阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Media literacy isn’t just a nice-to-have skill anymore - it’s essential. At its core, media literacy means understanding how media works - who created a message, why it was made, and how it’s meant to influence the audience. Students are constantly surrounded by messages: some are helpful, others misleading. Teaching them to analyze, question, and evaluate media gives them the tools to think critically and make informed choices. The good news? You can build media literacy into what you’re already doing, one step at a time.
Use Headlines as Warm-Ups
Start class with a real-world headline - ideally one related to your subject area.
Ask students:
● Is this information reliable?
● Where did it come from?
● What might be missing?
This five-minute routine builds awareness and can lead to great discussions.
Compare Two Sources
Pick two texts on the same topic but from different perspectives. This could be editorials, news articles, or video content. Ask students to compare:
● Language and tone.
● Choice of images.
● What facts are emphasized or ignored?
This is a great way to teach bias (偏见) and point of view, especially in ELA or social studies.
Build Visual Literacy
Use political cartoons, advertisements, or photos to practise interpreting:
● What’s the message?
● How is it being communicated visually?
● Who benefits from this image?
This kind of analysis helps students read beyond the text.
This is about teaching students to be curious, and you just need to model curiosity. When you say, “Let’s figure out where this came from,” you’re demonstrating to students how to think critically. And when they see you do it regularly, they start doing it too.
1. What is the primary purpose of teaching media literacy to students?
A. To arouse their interest in media.
B. To enhance their literature skills.
C. To develop their critical thinking ability.
D. To broaden their general media knowledge.
2. Which technique of teaching media literacy is recommended?
A. Using visual aids in teaching.
B. Asking students to connect two sources.
C. Providing materials that include pictures.
D. Having students figure out better headlines.
3. How can teachers best stimulate students’ curiosity?
A. Ask routine questions. B. Show, don’t just tell.
C. Reward curious students. D. Tell, don’t just watch.
【答案】1. C 2. A 3. B

Nowadays, people lay everything to heredity (遗传); that is, we receive our special talents from our ancestors. I shall tell you my story to show that I did not inherit my passion for insects from any of them.
My mother’s parents did not care in the least about insects. The only attention my grandfather paid to an insect was to crush it under his foot. My illiterate (不识字的) grandmother would throw away a caterpillar in fright. My own parents did not inspire this love. My mother was illiterate; my father, slightly educated, was too busy for encouragement.
Yet I began to observe as a baby. One day, standing on the grassland, I was fascinated by the sun. A question possessed me: did I sense the sunlight with my mouth or my eyes? I opened my mouth and closed my eyes: glory disappeared. I opened my eyes and shut my mouth: glory returned. I saw with my eyes! Oh, what a discovery! At home, my grandmother smiled; the others laughed.
At nightfall, a faint jingle from the bushes attracted me. Who is making that noise? They spoke of a wolf, but I had to look. After a stubborn watch, I caught the singer — a grasshopper (蚂蚱)! I now knew, from personal observation, that the grasshopper sings. I did not tell them my discovery, for fear of the same laughter.
Later, I went to school. The room served every purpose; school, kitchen, bedroom, even a chicken house and a piggery. Our studies were constantly disturbed by little pigs rubbing (蹭) against our legs or by the hen and her chicks, or by the smells of cooking. But my passion for animals and plants progressed of itself, fueled by the country school’s continuous offerings — from studying the pigeon on my book to collecting snails, catching frogs, and admiring beetles in the fields.
Thus, in this chaos, the future observer taught himself.

Fire kills nearly 3, 700 Americans yearly and destroys $23 billion in property, often because traditional smoke detectors fail to warn residents timely — leaving little time to escape or call for help. Now, NYU Tandon School of Engineering’s NYU Fire Research Group has developed an AI system to boost fire safety, using existing security cameras to detect fires and smoke in real time.
Published in IEEE Internet of Things, the system analyzes video footage, identifying fires in 0.016 seconds per frame — faster than a human blink (眨眼) — to give vital extra minutes for evacuation and emergency response. Unlike conventional detectors, which need heavy smoke buildup and close proximity to activate, it spots early-stage fires via video alone, even before flames spread widely.
Concerning statistics highlight the urgent need: 11% of residential fire deaths happen where detectors failed — either due to malfunction or total absence. To make matters worse, modern building materials and open floor plans make fires spread 2-3 times faster than in older structures, with structural collapse times greatly reduced.
The team used an overall approach, combining multiple advanced AI algorithms (算法) to cut false alarms — a critical factor, as false alerts waste emergency resources. Multiple algorithms must agree to confirm a fire. Trained on a custom dataset covering the National Fire Protection Association’s five fire classes (from ordinary combustibles to electrical and cooking fires) , the best model hit 80. 6% accuracy. Temporal analysis, which tracks how fire regions change across video frames, removes false alarms with 92. 6% accuracy, “Real fires are dynamic — growing, shifting shape,” noted Professor Sunil Kumar.
Cloud-based, the system uses existing CCTV (闭路电视) ; cameras stream raw video to servers for AI analysis. On detection, it automatically generates video clips and sends real-time alerts via email and text — no costly hardware upgrades, a strength for widespread use.
It can integrate with drones (无人机) to spot remote wildfires early and firefighters’ tools to enhance safety. Beyond fire, the team says it may adapt to security threats or medical emergencies, expanding safety monitoring.
8. What can we know about the fire in America from the text?
A. It has caused massive damage. B. It seems less destructive currently.
C. It primarily affects old buildings at large. D. It takes lots of effort to put out it.
9. Which of the following best describes the system?
A. Time-consuming. B. Extremely costly.
C. Good-looking. D. Highly efficient.
10. What does the team intend to emphasize about the system in the last paragraph?
A. Its safety rules in use. B. Its potential application.
C. Its demand for software. D. Its possible weaknesses.
11. Which is the most suitable title for the text?
A. The Threat of Fire B. AI Powers Fire Security
C. The Rise of Drones D. AI Gives Early Warning

D
For all the fears around teens and screens, the most square-eyed generation is the elderly. Older people have long been champion TV-viewers. Now a new generation of pensioners (领养老金的人) are adding to their screen time with smartphones and iPads, which take up more than half of their waking hours.
The digitization of old age is a good thing. Facebook and WhatsApp bring daily updates from old friends and faraway grandchildren. Zoom transports church, book clubs and doctors’ appointments into the home for people who cannot attend personally. E-commerce removes physical shopping burdens. Hours of entertainment from any era are available on demand. A connected retirement is more fulfilling and fun than an offline one.
Older people are protected from some of the on-screen risks that threaten teenagers. Having established their key real-life relationships, they are less in danger of the social development challenges that affect youth. Their worldviews, already formed, prove more resistant to online temptation. Furthermore, their extensive free time means swapping one leisure pursuit for another — unlike for students facing academic pressures.
However, as retirement moves online there will be costs that society must consider. Older folks' devices, unlike those of teenagers, are usually connected to credit cards. Door-to-door cheats, who have long preyed (欺骗) on the elderly, can now go iPad-to-iPad. The authorities rightly strive to protect children from online predators. They must recognize that there is another, fast-growing disadvantaged group to look after. Additionally, as heavy consumers of digital news, older adults tend to fall for misinformation — a problem made worse by advancing AI technology. Since seniors are the most consistent voting group, their potential miseducation would negatively affect elections.
The social impact remains complex. While digital connectivity reduces feelings of loneliness, it may also reduce physical social interaction. Unlike children whose screen time is regulated by adults, seniors generally lack guidance from others in dealing with these pros and cons. Next time children are urged to put down the phones, they might glance toward their grandparents — equally obsessed with their own screens — suggesting that digital responsibility knows no age limit.
12. Why is digital life beneficial to the elderly?
A. It is a replacement for their offline life.
B. It reduces their need for entertainment.
C. It gives access to professional training.
D. It offers social contact and convenience.
13. Why are elderly users more resistant to some digital risks?
A. They receive family guidance. B. They have sound life foundations.
C. They use simpler digital devices. D. They possess stronger technical skills.
14. What can be inferred from paragraph 4?
A. Teenagers are better at identifying online cheating.
B. AI technology is a primary driver of misinformation.
C. Governments should expand online protection efforts.
D. Seniors hold a casual attitude towards political affairs.
15. Which describes the author’s attitude to the digitization of seniors?
A. Skeptical. B. Concerned. C. Pessimistic. D. Favorable.
【答案】12. D 13. B 14. C 15. B
【解析】

They say that life imitates art, and I have found that is true. As a writer, I have heard many stories about authors who write a book and then his or her work of fiction comes true. I first met Bobbie on Facebook eight years ago after editor David wrote to me. Because I am a big fan of Shetland Sheepdogs, he thought I would want to read the book he was editing, and I did. ____16____ I decided to know this author! We met through messages and then at writers’ conferences, setting our friendship in stone.

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Just two days earlier, my parents called to announce they were coming to visit grandkids and spend the night. This would be their first stay at our mountain house, but our old mattress (床垫) was worn and a new one couldn’t wait. The forecast had promised heavy rain all weekend, and sure enough it had been pouring until that morning.
My parents arrived early in the morning. By then, my husband was away on business. Though strong winds were still predicted for the afternoon, after settling them in, I decided to drive to the second-hand market in town to find a replacement mattress. I found a king-size steal — only $50. Two employees carried the mattress out and placed it onto the roof of my car. It hung forward over the window of my tiny car by about two feet.
All I needed to do was get it home. All seemed to be going well — until the wind showed its force. With each mile up the mountain, the wind grew wilder, rocking my car back and forth. The mattress felt heavier, pulling at the ropes as if it was trying to break free. The road was too narrow to turn around. I had to keep going.
As I rounded the last turn, I was met head-on by the worst rush of wind. My car too light, the mattress too heavy and the wind too strong, I lost control and crashed into a telephone pole. I tried to start the engine. Nothing. Trapped in the damaged car with my phone running out of battery and darkness falling, I felt a wave of panic wash over me.
Minutes later, a truck approached. I breathed a sigh of relief. But when I saw a huge man get out of the truck and heard a deep, heavily accented voice, that relief disappeared. “Looks like you’ve got yourself in a spot of trouble, ma’am,” he said. Then he reached into his bag and pulled out a knife. My heart missed a beat. This was it. The crash hadn’t killed me, but now this strange man would.
注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
(2)请按如下格式作答。

Soon, the huge man drove me and my mattress to my doorstep.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
I was so scared that my hands began shaking. But the attack didn’t happen. With rapid movements, he cut through the ropes holding down the mattress, lifted it onto his shoulder and loaded it onto his truck. I stared at him in shock, with my hands still trembling from the earlier fear. He noticed my unease, paused, and said softly, “I just want to help you get home safely.” Then he walked to the driver’s seat, opened the door, and helped me out. The storm continued, but my panic dissolved as I slid into the truck beside him.
Soon, the huge man drove me and my mattress to my doorstep. Before the truck stopped, I saw my parents rushing toward us, their faces filled with worry. As we got off, my mom hurried over to hold my hand, while my dad helped with the mattress. After the mattress was positioned, I expressed my gratitude to the man and offered to give him some money. But he refused, waving at us and leaving. Watching the truck disappear into the night, I realized how quick I’d been to judge a stranger by his appearance and that kindness often comes in unexpected packages.

第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)

4. What does the author intend to convey by telling his family story?
A. The hardship of rural life. B. His natural passion for insects.
C. His early education background. D. The influence of his family on him.
5. How did the author’s family react to his discovery about the sunlight?
A. They rejected it. B. They questioned it.
C. They brushed it aside. D. They approved of it.
6. What does the description of the school mainly suggest?
A. The lively classes attracted animals. B. The students lacked interest in learning.
C. The animals became a threat to students. D. The environment presented barriers to learning.
7. What was the author like as a boy?
A. Inquiring. B. Encouraging. C. Troublesome. D. Ambitious.
