Passage 1 Every day, students move through school carrying not just textbooks but a collection of different identities. In one moment, a student may be a responsible class leader. 1 Each role demands a different tone, attitude, and level of confidence. Challenges emerge when these identities conflict. However, what many teenagers don’t realize is that the constant switch between these roles shapes much of their emotional experience at school. 2 For example, a student who enjoys helping others may feel comfortable acting as a group organizer during projects, yet the same student may feel uncertain when stepping into a role that requires public speaking or taking the lead in a debate. This contrast can be confusing, making students wonder which version of themselves is real. But teenagers should bear in mind that identity is not a fixed label. 3 The ability to shift roles is a skill that grows stronger with practice. Each role presents a different piece of who they are becoming. Learning to navigate the challenging transitions begins with self-awareness. Students who take time to reflect — asking themselves why a particular role feels easy or difficult — often develop greater emotional resilience (韧性). 4 They recognize when to step forward, when to step back, and when to simply observe. Eventually, students come to understand that they are not defined by a single identity. Instead, they are shaped by all the roles they play. Mastering the art of switching roles is not about performing for others. 5 A.Later, she becomes a supportive friend. B.Indeed, it is more like a flexible framework. C.They gain clearer insight into their classmates. D.Some roles come naturally, while others require effort. E.Shifting roles isn’t necessarily challenging for everyone. F.Over time, they learn to adjust without losing themselves. G.Instead, it is about discovering a complete version of oneself. 1.根据上文“Every day, students move through school carrying not just textbooks but a collection of different identities. In one moment, a student may be a responsible class leader.(每天,学生们在学校里穿梭,他们携带的不仅仅是课本,还有一系列不同的身份。在某一时刻,学生可能是负责任的班长。)”可知,此处介绍学生不同的身份,A选项“后来,她成为了一个支持朋友的人。”承接上文,符合语境。且上文“In one moment”与A选项中“Later”形成时间上的承接关系,故选A项。 2.根据下文“For example, a student who enjoys helping others may feel comfortable acting as a group organizer during projects, yet the same student may feel uncertain when stepping into a role that requires public speaking or taking the lead in a debate.(例如,一个喜欢帮助别人的学生可能会在项目期间很自然地担任团队组织者,然而,当同一个学生进入一个需要公开演讲或在辩论中起带头作用的角色时,他可能会感到不确定。)” 3.根据上文“But teenagers should bear in mind that identity is not a fixed label.(但是青少年应该记住,身份不是一个固定的标签。)” 4.根据上文“Learning to navigate the challenging transitions begins with self-awareness. Students who take time to reflect — asking themselves why a particular role feels easy or difficult — often develop greater emotional resilience (韧性).(学会应对这些具有挑战性的转变始于自我意识。花时间反思的学生——问自己为什么某个角色感觉容易或困难——通常会培养出更强的情感韧性。)”可知,此处介绍学生学会应对挑战性的转变,花时间反思,会培养出更强的情感韧性,F选项“随着时间的推移,他们学会了在不迷失自我的情况下进行调整。”承接上文,说明学生学会应对挑战性的转变的结果,符合语境。故选F项。 5.根据上文“Eventually, students come to understand that they are not defined by a single identity. Instead, they are shaped by all the roles they play. Mastering the art of switching roles is not about performing for others.(最终,学生们会明白,他们不是由单一的身份定义的。相反,他们是由他们扮演的所有角色塑造的。掌握角色转换的艺术不是为了表演给别人看。)”可知,此处介绍学生明白他们不是由单一的身份定义的,掌握角色转换的艺术不是为了表演给别人看,G选项“相反,它是关于发现一个完整的自己。”承接上文,说明掌握角色转换的艺术的意义,符合语境。故选G项。 Passage 2 Bathrooms are naturally damp and steamy. Even with regular cleaning, moisture stays around. Among work, family, and a social life, cleaning every wall hard daily is almost impossible. 1 Recently, a friend noticed yellow stuff falling down her bathroom walls. Naturally, I panicked and wanted answers fast. 2 Its tiny particles float through the air and settle in damp spots. Once there, mold spreads rapidly. 3 Certain types can cause allergic reactions, breathing issues, and long-lasting health problems if left unchecked. Bathrooms, with their constant moisture, are prime breeding grounds. Mold grows well in warm, damp conditions. After a shower, steam turns to water on walls and ceilings. Even with good airflow, moisture doesn’t go away. Mold often starts in corners or near pipe parts, then spreads quickly if ignored. The key to prevention is controlling moisture. Let fresh air into your bathroom by opening a window or running an exhaust fan during and after showers. Dry surfaces regularly, especially those likely to get water drops. If mold already appears, act fast. 4 For hard-to-remove mold or chemical sensitivities, vinegar and a hydrogen-based cleaning liquid are safer choices. Always wear gloves and a mask to protect your skin and lungs. Keeping your bathroom clean and dry is the best defense. Let fresh air in regularly, clean frequently, and consider a machine that reduces dampness in damp areas. 5 By taking these simple steps, you can keep moisture and mold well under control. Always keep in mind that maintaining a clean environment ensures a healthy home for everyone. A.Mold (霉菌) isn’t just ugly — it’s dangerous. B.Mold grows wherever moisture meets organic matter. C.Wipe surfaces sometimes, especially areas easy to get wet. D.And that’s exactly when mold takes the opportunity to grow. E.If the problem gets out of hand, calling professionals is wise. F.For surfaces that don’t absorb water, a bleach and water mix works well. G.Proper ventilation (通风) can prevent the basement from becoming too moist and moldy. 1.根据上文“Bathrooms are naturally damp and steamy. Even with regular cleaning, moisture stays around. Among work, family, and a social life, cleaning every wall hard daily is almost impossible.(浴室天生潮湿多水汽。即使定期打扫,湿气也会滞留。兼顾工作、家庭和社交生活,每天用力擦洗墙面几乎做不到)”可知,前文讲浴室潮湿、很难天天打扫,容易滋生霉菌,D选项“And that’s exactly when mold takes the opportunity to grow.(而这正是霉菌趁机滋生的时候)”承接上文潮湿难清洁的情况,自然引出霉菌话题,衔接顺畅。 2.根据后文“Its tiny particles float through the air and settle in damp spots. Once there, mold spreads rapidly.(它的微小颗粒漂浮在空气中,落在潮湿处,一旦落地,霉菌就会快速蔓延)”可知,后文介绍霉菌的生长方式,B选项“Mold grows wherever moisture meets organic matter.(霉菌在湿气与有机物接触的地方都会生长)”引出霉菌生长原理,和后文内容呼应。 3.根据后文“Certain types can cause allergic reactions, breathing issues, and long-lasting health problems if left unchecked.(某些种类的霉菌如果不处理,会引发过敏、呼吸问题以及长期健康隐患)”可知,本段在讲霉菌的危害,A选项“Mold (霉菌) isn’t just ugly — it’s dangerous.(霉菌不仅难看,还很危险)”总起本段,引出下文健康危害。 4.根据后文“For hard-to-remove mold or chemical sensitivities, vinegar and a hydrogen-based cleaning liquid are safer choices.(难清理的霉菌或对化学试剂敏感时,醋和过氧化氢清洁剂是更安全的选择)”可知,此处介绍不同除霉清洁办法,F选项 “For surfaces that don’t absorb water, a bleach and water mix works well.(不吸水的墙面,漂白水混合液效果很好)”对应后文除霉方法,句式呼应,衔接自然。 5.根据前文“Keeping your bathroom clean and dry is the best defense. Let fresh air in regularly, clean frequently, and consider a machine that reduces dampness in damp areas.(保持浴室干爽洁净是最好的防护,勤通风、常清洁、用除湿设备)”可知,E选项 “If the problem gets out of hand, calling professionals is wise.(如果问题失控难以处理,联系专业人员是明智的选择)”补充了极端情况的处理方案,属于下文“these simple steps”中的一种,衔接上下文。 Passage 3 People often ask me what drew me to become a chef. It wasn’t just about my love for food. 1 It was also about the way food made me feel connected to others. I remember a family reunion when I was about eight years old. My relatives came from all over the world, some of whom I had never met. 2 People were speaking in different languages, and I felt out of place. But then dinner was served. The table was overflowing with dishes from different cultures: spicy curries, fragrant stews, and beautifully roasted meats. And just like that, the awkwardness melted away. We passed plates around, shared stories about our favorite dishes, and laughed together. It didn’t matter that we spoke different languages or had never met before. 3 A few years ago, I traveled abroad with a group of friends. We didn’t speak much local language, and we weren’t familiar with all the local customs. 4 We didn’t need to speak the same language to understand each other — the food did all the talking. That deepened my understanding that food is more than just nourishment. It’s a universal language. 5 Around the world, food has the power to transcend (超越) cultural and language differences. You don’t need to know the name of a dish or how it’s traditionally made to appreciate its flavors. The same goes for sharing food with others. No matter where you’re from, the act of eating together brings a sense of belonging. Fast forward to today, after years of cooking professionally, I’ve seen firsthand how food breaks down barriers, brings joy, and strengthens connection. A.At first, I was nervous. B.The food brought us together. C.That certainly played a part, though. D.Such experiences aren’t unique to me. E.Eating out lets you explore new flavors. F.It’s a fact that tastes differ from person to person. G.But everything clicked when we went into a restaurant. 1.上文提到“It wasn’t just about my love for food.(我成为厨师不只是因为热爱食物)”,下文补充“It was also about the way food made me feel connected to others.(这也关乎食物让我与他人产生联系的方式)”可知,本句承接上文的“对食物的热爱”,C选项“不过,这份热爱当然也占了一部分原因”符合语境。 2.根据上文“I remember a family reunion when I was about eight years old. My relatives came from all over the world, some of whom I had never met.(我记得有一次家庭聚会,那是在我八岁的时候。我的亲戚们从世界各地赶来,其中有些人我之前从未见过面)”以及后文“People were speaking in different languages, and I felt out of place. But then dinner was served. The table was overflowing with dishes from different cultures: spicy curries, fragrant stews, and beautifully roasted meats. And just like that, the awkwardness melted away. We passed plates around, shared stories about our favorite dishes, and laughed together. It didn’t matter that we spoke different languages or had never met before.(人们说着各种不同的语言,我感到格格不入。 3.根据上文“People were speaking in different languages, and I felt out of place. But then dinner was served. The table was overflowing with dishes from different cultures: spicy curries, fragrant stews, and beautifully roasted meats. And just like that, the awkwardness melted away. We passed plates around, shared stories about our favorite dishes, and laughed together. It didn’t matter that we spoke different languages or had never met before.(人们说着各种不同的语言,我感到格格不入。 4.根据上文“A few years ago, I traveled abroad with a group of friends. We didn’t speak much local language, and we weren’t familiar with all the local customs.(几年前,我和一群朋友一起出国旅行。我们不太会说当地语言,也不太了解当地的风俗习惯)”以及后文“We didn’t need to speak the same language to understand each other — the food did all the talking. That deepened my understanding that food is more than just nourishment. It’s a universal language.(我们无需用同一种语言交流就能相互理解——食物本身就起到了沟通的作用。这让我更加深刻地认识到,食物远不止是提供营养那么简单,它是一种跨越国界的通用语言)”可知,上文说出国旅行不会当地语言、不熟悉习俗,下文说“不需要相同语言就能沟通,食物替我们交流”。G选项“但我们走进餐厅后,一切都顺畅了”,转折衔接前文的不顺,引出下文食物的作用。 5.根据后文“Around the world, food has the power to transcend (超越) cultural and language differences. You don’t need to know the name of a dish or how it’s traditionally made to appreciate its flavors. The same goes for sharing food with others. No matter where you’re from, the act of eating together brings a sense of belonging.(在全球范围内,食物具有超越文化与语言差异的力量。你无需知晓某种菜肴的名称或其传统制作方法,就能领略其风味。与他人分享食物也是如此。无论你来自何方,一起用餐的行为都会让人产生归属感)”以及前文讲了两个作者个人经历,下文拓展到“全世界范围食物都能超越差异”的普遍规律,D选项“这样的经历并非我独有”,从个人经历过渡到普遍结论,承上启下。 Passage 4 For years, I kept a careful distance from the people around me. Living in a busy city apartment, I learned to move through shared spaces quietly. 1 It wasn’t that I disliked others; keeping to myself just seemed easier. Independence mattered to me, and needing no one felt like part of being a grown-up. 2 Without warning, the power went out. The building fell into complete darkness. I sat alone in my apartment, the cold air pressing in as my phone went dead. The silence was familiar. Yet this time, it seemed different. Less comforting. More exposed. A soft knock broke the stillness. It was my neighbour from 3B, someone I recognised but hardly knew. She held a candle and mentioned that a few residents were gathering in the hallway and invited me to join them. I hesitated. Staying alone felt safe, but something felt unsettled. 3 People sat on the floor, sharing blankets, tea, and quiet conversation. I listened more than I spoke. The man I had once assumed was unfriendly turned out to be a retired doctor with a dry sense of humour. 4 I realized how easily distance can turn into detachment (疏离). When the lights finally returned, the hallway looked the same, but it felt different. I didn’t suddenly become outgoing, nor did I abandon my need for space. 5 It’s about knowing when to let them in. Now, when I step into the elevator, I don’t automatically lower my eyes. Sometimes, I look up. A.After a moment, I stepped outside. B.I avoided eye contact and unnecessary conversation. C.I began to question my decision to join the conversation. D.Most neighbours in the building kept to themselves as well. E.As the night progressed, my long-held belief began to loosen. F.But I understood something new: maturity isn’t about shutting others out. G.That belief was challenged one night when a violent storm swept through the city. 1.上文“For years, I kept a careful distance from the people around me. Living in a busy city apartment, I learned to move through shared spaces quietly. (多年来,我与周围的人保持着谨慎的距离。住在繁华的城市公寓里,我学会安静穿行于公共区域)”讲述作者刻意与人保持距离,B选项“I avoided eye contact and unnecessary conversation. (我避免眼神交流和多余交谈)”承接上文,具体说明作者疏远他人的表现,语境连贯。 2.上文“Independence mattered to me, and needing no one felt like part of being a grown-up.(独立对我来说很重要,不需要任何人感觉像是成年人的一部分)”说明作者的想法,下文“Without warning, the power went out. (毫无征兆地,停电了)”引出突发意外事件,G选项“That belief was challenged one night when a violent storm swept through the city. (一晚暴风雨席卷城市,我的固有想法受到了挑战)”起到承上启下的作用,引出停电变故。 3.上文“She held a candle and mentioned that a few residents were gathering in the hallway and invited me to join them. I hesitated. Staying alone felt safe, but something felt unsettled.(她拿着蜡烛,提到有几个居民聚集在走廊里,并邀请我加入他们。我犹豫了一下。独自待着感觉很安全,但有些事情让人感到不安)”说明邻居手持蜡烛邀请作者去走廊相聚,作者内心犹豫纠结,A选项“After a moment, I stepped outside. (片刻之后,我走了出去)”承接情节发展,体现作者最终接受邀请。 4.上文“People sat on the floor, sharing blankets, tea, and quiet conversation.(人们坐在地板上,共享毯子、茶和安静的谈话)”以及“The man I had once assumed was unfriendly turned out to be a retired doctor with a dry sense of humour.(我曾经认为不友好的那个人原来是一个幽默感很强的退休医生)”描写邻里相聚、相处融洽,作者看到了邻居不一样的一面,E选项“As the night progressed, my long-held belief began to loosen. (夜色渐深,我长久以来的固有观念开始动摇)”衔接场景,引出作者内心的思想转变。 5.上文“I didn’t suddenly become outgoing, nor did I abandon my need for space.(我并没有突然变得外向,也没有放弃对空间的需求)”说明作者没有变得外向,也没有放弃独处需求,F选项“But I understood something new: maturity isn’t about shutting others out. (但我有了新的领悟:成熟并非隔绝他人)”转折升华主旨,契合全文感悟。 Passage 5 In Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, he announced the emergence of the daffodil (水仙花) as the telling sign that we had reached “the sweet o’ the year,” that the winds of March’s beauty had arrived, and that a brighter season had begun. In choosing daffodils, the classic yellow type remains a popular choice. However, there are more elegant varieties to pepper throughout your borders, including “Paperwhite” and “Moonlight Sensation”. 1 Fortunately, planting and growing daffodils is a simple task that will gain rich springtime rewards. Planting daffodil bulbs (球茎) requires you to think ahead. The ideal planting time is at the beginning of autumn, before the weather becomes too cold. 2 Late October to November is perfect for regions of mild climates. Additionally, soil with good drainage (排水) is a must, as bulbs won’t produce a wonderful spring display if they sit in water for a long time. 3 What’s more, plant your daffodil bulbs at a depth that is roughly 3 times the bulb’s height, and allow 4-6 inches between them. 4 Otherwise, your daffodils would look unnatural. 5 They enjoy bright light but can also grow healthily in low light. Water the bulbs regularly during growth — there’s no need for frequent watering, as they tolerate slight dryness well. A small amount of general fertiliser is sufficient when shoots emerge to support growth, and this regular application can fully meet their nutrient needs. A.Avoiding planting in rigid rows is a nice trick. B.Daffodils ask for strict light and water control. C.This allows them to establish roots before winter. D.Daffodil lovers have devoted much time and energy. E.Add organics to improve its nutrition for additional care. F.Prized for toughness, daffodils require a light touch in care. G.A spring garden is incomplete without the cheerful daffodil. 1.由上文“In choosing daffodils, the classic yellow type remains a popular choice. However, there are more elegant varieties to pepper throughout your borders, including “Paperwhite” and “Moonlight Sensation”. (在选择水仙花时,经典的黄色品种仍然很受欢迎。然而,还有更多优雅的品种可以点缀在你的边界上,包括“Paperwhite”和“Moonlight Sensation”。)”及下文“Fortunately, planting and growing daffodils is a simple task that will gain rich springtime rewards. (幸运的是,种植和培育水仙花是一项简单的任务,将获得丰富的春天回报。)”可知,上文提到了水仙花有多种优雅品种,下文指出种植水仙花能获得回报,本空应说明水仙花在花园中的重要性,G选项“A spring garden is incomplete without the cheerful daffodil. (没有欢快的水仙花,春天的花园是不完整的。)”能承上启下,符合语境。 2.由上文“The ideal planting time is at the beginning of autumn, before the weather becomes too cold. (理想的种植时间是在初秋,天气变得太冷之前。)”可知,上文说明了种植水仙花的最佳时间,本空应说明在这个时间种植水仙花的好处,C选项“This allows them to establish roots before winter. (这使它们能够在冬天前生根。)”能承接上文,符合语境。 3.由上文“Additionally, soil with good drainage (排水) is a must, as bulbs won’t produce a wonderful spring display if they sit in water for a long time. (此外,排水良好的土壤是必须的,因为如果球茎长时间泡在水里,就不会在春天开出美丽的花朵。)”可知,上文说明了种植水仙花对土壤的要求,本空应说明如何改善土壤条件,E选项“Add organics to improve its nutrition for additional care (添加有机物以改善其营养,进行额外护理。)”能承接上文,符合语境。 4.由上文“What’s more, plant your daffodil bulbs at a depth that is roughly 3 times the bulb’s height, and allow 4-6 inches between them. (更重要的是,将你的水仙花球茎种植在大约是球茎高度3倍的深度,并让它们之间保持4-6英寸的距离。)”可知,上文给出了种植水仙花球茎具体的深度和间距要求,本空应说明种植水仙花时应避免的布局方式,A选项“Avoiding planting in rigid rows is a nice trick. (避免种植成僵硬的行是一个不错的技巧。)”能承接上文,符合语境。 5.由下文“They enjoy bright light but can also grow healthily in low light. Water the bulbs regularly during growth — there’s no need for frequent watering, as they tolerate slight dryness well. (它们喜欢明亮的光线,但也能在低光下健康生长。在生长期定期给球茎浇水——不需要频繁浇水,因为它们能很好地忍受轻微的干燥。)”可知,下文说明了水仙花对光照和水的要求并不严格,本段整体介绍水仙日常养护粗放、生命力强。F选项“Prized for toughness, daffodils require a light touch in care. (水仙花因其坚韧而备受珍视,养护时只需稍加照料即可。)”能引出下文,符合语境。 Passage 6 Online learning is more than a trend. This global reach helps expand opportunity and a sense of shared purpose that comes with learning alongside others working toward similar goals. A.Online learning is a test of self-motivation. B.That means continuous learning is more important than ever. C.It builds the skills essential for your lifelong learning journey. D.Lastly, the biggest advantage of online learning is accessibility. E.These programs can connect you with a network of professionals. F.Specially, they have a strong preference for employees with skills in AI. G.They think it’s as effective as traditional in-person classes and more convenient. 1.上文“Adults aged 25 and older are even more likely to choose online learning, thanks to its flexibility for busy lives.( 25岁及以上的成年人由于生活忙碌,格外青睐在线学习灵活便捷的特点,选择线上学习的比例甚至更高。)” 2.上文“60 percent of employers expect expanded access to digital tools and technology to dramatically change the way they do business and how their teams work.(60%的雇主认为,数字工具与科技的普及,将极大改变企业的运营模式以及团队的工作方式。)” 3.上文“Estimates suggest that nearly 40 percent of current workplace skills will change or become outdated between 2025 and 2030.(据预估,在2025年至2030年间,目前近40%的职场技能将会更新迭代,甚至被淘汰。)” 4.下文“And this connection can provide ongoing industry insights and hands-on opportunities, promoting your professional growth.(这种人脉资源能持续为你提供行业前沿见解与实践机会,助力个人职业成长。)” 中“connect you with a network of professionals”正好对应后文的“connection”,前后指代呼应。 5.下文“Courses are available to learners around the world, making it possible for people from diverse regions and backgrounds to build their education and skill sets together.(全球各地的学习者都能获取相关课程,让不同地域、不同背景的人可以一同进修学业、提升技能。)”讲全球可参与、无地域限制,对应D选项的accessibility(可及性/普惠性)。 Passage 7 They say that life imitates art, and I have found that is true. As a writer, I have heard many stories about authors who write a book and then his or her work of fiction comes true. I first met Bobbie on Facebook eight years ago after editor David wrote to me. Because I am a big fan of Shetland Sheepdogs, he thought I would want to read the book he was editing, and I did. 1 I decided to know this author! We met through messages and then at writers’ conferences, setting our friendship in stone. Recently, her story came to life through posts on Facebook when she lost her dog Sherlock who had filled her life with love. “Please help! This afternoon I lost my Sherlock while hiking up in the mountains. 2 Please share, especially if you know people who hike in that area!” Searching nonstop, she handed out many flyers (传单) and even hired a search and rescue team to track him. Six days later, she posted, “We spent many hours today driving along the roads where there was a possible sighting of him. 3 ” Then, on November 27, a miracle unfolded. Bobbie told me how her husband Todd had answered the phone, “A young woman named April was calling to say, ‘ 4 ’ Todd asked her, ‘How did you get this phone number?’ When she answered, ‘It is right here on his tag.’ Todd knew this was the real thing.” 5 For me, this is the story. D.I thought about writing a story on this. E.The dog was frightened by a strange noise. F.With no luck, we feel like we are chasing shadows. G.Every year it seems that a Christmas miracle story unfolds. 1.上文“Because I am a big fan of Shetland Sheepdogs, he thought I would want to read the book he was editing, and I did.(因为我十分喜欢设得兰牧羊犬,编辑戴维觉得我会想读他正在编审的这本书,我也确实读了。)”交代作者读完了这本书,后文“I decided to know this author!(我决定认识这位作家!)” B“The story had me in tears.(这个故事让我深受感动、潸然落泪。)” 2.上文“Please help! This afternoon I lost my Sherlock while hiking up in the mountains.(求大家帮忙!今天下午我在山里徒步时弄丢了我的狗狗Sherlock。)”是寻狗求助,需要说明具体走失地点,选项C“He was lost on Sam’s Gap Trail.(它在山姆峡谷步道走失。)” 3.上文“We spent many hours today driving along the roads where there was a possible sighting of him.(今天我们花了很长时间沿着有人可能见到它的路段驱车寻找。)” F“With no luck, we feel like we are chasing shadows.(一无所获,我们感觉只是在徒劳追寻。)” 4.上文“A young woman named April was calling to say(一位名叫April的年轻女子打电话来说)”和下文“Todd asked her, ‘How did you get this phone number?’ When she answered, ‘It is right here on his tag.’ Todd knew this was the real thing.”(托德问她:“你是怎么得到这个电话号码的?” A“I think I have your dog.(我想我捡到了你的狗狗。)” 5.后文“For me, this is the story.(对我来说,这就是那个奇迹故事。)” G“Every year it seems that a Christmas miracle story unfolds.(似乎每年都会上演一个圣诞奇迹故事。)” Passage 8 Are you able to plan a balanced weekly meal? Are you able to budget your monthly allowance wisely? Are you able to fix a loose bookshelf or perform basic first aid? 1 This exposes a critical gap in modern K-12 education, which often prioritizes exam scores and academic strictness at the cost of practical life competencies. Schools have excelled in preparing students to be academic high achievers, but may have fallen short in nurturing essential life skills. 2 For many high school graduates stepping into college or independent living, the lack of these basic skills becomes a sudden and stressful challenge. Unable to cook a simple meal, manage a monthly budget, or even assemble furniture, they often find themselves overwhelmed by the demands of daily life. It is a regret that schools produce academically accomplished individuals who are ill-equipped for routine domestic tasks. 3 For example, financial literacy fosters accountability and careful decision-making, while lessons on time management cultivate discipline and efficiency. Even basic cooking classes can teach students about nutrition, planning, and self-reliance — qualities that extend far beyond the kitchen. Equipped with these competencies, students can better navigate adult life and make informed choices for their well-being. Thus, in our complex, fast-paced world, schools must teach beyond traditional academic subjects. After all, the responsibility cannot be fully shifted to families. The argument that parents should teach practical life skills overlooks modern realities. Many working parents lack the time, and some may not possess the necessary proficiency themselves. 4 Sandra Carey, a noted educator, puts it properly: “Knowledge gets you a job; wisdom gets you a life.” School is not merely a place to transmit knowledge and prepare for careers. 5 A.Hence, schools must bridge this life skills gap. B.Few of us can confidently say yes to these questions. C.Yet practical skills are vital for independent adult life. D.Integrating practical skills helps schools teach fuller life values. E.Thus, academic achievement should remain the top priority of school education. F.Rather, it empowers us with the wisdom to build a meaningful, self-sufficient life. G.For instance, many local communities now offer after-school programs for adult learners. 1.前文“Are you able to plan a balanced weekly meal? Are you able to budget your monthly allowance wisely? Are you able to fix a loose bookshelf or perform basic first aid? 以三个问句开头,后文“This exposes a critical gap in modern K-12 education, which often prioritizes exam scores and academic strictness at the cost of practical life competencies. 2.前文“Schools have excelled in preparing students to be academic high achievers, but may have fallen short in nurturing essential life skills. 指出学校在学术培养上成功,但在生活技能培养上不足,后文“For many high school graduates stepping into college or independent living, the lack of these basic skills becomes a sudden and stressful challenge. 指出高中毕业生缺乏基本技能时的困境,空处应进一步强调生活技能的重要性,因此C项“Yet practical skills are vital for independent adult life. 3.后文“For example, financial literacy fosters accountability and careful decision-making, while lessons on time management cultivate discipline and efficiency. Even basic cooking classes can teach students about nutrition, planning, and self-reliance — qualities that extend far beyond the kitchen. 4.前文“The argument that parents should teach practical life skills overlooks modern realities. Many working parents lack the time, and some may not possess the necessary proficiency themselves. 讨论家庭难以承担生活技能教育责任,空处应提出解决方案或进一步论证学校责任,因此A项“Hence, schools must bridge this life skills gap. 故选A。 5.前文“Sandra Carey, a noted educator, puts it properly: “Knowledge gets you a job; wisdom gets you a life.” School is not merely a place to transmit knowledge and prepare for careers. 用教育家的话说明知识和智慧的作用,表明学校不仅是传授知识和职业准备的地方,空处应进一步说明学校在智慧上的更高使命,因此F项“Rather, it empowers us with the wisdom to build a meaningful, self-sufficient life. F。 Passage 9 Today marks the beginning of your journey. I want to talk about a painting that shows a journey we: Winslow Homer’s Old Mill, also known as The Morning Bell. What I love about this painting is its ambiguity (模糊) — it doesn’t give easy answers. 1 Some historical facts can help us understand it better. Homer painted it in 1871, a time when new technologies like electric power and the telephone were appearing. 2 It was a changeable age, when industries and ways of life transformed almost overnight. Now, look at the painting with fresh eyes. What do you see? Perhaps a woman standing at the edge of a new world. She faces both uncertainty and opportunity, unsure of her future. The period in Old Mill is similar to our own time. We are living in the digital age. 3 Social media promises connection but often leaves us feeling more alone. What does this mean for you, starting your college years? What does it mean for universities like Yale, as people question the purpose of higher education? Like the woman in the painting, we cannot predict the future. We don’t have all the answers — no one does, not even ChatGPT. 4 We have curiosity, courage, and compassion. We have humility, open-mindedness, and respect for each other’s dignity. These qualities form the foundation of a strong learning community — one that not only survives difficulties but grows stronger from them. You have the chance to prepare for whatever comes next. 5 These include the ability to think critically, ask questions, and respect different views, which last through time and technology. A.Instead, it invites us to ask questions. B.But we do have tools to face this moment. C.It marks the beginning of a journey for each of you. D.That’s what stands the tests of both time and technology. E.These inventions would completely change work and society. F.Artificial intelligence is changing how we work, learn, and connect. G.In a changing world, the skills you gain will help you adapt and succeed. 1.由上文“What I love about this painting is its ambiguity (模糊) — it doesn’t give easy answers. 2.由上文“Homer painted it in 1871, a time when new technologies like electric power and the telephone were appearing. 及下文“It was a changeable age, when industries and ways of life transformed almost overnight. 3.由上文“We are living in the digital age. 4.由上文“We don’t have all the answers — no one does, not even ChatGPT. 及下文“We have curiosity, courage, and compassion. We have humility, open-mindedness, and respect for each other’s dignity. 5.由上文“You have the chance to prepare for whatever comes next. 及下文“These include the ability to think critically, ask questions, and respect different views, which last through time and technology. Passage 10 A couple years ago, I was at the eye doctor with my six-year-old daughter. The doctor asked me more than once, “Why has she been frowning (皱眉) all the time?” I can’t know how much my child’s being a girl shaped his thoughts about her emotional state. But I know that people start expecting girls to show positive expressions early. Researchers analyzed 16,000 yearbook photographs of students from kindergarten to college. Children showed no significant difference in smiling until age eight or nine. 1 The difference peaked by age 14 and continued into adulthood. We may see such results because as children grow older, they become more aware of societal expectations related to gender roles. 2 People may also internalize gender roles portrayed in film and media, where smiling is seen as more common for women and seriousness for men. In a study, teachers reported that girls were viewed as “peaceful” and “calm” (positive but passive emotions), whereas boys showed more “curiosity” and “anger” (expressive and agentic emotions). 3 This is a misconception. No scientific studies have shown that self-control mechanisms are more developed in girls than they are in boys. Very early on, children learn to manage their emotions in line with societal norms they pick up from their peers and caregivers. Emotional expectations and the offhand comments that children internalize over time harm all kids. 4 Teaching children to manage their emotions is not wrong. But it is important not to expect children to all follow the same pattern. We need to talk with our children about bodily autonomy (自主权). We should also talk about emotional autonomy and how they can better understand their feelings. 5 What matters is how they deal with these feelings. A.Smiling girls are considered more pleasant and friendly. B.Children ought to know that it is okay to feel sad, upset and angry. C.These expectations could come from teachers, parents or peer groups. D.They can also have lasting negative effects on children’s sense of self. E.Then the gap started to widen with girls smiling much more than boys. F.It is widely believed that girls are better than boys managing their emotions. G.Parents might encourage emotional expression in girls but discourage it in boys. 1.前文“Researchers analyzed 16,000 yearbook photographs of students from kindergarten to college. Children showed no significant difference in smiling until age eight or nine.(研究人员分析了 16000 张从幼儿园到大学阶段学生的年鉴照片。 后文“The difference peaked by age 14 and continued into adulthood.(这种差异在 14 岁时达到顶峰,并一直持续到成年时期。)” 空处应起到承上启下的作用,说明在八、九岁之后微笑方面开始出现差异,E选项“Then the gap started to widen with girls smiling much more than boys.(然后,随着女孩比男孩笑得更多,差距开始扩大。)” 2.前文“We may see such results because as children grow older, they become more aware of societal expectations related to gender roles.(我们之所以会看到这样的结果,是因为随着孩子年龄的增长,他们会对与性别角色相关的社会期望有更清晰的认识。)” 后文“People may also internalize gender roles portrayed in film and media, where smiling is seen as more common for women and seriousness for men.(人们也可能会将电影和媒体中所呈现的性别角色内化,比如在这些作品中,微笑被认为是女性更常见的表情,而严肃则是男性的特征。)” 空处应进一步说明这些社会期望的来源,C选项“These expectations could come from teachers, parents or peer groups.(这些期望可能来自老师、家长或同龄群体。)” 3.前文“In a study, teachers reported that girls were viewed as “peaceful” and “calm” (positive but passive emotions), whereas boys showed more “curiosity” and “anger” (expressive and agentic emotions).(在一项研究中,教师们表示,女孩被认为具有“平和”和“冷静”的特质(即积极但较为被动的情绪),而男孩则表现出更多的“好奇心”和“愤怒”(即富有表现力且具有主动性的情绪)。)” 后文“This is a misconception. No scientific studies have shown that self-control mechanisms are more developed in girls than they are in boys.(这是一种错误的看法。 空处应是提出一种普遍看法——女孩比男孩更善于自我控制,F选项“It is widely believed that girls are better than boys managing their emotions.(人们普遍认为女孩比男孩更善于管理情绪。)” 4.前文“Very early on, children learn to manage their emotions in line with societal norms they pick up from their peers and caregivers. Emotional expectations and the offhand comments that children internalize over time harm all kids.(很早的时候,孩子们就会学着按照从同龄人和照顾者那里习得的社会规范来管理自己的情绪。 提到,内化的情绪期待和随意评价会伤害所有孩子,D选项“They can also have lasting negative effects on children’s sense of self.(它们也会对孩子的自我认知产生持久的负面影响。)” 5.前文“We need to talk with our children about bodily autonomy (自主权). We should also talk about emotional autonomy and how they can better understand their feelings.(我们需要和孩子谈论身体自主权。 后文“What matters is how they deal with these feelings.(重要的是他们如何处理这些情绪。)” 空处应说明孩子有各种不同的感受是正常的,B选项“Children ought to know that it is okay to feel sad, upset and angry.(孩子们应该知道感到悲伤、沮丧和愤怒是可以的。)” Passage 11 As part of my research for my book, I’m doing an experiment — a “daily visit.” I wanted to visit the same place every day, for an entire year, to see how that experience would affect my perceptions. 1 A large place, a beautiful place, and an inexhaustible place. And so I decided on the Metropolitan Museum of Art, a treasure house within walking distance of my apartment — seven minutes, I timed it. But here’s the thing: I’ve lived within walking distance of the Met for years. 2 The museum had always been there, waiting, but I’d mostly ignored it. For me, the Met was an untapped possibility that I was eager to explore, and I wondered if other people felt the same way. I asked on social media. 3 I’d assumed that my desire to visit the same place every day was fairly unusual, so I was surprised by how enthusiastically people embraced this idea. I heard from many people who already made daily visits, or who liked the idea of making daily visits, to places such as: the beach, public library, hiking trails, and even a castle! When I started this experiment of making a daily visit, I had no idea what to expect. Spoiler alert (剧透): I love this visit. 4 I may visit the Met every day for the rest of my life. I’m reminded of one of my favorite quotations by Alberto Giacometti: Everything gains in grandeur (宏伟) every day, becomes more and more unknown, more and more beautiful. 5 A.It’s a highlight of my daily schedule. B.I was astonished by the flood of answers I received. C.Visiting the same place every day was not easy for me. D.The closer I come, the grander it is, the more remote it is. E.The fact that I could visit was no guarantee that I would visit. F.People who try new things and go to new places tend to be happier. G.For this challenge, I needed a place I could easily visit, day after day. 1.上文“As part of my research for my book, I’m doing an experiment — a ‘daily visit.’ I wanted to visit the same place every day, for an entire year, to see how that experience would affect my perceptions. 2.上文“But here’s the thing: I’ve lived within walking distance of the Met for years. (但问题是:我在大都会艺术博物馆附近住了很多年)”说明作者多年来住得离大都会博物馆很近,下文“The museum had always been there, waiting, but I’d mostly ignored it. 3.上文“For me, the Met was an untapped possibility that I was eager to explore, and I wondered if other people felt the same way. I asked on social media. 于是,我在社交媒体上发起了询问)”及下文“I’d assumed that my desire to visit the same place every day was fairly unusual, so I was surprised by how enthusiastically people embraced this idea. 4.上文“When I started this experiment of making a daily visit, I had no idea what to expect. Spoiler alert (剧透): I love this visit. 故选A。 5.上文“Everything gains in grandeur (宏伟) every day, becomes more and more unknown, more and more beautiful. D。 Passage 12 Our conversations shape who we are and make us unique individuals. 1 As one expert puts it, “The quality of our conversations is closely linked to our personal happiness, as well as our success in both social and work life.” While issues like healthy eating have long been a key focus of public health, we know very little about one of humanity’s most amazing abilities — the ability to have meaningful conversations. 2 We struggle to have meaningful talks with people who think differently or come from different backgrounds. All too often, we forget to truly listen to others when they speak, which acts as the basis of empathy and collaboration. Without even noticing, we often give inappropriate responses that hinder good communication. For this reason, we badly need to make conversational skill a public concern. This important skill helps us think more carefully and recognize the great influence of our daily conversations. 3 Such conversations damage trust and connection, ultimately ruining our harmonious social relationships. When we engage in real, face-to-face conversations and give each other our full attention, something special unfolds. Our bodies naturally come into harmony with each other; we unconsciously mirror each other’s movements and work in perfect harmony. Research also shows that our brains can synchronize (同步) during meaningful conversations. 4 We can begin building our conversational literacy right now, starting with small, intentional daily steps. 5 After all, this kind of genuine and uninterrupted conversation will have a profound and lasting impact on the success and emotional health of the family’s youngest members: developing their personal lives, deepening their relationships, and shaping their future careers. A.It also enables us to spot and avoid harmful talks. B.The deeper the talk, the stronger this neural link grows. C.So it’s workable to gather our family for phone-free dinners. D.Many of us don’t know how to handle difficult conversations. E.They can build relationships or break the connections we hold dear. F.However, finding time for deep talks is not always within easy reach. G.Meaningful conversations begin with genuine listening, not quick responses. 1.根据上文“Our conversations shape who we are and make us unique individuals.(我们的交流塑造了我们自身,使我们成为独一无二的个体)”前句提到对话塑造自我、让我们独一无二。 2.根据后文“We struggle to have meaningful talks with people who think differently or come from different backgrounds. All too often, we forget to truly listen to others when they speak, which acts as the basis of empathy and collaboration. Without even noticing, we often give inappropriate responses that hinder good communication.(我们很难与那些想法不同或来自不同背景的人进行有意义的交流。 3.根据上文“For this reason, we badly need to make conversational skill a public concern. This important skill helps us think more carefully and recognize the great influence of our daily conversations.(基于此,我们迫切需要将口语表达能力提升成为一项公众关注的议题。 4.根据上文“When we engage in real, face-to-face conversations and give each other our full attention, something special unfolds. Our bodies naturally come into harmony with each other; we unconsciously mirror each other’s movements and work in perfect harmony. Research also shows that our brains can synchronize (同步) during meaningful conversations.(当我们进行真实的面对面交流,并全神贯注地倾听对方时,一些特别的事情就会发生。 5.根据上文“We can begin building our conversational literacy right now, starting with small, intentional daily steps.(我们现在就可以开始培养我们的对话理解能力了,可以从一些小而有目的的日常行动开始做起)”以及后文“After all, this kind of genuine and uninterrupted conversation will have a profound and lasting impact on the success and emotional health of the family’s youngest members: developing their personal lives, deepening their relationships, and shaping their future careers.(毕竟,这种真诚且连贯的交流会对家庭中年幼成员的成功和心理健康产生深远且持久的影响:有助于他们个人成长、加深彼此关系,并塑造他们未来的职业道路)”可知,前句提到从日常小步骤培养交谈素养;后句讲到家庭、孩子。 Passage 13 The New Year is a time when people often set resolutions to start a new hobby and exercise more. But rather than always choose something new to do, researchers suggest maybe considering the opposite. “It’s time to reassess at the end of the year ‘ 1 ’” says Rachit Dubey from the University of California, Los Angeles. 2 “It’s human nature to set goals because goals give us direction. Goals represent some desired future end state,” says Dubey. But past goals may have become impractical to work toward. Maybe they feel too hard or they just no longer match what you want for your life now. Continuing to work toward goals that don’t fit can create guilt and stress. Worse still, the time and effort spent trying may prevent you seeing other options. But breaking up with a goal and moving on can be messy and painful. 3 A recent study surveyed over 500 university students over nine months. In the beginning, the team asked participants about a long-term goal they were quitting. To assess inner drive, the team asked participants to rate statements such as, “ 4 ” Statements like “People have been telling me I have to let this goal go” assessed outside pressures to quit. With the study progressing, the team assessed how “stuck” a person was. People who were quitting primarily due to outside pressures tended to get more stuck than those who were self-driven. People don’t just wake up one day, saying, “I’m done” and move on to their next adventure. But what’s clear is that holding on to an outgrown goal can do more harm than good. 5 And finding a new path forward may first require the courage to say, “I think I can’t.” A.I feel torn about letting go of this goal. B.This goal no longer reflects who I am. C.Goals serve an important role in our lives. D.Can I replace my past goals with new achievable ones? E.What is something I don’t need in my life anymore? F.So sometimes, letting go can be tougher than sticking it out. At a recycling centre in north-east London, when a rabbit specimen (标本) arrived, Lisa Charlton knew she had to save it. She was so sure that Tracy, one of her regulars, would want it. 1 . Charlton works at the centre’s onsite ReUse shop, and has saved a lot of rubbish from landfill The centre was built on an old sports field at Kings Road and opened in 1994. Charlton shows me around. It is a cold and rainy Friday morning. 2 . By 10:30 in the morning, the place is already very busy. Throughout the day, I meet people getting rid of unwanted stuff: a couple throwing away woodwork and boxes, a woman dropping off pots of unused paint and another donating bird books. I meet production designer Alison Julian. The objects she finds will feature in TV, film, photo and video shoots. 3 . “I seldom leave with less stuff than I arrived with,” she says. “This is the future,” says one of the waste management officers. “We live at a time when the climate is becoming crazier. In order to survive on this planet, we have to recycle.” 4 . North London Waste Authority chair Clyde Loakes wants a push towards reuse and repair as well. “For my father’s generation, reuse was something that they grew up with,” says Loakes. “My dad can still pretty much fix basic electrical items. 5 .” In the past 12 months, the NLWA has been running a program where residents can get household appliances fixed at a shop at a maximum discount of £50. “It’s nice,” says Charlton, “not to see things go to waste when they’ve got so much more life in them.” A.And she did. B.That’s not a skill I’ve picked up. C.But not everyone is in favor of recycling. D.That hasn’t stopped people from coming, anyway. E.I never thought a dead rabbit could make someone so happy. F.Others believe that doing so will require more than recycling. Whether it’s at a party, on a train, or in a coffee shop, the fear of rejection or awkwardness often holds us back. However, connecting with new people is one of life’s great pleasures. Here are some simple strategies to make it easier. Start with an observation. The easiest way to break the ice is to comment on your shared environment. It’s low-pressure and doesn’t require any personal information. 1 For instance, if you’re at a bookshop, you might say, “That author is amazing. Have you read any other books of his?” Use open-ended questions. Once you’ve broken the ice, keep the conversation flowing. Avoid questions that can be answered with a simple “yes” or “no.” 2 This encourages the other person to share a bit more and gives you material to work with. For example, instead of “Do you like this music?”, ask “What do you think of the band?” Practice active listening. People love to feel heard. Instead of thinking about what you’re going to say next while the other person is talking, really focus on their words. 3 It shows you’re engaged and encourages them to elaborate. A simple “That’s really interesting, tell me more” can work wonders. Find common ground. As the conversation develops, listen for shared interests or experiences. Discovering a mutual connection can instantly make a conversation more enjoyable and meaningful. 4 It could be a shared love for hiking, a dislike for a certain food, or knowing the same place. 5 Not every attempt will lead to a deep friendship, and that’s perfectly fine. If a conversation feels forced or fizzles out (逐渐消失), don’t take it personally. Simply smile, excuse yourself politely, and move on. Every conversation is practice for the next one. A.Show your interest through nods and brief comments. B.This turns a casual chat into a more engaging interaction. C.It helps to have a few interesting stories prepared in advance. D.Accept that some conversations will naturally come to an end. E.Instead, ask questions that begin with “how,” “why,” or “what.” F.It’s important to always try to keep the conversation light and humorous. G.This could be about the weather, the music playing, or the event you’re both at. 1.根据上文“Start with an observation. Passage 2 Bathrooms are naturally damp and steamy. Passage 3 People often ask me what drew me to become a chef. Passage 4 For years, I kept a careful distance from the people around me. Passage 5 In Shakespeare’s The Winter’s Tale, he announced the emergence of the daffodil (水仙花) as the telling sign that we had reached “the sweet o’ the year,” that the winds of March’s beauty had arrived, and that a brighter season had begun. Passage 6 Online learning is more than a trend. Adults aged 25 and older are even more likely to choose online learning, thanks to its flexibility for busy lives. 1 Let’s explore the value of online education in today’s job market. Taking online courses can be a smart move for your career and can lead to new roles and a higher salary. According to a report from the World Economic Forum, 60 percent of employers expect expanded access to digital tools and technology to dramatically change the way they do business and how their teams work. 2 Estimates suggest that nearly 40 percent of current workplace skills will change or become outdated between 2025 and 2030. 3 Online education gives you a way to keep pace with change while building certificates that demonstrate your readiness to take on more responsibility. Many learners also use online programs to show commitment to professional growth. Whether you’re aiming for a promotion or changing to a new field, earning a certificate or degree online can signal to your employer that you’re invested in staying relevant and prepared. 4 And this connection can provide ongoing industry insights and hands-on opportunities, promoting your professional growth. 5 Courses are available to learners around the world, making it possible for people from diverse regions and backgrounds to build their education and skill sets together. Passage 7 They say that life imitates art, and I have found that is true. To know that her friend Sherlock is at home where he belongs is the only miracle that I need this season. A.I think I have your dog. B.The story had me in tears. C.He was lost on Sam’s Gap Trail. D.I thought about writing a story on this. E.The dog was frightened by a strange noise. F.With no luck, we feel like we are chasing shadows. G.Every year it seems that a Christmas miracle story unfolds. Passage 8 Are you able to plan a balanced weekly meal? Passage 9 Today marks the beginning of your journey. Passage 11 As part of my research for my book, I’m doing an experiment — a “daily visit.” I wanted to visit the same place every day, for an entire year, to see how that experience would affect my perceptions. Passage 12 Our conversations shape who we are and make us unique individuals. Passage 13 The New Year is a time when people often set resolutions to start a new hobby and exercise more. G.Cutting ties can clear space in your life to pursue what matters to you. Passage 14 One person’s trash is another’s treasure. G.But today she is eyeing up a cast-iron log burner for her home. Passage 15 How to Start a Conversation with a Stranger Striking up a conversation with someone you don’t know can feel frightening.
