I didn’t check the weather app that morning, so I soon got completely wet. That’s why checking weather reports is so important.
Respect nature’s changes and never try to fight against them. When a storm comes, stay calm and find a safe place 5 (hide) instead of running in the rain. Do not cut down trees or pollute rivers, as these actions will make nature’s temper 6 (bad). Trees can help stop strong winds and prevent floods, while clean rivers keep nature balanced.
Learn from nature’s lessons. Every change of nature 7 (have) a reason, and it teaches us to be humble and brave. When we see plants standing firmly in a storm, we should learn 8 (they) courage. When we feel the gentle wind in spring, we should cherish the beauty of nature.

三、阅读理解
My Project: Learn and Protect Against Natural Disasters
My name is Li Ming. I am in Grade 8. Last month, our English teacher asked us to do a Project called “Learn and Protect Against Natural Disasters”. Our goal was to find out useful safety tips for natural disasters and share them with our classmates to help everyone keep safe.
At first, I knew little about how to protect myself during floods or storms. For the Project, I joined a group of four classmates. We searched for safety information online, read disaster safety books and even asked a rescue worker for advice. We found that staying calm and preparing emergency supplies in advance are the most important things when facing natural disasters.
We also interviewed our neighbors about their experiences of dealing with small storms. Many of them told us that they used to be nervous during disasters, but now they know how to stay safe by following safety tips. We decided to make a safety video with our collected tips, like “Stay away from windows during storms” and “Prepare a first-aid kit at home”.
When we showed our video to the class, our teacher and classmates praised us. She said our Project was practical and helpful. Through this Project, I learned a lot about disaster safety and realized that everyone should master basic safety skills. I hope more people can learn these tips and protect themselves and their families.

A.Natural disasters are not dangerous
B.Everyone should master basic disaster safety skills
C.Making a video is boring
D.Emergency supplies are useless
Wildfires are one of the most dangerous natural disasters in the world. They can do great harm to nature and people. They can be caused by many things, such as lightning strikes in dry forests, people’s carelessness like not putting out campfires, and hot weather that makes plants dry and easy to burn.
Once a wildfire starts, it spreads very fast, burning large areas of forests, houses and crops. It can also hurt or even kill people and animals, and make the air very dirty. If you are in a forest when a wildfire starts, the most important thing is to stay calm and not panic. You should run to an open place as quickly as possible, such as a field, a road or a clearing, because there are no trees or grass to help the fire burn. You should also cover your mouth and nose with a wet cloth to stop breathing in harmful smoke.
If you are at home when a wildfire comes, you should close all the doors and windows tightly to keep smoke out. You should also turn off the gas and electricity to stop fires or explosions.
Firefighters and volunteers often work very hard to put out wildfires. They risk their lives to save people and protect homes. Sometimes, they make firebreaks, which are areas without trees or grass, to prevent the fire from spreading.
Besides, we can also do something to stop wildfires in our daily life. We should never start fires in the forest, and we should be very careful with matches and lighters, especially in dry weather. We should also tell our friends and family about the danger of wildfires and work together to protect our environment.
1.What can cause wildfires?
A.Lightning and heavy rain.
B.Lightning and human carelessness.
C.Heavy rain and extreme weather.

A.Run to an open area. B.Stay in the forest.
C.Climb a tree. D.Hide under a tree.
3.What do firefighters do to stop wildfires from spreading?
A.They cut down all the trees. B.They create firebreaks.
C.They pour water on the fire. D.They call for more volunteers.
4.How can we prevent wildfires?
A.Start small fires in the forest. B.Collect rubbish in the forest.
C.Be careful with matches and lighters. D.Plant more trees.
5.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The Causes of Wildfires
B.Wildfires: Dangers and Safety
C.Staying Safe During a Wildfire
D.How Firefighters Stop Wildfires
Nature can be both beautiful and powerful. Sometimes, it brings storms, earthquakes, or wildfires that change our lives in just a few minutes. Knowing what to do when danger comes can help keep us safe. Here are three short passages about facing the forces of nature.
A: The Smart Family
Last summer, the Miller family from Florida was on a camping trip near a forest. One evening, they saw smoke in the distance. Soon, the sky turned orange and they could smell burning wood. Mr. Miller remembered a useful piece of advice: “Wildfires move fast. You should leave the area right away and not wait.” The family quickly packed their things and drove to another town. Later, they learned that the fire burned a large part of the forest. Mrs. Miller said, “We almost did not make it out. Ten more minutes and we could be in real danger.”
B: What to Do During an Earthquake
If you are inside a building when an earthquake starts, remember three simple steps. First, drop to the ground at once so that you do not fall over. Second, take cover under a strong table or desk. If there is nothing to hide under, stay near an inside wall. Third, hold on until the shaking stops. Do not run outside while the ground is moving because things may fall and hurt you. After the shaking stops, leave the building quickly and go to an open area away from trees and power lines.
C: A Village That Worked Together
In 2023, a small village in northern India faced a terrible flood. The river near the village rose quickly after days of heavy rain. The village leader, an old man named Ram, used a loud bell to warn everyone. Young people helped carry children and old neighbours to higher ground. They also shared food and clothes with families who lost their homes. One teenager said, “We did not have much, but we had each other.” After the flood, they worked together to clean up the village and rebuild their homes.
1.What does the underlined word “it” in Passage A mean?
A.The forest fire. B.The camping trip. C.The dangerous situation.
2.According to Passage B, what should you do when the ground is still shaking?
A.Run outside to an open area.
B.Stay under a strong table and hold on.
C.Stand near a window to see what is happening.
3.How did Ram warn the villagers about the flood in Passage C?
A.He called everyone on the phone.
B.He used a loud bell to let people know.
C.He ran from house to house and shouted.
4.What do the three passages tell us about facing natural disasters?
A.Only young people can help during a disaster.
B.The best way is to leave as quickly as you can.
C.Knowing what to do and helping each other can save lives.
5.Emma lives by a river. Heavy rain is coming. What should she do first?
A.Wait at home.
B.Watch the water rise.
C.Pack things and move to higher ground.
In October 2025, Hurricane (飓风) Melissa hit the Caribbean (加勒比地区), becoming one of the strongest hurricanes in history. It caused serious harm across several countries.
Melissa first arrived in Jamaica with heavy rain and strong winds. At that time, the wind speed (速度) reached about 295 km/h. The heavy rain soon caused landslides and floods. About 25,000 people suffered from the disaster. More than 70% of Jamaica experienced power failure. Later, Melissa hit Cuba. Over 100,000 people there were stranded (被困住) by rising rivers. After Melissa left Cuba, it swept over the Bahamas, causing floods on some islands.
According to research, several things caused such a terrible hurricane. The temperature was the first one. In fact, the temperature of the sea surface plays an important role in the formation of hurricanes. During that time, the sea surface temperature in that area was nearly 30°C. Winds “helped” as well. If winds change greatly at different heights, they can “cut off” a hurricane. However, the winds didn’t change much as Melissa developed. Besides, a good outflow (外流) of air at the top level of the weather system also played a part.
Sadly, human activities are driving climate change, and this change was one of the reasons behind the bad weather. Many researchers have found the connection between such bad weather and climate change: Warmer seawater creates more energy, which allows for stronger hurricanes.
“Human-caused climate change made Hurricane Melissa even worse and more harmful,” said a climate scientist. So, there is no time to lose. We must take action now to bring nature back into balance.
1.How did Hurricane Melissa move?
A.Jamaica → the Bahamas → Cuba
B.Jamaica → Cuba → the Bahamas
C.Cuba → the Bahamas → Jamaica
D.Cuba → Jamaica → the Bahamas
2.Which question does paragraph 2 answer?
A.What did people think of the hurricane?
B.When did the hurricane reach the Caribbean?
C.Why did the hurricane change after it landed?
D.How did the hurricane harm those countries?
3.Why didn’t the winds “cut off” Hurricane Melissa?
A.Because the wind speeds were too high.
B.Because the outflow of air wasn’t good.
C.Because the winds changed little with height.
D.Because the sea surface temperature wasn’t high.
4.What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about?
A.What made Melissa so powerful.
B.What a hurricane looks like inside.
C.What the hurricane formation process is.
D.Why climate change influenced Melissa.
5.Which might be the writer’s opinion?
A.Humans should act on climate change right now.
B.These countries didn’t deal with Melissa very well.
C.Climate change has little to do with awful storms.
D.Only the people of Jamaica needed others’ help.

How to Get Along with Nature’s Temper
Nature is both a kind mother and a cold-blooded killer. To live in harmony with nature, we need to learn how to get along with its 1 (change) tempers. This not only keeps us safe 2 also helps us enjoy the beauty of nature.
Pay attention to the weather reports from different apps. Before going out, check them to know if there will be storms, heatwaves or cold winds. If the weather is bad, the 3 (report) will advise people to be careful. I learned this lesson last year. One afternoon, I 4 (walk) home from school when it started to rain heavily.
By following these 9 (suggest), we can get along well with nature’s temper and live a happy life with nature. Remember, nature is our friend, and we should always treat it with care. Nature makes us 10 (wonder). That is why it is wonderful.
【答案】
1.changing 2.but 3.reports 4.was walking 5.to hide 6.worse 7.has 8.their 9.suggestions 10.wonder

故填has。
