Once upon a time, there was a small village by the river. To protect themselves from floods (洪水), the villagers built a long and strong dike (大坝).
One day, an old farmer noticed many ant (蚂蚁) holes on the dike. He was very worried, so he told the villagers, “These ant holes might be dangerous. We should fix them.” But the villagers laughed at him. “The dike is so strong. A few ant holes can’t do any harm,” they said.
One night, a heavy rainstorm hit. The river rose quickly. Water ran through the ant holes, making the dike weaker and weaker. Suddenly, a part of the dike collapsed (坍塌)! The flood rushed into the village and destroyed houses. The villagers were shocked and sad.

A black bush-tailed monkey (黑尾猴) was born in a forest park in Qingyuan. This is another step forward in China’s efforts (努力) to protect endangered (濒危的) animals. Under the care of the protection team, the baby monkey is healthy and drinks 6 milliliters of milk per feeding.
The black bush-tailed monkey is one of the world’s most endangered species (物种). Because human activities destroyed their habitats (摧毁栖息地) and some people even captured them for their fur (皮毛) and meat, there are fewer than 250 of these monkeys left in the world. In China, they are only found in Qingyuan.
A month after birth, the baby monkey had to leave its mother for special reasons. To help with its normal growth, the care team began an artificial (人工) feeding program. They used different ways to keep it healthy.
Kan Tao, a park worker, said, “The baby monkey was very weak at first, but after two weeks, its weight increased (增加) slowly.” The baby monkey now weighs 229 grams and is fed six times a day. The forest park has successfully protected a population of over 58 animal species. Workers believe their experience caring for this monkey will help protect other endangered animals in the future.

This story tells us that small things can cause big problems. Just like in our daily lives, if we don’t correct small mistakes in our study, they may lead to big failures (失败) in exams. So we should always remember: little things matter!
