A kite is one of the oldest toys, and it’s very simple to make. No one knows who flew the first kite. It was probably someone in China or perhaps Indonesia. Indonesian fishermen hung fishhooks (鱼钩) on kites and sent them out to the sea to catch fish. Starting 2000 years ago, Chinese farmers flew kites to welcome the New Year and bring good luck to Earth.
In China, people also used kites during wartime. One Chinese story tells how soldiers put noise markers on kites and flew them at night over the enemy camp. The enemies were scared by the noise and ran away.
About 1,300 years ago, Chinese travelers took kites to Japan. Soon kites filled the sky there. Kites reached Thailand about 700 years ago. During floods, Thai farmers flew kites over their fields. They hoped the kites would drive away the clouds and stop the rain. Over time, kites flew their way out of Asia. Today, kites are a passion all over the world. Kite fans meet at festivals in many parts of the world and have great fun.
Over the years, kites have also helped people understand the natural world. In 1749, for example, a thermometer (温度计) was tied to kites to measure temperatures. In 1906, cameras hanging from kites took pictures of San Francisco and California after an earthquake. The photos help people plan what to do. Kites also helped inventors find out how to make airplanes: The Wright brothers studied how kites flew, which helped them make the first successful airplane.
Since the ancient Chinese first set their kites into the air, people have loved flying kites. Kites give us ways to celebrate, relax and explore. So go fly a kite! Enjoy the feeling of wonder that kite flyers have felt for centuries.
47. According to the passage, in which countries were kites used to make good wishes?

【导语】本文介绍了风筝的起源、传播历史,以及它在不同国家的用途和对人类的影响,展现了风筝在文化、军事和科学领域的多重价值。
【47题详解】
根据文中“Starting 2000 years ago, Chinese farmers flew kites to welcome the New Year and bring good luck to Earth.”(中国农民放风筝迎接新年,祈求好运),以及“During floods, Thai farmers flew kites over their fields. They hoped the kites would drive away the clouds and stop the rain.”(泰国农民放风筝祈雨停),同时结合选项,文中明确提到的、用风筝表达美好愿望的是中国和印度尼西亚,对应选项中最符合题意的逻辑,正确答案应为C(China and Indonesia),文中印尼是用风筝捕鱼,中国是用风筝祈福,符合“make good wishes”的核心描述。
【48题详解】
根据文中“One Chinese story tells how soldiers put noise markers on kites and flew them at night over the enemy camp. The enemies were scared by the noise and ran away.”可知,士兵们在风筝上安装发声装置,夜间在敌营放飞,敌人被噪音吓跑了。因此士兵用风筝的目的是让敌人因恐惧而逃离。
【49题详解】
根据文中“Today, kites are a passion all over the world. Kite fans meet at festivals in many parts of the world and have great fun.”可知,世界各地的风筝爱好者会在节日聚会,享受放风筝的乐趣,说明人们对风筝有很高的热情和喜爱,因此“passion”在这里的意思是“强烈的热爱”。
【50题详解】
第4段提到“In 1749, for example, a thermometer was tied to kites to measure temperatures. In 1906, cameras hanging from kites took pictures... The Wright brothers studied how kites flew...”,作者通过举“用风筝测温度、拍地震照片、帮助发明飞机”等多个例子,说明风筝如何帮助人们认识自然世界,因此是通过“举例子”的方式展开段落。
【51题详解】
文章不仅讲述了风筝从亚洲向世界的传播,还介绍了风筝在军事、文化中的用途,以及它对科学(如飞机发明、气象探测)和文化(节日、祈福)的影响。选项C“The Influence of Kites on Science and Culture”(风筝对科学与文化的影响)最能概括全文主旨。

Have you ever made New Year’s resolutions (决心) before? According to a survey, 27% of the teenagers set themselves one or more New Year’s resolutions at the start of the year, especially in January. Is January the right time to set New Year’s resolutions? Should teenagers wait a little longer before deciding what they want?
Some think January is a better time because it’s a fun tradition to discuss New Year’s resolutions with their family and friends at the start of the year. By the time you’ve decided, you’ll have less time to achieve your goals (目标).
However, others have different ideas. They think January is always a cold and dark month when teenagers just want to stay indoors. What’s more, they should make resolutions any time they want. If they wait a bit longer, they’ll have a better idea of what they want to do. One study showed that by the end of January, 20% of the teenagers had failed to stick to their resolutions.
