(原创) Astronomy is the oldest science known to man. Thousands of years ago, man looked at the stars and wondered about the heavens. But man was limited by what he could see with his eyes alone.
The Greeks studied astronomy over 2,000 years ago. They could see the size, colour and brightness of a star. They could see its place in the sky. They watched the stars move as the seasons changed. But the Greeks had no tools to help themselves study the heavens.
Each new tool added to the field of astronomy helped man reach out into space. They did not know that the planet called Saturn (土星) had rings around it. Their sight was so limited that they could not see all the planets. In the early 1700s, people thought there were only six planets. Neptune (海王星), the last of eight planets to be discovered, was not seen until 1846.
Before the spectroscope (分光镜), man did not know what kind of gases was in the sun or other stars. Without the radio telescope, we didn't know that radio noises came from far out in space.
Today, astronomy is a growing science. We had learned more in the last fifty years than in the whole history of astronomy.
( )1.What could the ancient Greeks do when studying astronomy over 2,000 years ago?(原创题)
A . They could measure the distance of stars.
B. They could see the gases in the sun.
C. They could use a telescope to watch the heavens.
D. They could observe the stars move as the seasons changed.
( )2. When was the planet Neptune discovered?(原创题)
A. Over 2,000 years ago B. In the early 1700s
C. In 1846 D. In the last fifty years
( ) 3.What is the main idea of passage?(原创题)
A .The history and development of astronomy. B.The contributions of Greek astronomers.
C. The importance of the radio telescope. D. The process of discovering planets.
答案解析
语篇导读 本文是一篇说明文,讲述天文学的发展历程。
1. D 细节理解 文中第二段提到“They watched the stars move as the seasons changed”可知,当时古希腊人能做到的是观测星星随着季节的变化而移动。
故选A。

Some experts suggest that humanity cannot survive far into the future if we stay on Earth. If some disasters were to wipe out life on Earth, other worlds could carry on our civilisation. For example, if a large asteroid (小行星) struck Earth, a settlement on Mars would be unaffected.
A future off Earth is not only about avoiding disasters. More homes for humanity would also mean more opportunities for innovation. What if when we go to Mars, we don't have rubbish? Resources would be so scarce on Mars that the people living there would have to find creative ways to reuse their waste. These innovations could then help solve the rubbish problem here on Earth. As we expand our civilisation into space, we must make sure that we avoid repeating humanity's past mistakes. Some world leaders pursue space as a way to increase their power and status. The explorers who colonised various parts of Earth during the 15th to 19th centuries had similar goals.
As far as we know, nothing today lives on the Moon or Mars. But does that make it OK for one person or group to decide to build a base? All of humanity should have a say in how we explore space. Some cultures see the Moon as a sacred (神圣的) place that shouldn't be changed. Their voices matter. So do the voices of scientists, explorers, and artists. Your voice matters, too. So think before you act.
Scientists point out that our future off Earth is not just about what kind of habitat we'll build, or what type of spaceship we'll need.“How do we want to live together?” they ask.“How can we live in ways that allow everyone to thrive?” These types of questions are important to ask. We will need to answer them whether we stay on Earth or journey out into the distant reaches of our solar system and beyond.
( )4 What does the underlined phrase “wipe out” mean in paragraph 1?
A. Change B. Consume C. Destroy D. Reduce
( )5 What is one potential benefit for building settlements on other planets?
A. To give world leaders more power and higher status.
B. To find innovative methods of reusing waste on Earth.
C. To colonise various parts of the world for resources.
D. To prevent natural disasters from happening on Earth.
( )6 According to paragraph 3, what is a focus regarding building a base on the Moon or Mars?
A. The certainty of building a base in space.
B. The risk of disastrous strikes by large asteroids.
C. The challenge of living in a new habitat off Earth.
D. The various opinions on settling on other planets.
( )7 What is the best title for the passage?
A. Should Humanity Build Settlements off Earth?
B. How Can We Solve Earth's Environmental Problems?
C. How Can We Avoid the Dangers of Settling on Other Planets?
D. Should World Leaders Be Criticised for Their Space-related Goals?
语篇导读 本文是一篇议论文。本文围绕人类是否应该在地球之外建立定居点展开讨论,既提到了在地球之外建立定居点的好处,也提到了相关的担忧。
4.C 词义猜测题。根据画线词后的例子“For example, if a large asteroid struck Earth, a settlement on Mars would be unaffected.”
根据第二段中的“Resources would be so scarce on Mars that the people living there would have to find creative ways to reuse their waste. These innovations could then help solve the rubbish problem here on Earth.”可知,在其他星球建立定居点可能会找到地球上废物再利用的创新方法。故选B项
6.D 推理判断题。根据第三段中的“All of humanity should have a say in how we explore… voice matters, too. So think before you act.”可知,关于在月球或火星上建立基地,人类持有不同的意见。故选D项。
7.A 主旨大意题。根据第一段中的“Some experts suggest that humanity cannot survive far into the future if we stay on Earth. If some disasters were to wipe out life on Earth, other worlds could carry on our civilisation.”以及全文内容可知,文章围绕人类是否应该在地球之外建立定居点展开讨论,既提到了在地球之外建立定居点的好处,也提到了相关的担忧,因此A项(人类应该在地球之外建立定居点吗?)最适合作文章标题。故选A项。

For decades, Jean Moffatt has been reaching out over the airwaves. As an amateur (业余的) radio operator, Moffatt has connected with people worldwide. “By sending signals to satellites, I've talked to people from the Arctic to the Antarctic,” Moffatt said. And a few years ago, Moffatt got to go even further at the Ontario Science Centre.
An amateur radio connection allowed the senior and students to speak with Commander Luca aboard the International Space Station. By connection, Moffatt told the astronaut she was very excited, admitting that this was an unrealised dream she had for many years. Then Moffatt asked if Luca could keep the space station clean and tidy, adding that as a “mature woman” she had done lots of cleaning in her life. When Moffatt was a young girl, she moved to Toronto with her family, hoping there would be
chances for a girl interested in science. She desperately wanted to go to university, but moving house placed a significant burden on their finances. Not discouraged, she took a course in amateur radio, then a popular technology, and shortly after she got her licence. After retiring, Moffatt started volunteering at the Ontario Science Centre. With her radio licence, she helped set up the centre's first radio shack.
The idea of connecting with the International Space Station came just after Moffatt's 36th birthday. Finally after 60 years with the help of amateur radio operators and NASA, Moffatt made her connection. While the connection wasn't very clear, she was moved to tears, telling those who had gathered to watch
that it was the “highlight” of her life.
Moffatt plans to keep volunteering at the centre, introducing younger people to the older form of technology, and to keep speaking to anyone who can pick up her signal. “It's a technology even older than me and I love amateur radio,” Moffatt added.
( )8. What can we learn about Moffatt from the first two paragraphs?
A. She was an environmentalist.
B. She achieved a lifetime goal.
C. She dreamed to work in a space station.
D. She would turn a professional radio operator.
( )9. Why did Moffatt and her family move to Toronto?
A. To get a radio licence. B. To seek better opportunities.
C. To attend a radio school. D. To survive financial troubles.
( )10. What does Moffatt plan to do further?
A. To build new radio communication links. B. To develop new scientific abilities.
C. To start her radio shack business. D. To continue her passion for radio.
( )11. Which of the following can best describe Moffatt?
A. Creative and ambitious. B. Outspoken and energetic.
C. Passionate and determined. D. Humorous and generous

Daken Kramer may only be 11 years old and it was his last year at Thomas Ultican Elementary(TUE). Knowing that TUE has a high number of students who come from economically challenged homes, he decided to deal with the problem head-on.
According to the Blue Springs School District, a lunch costs $2.55 — with a 40-cent reduction for students in need. But even with the reduction, it is still too big an economic burden(负担) for some families. So, wanting to reduce their stress, he started a fundraiser called Daken Feeds TUE to clear the lunch debt(债务).
Daken spread the word on social media and the online fundraiser was spreading to other states. It turned out that he’s not just a really kind kid, he’s a pretty persuasive salesperson as well. Within two weeks, Daken’s fundraiser more than doubled his original goal. He paid off all the debt at his school and provided nearly $4,000 to reduce the meal debt at Blue Springs High School.
Daken’s actions inspired the school to establish an award in Daken’s honor to be given to future fifth graders who follow his lead and struggle to make a difference. His teacher, Kristi Haley, announced the “Daken Kramer Legacy Award” at his grade 5 graduation and Daken was taken aback. “I didn’t have the faintest idea,” he said. He added it felt good to hear about the award.
Daken’s fundraiser made a difference in his community but it also showed a larger issue — the problem with the lunch debt. Blue Springs School District spokesperson, Katie Woolf, told the media that the meal debt totals more than $235,000 in her district alone. The district includes 20 schools with varying levels of debt. And the meal debt is reaching unprecedented(前所未有的) heights across the United States. A recent survey from the School Nutrition Association found the meal debt in about one-fifth of US school districts nationwide ranged from $10 to approximately $1 million. Hoping to bring wider attention to the issue of the meal debt, Daken and his teachers are now working with a Missouri state representative to see if they can take their efforts to the next level.
( )12.Why did Daken start Daken Feeds TUE?
A. To raise money for new school supplies.
B. To become an online star to make a fortune.
C. To organize a school event for his classmates.
D. To help some students with the lunch debt at TUE.
( )13.What was people’s response to Daken’s fundraiser?
A. They backed it up. B. They misunderstood it.
C. They were amazed at it. D. They volunteered for it.
( )14.How did Daken feel about the award?
A. Grateful. B. Curious. C. Surprised. D. Confused.
( )15.Why are the data listed in the last paragraph?
A. To explain the reasons for the lunch debt.
B. To stress the seriousness of the lunch debt.
C. To praise Daken’s efforts for the lunch debt.
D. To compare the lunch debt between schools.

参考答案
Dear Tom,
I know your view on space exploration, which I respect, yet disagree. It’s far more important than you imagine.
It’s space technology that usually drives advances in other fields, which benefits us all. With satellites in orbit, telecommunications are now available worldwide. Besides, space technology represents a country’s scientific and technological level. Last but not least, were we to abandon space exploration, we would lose an important way of thinking about humanity’s future.
In closing, exploring space is so important that we should continue this great project.
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua
第二节 (满分25分)

Henry Adams was a young American businessman. One day, he was sailing out of the bay on a small boat when he was suddenly carried out to sea by a strong wind. Luckily, he was spotted and rescued by a ship heading for London. As a result, he landed in London, homeless and hungry, with no money on him at all.
Dressed in ragged clothes, he wandered on the streets of London, feeling extremely upset. Just at that moment, he was called into a large house by two wealthy brothers, Roderick and Oliver. They made a secret bet on Henry. The brothers explained that they would give him an envelope with something valuable inside, but he must not open it until two o’clock in the afternoon. They also told him not to ask any questions about it.
With great doubt, Henry took the envelope and left the house. By now, it was nearly lunchtime and his stomach was growling with hunger. He walked into a small, cheap restaurant, hoping to get something to eat. The moment the owner and the waiter saw his untidy appearance, they looked down upon him coldly. They served him a simple meal quickly and showed their impatience from time to time, clearly thinking he was a poor man who could hardly pay for the food.
Henry ate his meal in a hurry, feeling quite embarrassed. He kept looking at his watch, counting down the minutes until two o’clock. Finally, the long-awaited moment arrived. He took a deep breath, stood up and walked towards the counter, ready to open the envelope and pay for his meal.

参考范文
As soon as Henry opened the envelope and took out the note, everyone in the restaurant was frozen. Henry himself stood there dumbfounded, staring at the million-pound bank note in his hand, unable to believe his eyes. Never in his life had he seen such a large bank note. His hands trembled slightly, and he didn’t know how to pay with such a huge note. The noisy restaurant fell into dead silence at once. All the customers turned their heads, their eyes fixed on the extraordinary note, with expressions of surprise and curiosity on their faces.
The owner’s face turned pale instantly and he rushed over to Henry in a flash. He bowed deeply to Henry, his voice full of fear and regret. He kept saying sorry for his cold and rude attitude just now, saying the meal was totally free and Henry could eat here whenever he wanted without paying a penny. The waiter, who had been impatient just now, lowered his head in great shame, not daring to look Henry in the eye. Henry was amazed at their sudden change, realizing deeply how differently people treated others based on money in that society.

B
C
