How to bank a seed!
Scientists are working to save world’s plants from dying out. Storing a seed correctly can make its life longer by hundreds of years. Just like a regular bank, a seed bank is a safe place to save for the future. But this special vault contains seeds, not money!
Find out how the scientists do it...1. Collection
Successful seed banking starts with collecting! Along with the seeds, scientists must gather essential information about the plants’ location and time of year they were gathered.2. Drying out
The drying room is a lot less humid (湿热的) than a regular room. Depending on a seed’s size, it’ll stay there for between two weeks and six months, slowly drying out.3. Clean up & X-rays
They are either cleaned by hand or with a machine that removes dirt and damaged seeds. Then, an X-ray machine examines a sample of the seeds to check what percentage of them are damaged, empty or have bugs inside!4. Into the vault
It’s now time for most of the seeds to go into the vault! They’re stored in air-tight containers at -20℃ in underground rooms. If all goes to plan, they should survive for hundreds of years.5. Testing time
After a few months, a sample will be tested to see if they’ve survived. Scientists take a careful note of the best ways to germinate (发芽) each seed so that they can be grown successfully by scientists of the future.6. The nursery
Once the sample seeds have germinated and flowered, it will be used to confirm whether the seed was labelled correctly in step one. If it is right, the seeds can be used for important scientific projects.

My husband and I were in Nepal to see the sunrise over the Himalayas. One morning, we awoke to total darkness at 5 o’clock. As we rushed through a town with cameras in hand, I was attracted by the calm way the local people greeted the day. A man was boiling a large pot of milk tea, and villagers had gathered around his fire to enjoy the warm drink. But afraid of being left behind, we joined the tourists moving quickly up to the lookout point.
The top was crowded when we arrived, but after 10 minutes of cold waiting, most of the tourists had given up. “The cloud cover is too heavy,” one said. Then one by one they rushed down the hill to the next stop on their sightseeing list. I was disappointed as well, but suddenly I noticed a small Nepalese boy. He seemed perfectly calm, playing with a stick and sometimes looking at the sky. I thought he must know something we didn’t, so I decided to wait with him.
The boy and I didn’t have to wait long. Soon, a golden light broke through the clouds. The sky turned rose-colored, and the morning sun appeared — miles higher than I’d expected. Nothing could have prepared me for that sight. As the clouds slowly cleared, the great Himalayas stood before me. I sat there in complete surprise. It felt as if nature had shown me its true beauty only because I had learned to wait.
What happened that morning taught me a truth: nature offers its wonders not to those who are in a hurry, but to those who are patient and truly ready to receive them.

Luo Xikun started as a kitchen helper, and later became a food deliveryman (送货员). After changing different jobs since the age of 18, Luo has finally got his dream job—flying drones (无人机) in Shenzhen. For him, this is not just a job but the start of a new life.
Interested in how machines work since he was a child, Luo had always wanted to find a job about machine operation. He often watched people work with machines and wished he could do something like that. When Meituan started to look for drone pilots from its delivery people, he decided to have a try to achieve his dream. He knew it would be hard, but he was ready to take the challenge.
He joined the training program. The training was not easy, but he worked hard every day. After the training, he passed the special test on drone flying and got the qualification certificate (资格证书). Now, with the help of drones, people can get what they need much faster.
To Luo, this task is difficult but exciting. Drone route planning and testing used to be done mostly in cities where the takeoff and landing places have almost the same height. Do you ever feel like you are just running from one activity to another? Do you rush from one subject to another at school? When this happens, it’s easy to get lost in learning. That’s why it’s important to stop and reflect. Self-reflection (反省) means slowing down and calming yourself. By doing so, you give your brain a chance to process what it has already received.
There are different ways to practice self-reflection. Some people choose to keep a diary or take notes. Knowing when to reflect is also necessary. For example, school textbooks are divided into units. You know a unit is over when you have a test. These natural breaks are a good time to stop and do self-reflection.
Once you find a good time, you can follow 4 steps to do self-reflection. Find a quiet place. You can do this even at your desk if you finish early. Take out your reflection diary or a piece of paper to write down what you’ve learned. Then, think about these notes and connect them with what you already know. Finally, make a list of any remaining questions. For example, if you’ve learned a new math way but aren’t sure how to use it, writing this question down will help you find the answer later.
Self-reflection is important for a successful student. If you have never taken this time to do self-reflection, try it now.

look for寻找、part with舍弃、hear from收到来信,都不适合。
promise to do sth.

How to keep safe at school
Safety is important to everyone. How can we keep safe at school? Here are some suggestions.
First, we should get on well with our classmates at school. Don’t fight with them. If we really have trouble in communicating with them, we can ask our teachers for help. Second, we shouldn’t swim alone or swim in the dangerous places. Third, we should surf the Internet safely. We shouldn’t meet net-friends alone. Fourth, there are more and more cars nowadays, we must follow the traffic rules.
In my opinion, safety comes first. If everyone can pay more attention to safety, we are sure to have a safe school life.
