He invited Li Wei to the palace to write a special scroll for the royal library. Li Wei was both honored and nervous. When Li Wei arrived at the palace, he was amazed by its beauty. However, he was also shown the work of other famous calligraphers. Their styles were so different and impressive that Li Wei began to doubt his own ability. The night before the competition, Li Wei couldn’t sleep. He walked in the garden and saw an old carpenter (木匠) working under a dim lamp. The carpenter was carving a tiny piece of wood with great care. “Why are you so careful with such a small piece?” asked Li Wei. “Because every piece matters,” replied the carpenter. “No matter how small the work is, if we don’t do it with heart, it will never be perfect.” Li Wei suddenly understood. He returned to his room and practiced writing with all his heart. The next day, he wrote a scroll that showed not only technical skill but also true emotion. Every year, millions of plastic bags are used around the world. Most of them are used just once and then thrown away. They can take hundreds of years to break down, causing serious damage to the environment.
Scientists have recently developed a new type of bag made from seaweed (海藻). Unlike plastic bags, these seaweed bags can break down in just a few weeks. They are also safe for animals to eat, so if they end up in the ocean, they will not harm sea creatures.
The seaweed bags look and feel very similar to plastic bags, but they are much better for the environment. They can hold heavy items just as well as normal plastic bags. The material feels a bit like rubber when dry, but becomes softer in water.
The company that makes these bags hopes that more shops and supermarkets will start using them. However, there is still one challenge — the cost. Right now, seaweed bags cost about three times more than normal plastic bags. The company is working to bring the price down.
While seaweed bags are not yet available everywhere, they give us hope that we can find better ways to protect our planet without giving up the things we need in daily life.

A. Hopeful. B. Doubtful. C. Opposed. D. Uninterested.

The 2026 CCTV Spring Festival Gala was broadcast around the world on Chinese New Year’s Eve. One wonderful cultural show was called Ode to the Flower Gods (贺花神). It got its idea from the White Jade Twelve-Month Pendants (白玉十二生肖挂件) in the Palace Museum. The show beautifully mixes twelve months, twelve flowers, and twelve famous historical figures into one poetic program. It shows the beauty of traditional Chinese culture and tells us how flowers can stand for great qualities and valuable ideas.
The show is special because each flower is matched with a person who has a similar spirit. Among them are seven great writers, such as Lin Bu, Lu You, Zhou Dunyi, Xu Wei, Tao Yuanming, Li Qingzhao and Bai Juyi. Their good qualities are just like the meanings of plum blossoms (梅花), apricot blossoms (杏花), lotuses (荷花), hollyhocks (蜀葵), chrysanthemums (菊花), sweet osmanthus (桂花) and camellias (山茶花). The show also includes four famous women: Xi Furen, Yang Yuhuan, Wang Zhaojun and LuoShen. They are connected with peach blossoms, peonies, cotton roses and daffodils. Zhang Qian, who brought pomegranates (石榴) to China, shows the brave spirit of the pomegranate flower. In this way, the show changes the old idea that only women can be flower gods. It fully shows the traditional Chinese idea of “finding virtues in flowers”.
With the help of advanced AIGC technology, the show brings real performers and digital pictures together perfectly. On the stage, the twelve jade pendants finally form a full circle, which stands for the cycle of time and the beauty of harmony. Ode to the Flower Gods is more than a great artistic show; it helps people feel closer to their own culture through lively symbols. It keeps traditional culture alive in the digital age and shows the spirit of Chinese civilization with soft but strong cultural confidence.
36. What is the passage mainly about?
A. The history of flowers in Chinese culture.
B. A special cultural show at the 2026 Spring Festival Gala.
C. Famous historical figures in Chinese history.
D. The development of AIGC technology.
37. Where did the show Ode to the Flower Gods get its inspiration from?
A. Ancient Chinese poems about flowers.
B. Stories of great female writers.
C. The White Jade Twelve-Month Pendants in the Palace Museum.
D. Traditional Chinese paintings of flowers.
38. What plays a key role in the performance according to paragraph 3?
A. Traditional stage settings B. Ancient jade collections
C. Live audiences’ participation D. Advanced AIGC technology
39. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. All the flower gods in the show are female.
B. The show uses AIGC technology to mix real acting and digital scenes.
C. The twelve jade pendants stand for different seasons of a year.
D. Zhang Qian is mentioned because he wrote many poems about flowers.
40. What is the writer’s purpose in writing the passage?
A. To teach people how to grow flowers.
B. To introduce a way of creating digital pictures.
