Hello, everyone! I’m Zhang Hua. Recently, our community has a new way of life called “Eco-friendly Lifestyle”. The most interesting part is the smart trash bins in our building. To use them, I don’t need a key. I just show my face, and the bin opens by itself. The machine can tell if I put the trash in the right place. If I do it correctly, I can get points. Yesterday, I got 40 points in the morning and 60 points in the evening. With 100 points, I can get a bottle of milk for free from the supermarket nearby. At first, I thought this was a waste of time. But now, I feel it is a great way to protect the environment. Our community is becoming much cleaner.
第五节

We make decisions every day about our study, life and future. And we also wonder how to make a right decision. I hope these ways can be helpful.
First, you should collect information for the situation. For example, if you are working on a school project, search for information online or ask your teachers for help. Second, give yourself enough time to make a decision. Don’t make a decision hurriedly. Suppose that your friends invite you to go on a trip this weekend, but you have made a plan to help your family with housework. Make sure to give yourself time to remember other things before you say “yes”. At last, have a talk with your friends or family members. If it’s difficult to make a decision, talk with your good friends or family. And consider what they say carefully.
If we follow these suggestions, we will make wise decisions and never feel sorry for the choices we make.

①Clara’s legs had grown weak after a serious illness, and she had not stood on her own for years. She lived in a big city house with her father and a strict governess (家庭女教师). Day after day, she sat in her wheelchair by the window, watching the streets. She had no friends, and often felt lonely and bored.
②One day Heidi came to live with Clara’s family, everything changed. The lively mountain girl would sit by Clara’s wheelchair for hours, telling stories of blue skies, green meadow (草地) and cute sheep. She described how the sun felt warm even in cool mountain air. Clara’s eyes lit up as she listened, forgetting her pain and loneliness for the first time in years. She began asking questions about the mountains and dreamed of going there herself, imagining walking through meadows with grass under her feet.
③The governess did not like Heidi’s stories. She thought they were silly and would make Clara uneasy, worrying Clara would want things she couldn’t have. “The mountains are dangerous,” she said. “Clara is too weak to go there. She must stay here, where she is safe and quiet.” But Clara disagreed with her because thinking about the mountains made her feel more energetic. She ate more, slept better, and she even tried to stand on her own, holding the table, legs shaking but eyes bright with hope.
④One morning, Clara’s father sat with the two girls and announced Heidi would return to the mountains for a visit to see her grandfather. ▲ “What will I do without you?” she asked, voice trembling (颤抖). “You are the only one who makes me feel alive.” Heidi took her hand gently. “You will come to the mountains one day,” she said. “The mountains are waiting for you. I know they will help you. You are stronger than you think.”
⑤That night, Clara sat by her window and looked up at the stars, which seemed brighter than ever. She thought about the meadows, the goats, and the fresh mountain air. She closed her eyes and made a wish: she would get better, no matter what the governess said, and one day she would walk in the mountains herself.

①OpenClaw, an AI tool made by a young inventor from Austria and later bought by America’s OpenAI, has started a global fashion and had a great influence on China’s AI industry. It has changed how people see AI assistants, turning them from simple chatbots into active helpers that can do real work.
②Unlike common tools that need users’ instructions, OpenClaw can work on its own on users’ computers. It can manage emails, control web windows and fit different online chat apps, which lets it finish work processes by itself. Its special red lobster (龙虾) sign is warmly called “AI Lobster” by Chinese users.
③This test project started by foreign developers has quickly grown into a technology wave in China. It shows a special way for China’s AI development instead of just competing in size and computer power, and the industry pays more attention to making “small but useful” helpful tools. This means companies are focusing on creating AI that solves everyday problems for ordinary people, not just showing off technical skills.
④The Chinese market has reacted (反应) warmly, with technology companies trying hard to make and sell related products. The national supercomputing network (超算互联网) has said it will add OpenClaw’s services to popular office apps like ByteDance’s Lark and Tencent’s WeCom, using the advantages of its high-quality computer models.
⑤What’s more, Tencent made a simple all-purpose AI tool named WorkBuddy, which goes well with OpenClaw’s main functions (功能). You only need to spend one minute setting it up, and it can work well with popular apps such as QQ. Xiaomi is also testing its mobile AI tool, miclaw, with a few people. This tool, which uses Xiaomi’s own AI model, is closely connected with its phone systems and can provide many useful services, such as planning journeys, managing daily time and controlling smart home machines. All these actions show that big technology companies believe this new kind of AI is valuable, and they are trying their best to offer it to more users as soon as possible.
⑥Zhou Hongyi, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (全国政协), said that although OpenClaw has become popular and driven the development of other AI products in China, it also brings many safety problems. The government has noticed these hidden problems and given serious warnings to the whole AI industry. Many unknown dangers may appear when this technology is widely used, which will influence its future development and remind the AI industry to pay more attention to safety.
56. Which of the following shows the use of “AI Lobster” technology?
A. Chatting with users like common chatbots do.
B. Needing clear orders to finish computer work.
C. Using AI to manage emails and web windows.
D. Creating new online chat apps for Internet users.
57. What is the main idea of Paragraph 3?
A. “Small but useful” tools are the best choice for ordinary people.
B. China’s AI focus is changing from computer power to useful tools.
C. Chinese companies are trying to make their computer power stronger.
D. Foreign developers have successfully taken the lead in China’s AI market.
58. According to Paragraph 5, how do top Chinese technology companies deal with the rise of OpenClaw?
①By using OpenClaw’s model to make mobile AI tools for users.
②By developing AI tools connected with their own products closely.
③By putting out AI tools that work with OpenClaw’s functions well.
④By adding OpenClaw’s services to national supercomputing network.
A. ①② B. ②③ C. ②④ D. ③④
59. Which of the following best shows the structure of this passage?
A. B.
C. D.

Molly (USA, 16)
I’ve been learning Chinese for years, and finally I could be there with my family! When entering a tea house in Hangzhou, I was greatly amazed by the tea art show. The slow, wonderful performance of the tea master brought me closer to the beauty of Chinese culture. Before leaving, I bought a tea cup with my first try of phone payment. How convenient it was! Later, I lost my way back to the hotel. Luckily, a little girl noticed my embarrassing situation and pointed me in the right direction. Along the way, she treated me to some local desserts and recommended places worth visiting. What an unforgettable day I spent here!
Lee (South Korea, 16)
I couldn’t wait to experience China’s modern life before setting off! In Chengdu, I hung out at a night market where I bought spicy beef noodles and some fresh fruit for dinner. The market was filled with lovely things and I also couldn’t help buying a handmade toy. Another evening, I tried to order a taxi to Sichuan Opera Center but failed to understand the app. A college volunteer from Sichuan University helped me book the ride. Soon, the driver arrived and picked me up right where I stood — No waiting long in the cold street! By the way, the face-changing performances were so amazing and I learned it’s a treasure of local culture with a long history.
Olivia (UK, 15)
Experiencing different cultures is my top interest, so my journey to Xi’an ended up like a dream come true. After visiting the Terracotta Army (兵马俑), I wanted to buy a “soldier” model as a souvenir (纪念品). A staff there helped me order one on Taobao and said it would be sent straight to my home in just a week! Have you ever stayed in an unhealthy relationship for the emotion you’ve put in or taken a useless course just for the money paid? Lisa had a similar experience: She bought an expensive concert ticket but fell ill on that day. Instead of giving up, she still went because the staff wouldn’t return her money, feeling terrible and enjoying nothing. Actually, the problem Lisa faced often happens in our life. This is sunk cost trap (沉没成本陷阱) —— people keep doing meaningless things to avoid wasting what they have spent.
This trap greatly affects people’s lives. For one thing, those who are stuck in it may keep doing useless things, which causes more unhappiness. For another, people who remain in unpleasant jobs for a long time dare not try new chances and won’t get self-improvement.
Why is it easy to give up a small, one-time loss, but hard to walk away from something we’ve poured so much into? The answer lies in our minds. Our minds don’t treat all costs the same. Think of your mind like a scale (天平). It naturally “puts a heavy weight on” the time, money or effort we’ve already spent, making us focus too much on past cost and pay no attention to future gains.
However, we can get out of it. Above all, when you realize something is meaningless or harmful, give it up at once instead of continuing it. Moreover, a calm mind matters a lot — Do not be troubled by what you have already paid. After all, focusing on what you have lost makes no sense. Most importantly, never blame yourself for what you can’t change. Instead, you should take pride in your progress in letting go.
In short, freeing ourselves from sunk cost never means failure. Instead, it is a smart choice which can protect us from more unnecessary waste and help us move toward more valuable things, leading to a better life.
We often make a common mistake in our life. When people stick to useless things to save their past efforts, they 74. _____________. It greatly harms people’s lives.
