It is often said that old people don’t understand the young, while many believe that children are too young to fully understand the wisdom of their elders. But in truth, both groups have a lot to learn from each other.
Geraldine Tan runs the St. Joseph’s Home for the aged in Singapore. It’s mainly a place for serving the elders. But not all of its visitors are old people.
The home also includes a child-care center for about 50 kids between the ages of 2 months and 6 years old. At the center of the home’s courtyard (中庭), there is a playground where the old people can play with the kids. By doing so, they can learn more about each other and get more mutual (相互的) respect and understanding.
I think it is quite an interesting idea. We live in a world where aging societies are becoming more common. It will be important for young people to be able to understand and care for old people in the coming years.
Sadly, my own grandparents weren’t around when I was little, as they had already passed away. I never got to learn what the world was like through their eyes, or what kinds of challenges they might have faced when they were my age. Their lives will always be a mystery (谜) to me.
But I suppose I can still learn from other people of older generations. I might find some of their ideas old-fashioned, and they might believe that my generation’s way of thinking is strange or incorrect. But we can still learn from each other anyway.
20. What can we know about St. Joseph’s Home?
A. It is in Singapore. B. It is run by St. Joseph. C. It only serves old people.
21. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 4 refer to?
A. Building a playground at the courtyard.
B. Making old people and kids play together.
C. Respecting old people and learning from them.
22. The writer express his opinion in Paragraph 5 ________.
A. by giving numbers B. by explaining reasons C. by telling an own story
23. What’s the main idea of the last paragraph?
A. Thoughts of young people are usually wrong.

C. The older generations are no longer fashionable.

5. D
结合“reduce the travel time between the two sides…about 60 minutes to just 2 minutes”以及方框词,此处表示通行时间从60分钟缩短为2分钟,from…to…
be动词“is”后需接形容词作表语,结合后文“for its great bridges”以及方框词,此处为be famous for固定搭配,意为“以……闻名”,此处指贵州以桥梁闻名,选项E“famous”符合该固定搭配,其他选项均无法构成此短语。
【5题详解】
句意:当它完工时,它将帮助周边地区的经济发展并吸引游客。结合“It will help the economy of the nearby areas and attract tourists”以及“it’s finished”,空处需要连词引导时间状语从句,选项D“when”意为“当……时”,符合逻辑。其他选项均不能引导时间状语从句。
第二节
