Comfort Zone is a state of mind where we feel no stress and everything is easy. However, stepping into the learning zone can help to bring out the best in us. Here are the reasons.
Challenging ourselves can help us do our best. Stepping outside our comfort zone is important to personal development. How can we improve if we only do the same old things every day? We should try something that we may not do well at first.
▲ As children, we’re natural risk takers who love to try new things and explore the world. That’s why we grow so fast. But as we get older and experience failure, we start trying fewer new things. We miss many opportunities and pay a heavy price because we are afraid to fail. There is no learning without facing some difficulties.
Facing new challenges can help us grow better. Our comfort zones seem to become smaller as we get older — but if we can keep expanding them, we will see a more wonderful world. As we step into the learning zone, we will slowly get better at new skills. Then these skills will become part of our comfort zone. A study shows that learning new skills can keep our brains sharp as we get older.
However, do not push ourselves too hard. Have you heard of “Yerkes-Dodson Law (定律)”? It means the more stress we have, the better performance will be — but only to a certain point. If the level of stress becomes too high, our performance will go down. When stress becomes too great for us to deal with, we enter the danger zone.
51. What’s the advantage of stepping into the learning zone?
A. Helping us have the least stress.
B. Helping us get into Comfort Zone.
C. Helping us bring out the best in us.
D. Helping us get out of Danger Zone.
52. Which sentence is the best for “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 3?
A. Trying new things is difficult.
B. Taking risks is what helps us grow.
C. Facing stress can help us take a risk.
D. Learning without difficulty can push us far.
53. What does the underlined word “expanding” in Paragraph 4 mean in English?
A. Expecting. B. Reducing. C. Discovering. D. Enlarging.
54. Which picture can describe “Yerkes-Dodson Law”?
A. B. C. D.
55. Which can be the best title for the passage?
A. What Is Comfort Zone B. Step Out of Comfort Zone to Grow
C. How to Deal with Our Stress D. The Importance of Learning New Skills
