People build houses of different styles. Like people, some birds also like to make their “houses” look special.
Bird nests are almost everywhere. People believe that birds make nests just for shelter. They protect a mother’s eggs and baby birds from the cold, wind and enemies. However, a team of scientists from the University of St Andrews in the UK looked more into bird nests. They studied white-browed sparrow weavers in the Kalahari Desert in Africa and found that these birds have different nest-building styles from each other.
Some of the bird families they saw made simple nests with no decorations. Others made nests with long openings to fly into. These openings can be 10 centimeters longer than those of simpler nests. This might not seem a lot to humans but for these small birds, it’s a big difference.
More importantly, the bird families work together to build them, and each bird has its own special job. Some birds are great at collecting materials, while others are good at building.
“Once they started, everybody followed, and now they have a tradition.” Mario Tello Ramos from the team told The New York Times. Younger birds watch and try to copy the older ones. This teamwork helps them learn the ways to build special nests.
18. What is the common use of bird nests?
A. To make trends. B. To save food.
C. To protect birds. D. To show birds’ building skills.
19. What did scientists find about the nests of white-browed sparrow weavers?
A. They have different building styles.
B. They are simpler than the nests of other birds.
C. All of them have colorful decorations.

20. How do white-browed sparrow weaver families build their nests?
A. They work at the same time. B. They do the same job together.
C. Each bird works alone on its own nest. D. They work together but play different roles.
21. What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A. The styles of nests change over time.
B. Teamwork helps young birds learn from the old ones.
C. Younger birds are more important in nest building.
D. Birds make a team to help each other build nests.

Over the holidays, lots of people will travel to different parts of the world with friends and family. A popular holiday activity is snorkeling with sea life in the ocean.
Snorkeling is the sport or activity of swimming on or near the water’s surface while using a snorkel to breathe and observe underwater life with a snorkel. The snorkel helps people breathe when they are looking down, so that they can better enjoy the sea life. Perfect places for snorkeling with sea life are warm seas with clear water and almost no waves.
For people who love sea life, snorkeling is a good chance to see amazing animals in their habitat (栖息地). Seeing these animals up close is a great way to call on people to care for and protect sea life and the environment (环境). Also, snorkeling offers people jobs. As snorkeling becomes more popular, more tour guides and boat drivers will be needed.
However, some people are against the idea of snorkeling with sea life. Even though animals are free to leave when people swim near them, visiting them could affect (影响) animals’ behavior (行为) and population numbers. According to a study, snorkeling tours can cause dolphin pods (海豚群) to leave their usual feeding areas. Also, people may get hurt when getting close to sea life. After all, wildlife in the sea is just that—wild.
What’s more, snorkeling with sea life may bring problems to the sea environment. For example, when getting too close to sea life, people may damage coral reefs (破坏珊瑚礁). They are important for the sea environment, because they offer food and habitat for sea life. Also, the boats that are used to take people to see sea life are likely to pollute the water.
So, is it OK to snorkel with sea life? It really depends on who you ask.
55. What is snorkeling?
_________________________________________________
56. Why are coral reefs important for the sea environment?

57. Would you like to go snorkeling with sea life? Why or why not?
