Zhong Yi
For my book report, I've chosen The Romance of the Thtree Kingdoms by Luo Guanzhong. I love historical fiction novels, and this is a classic. It describes a time long ago when three kingdoms fought one another for over 100 years. There are almost 1,000 different characters. My favourite is Zhuge Liang because he's so clever and he has a plan for everything. The book is full of great stories, and it has helped me to understand many Chinese idioms better.

Have you ever heard of Oliver Twist? It’s a classic social novel from the 1800s by my favourite writer, Charles Dickens. It talks about how poor people lived in London back then.
In the story, Oliver is a boy whose parents have died. He becomes a factory worker, but he's later forced to steal things.
I really like Oliver. He's always kind to others, even when things are tough. In the end, the bad people are punished, and Oliver has a better life. I love this story, and I've already read it twice.

Role-play: A conversation about a good read (2d)
Fu Xing:I've just finishedAlice's Adventures in Wonderlandby Lewis Carroll. It's a fantasy classic about a girl who gets lost in a magical world. Have you ever read it, Peter?
Peter:I've never read it, but I've watched the movie. It was quite interesting.
Fu Xing:I've alwayspreferred the book to the movie. The descriptions in the book are so vivid. You can really imagine the strange world Alice lives in.
Peter:What's your favorite part?
Fu Xing:My favorite part is when Alice drinks from a small bottle and becomes tiny. Then she finds a small key, but she can't reach the door. It's so funny and creative!
Peter:That does sound interesting. Maybe I should read the book too.
💡 Language Points:
•I've just finished...(刚刚完成) •Have you ever read...?(曾经读过吗?)
• I've never read it...(从未读过) •prefer A to B(比起B更喜欢A)
1.7.2013
Let's look at this conversation between Fu Xing and Peter. They are talking about the book 'Alice's Adventures in Wonderland'. Pay attention to the phrases in red. 'I've just finished' means the action happened a short time ago. 'Have you ever read' asks about experience. 'I've never read' means the person has no experience of doing it. And 'prefer A to B' means you like A more than B. Now, work with a partner and role-play this conversation.
