Every Friday afternoon and Saturday, she helps nurses look after patients — like taking temperature, giving medicine and writing down patients’ information. “It’s different from class,” Zhang Li says. “In the hospital, I use what I learned. I also learn to talk with patients and their families.”
Nurse Wang, her leader, likes her very much. “Zhang Li works hard and is careful. She learns fast and can do simple tasks alone. Many patients like her because she is kind.”
Mr. Liu, the school headmaster, says the program helps vocational students a lot. “Vocational schools teach practical skills. This program helps students use what they learn, and they don’t worry about jobs so much. Hospitals also find good workers,” he says. Zhang Li hopes to work in the People’s Hospital after graduation. “I know I need to learn more, but I won’t give up,” she says.
