ demand for meat.
C. It has a negative impact on the environment.
D. It leads to overcrowded living conditions for animals.
14. What is a current goal for cultured meat companies?
A. To improve the flavor of their products.
B. To obtain further government approvals.
C. To increase their production capabilities.
D. To establish partnerships with restaurants.
15. What is the text mainly about?
A. Cultured meat permitted for sale in the US.
B. The technological advancements in cultured meat.
C. The cultural impact of cultured meat on dietary habits.
D. The environmental influence of traditional meat production.
B 13. C 14. C 15. A

根据第二段中的“Concerns have been growing among Americans about traditional meat production, which contributes to about 15% of global carbon emissions and can encourage antibiotic-resistant (耐抗生素的) bacteria growth. Additionally, it pollutes waterways with animal waste. And the animals themselves often live relatively short lives in cages. “The current methods of traditional meat production are at the root of many environmental issues,” says Good Meat CEO Josh Tetrick.

前文“Marine mammals (海洋哺乳动物) are up against many dangers, many brought about by humans. (海洋哺乳动物正面临许多危险,其中大部分是人类活动造成的)”提到海洋哺乳动物面临诸多危险,后文段落列举具体保护措施,此处是承上启下的过渡句,既要呼应前文的危险,又要引出后文的保护措施,因此D项“Thankfully, there are simple things we can do to help (值得庆幸的是,我们可以采取一些简单的措施来帮助它们)”符合语境,总领后文的四项措施。故选D。
【17题详解】
前文“Our oceans see increasing plastic trash which endangers marine mammals. (我们的海洋中塑料垃圾日益增多,这严重威胁着海洋哺乳动物的生存)”提到海洋塑料增多带来危害,后文“They can become trapped in plastic, which can cause them to suffocate (闷死). Some marine mammals can mistake plastic for food, eat it, and die. Plastic trash in the ocean also causes lacerations (割伤) to these animals, leading to infection and death. (它们可能被塑料制品缠绕而窒息身亡。有些海洋哺乳动物会将塑料误认为食物,吞食后导致死亡。海洋中的塑料垃圾还会割伤这些动物,造成感染甚至致命)”列举具体危害,此处需说明塑料以多种形式造成伤害,与后文形成总分结构,因此C项“There are many ways it is harming marine mammals (塑料正在以多种方式伤害海洋哺乳动物)”符合语境,引出后文三点危害。故选C。
【18题详解】
本段小标题是“Help clean up the beaches (帮助清理海滩)”,后文“Do not leave trash or objects on the beach. Anything you leave on the beach can end up in the water, having the potential to impact or harm what’s living in the water. (切勿在海滩遗留垃圾或其他物品。任何遗留在海滩上的物品都可能最终进入海洋,对水生生物造成潜在威胁甚至伤害)”具体建议不要在海滩上留下物品,并解释原因,此处需提出海滩行为的一般准则,因此E项“Leave the beach like or better than we find it if we visit the beach (离开海滩时保持或做到比来时更干净的状态)”符合语境,呼应清理的主题。故选E。
【19题详解】
前文“Knowing and following the laws is essential whether you live near the ocean or only travel there occasionally. They are in place for a reason. (了解并遵守相关法律法规至关重要——无论你是长期滨海而居还是偶尔到访。这些法规的制定都有着充分的依据)”强调遵守航行法规,后文“Following these rules can help keep marine mammals like manatees safe. (遵守这些规则有助于保护海牛等海洋哺乳动物的安全)”说明遵守具体规则的作用,此处需列出具体法律案例,因此G项“For example, certain waterways are protected areas with speed limitations for boaters (例如,某些水道是保护区,对船只设速限)”符合语境,承前启后。故选G。
【20题详解】
后文“Learn more about the ocean and marine wildlife. (深入了解海洋及海洋野生动物)”和“Visit educational bases working on protecting these animals to learn what you can do to make a difference. (探访动物保护教育基地,了解如何通过实际行动为保护海洋生物贡献力量)”建议学习海洋知识以及参观教育基地,均与教育相关,此处是段落标题,应建议做好海洋教育,且需和其他段落标题一样使用祈使句的形式,因此A项“Educate ourselves (自我教育)”符合语境,概括后文的行动。故选A。

Never Give Up
When we are in trouble, we are always told “ ever give up”. This can be encouraging words and words of determination. A person who believes in himself/herself will keep trying to reach his/her goal no matter how many times he/she fails.
In my opinion, never giving up is a valuable quality in study and life. When I met difficulties in the past, I would be very impatient and wanted to give up. Some day I realized that if I kept giving up all the time, I would be a loser. So I tried to get over my fear and became patient. 47.
In late February, the Van Heerden family’s dog Coco disappeared from their home, leaving the family, especially the young brothers sad. The two brothers had grown inseparable from Coco. They spent nights searching their neighborhood, posting “Lost Dog” posters on every street. They even left a bowl of food and a blanket (毯子) by the door each night, refusing to let hope fade entirely. At the same time, they reported their dog’s missing to the police station.
As time passed week by week, the family gradually lost their original optimism (乐观), yet their daily practice of holding onto hope remained unshaken. “We knew Coco might be gone,” Helen Van Heerden recalled, “but those small acts kept us connected to the possibility of her return. “The brothers’ dedication (奉献) — staying up late to check parks and small streets, asking neighbors for clues — proved that love can last a long time.
The good news came on a Saturday morning in mid-March. As the family packed for a weekend trip, Helen’s phone rang. Adicia Thomas, an officer from the police station, spoke in a rush, “We’ve found Coco! A woman named Joy Matodzi rescued her — she’s safe.”
Alicia Thomas told them the whole story. Weeks earlier, Joy Matodzi, an animal lover who ran a small vegetable stand, was walking home when she saw a man mistreating a trembling dog on a dirt road. When she saw its silver collar (颈圈) and its tearful eyes, she immediately knew that she must help that dog. She was sure that no pet should be treated like trash. When the man demanded $15 to free the dog, Joy paid without hesitation, and then she rushed to the police station to report it.
After Alicia Thomas detailed the story, he asked the Van Heerden family to come to the police station to bring the dog home.
注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右;

Inspired by what Joy did, the two brothers decided to help animals in need.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
The family gave up their trip and drove to the police station in high spirits. As soon as they entered the room, Coco let out an excited bark and dashed toward the brothers, who knelt down to hug her tightly. Tears of joy rolled down their cheeks as they stroked her shaggy fur, checking if she was hurt. Helen held Coco in her arms, murmuring, “We thought we’d lost you forever.” When they met Joy, the family thanked her repeatedly, offering money as a reward, but Joy refused with a smile, saying, “Anyone who loves animals would do the same.”
Inspired by what Joy did, the two brothers decided to help animals in need. They used their pocket money to buy food and water bowls, placing them in parks for stray animals. With their parents’ help, they set up a small “animal rescue corner” in their yard, where they took care of injured cats and dogs they found. They also made posters to call on neighbors to treat animals kindly. Whenever someone asked why they did this, the brothers would say proudly, “Joy saved Coco, and we want to pass on her kindness.”

B. It is the largest stage all over China.
C. It was for royalty to watch performances.
D. Operas are performed there at times.

Colin Moore, a 16-year-old football player, may not leap to the top of the headlines, but his story is as inspiring as any sports story. On the field, Colin plays just as hard as the other players. In a critical moment, he made a bold move that not only scored a touchdown but also energized his teammates. They fought back with renewed strength, ultimately defeating their opponents and winning the championship title.

注意: 1.续写词数应为150个左右;
