Montmartre As you approach this storybook village, you’re instantly taken aback by its charm. Live musicians and painters liven up the streets, while people enjoy meals on outdoor tables and watch the world go by. It was once the home of famous artists Vincent van Gogh, Pablo Picasso, and Claude Monet, a testament to the enduring inspiration of the atmosphere, both then and now. Le Marais The Marais was built on the former marshes (沼泽). The cobblestone streets are lined with classic restaurants as well as private 17th-century houses boasting striking architecture. Travel down Rue François Miron to see the oldest houses in Paris, and then walk through the Hôtel Salé, home to the Picasso Museum. Victor Hugo, the author of Les Misérables, owned a house in the Marais that has been finely preserved. La Mouzaïa The Mouzaïa neighborhood feels like a secret garden in Paris. Small homes line narrow roads; their walls wrapped in vines (藤蔓) and bursts of colors from a mixture of flowers. Once built for miners, it has blossomed into a community with old-fashioned village appeal. Walking through Mouzaïa Village feels like stepping into the countryside, even though it’s less than an hour’s walk from the crowds of the Louvre. La Campagne à Paris La Campagne à Paris reveals itself like a treasure just waiting to be discovered. Narrow paths curl around grand brick houses, their walls spilling over with climbing plants and leafy terraces (露天平台), softening every edge. Built to house the working class in the early 1900s, it has since transformed into a peaceful escape from the city. 21. What can visitors experience in Montmartre? A. Admiring climbing plants on brick walls. B. Touring preserved 17th-century houses. C. Watching live street performances. D. Exploring historic mining facilities. 22. Which neighborhood has the oldest residential buildings in Paris? A. Montmartre. B. Le Marais. C. La Mouzaïa. D. La Campagne à Paris. 23. What do La Mouzaïa and La Campagne à Paris have in common? A. They once accommodated workers. B. They inspired famous literary works. C. They feature the oldest houses in Paris. D. They house museums in honor of artists. B In 2008, at the age of 27, Mike suffered a life - changing injury in a snowmobile accident. Before that, his youth had been filled with intense racing sports. He had been participating in snowmobile races since 2002. The doctor said the only way he would survive was by amputating (截) his left leg above the knee. He wasn’t ready to give up his athletic career. Just weeks after his surgery, he was sneaking away for short joyrides on his snowmobile and knew he had to find a way to return to sports. And that’s when he started thinking about developing his own prosthetic (义肢的) leg to get back into riding. His first prosthetic leg was designed for everyday use and walking. It was not made to withstand the impact and movement of intense athletics and motorsports. So, Mike — without any technical engineering training — started to build his own prosthetic leg. After five weeks of working in his garage workstation, Mike made his own prosthetic leg, which used a mountain bike shock absorber and included other creative details. Not even a year later, he was placing second at the ESPN Summer X Games Adaptive Super - X with his own prosthetic invention. In 2010, he constituted his company to design and make lower limb prosthetic components for amputees looking to participate in high-intensity sports and activities. The goal originally was to create something to get back on his motocross bike and his snowmobile. And about a year later, he realized that there were so many other adaptive athletes that could employ the equipment he was developing. “I’ve always had two sides to my career — competing and building,” Mike said in a statement. “For years, I’ve pushed myself to be the best athlete I could be, while spending countless hours improving the equipment that makes that performance possible. As I step away from competition, I’m excited to take everything I’ve learned and apply it to helping the next generation of athletes go even further.” 24. What do we know about Mike before the accident? A. He had already lost his left leg. B. He had limited experience in racing. C. He was keen on competitive sports. D. He was devoted to prosthesis making. 25. Why did Mike decide to develop his own prosthetic leg? A. To fit in with intense racing sports. B. To compete as an abnormal athlete. C. To reduce the cost of a prosthetic leg. D. To help other athletes with disabilities. 26. What does the underlined word “constituted” mean in paragraph 4? A. Founded. B. Explored. C. Purchased. D. Exhibited. 27. What might Mike think of his building prosthetic legs? A. It is his only choice. B. It is a win-win choice. C. It pushes him too much. D. It is an inspiration for others. C Scientists looking to tackle our ongoing obesity crisis have made an important discovery: Intermittent (间歇的) calorie restriction leads to significant changes both in the gut (肠道) and the brain, which may open up new options for maintaining a healthy weight. Researchers from China studied 25 volunteers classed as obese over a period of 62 days, during which they took part in an intermittent energy restriction (IER) program, a method that involves careful control of calorie intake and eating little or no food on some days. Not only did the participants in the study lose weight — 7.6 kilograms or 7.8 percent of their body weight on average — but there was evidence of shifts in the activity of obesity-related regions of the brain, and in the makeup of gut bacteria (细菌). It’s not clear what causes these changes, or whether the gut is influencing the brain or the brain is influencing the gut. However, we do know that the gut and the brain are closely linked, so treating certain regions of the brain could be a way to control food intake. The changes in brain activity were in regions known to be important in the regulation of appetite and addiction — including the inferior frontal orbital gyrus. What’s more, the gut microbiome (微生物组) changes were linked to particular brain regions. More than a billion people worldwide are estimated to have obesity, which leads to an increased risk for a host of different health issues, from cancer to heart disease. Knowing more about how our brains and guts are dependent on each other could make a huge difference in effectively preventing and reducing obesity. “The next question to be answered is the precise mechanism by which the gut microbiome and the brain communicate in obese people, including those who are losing weight,” said Wang, a biomedical scientist from the Chinese Academy of Sciences. “What specific gut microbiome and brain regions are critical for successful weight loss and maintaining a healthy weight?” 28. What does the study find about intermittent calorie restriction? A. It influences brain microbiome. B. It works mainly by reducing appetite. C. It affects both the gut and the brain. D. It effectively reduces the gut bacteria. 29. What did the 62-day study reveal regarding the participants? A. They ate little food on most days. B. Their brain and gut activities changed. C. Their calorie intake increased greatly. D. They lost over 8% of their body weight. 30. What is Wang’s statement about? A. The choice of new research methods. B. The need to involve more researchers. C. The possible direction for further study. D. The potential application of the findings. 31. Which can be the best title for the text? A. The New Discovery Will Help End Obesity B. The Gut-Brain Link May Aid Weight Control C. The Gut-Brain Link May Reveal a Secret of Fat D. The Gut Microbiome Will Have a Hidden Effect D With their bright green eyes and slim bodies, gulper sharks are odd-looking, prehistoric creatures that used to be found worldwide in waters from 200 to 1,500 meters deep. But now, they face a crisis. Three quarters of the species are threatened with extinction, targeted for their liver oil, which is particularly rich in a chemical compound known as squalene (角鲨烯), commonly used in beauty products for its antioxidant and moisturizing (保湿) properties. New international trade protections, announced at the 20th conference of parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES), could turn the fate of these deepwater sharks around. Gulper sharks have been listed on CITES Appendix Ⅱ, which regulates trade of the species across international borders and improves monitoring, while endangered whale sharks are among those that have been uplisted to CITES Appendix Ⅰ, which bans all commercial trade of the species and their products. According to a 2024 study, nearly two-thirds of threatened deepwater sharks have been used in liver oil products. Gulper sharks are particularly prized because their liver oil contains over 70% squalene, the highest percentage of any shark family. As a result, populations of gulper sharks have dropped by more than 80% in some regions. This could be disastrous for gulper sharks, which mature late in life and have slow reproductive rates. Once their populations decline, it can take years for them to recover. By one scientific estimate, the dumb gulper shark is a species that has been severely overfished in Australia, and would take 86 years to recover just 25% of its original population size. Before today, despite there being more than 100 sharks and rays listed in CITES Appendix Ⅰ and Appendix Ⅱ, few were deep-water species. Luke Warwick, director of shark and ray conservation at the Wildlife Conservation Society, said, “Sharks are the second most endangered group of species on the planet, and many are running out of time… The latest decision could not have been more urgent.” 32. What has caused the sharp decline in gulper shark populations? A. Their prehistoric appearance. B. Their slow reproductive ability. C. The loss of deep-sea habitats. D. The rising demand for squalene. 33. What do we know about the new CITES decision? A. Gulper sharks face tighter control over international trade. B. International trade in gulper sharks is completely banned. C. Gulper sharks’ liver oil can no longer be used in products. D. Gulper sharks are better protected within national borders. 34. Why are the dumb gulper shark in Australia mentioned? A. To prove the achievement of protecting gulper sharks. B. To show it’s hard to rebuild gulper shark populations. C. To explain why gulper sharks have high squalene content. D. To present the similar situation of other deepwater sharks. 35. What is Luke Warwick’s attitude towards the new CITES decision? A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Dismissive. I did not start a daily gratitude jar because life was going great. I started it because my mind felt heavy, cluttered, and constantly focused on what was missing. Even when good things happened, they slipped by unnoticed. I wanted something simple that did not require deep reflection or perfect words. ____36____ Each day, I wrote down one thing I felt grateful for and placed it in a jar. That was it. There was no obligation to be profound. No forcing positivity. Over the next 30 days, something quiet began to shift. My outlook softened. My thinking slowed down. This practice did not change my circumstances, but it changed how my mind experienced them. ____37____ It is a simple container where you place short notes about things you feel grateful for each day. No long entries. There are no restrictions on the depth or significance of your entries. That simplicity is why I chose it. Traditional journaling felt like too much. I would overthink what to write or skip days entirely when my energy was low. ____38____ One sentence was enough. Sometimes just a phrase. What mattered was the act of noticing, not the wording. This practice works because it meets the brain where it is. Small actions are easier to repeat. ____39____ And consistency is what allows subtle mental shifts to build over time without feeling forced or overwhelming. I kept the process intentionally simple so I would not talk myself out of it. With repetition, this practice began shifting my emotional baseline. I felt calmer without trying to calm down. My nervous system stayed regulated longer during stressful moments. Over time, my mind became less reactive and more flexible. ____40____ A. Repetition creates consistency. B. Gratitude is not just an emotional idea. C. The gratitude jar removed that pressure. D. A gratitude jar is exactly what it sounds like. E. Over time, my mind began scanning the day differently. F. Life did not become easier, but my ability to handle it clearly improved. G. I was seeking a small daily action that I could commit to without any resistance. Many years ago, I was traveling in Ethiopia. She was amazing not because of any major achievements or honors. She was amazing because of the quiet intensity of her love for her husband, children, and grandchildren. Their needs came before her own. The one pleasure she allowed herself was her garden. It was there that she found her joy. Yet, even there, the flowers, herbs, and vegetables were not for her but for others. Mom would arrange roses and lilies for a friend’s wedding and sweeten our house with her favorite yellow and white daffodils (水仙花), until the day she had to leave her garden behind. She had been diagnosed with cancer and could no longer live alone. She came to live with me, my wife and our 7-year-old daughter. Between treatments, my mother would work in my garden, which, though not as spacious or inclusive of varietals as hers, became a source of comfort. She planted varieties on every exposed piece of earth she could find. Our house became a veritable botanical garden, the envy of the neighborhood. However, as winter came, my mother’s health continued to fail. One day, I returned from work to find she was slowly digging small holes in the garden and putting something into them. “What are you planting, Mom?” I asked. She smiled with a hint of mystery, “I left you something. You’ll know when you see it.” I didn’t think much of it at the time. After that planting, she was unable to do any of her gardening work. And then, one day, she was gone. In the following days, my family was absorbed in the seemingly endless details associated with her. There were tears, laughter and nostalgic (怀旧的) gatherings, during which no plants bloomed (开花) and my garden returned to bare earth. Weeks passed. The coolness of the winter gave way to the richness and warmth of spring. And then something amazing happened. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ With our attentive care, the green shoots (幼苗) revealed themselves. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高三英语素养训练 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? In a newspaper article, I just saw an influential company believes we’ll not be able to produce enough food starting this year. Sounds so scary. M: Then what should we do to handle this situation? W: I think there is a phenomenon that needs changing first. I saw a TV show about restaurants. A cook said they have to throw away the food left by the customers, which causes a large amount of waste. So we need to avoid ordering too much when eating out. M: I agree with you. Well, I remember a nonprofit organization is to improve farming technology. Farmers may produce more food but use fewer resources in the future. W: Technology is quite essential in improving our lives. M: You’re right. Now they are raising funds for the project on their website. I’m going to make a contribution. It sounds like a worthy cause. 18. What is the purpose of the group cake sale? A. To promote local bakeries. B. To raise funds for a charity. C. 21. C 22. B 23. 24. C 25. As I step away from competition, I’m excited to take everything I’ve learned and apply it to helping the next generation of athletes go even further.”(迈克在一份声明中表示:“我的职业生涯一直有着两个方面——竞争与建设。 C Scientists looking to tackle our ongoing obesity crisis have made an important discovery: Intermittent (间歇的) calorie restriction leads to significant changes both in the gut (肠道) and the brain, which may open up new options for maintaining a healthy weight. The Gut Microbiome Will Have a Hidden Effect 【答案】28. C 29. B 30. C 31. A. Critical. B. Doubtful. C. Supportive. D. Dismissive. D 33. A 34. B 35. 根据第一段中的“Three quarters of the species are threatened with extinction, targeted for their liver oil, which is particularly rich in a chemical compound known as squalene (角鲨烯), commonly used in beauty products for its antioxidant and moisturizing (保湿) properties.(四分之三的该物种濒临灭绝,它们因富含角鲨烯的肝油而遭到猎杀。 根据第二段中的“Gulper sharks have been listed on CITES Appendix Ⅱ, which regulates trade of the species across international borders and improves monitoring, while endangered whale sharks are among those that have been uplisted to CITES Appendix Ⅰ, which bans all commercial trade of the species and their products. 根据第三段中的“Once their populations decline, it can take years for them to recover. By one scientific estimate, the dumb gulper shark is a species that has been severely overfished in Australia, and would take 86 years to recover just 25% of its original population size.(一旦种群数量下降,它们往往需要数年时间才能恢复。 根据第四段中的“Sharks are the second most endangered group of species on the planet, and many are running out of time… The latest decision could not have been more urgent.(鲨鱼是地球上第二大濒危物种群体,许多物种岌岌可危…… I did not start a daily gratitude jar because life was going great. 36. G 37. D 38. C 39. A 40. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】参考范文: And then something amazing happened. One rainy morning, my daughter burst through the back door, her face flushed with excitement. “Daddy! Come look! The garden is full of green shoots!” I followed her outside. Green shoots emerged from the soil in every part of the garden. My daughter knelt down, touching one tenderly. “Grandma planted these, didn’t she?” she whispered. I nodded, unable to speak, as tears mingled with raindrops on my cheeks. My mother had been planting her parting gift on that cold winter day, knowing she wouldn’t be there to see it bloom. In the days that followed, we attended to them carefully, hoping they would grow well. With our attentive care, the green shoots(幼苗) revealed themselves. The first golden blossoms appeared on a warm morning — daffodils, my mother’s favorite flowers, nodding their cheerful heads in the sunlight. Soon the entire garden transformed into a sea of yellow and white, their bold, irresistible fragrance spilling from our house, our lawn and our garden, over the fence into the surrounding neighborhood. And then, I remembered my mother’s words, “I left you something. You’ll know when you see it.” She had planted them in the winter, knowing well that they would bloom in the spring. When she was gone, there was a final gift and love for her children and grandchildren. 词汇激活 行为类 ①跟随某人外出:follow sb. outside/step out behind sb./accompany sb. outdoors ②跪下:kneel down/get down on one’s knees ③精心照料某人:attend to sb. carefully/take good care of sb. 情绪类 ①激动地:with excitement/excitedly ②温柔地:tenderly/softly/gently 【点睛】【高分句型1】My mother had been planting her parting gift on that cold winter day, knowing she wouldn’t be there to see it bloom.
