On November 25, 2025, China’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism introduced the mascot (吉祥物) for the 2026 “Happy Chinese New Year” program—the auspicious horse, or Jixiangma in Chinese. The mascot and its cultural products were created for the 2026 Spring Festival to make the celebrations around the world more enjoyable.
The mascot was designed by a team from the Central Academy of Fine Arts. It draws inspiration from the famous ancient artwork “Galloping Horse Treading on a Flying Swallow” from the Eastern Han Dynasty. Guided by scientific advice, the team chose the Zhada three-toed horse, a horse from ancient times, as the model for the mascot. The main color of the horse is Chinese red. Its mane (鬃毛) borrows the look of the famous five-color horses of the Tang Dynasty. It also has traditional patterns like auspicious clouds and ruyi (a symbol of good luck). All these bring out the warm and happy feeling of Chinese New Year.
“The horse is loved across cultures in the world. We hope this mascot will help people in other countries feel a stronger connection to Chinese New Year, Chinese culture, and especially the zodiac (生肖) tradition,” said Lin Cunzhen, head of the team.
Started in 2001, the “Happy Chinese New Year” program has become a cultural brand around the world. Since 2023, it has introduced a mascot each year, themed around the Chinese zodiac animal, to share Chinese culture with the world. Previous (以前的) zodiac mascots, including the auspicious rabbit, auspicious dragon, and auspicious snake, have all received wide acclaim both in China and abroad, winning many likes and shares on social media.
29.Why was the auspicious horse created?
A.To encourage travel around the world. B.To draw attention to Chinese horses.
C.To celebrate the 2026 Spring Festival. D.To study China’s cultural industry.
30.What is the second paragraph mainly about?
A.The importance of horses in China.
B.The introduction to the auspicious horse.
C.The symbols of Chinese New Year.
D.The kinds of horses in Chinese history.
31.What does the underlined word “acclaim” probably mean?
A.Surprise. B.Warning. C.Praise. D.Discussion.
32.What is the best title for the passage?
A.The development of Chinese zodiac culture
B.Program connects young hearts across cultures
C.China’s Spring Festival celebrated around the world
D.Mascot for the 2026 “Happy Chinese New Year” celebration

How do you know you are you? Have you ever looked in a mirror and known the person looking back is you? That is self-awareness, a key sign of cleverness. Most animals, however, do not have this ability. A dog will most likely bark at its own reflection, and a cat may attack the mirror — both mistaking the image (镜像) for another animal. In one famous test, known as the “mirror test”, scientists painted two marks on an Asian elephant’s head. Mark A could be seen in the mirror, while Mark B could not. When the elephant looked in the mirror, it touched only Mark A on its own head again and again. Only a few other animals, such as great apes and dolphins, have shown this ability.
That is not all. We all know the saying: “An elephant never forgets.” In the wild, elephants keep track of up to thirty family members across large areas. They remember where friends are, where water hides and where danger waits—all key to helping their whole family survive. In one study, Asian elephants remembered tasks they had learnt eight years earlier without practice in between. Another study found that elephants were able to recognise their mother’s smell after nearly 30 years apart.
In a 2011 study, scientists made a sliding (可滑动的) table with one rope through it. Two elephants had to pull the rope at the same time to get their own bowl of corn. If one elephant pulled before the other, the rope slipped out and no one could get the food. After many tries, the elephants learnt to wait for their partners. Then the scientists made it harder by letting the elephants out at different times. Still, the elephants managed to wait for each other. Most impressively, when the rope was placed out of reach for one elephant, the other elephant gave up on the task and didn’t even try to pull.
With all these qualities, it is no wonder elephants are near the top of nature’s cleverest animals. Over the years, researchers have found creative ways to explore elephant minds. The more we learn about these incredible animals, the more we realize how much we share with them and how much we still have to discover.
33.What did the “mirror test” show about the Asian elephant?
A.It mistook its image for another animal. B.It disliked having marks on its head.
C.It could recognise itself in the mirror. D.It passed the test like most animals did.
34.What does paragraph 2 mainly tell us about elephants?
A.They have a very good memory. B.They have a great sense of smell.
C.They are good at learning new tasks. D.They like to live in big family groups.
35.What do we know about the elephant who gave up on the task in the 2011 study?
A.It lost interest in the food. B.It was tired of the waiting.
C.It knew a partner was needed. D.It preferred pulling the rope alone.
36.What is the main purpose of the passage?
A.To compare elephants with other animals.
B.To explain reasons to study animal minds.
C.To suggest ways to help elephants survive.
D.To introduce studies on elephants’ cleverness.

Yan Hongsen, who is known as “rocket boy”, is a 13-year-old student in Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province.
He has been a big fan of space science since he was taken by his father to see a rocket. The experience completely inspired his love for rockets. He has been learning about them ever since and even got the chance to give his classmates a lesson about space science at an opening ceremony for the school.
During the summer break in 2022, Yan got popular online after his father posted a video in which he pointed out that a rocket was wrongly named in an educational video shown to visitors at a planetarium (天文馆) in Lhasa, Xizang. Eco-gaming combines mobile gaming with real-world environmental actions. Players earn points and rewards by completing tasks like recycling bottles, using reusable bags, or walking instead of driving. Apps like “EcoHero” and “GreenQuest” have become increasingly popular among young people.
The idea started in Sweden in 2019 when a group of university students created an app to motivate their classmates to recycle more. Within six months, recycling rates on campus increased by 35%. The success attracted attention from other countries, and similar apps soon appeared in Germany, Japan, and Canada.
How does it work? Users download the app and choose environmental challenges. They then take photos as proof of completing tasks, such as picking up litter or using a reusable water bottle. The app uses AI to verify the photos and awards points. Points can be exchanged for discounts at eco-friendly stores or donations to environmental charities.
“I used to never think about my environmental impact,” says Tom Zhang, a 16-year-old user from Beijing. “But now I compete with my friends to see who can earn more ‘green points’. It’s actually fun to help the planet!”
Experts believe eco-gaming has great potential. It makes environmental action feel less like a duty and more like a game. When people enjoy doing something, they’re more likely to continue doing it.
64.Where did the idea of eco-gaming start?

D.The kinds of horses in Chinese history.

A.Surprise. B.Warning. C.Praise. D.Discussion.
32.What is the best title for the passage?

C

六、阅读下面短文,用英语回答短文后的问题。(共3小题;64题2分,65题2分,66题3分,满分7分)
Do you know that your smartphone can help you become more environmentally friendly? A new trend called “eco-gaming” is encouraging people to make green choices while having fun.
_____________________________________________________________
65.How do users prove that they have completed environmental tasks?
_____________________________________________________________
66.Do you think eco-gaming is a good way to encourage environmental action? Why or why not?
_____________________________________________________________
【答案】64.The idea of eco-gaming started in Sweden.
65.Users take photos as proof of completing tasks, and the app uses AI to verify the photos.
66.Yes, I think so. Because it makes environmental action fun and competitive, encouraging people to develop good habits. / No, I don't think so. Because people might only do it for points rather than truly caring about the environment.
64.原文第三段明确指出“The idea started in Sweden in 2019 when a group of university students created an app to motivate their classmates to recycle more.”这个想法始于2019年的瑞典,当时一群大学生创建了一款应用程序,激励同学多回收垃圾。因此,生态游戏的理念起源于瑞典。
65.原文第四段详细说明了操作方式:“Users download the app and choose environmental challenges. They then take photos as proof of completing tasks...The app uses AI to verify the photos and awards points.”
原文第五段用户Tom Zhang提到“I compete with my friends to see who can earn more ‘green points’. It’s actually fun to help the planet!”我和朋友比赛谁赚的“绿色积分”更多,帮助地球其实很有趣!第六段专家认为“It makes environmental action feel less like a duty and more like a game. When people enjoy doing something, they’re more likely to continue doing it.”

B.Program connects young hearts across cultures
C.China’s Spring Festival celebrated around the world

Do you know that your smartphone can help you become more environmentally friendly? A new trend called “eco-gaming” is encouraging people to make green choices while having fun.
