passage A
① “All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.” This old saying tells us the importance of balancing study and relaxation. For students like us, “work hard” means paying attention in class and finishing homework carefully. “Play hard” doesn’t mean playing without control. It means taking part in meaningful and relaxing activities after hard work.
②Firstly, working hard helps us get knowledge and develop good habits. When we focus on learning, we can understand difficult problems better. This process also teaches us how to manage our time and get over challenges. However, studying for too long without a break can make us feel tired and less efficient at learning.
③ Then, how can we “play hard” correctly? Playing sports is a great way. It not only makes us stronger but also helps our brains relax and get ready for the next round of study. Besides, hobbies like drawing or music can reduce stress and bring joy. Even hanging out with friends for a while can make us feel happy and clear.
④ So, how to balance them? A good way is to make a simple plan. For example, after 45 minutes of study, you can take a 10-minute break to relax your body or listen to a song. Remember, “play hard” is the best reward for “work hard”. By balancing both, we can live a healthier, happier and more successful school life.

8、 阅读与表达
You can get some interesting things and useful information from a television show or an Internet site. Some computer games also help you learn. You might use a computer and the Internet to help you with homework.
Some kids spend almost all their free time watching television or using a computer. Here are two reasons why this is not good:
Not Getting Enough Exercise
When you sit in front of a television or computer, you do not move very much. This means your body is not getting exercise. People need exercise every day to stay healthy. Exercise helps the blood flow (流动) around inside the body. This is very important. Getting exercise can help you sleep well at night. It is easy for you to learn well at school if you have a good sleep.
Not Spending Enough Time with Friends
Spending time with friends is an important part of growing up. It helps you learn how to get along with other people. If you are sad or worried about something, talking with a friend can help you feel better. Playing and laughing with friends are fun ways to spend time.
It is fine to watch television and play computer games just for fun. Make sure you do not spend too much time on the computer or watching television. Go outside, enjoy the fresh air, and do something active with friends. Then you will have a healthy and happy life!

“Screen time” refers to time spent in front of a screen, such as watching TV, working on a computer, or playing on mobile phones.
Most American children spend about 3 hours a day watching TV. Added together, all types of total screen time can be 5 to 7 hours a day.
Computer, TV or mobile phones can help children with their education. But spending too much time on them is not good. For example, too much screen time can increase children’s rick of putting on too much weight.
Dr. Holland from America says screen time takes something important away from a child, including exercise, sleep and developmental activities. “Screen time is time that is not spent being physically active, and that children are missing out on learning valuable skills and developing their brains,” explains Dr. Holland.
So the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) suggests the following screen time guidelines to children:
Children under 2: Avoid all screen time.
Children aged 2-5: Have no more than one hour of screen time each day.
Children aged 6 and older: Set personal screen time limit(限制) to make sure their study, sleep and exercise won’t be influenced.
In 2019, the World Health Organization (WHO) set its own guidelines that are similar to AAP’s.
Cutting screen time down to 2 hours a day can be hard for children. But parents can set good examples first. They should spend less than 2 hours a day on screens. And parents should not watch TV during meals. Parents can play board games with their children or try other activities. In this way, they will live a more colorful and healthier life.
1.How long do most American children watch TV a day?

I’ve read your email carefully. I’m sorry to learn about your problems. Here is my advice. First, it’s important to cut down the time you spend on the mobile phone. I think an hour a day is enough. Second, you’d better spend more time with your family and friends and communicate with them more. Third, you should take up some other hobbies to make your life more colorful. For example, you can read books or do some sports every day. Finally, don’t use the mobile phone before going to bed. It may cause a bad night’s sleep and make you sleepy the next day.

Yours,
Li Hua
