Often called the smartest bird in the world, the grey parrot catches people’s eye because of its soft feathers and curious eyes. However, what truly makes it stand out is its excellent memory and amazing learning ability.
One of these parrots’ most unbelievable talents is mimicking human voices. They can learn hundreds of words and also make their tones (语调) and emotions (情感) sound like those of humans. Some pet owners say that their grey parrots can even sing short songs or repeat daily phrases like“good morning” at the right time of day. Scientists have even studied them to learn about their problem-solving skills and learning abilities.
The most famous example is that a parrot named Alex could count, recognize colors, and answer simple questions. All of these show that these birds understand far more than once believed.
Africa is the home of grey parrots. They have long been celebrated in old African stories. Among the Yoruba people, grey parrots are related to royalty (皇室) and spiritual messages. They are important because their feathers are often used in important ceremonies (仪式) to communicate with nature.
In Ashanti traditions, the parrots serve as a means of sending messages between real life and the world of imagination. It’s a sign of great cultural respect.
Today, though still respected in stories and traditions, grey parrots face many problems and dangers. Their living space is becoming smaller and smaller. And the illegal trade has caused their numbers in the wild to drop greatly. While they remain good friends or family members in homes worldwide, these smart birds are in great need of protection to save their future.

A. Its role in African traditions. B. Its soft feathers and curious eyes.

D. Because they could send messages between different groups of people.

If you’re nearsighted, you can see close things clearly, but things far away look blurry (模糊的). This is a problem that is becoming more common in kids around the world. Research shows that spending a couple of hours outside every day can help stop or slow down nearsightedness, although scientists are not sure why. One possible reason is that your eyes see more changes in light and more different shapes outside instead of just smooth, flat shapes. This natural environment gives your eyes a kind of exercise. It serves as an exercise for your eyes, which helps them stay healthy as you grow.
To test this idea, scientists in China decorated (装饰) indoor classrooms to look like woodlands. They covered walls and desks with pictures of trees and bushes (灌木). They painted the ceiling (天花板) to look like the sky. They tried to create as much visual stimulation (视觉刺激) for the eyes to see as students would find outdoors.
For one year, about 250 nine-year-olds had their lessons in the woodland classrooms, while another 250 were taught in regular classrooms with white walls. At the end of the year, the scientists tested the children’s vision (视力) and found that the kids in the woodland classrooms showed fewer signs of nearsightedness. However, being in the decorated classrooms did not help kids who were already nearsighted. Experts say that decorating classrooms cannot replace spending time outdoors, but it might be better than nothing.
68. Why might spending time outside be good for our eyes?
A. Because the air is cleaner outside. B. Because the sun makes our eyes stronger.
C. Because there are fewer things to look at. D. Because our eyes can see more changes and shapes.
69. What can we know about the woodland classroom?
A. It was built outside. B. It had strong light.
C. It had white walls. D. It had tree pictures on walls.
70. How many children took part in the experiment described in the passage?
A. Around 250. B. Around 500.
C. Around 750. D. Around 1000.
71. What’s the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. Spending time outdoors is not important for eye health.
B. Decorated classrooms can help but cannot replace the outdoor activities.
C. Decorating classrooms is the best way to prevent nearsightedness.
D. Experts suggest that classrooms should be decorated like woodlands.
72. Where is the passage most probably from?

Hari Budha Magar, a former soldier from Nepal, reached the top of Mount Vinson in Antarctica in January 2026. He successfully completed the “seven summits” challenge. He has climbed the highest mountain on each of the world’s seven continents (洲). Magar, aged 46, also set a record as the first person with both legs cut off above the knee to complete this challenge.
Magar was born into a poor family in Nepal. He joined the British Army at age 19. In 2010, while in Afghanistan, he lost both legs in an explosion (爆炸). After that, Magar found it hard to get back to normal life. He got artificial (人工的) legs and slowly learned to walk again. Later, he decided to follow his childhood dream of becoming a mountain climber.
Magar trained for five years. He also had to ask experts to make special artificial legs and other equipment for him to climb in very difficult conditions on the world’s highest mountains. In 2019, he reached the top of Mount Blanc in Europe. Then he climbed Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa, Mount Qomolangma in Asia, Mount McKinley in North America, Mount Aconcagua in South America, and Mount Puncak Jaya in Oceania. They were all extremely challenging, but he successfully reached every summit.
Along the way, Magar met many challenges. He was not allowed to climb Mount Qomolangma at first because of his disability. He only got permission after a legal (合法的) fight. Now he wants to help people understand more about disabilities. He also plans to give the money he raised from the seven summits challenge to groups that help veterans (老兵). “If you have a dream and give it your all and never give up, you can achieve anything,” he said.
58. What made Magar’s “seven summits” challenge special?

A. A health magazine. B. A sports magazine.
C. A travel guide. D. A computer magazine.

【答案】[普通范文]
Keep Fit
Regular exercise helps keep fit. My favorite way of exercising is skipping rope. I choose it for three reasons. First, it’s easy to start. I can skip anywhere, whether at home or in the park. Second, it makes me strong and happy. Every time I skip, I feel full of energy and happiness. Third, it helps me do better in my studies by relaxing my mind.
Here is my advice for beginners. Start with 5 minutes a day. Use any rope you have. Skip with your friends to make it fun. Remember, keeping fit is not hard-just move your body!
[高阶范文]
Keep Fit
Regular exercise helps keep fit. Playing badminton is my favorite way to stay healthy. I have three reasons to explain why I choose it.
To begin with, it improves my physical health. With regular practice, I become more active than before. Secondly, it’s a perfect sport which I can always play with my father or friends, and it brings us closer. More importantly, it teaches me to keep trying.
If you’d like to give it a try, here’s my advice. Start with light training twice a week. Watch videos to learn basic skills. Don’t care too much about winning. Instead, you should just enjoy the exercise. What matters is being patient and keeping going. After all, getting fit takes time, not speed.
