As we come to the close of our schools annual drama festival, i'd like to say a few words. First, I want to express my sincere thanks to all the actors for their wonderful performances, but I must also say sorry to a special group of people, the stage crew and lighting technicians who have worked behind the scenes for weeks. I forgot to introduce them at the beginning, and that was my mistake. They truly made the show possible. Now you may have noticed a small league from the ceiling during the second act. Don't worry, it's an old theater and the roof was repaired three years ago. It's still holding up well, but we are planning a full replace next summer. So please enjoy the final act and remember to take all your belongings when you leave. Thank you. Good evening. 第二节
One rainy afternoon, I could not find Stevie anywhere in the yard or the house. Panic began to creep in as I called her name, checking every corner of the shelter, the dog beds, and even the bookshelf where she’d once hidden her eggs. The rain was pouring harder, and my heart sank at the thought of her being out in the cold, wet weather alone. I called the dogs over, hoping they might lead me to her, and to my surprise, they bounded toward the old, overgrown shed at the edge of the property. Rushing after them, I pushed open the creaky door, and there she was—curled up on a pile of old blankets, tucked safely beside my oldest dog, Max. She was shivering slightly, but calm, and Max had his head resting gently beside her as if he’d been keeping her warm the whole time. I knelt down, scooped her up carefully, and pressed her soft feathers to my chest, whispering how glad I was to have found her.
From then on, Stevie became even more beloved by the whole family and the six dogs. She no longer just copied the dogs’ moves—she became their little protector, alerting them when strangers approached the yard, and they, in turn, would circle around her whenever we went for walks, making sure she never wandered too far. Even when she still snuck eggs in the strangest places, we’d laugh instead of sigh, leaving little baskets out for her to choose from. Stevie didn’t just prove that chickens could be social and smart; she showed us that love and belonging don’t care about species, and that the most unexpected friendships can become the sweetest parts of a home.
1. 答案:C
解析:对话中男士提到“They planned to drive, but there’s a heavy snow warning, so they booked flights instead.”
女士建议“why not try cleaning up some old files yourself?” 男士回答“I’ll give that a shot first.”
3. 答案:C
解析:女士明确回答“I’m in the Business School. My focus is on Marketing.”
男士建议“You could send them an email instead.”
5. 答案:A
解析:男士提到“I’ve been going over my notes for hours, but I’m still worried about the Q&A session afterward.”
6. 答案:B
解析:Tom在电话开头说“I have a reservation for a twin room... but I need to change it to a king room.”
7. 答案:C
解析:在对话结尾,Tom问“One more thing - do you offer a free airport shuttle?”
8. 答案:A
9. 答案:B
解析:关于Plan B,Clara描述道“Plan B, however, has unlimited local calls and 5GB of mobile traffic, plus long-distance call service.”
Clara说Plan C原价$20,但本月促销,第一年每月只需$12 (“you can get it for just $12 a month for the first year”)。
11. 答案:C
解析:对话开头,男士说“I see you’ve applied for the project manager position...”
12. 答案:B
解析:女士在描述越南的桥梁项目时说“The contract stated December as the deadline...”
13. 答案:A
解析:女士在对话中提到“Yes, I lived with my mother in Kenya for two years.” 肯尼亚位于非洲,因此A选项“She once lived with her mother in Africa.”
14. 答案:C
解析:Lisa提到她的兴趣始于七岁时,看着祖母画画:“My grandmother loved painting flowers, and I would sit beside her for hours, watching her mix colors. That really sparked my interest.”
15. 答案:A
解析:当被问到是否从祖母那里学画时,Lisa回答“I mostly learned by copying famous paintings from art books. That taught me different techniques and styles.”
16. 答案:A
解析:Lisa谈到高中美术课时说“But I found them too strict. The teacher kept telling us to follow rules...”
17. 答案:B
解析:当被问到为何不画肖像时,Lisa说“I’ve tried, but portraits always feel too restricting. They often look stiff and lack the emotion I want to express.” (She thinks they lack emotion)
18. 答案:A
解析:演讲者开场说“As we come to the close of our school’s annual drama festival...”
19. 答案:B
解析:演讲者道歉说“But I must also say sorry to a special group of people ... I forgot to introduce them at the beginning...”
20. 答案:B
解析:谈到屋顶漏水时,演讲者说“we are planning a full replacement next summer.”
A篇
根据文章第二部分“Stronganoff Beef Goulash”下第一句“Russia’s cold weather means people there eat foods that are high in protein and calories.” B (Because the country has a cold climate)。
关于Tvorog,根据第三部分描述“Tvorog is a dairy product made by gently heating sour milk until it forms soft lumps, and then straining out the liquid.” A选项说它是加了盐的熟成奶酪,错误,原文说“not aged, and has no salt added”。B选项说在美国超市很常见,错误,原文说“I hadn’t heard of it before going to Russia, as it’s not common in the U.S.”。D选项说英语中有完美对应的名称,错误,原文第一句就说“There isn’t a perfect English word for this”。
C选项正确,从作者使用“I hadn’t heard of it before going to Russia” 以及“One dish I really liked...”
第一段最后一句明确指出“A wheelchair is now my main way to explore the world.” 因此答案是B (Using a wheelchair)。
25. 答案:A
根据后文“even with a chronic illness, I found adventure in my own backyard...”
第二段描述了作者出院后乘坐轮椅在纽约遇到的种种障碍:“steps, doors, rough sidewalks, and the gap at the train station. Whole neighborhoods are now hard to go through.”
作者通过描述在曼哈顿的旅行经历,最终意识到“being a tourist in my own hometown meant learning to ask for help—and that was okay.” C选项“A burden shared is a burden halved.”
第一段最后一句总结道“Two large analyses...suggest it works about as well as therapy or antidepressants.”
第二段末尾明确指出两项分析的结论“Both concluded that exercise reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety by roughly as much as conventional treatments.”
C选项“How Can a Dose of Sweat Help Our Mind?”
第三段直接引用他的话“In agroforestry, the management of banana crops demands less work, and we save time...” B (It reduces the amount of labor required for farming)。
34. 答案:A
根据最后一段Luz Stella的话“If you ask me what’s most harmful to the forest, I’d say it’s the real estate speculation surrounding the park, draining its water resources.”
37. 答案:A
前一句“Being healthy requires you to take care of your physical, mental and emotional health.”

A
Russia is famous for its delicious food. Its unique food culture has won over food lovers from all over the world. Russian dishes are known for their rich taste, careful cooking, and many different flavors. Let’s take a look!
Borscht Soup
Borscht originally came from Ukraine and is the most famous traditional soup in Russia. It’s made mainly with beetroots, which give it a bright red color, so it’s also called red vegetable soup. People also add potatoes, carrots, spinach, beef, and cream. In some places, tomatoes are used instead. On a cold winter day, a spoonful of hot borscht is really satisfying!
Stronganoff Beef Goulash
Russia’s cold weather means people there eat foods that are high in protein and calories. Beef Stroganoff is a very common home-cooked dish in Russia. It was invented in the 18th century by a chef working for a nobleman named Count Stroganov. He used French-style stewing methods and mixed them with Russia’s own sour cream sauce to create this special beef dish. You could say that beef stewed with sour cream is more flavorful and tender.
Tvorog
There isn’t a perfect English word for this, but it’s often called “farmer’s cheese” or quark. I hadn’t heard of it before going to Russia, as it’s not common in the U.S. Tvorog is a dairy product made by gently heating sour milk until it forms soft lumps, and then straining out the liquid. It’s soft, white, not aged, and has no salt added. This is what it looks like when you buy it fresh from the market. They cut a piece for you and put it in a container to take home.
Mushrooms
There are thousands of kinds of mushrooms and ways to cook them in Russia. One dish I really liked is called Julienne. In this style, mushrooms are chopped very finely and cooked with sour cream, salt, and garlic. It has a soft, smooth texture and tastes great!
21. Why are many Russian dishes high in protein and calories?
A. Because they have a rich taste.
B. Because the country has a cold climate.
C. Because they are usually made at home.
D. Because they are traditional cooking styles.
22. According to the text, which of the following is TRUE about Tvorog?
A. It is a type of aged cheese with salt added.
B. It is very common in American supermarkets.
C. It is made by straining heated sour milk.
D. It has a perfect corresponding name in English.
23. What can we infer from the text?
A. Beef Stroganoff was created by a French chef.
B. All Russian mushroom dishes have a slimy consistency.
C. The author experienced Russian food firsthand.
D. Borscht is not considered a traditional soup in Russia.
B
I once measured good travel by how far I could get from home. Now, travel for me means going beyond my house. In December 2023, I had a long hospital stay with medical errors. I returned home in June 2024 as a bilateral below‑the‑knee amputee, with only my left thumb left. A wheelchair is now my main way to explore the world.
After leaving the hospital, I felt like a tourist in my own body and in New York, my home for nearly 20 years. Before this, even with a chronic illness, I found adventure in my backyard—practicing Arabic at a grocery, picnicking in the park, or biking by the river. Now, travel starts by turning on my electric wheelchair with my thumb. But many things stop me: steps, doors, rough sidewalks, and the gap at the train station. Whole neighborhoods are now hard to go through.
To face my fears, I made a three‑day trip to Manhattan. My husband Mark and I booked a hotel room in Midtown. I became a tourist.
On day one, we visited Little Island, a public park with smooth paths. No bikes were allowed, so I felt safe. After dumplings at Chelsea Market, we took a cab to the Sofitel. The sidewalks there were wide and easy to cross. Mark booked a room with both a shower and a bathtub. But “wheelchair accessible” rooms don’t always fit me. I bring my own foldable shower chair. The hotel gave us two A.D.A. rooms, but both had only bathtubs, not showers. The staff were nice but couldn’t know exactly what I needed.
Finally, we asked for a room with a walk‑in shower. The hotel manager found one on the fifth floor. It had a low bed, wide doorways, and a shower I could use with my slide board. That night, as I looked out at the bright city lights, I realized that being a tourist in my own hometown meant learning to ask for help—and that was okay.
24. What is the author’s main way to explore the world after returning home?
A. Walking with artificial legs. B. Using a wheelchair.
C. Riding a bike. D. Taking a cab.
25. What does the underlined word “chronic” in paragraph 2 most likely mean?
A. persistent B. acute
C. mild D. accidental
26. Why did the author feel like a tourist in New York after leaving the hospital?
A. She was very pleased with the hotel’s room.
B. She was limited by many physical obstacles.
C. She had never lived in New York City before.
D. She could not remember routes to her favorite spots.
27. What does the author’s experience in Manhattan mainly show?
A. Every cloud has a silver lining.
B. It’s always better late than never.
C. A burden shared is a burden halved.
D. A person’s actions speak louder than words.
C
For those in the doldrums, few things are more tiresome than being told to exercise. But unwelcome advice is not necessarily wrong. Study after study has found that exercise boosts mood and reduces anxiety. Two large analyses published earlier this year go further, suggesting it works about as well as therapy or antidepressants.
The first, published in January by researchers based across Britain and Ireland, took the form of a Cochrane review. It pooled the results of 69 randomised controlled trials (RCTs) conducted to measure the effects of exercise on depression. The second paper was a so-called meta-meta-analysis. It drew on more than 1,000 trials involving nearly 80,000 participants. Both concluded that exercise reduces symptoms of depression and anxiety by roughly as much as conventional treatments.
There are important warnings. Meta-analyses are only as good as the studies they include, and exercise trials are likely to be unfair. For one thing, participants cannot be blinded—they know if they are doing kettlebell swings or not—which makes their self-reported mood vulnerable to any favourable expectations they might have. For this and other reasons, the Cochrane review judged all the studies it included to be at “high risk” of bias.
What’s more, the meta-meta-analysis did not include any studies that tested exercise against other interventions. The findings from the exercise trials were, instead, compared against those from separate trials of antidepressants or therapy. But unlike exercise studies, RCTs of antidepressants are typically well blinded and have strong placebo effects, making it harder for them to achieve similarly impressive results. “I don’t think it’s a fair comparison,” says Jonathan Roiser.
All the same, most researchers are confident that exercise helps improve mood. For depression, group-based or supervised exercise is more effective than sweating alone, and the benefits of exercise accrue over several months. For anxiety, the best results seem to come from lower-intensity activity.
There are purely psychological benefits, too: exercise can provide people with a sense of achievement, agency and eventually mastery, all of which are known to lift mood. Plenty of reasons, then, to work up a sweat.
28. What does the author point out in paragraph 1?
A. Depression is harder to treat than anxiety.
B. Exercise works about as well as antidepressants.
C. Exercise is less effective than therapy for anxiety.
D. People with low moods find exercise advice annoying.
29. What did the two large analyses conclude?
A. Exercise’s mood benefits last a few weeks at most.
B. Group or supervised exercise is better than individual.
C. Exercise cuts depression and anxiety like standard care.
D. Antidepressants beat exercise in effectiveness within RCTs.
30. What can be inferred about the comparison between exercise and antidepressants?
A. Exercise trials lack blinding design.
B. Researchers share views on this comparison.
C. Antidepressant trials show impressive results.
D. Different blinding leads to unfair comparison.
31. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Why Must We Exercise Regularly?
B. What Are the Hidden Dangers of Workouts?
C. How Can a Dose of Sweat Help Our Mind?
D. When Do We Always Ignore Unwelcome Advice?
D
Every Sunday, Jorge Cardia and his neighbours load bananas onto their mules and, on the back of their mules, go down the hillside with the newly harvested crop. They travel about 5km along paths first opened by the Indigenous Tupinamba people and enslaved workers of African descent.
Through a crop culture passed down over many generations, gradually evolving into a model agroforestry system, banana growers help restore and preserve the park’s biodiversity. Part of Unesco’s Atlantic Forest Biosphere Reserve, it is made up of 17 Rio neighbourhoods and is considered the world’s largest urban forest.
“In agroforestry, the management of banana crops demands less work, and we save time as we only need to prune the banana plant. Then, nature, with its own rhythm, does all the rest,” said Jorge Cardia.
While the banana growers are true caretakers of the urban forest, they have not always been treated as allies of nature’s conservation. Annelise Fernandez says the tension between the public authority and the farmers in the park stems from a reluctance to recognise the role of traditional communities in preserving ecosystems.
“Parks are generally created in a very unilateral way, causing forced eviction and deterritorialising the communities. A more effective solution is to reconcile land rights and environmental conservation,” Fernandez said. “Often, these areas are preserved enough to become parks precisely because of communities that have long been living harmoniously with the ecosystem.”
Nunes highlights the role of traditional banana growers to preserve the Pedra Branca state park: “They have never destroyed the forest. Quite the contrary; as they manage it for their subsistence, they end up preserving it.”
Yet banana growers face challenges posed by real estate speculation around Pedra Branca. It borders increasingly urbanised areas, where new middle-class condos are pressuring the forest and its natural resources. “If you ask me what’s most harmful to the forest, I’d say it’s the real estate speculation surrounding the park, draining its water resources. The condos literally canalize the park’s rivers,” said Luz Stella.
32. How does the author present the role of banana growers in the first paragraph?
A. By quoting an expert. B. By defining a concept.
C. By giving an example. D. By providing statistics.
33. What is the primary benefit of banana cultivation mentioned by Jorge Cardia?
A. It conserves water resources within the ecosystem.
B. It reduces the amount of labor required for farming.
C. It allows banana growers to produce a higher-quality crop.
D. It improves the management of pests and diseases in crops.
34. What is the biggest threat to Pedra Branca park according to Luz Stella?
A. Real estate development wastes water resources.
B. Forced eviction of local traditional communities.
C. Over–pruning of banana plants in the agroforestry system.
D. The building of new roads connecting urban neighbourhoods.
35. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To introduce a new eco-friendly banana planting technology.
B. To explain how the world’s largest urban forest was formed.
C. To call for recognition of traditional farmers in forest protection.
D. To show the conflict between environmental protection and tourism.
Being healthy or leading a healthy lifestyle is more than just keeping yourself from falling sick. Besides keeping yourself free from diseases, good health or healthy living encompasses many other areas, which include physical health, mental health and health management. 36 You will see that with a few simple tips, you can learn to manage the different aspects of health, lead a more fulfilling and active lifestyle and keep diseases at bay.
Physical Activity
37 However, the problem is that people often neglect their own bodies. If you do not eat a proper diet or do not get enough sleep, you are depriving yourself of good physical health! Keeping yourself physically healthy with an active lifestyle and physical activity will allow you to feel better and more energetic every day.
Active Lifestyle
Another thing you should do to be healthy is to get active! An active lifestyle with regular physical activity and exercise can significantly improve your health by reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. 38

Stevie and her siblings were the first batch of chickens I ever owned. I fostered them from a nearby animal shelter in 2021. Stevie was the most vocal so I named her after one of my favourite musicians, Stevie Nicks.
I live on a huge plot of land in Malibu which I treat like an animal sanctuary – any animal that I can rescue and help, I will. I’ve been that way since I was a little kid. When my parents gave me a small allowance I would run to the pet store and bring a new animal home. Sometimes, I would find animals on the street and take them in.
Stevie, a Buff Orpington chicken, was different from the rest of her siblings. She had a confident, outgoing personality. As soon as she arrived, she ruled the yard. In particular, she took to the dogs – she wanted to be just like them. She would hang out and run around with them, and sometimes I would find her curled up in their bed inside our house. Stevie would copy their every movement: she would run up to me and let me pick her up like a dog, falling asleep on my lap.
I hadn’t expected this. I had always imagined chickens would frolic in the yard and barely pay attention to me. But Stevie was different. It made me realise how social and intelligent chickens can be.
Stevie’s most entertaining trick was laying her eggs anywhere she liked – on the bookshelf, in a dog kennel. Even though she had a coop outside, I would find her eggs hidden in random places around the house.
When Stevie first arrived, my six dogs were caught off guard. I think they were slightly put off by her. To begin with, I couldn’t leave them alone together, but as time went on, I began to trust that they wouldn’t hurt her. It took a week for Stevie to integrate and then the dogs just treated her like one of the packs.

One rainy afternoon, I could not find Stevie anywhere in the yard or the house.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
From then on, Stevie became even more beloved by the whole family and the six dogs.___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
