Red is one of the most joyful colors in Chinese culture. It stands for good luck, celebration, warmth, and love for our country, so it is widely used in daily life.
During the Spring Festival, red is everywhere. People hang red lanterns and put up Spring Festival couplets(对联). Children receive red envelopes (红包) with lucky money. These red things make homes and streets look bright and full of joy.
Red also plays an important role at weddings (婚礼). Families put up red “囍” characters on doors to send good wishes to the new couple. When someone does well and is praised, they may wear big red flowers to show honor.
Red is the main color of China’s national flag. In Chinese, we say someone has a“red heart” to express their loyal (忠诚的) heart and true love for China.
Besides its cultural meaning, red is also chosen for a practical reason. Red light has the longest wavelength (波长). In the air, it spreads out less than some other colors, so it can be seen more easily from far away. That is why red is often used for signs and warning lights.
We also have sayings like“kāiménhóng” for a good start and “mǎntánghóng” for full success. Dear students, I hope you will do well and get “mǎntánghóng” in the test!

22. People wear big red flowers at weddings to show they are newly married.

Hu Sha, as a doctor, was chosen as a candidate (候选人) for “China’s Good Doctors and Good Nurses” in 2025. She served with the 20th and 21st Chinese medical teams in Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe, she helped run the China- Zimbabwe Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Center. At first, some local people were not sure about TCM.
She started medical services there for children with cerebral palsy Many of these children didn’t have good motor function or clear speech. Hu Sha offered free treatment, including acupuncture (针灸) and simple exercises. She also used simple TCM tools, such as cupping jars (火罐), as part of her treatment. After weeks or months of treatment, some children could turn over, sit up, or speak simple words. These improvements were small, but they meant a lot to the children’s families. Many parents said they finally saw hope. When they saw their children’s progress, they began to believe in these TCM methods.
Gradually, local people called her “Dr. Chipo” in their language. Their trust in TCM grew deeper, and they were deeply thankful for the help TCM brought to their families. For them, Hu Sha was a gift that China had brought to the people of Zimbabwe. The name showed their respect and thanks because they saw her patience, care, and hard work.
Hu Sha also shared TCM culture with local people. She organized activities to introduce TCM knowledge and taught local doctors and nurses some basic TCM skills. She also introduced Chinese culture to local students.

When you walk in a forest or a park, you may see fallen leaves and dry sticks everywhere. Scientists call these things natural debris (残骸), which also includes dead trees and other plant parts. Though many people think these things are useless waste in nature, they are very important for keeping ecosystems balanced.
Natural debris helps recycle nutrients (营养物). When it falls to the ground, it starts to break down because of living things like microorganisms (微生物) and insects. These living things turn complex organic materials (复杂有机物质) into simpler ones. They set free nutrients into the soil. This process is very important for keeping the soil rich.
Natural debris provides homes and food for wild animals. From small insects to bigger animals, many living things depend on debris for places to live and produce their babies. And they also depend on organic materials that break down for food. This forms a good food chain that keeps many kinds of living things alive.
Another important effect of natural debris is that it can control water movement and help the ground hold more water. It works like a wall to reduce soil loss. Fallen leaves and sticks slow down water on land, so the ground can take in more water. By reducing soil loss, natural debris helps keep riverbanks and riverbeds in good condition.
However, human activities harm this balance. When people clear forests for farming or building cities, they take away important materials that form natural debris. This causes weaker nutrient recycling, poorer water control, fewer living places for wild animals, and more CO₂ emissions(排放) into the air.
Natural debris is an important part of our lives, so we should protect forests and reuse natural debris. For example, we can collect fallen leaves in parks to make nutrient-rich soil for plants. In this way, we can keep ecosystems healthy.
36. Which of the following is natural debris?

c. Helping the ground hold more water.
d. Providing places and food for wild animals.

A. To tell people to protect water.

11. A 12. C 13. B 14. A 15. C 16. D 17. B 18. B 19. A 20. C
根据上文“I couldn’t find my favorite coat”和下文“hold all my things”,此处需表达“装不下所有东西”的原因,“too…to…”
根据前句“She didn't blame me”和后句“she gave me some useful advice”,前后为转折替代关系,应用instead,表示 “相反”。
根据上下文“sort my clothes carefully”和“the ones that were too small for me”,此处需表达整理衣物时对不合身衣服的处理方式。 put up“张贴”、turn on“打开”、look after“照顾”均与 “处理衣物” 无关。
根据上文“sort my clothes carefully”和“After finishing this first step”,此处需体现整理后的变化,应用tidier,表示 “更整洁的”。
根据上文“use small boxes to keep my T-shirts in order”和“I could see each piece clearly”,应用taking,构成“taking everything out”,表示“不用把所有东西都拿出来”。
根据上文“make good use of”和下午“above the hanging area”,此处需表达可利用的对象。
根据下文“In the first week...In the second week...the next two weeks”,可知记录的时间是四周,应用four。
根据“I kept the good habit in the next two weeks”和“things became much easier”可知,空格前后为顺承因果关系,应用and。
固定搭配“make a big difference to”,表示“对…… 产生很大影响”,应用difference。wish“愿望”、problem“问题”、mistake“错误”均无法与“make a big…to”构成固定搭配。

As the saying goes, “Communication is a bridge.” I’ve learned that this bridge helps a team work better and feel closer.
Last month, my group had to make a short video for the school magazine but couldn’t agree on a topic. Two members argued loudly. To calm things down, we agreed to take turns speaking without interruption. We wrote down key points, chose the best idea together, and divided tasks clearly. Then everyone knew their role, and we helped each other while filming. In the end, our team worked smoothly.
This experience taught me that communication bridges different ideas. By listening carefully and speaking clearly, we can work as a team and reach our goal faster.
