Food has always been an important part of human culture. The way we prepare, eat, and share food reflects our traditions, values, and beliefs. When people from different cultures come together, food becomes a tool for cultural exchanges. It allows individuals to share their cooking traditions, learn about new flavors, and appreciate the diversity of cuisines(菜肴).
One aspect of how food bridges cultural gaps is the popularity of ethnic restaurants. These establishments offer a taste of different cultures, allowing people to explore new cuisines and experience the traditions related to them. Whether it’s a Mexican taqueria, an Indian curry house, or a Japanese sushi bar, these restaurants serve as a place where customers can not only try new dishes but also gain a deeper understanding of the culture behind the food.
Food events also play an important role in promoting cultural exchanges. These gatherings bring together people from diverse backgrounds, showing the richness and diversity of different cuisines. Visitors can attend food tastings and cooking competitions, and join in conversations with chefs and food lovers. These events create a sense of community and help develop cross-cultural understanding.
Moreover, the act of sharing food can be a potent way to connect with others. When we invite someone into our homes and cook a meal for them, we are not only providing their bodies with energy but also sharing a part of our cultural identity. Through food, we can communicate our values, customs, and heritage. It allows us to break down barriers(隔阂) and build relationships based on respect and appreciation.
In today’s globalized world, where people from different cultures often live side by side, food becomes even more important in bridging cultural gaps. It provides a ground where people can come together, celebrate their differences, and find commonalities.
4.What’s one feature of ethnic restaurants according to the text?
A. They serve delicious food. B. They show culture through food.
C. They show cooking processes. D. They provide unique cultural shows.
5.What does the underlined word “potent” in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Familiar. B. Surprising. C. Powerful. D. Creative.
6.How does the author support his viewpoint?
A. By making comparisons. B. By providing numbers.
C. By quoting famous opinions. D. By reasoning point by point.
7.What is a suitable title for the text?
A. Food: A Bridge to Connections B. The Global Journey of Cuisines
C. The Role of Food in Cultural Identity D. Ethnic Restaurants: A Taste of Diversity
根据第二段的“These establishments offer a taste of different cultures...traditions related to them”可知,异国风味的餐厅的特点之一是它们通过食物展示文化,让顾客能够了解不同文化。
根据画线词后的“Through food, we can communicate our values...respect and appreciation”可知,通过食物我们可以交流我们的价值观、风俗和文化遗产。
C
I watched a boy in my third-grade class change the arm of his catapult (弹射器) for the fifth time as he measured distances and recorded numbers. He was discovering the relationship between arm length and distance. “The longer arm throws the ball farther!” he announced, super excited. He connected mathematics, physics, and data visualization(可视化) through curiosity. Most importantly, he made discoveries I never taught him.
I realized he was doing exactly what Leonardo da Vinci did 500 years ago. Leonardo da Vinci would carefully study muscle and bone structures to paint characters’ lifelike reactions. Most artists would never connect anatomy with painting, but Leonardo da Vinci saw them as inseparable.
The ability to see connections across different fields of knowledge is extremely valuable for kids today, as AI becomes better at replacing traditional deep understanding of content. And what I know from working with 8-year-olds is that the brain’s ability to make unexpected connections strengthens with practice, just like physical muscles develop through exercise.
However, traditional education may destroy this natural process. Schools break knowledge into subjects and tests focus on lower-order thinking skills such as memorization and understanding. Of course, these skills are still valuable, but if we fail to improve higher-order skills like application, creative synthesis, and original creation, students will be left behind by machines that can process the same information significantly quicker.
In traditional schooling, students learn to represent data through diagrams in math class, but often can’t connect this to persuasive writing when they collect survey data from classmates, or to science when they need to communicate experimental results visually. The transfer ability exists if schools create opportunities for it.
Research by Meredith Thomas, who holds a PhD in Curriculum and Teaching, shows what happened when we stopped separating knowledge. When open-ended thinking was practiced with K-6 students through interdisciplinary(跨学科的)instruction, significant increases occurred in fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. Students taking part in cross-field learning showed measurable improvement in creative thinking that single-subject instruction cannot achieve. Please remember: Innovation comes from connecting, not dividing.
8.What’s the similarity between the boy and Leonardo da Vinci?
A. They fell in love with science as a kid. B. They showed excellent natural talent.
C. They benefited from cross-field learning. D. They wanted to be pioneers in their fields.
9.What’s a disadvantage of traditional education according to the text?
A. It focuses too much on tests. B. It fails to develop top-level inventors.
C. It is totally outdated in the age of AI. D. It may leave out higher-order ability.
10.Why does the author mention Meredith Thomas’s research?
A. To provide supporting evidence. B. To share effective learning methods.
C. To introduce education advancements. D. To compare different teaching practices.
11.Where is the text most probably taken from?
A. An introduction to a book. B. An article about teaching methods.
C. A report about teaching experiments. D. A paper on the role of AI in education.
D
(25-26高一下·重庆·月考)The British Museum has a rich collection of ancient Chinese paintings that has attracted many visitors. At the center of the protection of these artworks is senior conservator (文物修复员) Qiu Jinxian.
Joanna Kosek, head of Pictorial Art Conservation at the British Museum, told the media that Qiu is considered one of the museum’s most valuable treasures. “We let the treasure treat the treasure,” Kosek said.
In 1987, Qiu was introduced to Mrs. Jessica Rawson, director of the British Museum. At that time, there were no conservators skilled in ancient Chinese art at the museum. The large collection of Chinese paintings was mainly repaired using Japanese and British methods. As these were not suitable for Chinese paintings, many artworks were kept in storage instead of being shown to the public.
Just before Christmas in 1987, Qiu had her first appointment at the British Museum. She was asked to repair an ancient scroll (卷轴) by Fu Baoshi, badly damaged by fire. Her methods, such as washing with warm water to separate the glue to repair the paper, greatly surprised everyone. Some even took out cameras to record her work, as they had never seen this way of repairing art. Mrs. Rawson was so amazed that she immediately invited Qiu to join the museum.
Chinese ancient paintings are very difficult to repair because of their large size, complex materials, and rich content. The most important thing is to understand the long history and culture behind each painting. The repair process takes a great deal of time and energy. Each painting normally takes several months from cleaning to completion. Since 1987, Qiu has repaired more than 400 artworks.
Qiu told the media that she is very proud of her work. She wants more people to understand and appreciate Chinese history and culture through art. Originally from China, these artistic treasures, restored to their former splendor, glow with timeless charm and add profound brilliance to world art.
12.What was the problem with Chinese paintings at the museum before Qiu’s arrival?
A.Most of them had been severely damaged by fire.
B.They were too large for any conservator to repair.
C.They were repaired with methods ill-suited for them.
D.No conservator had experience in any form of Asian art.
13.What makes Chinese ancient paintings difficult to repair?
A.Their paper, materials, and the use of ancient techniques.
B.Their size, materials, and the cultural knowledge required.
C.Their size, content, and the lack of conservators worldwide.
D.Their history, materials, and the need to find original colors.
14.What is Qiu’s attitude toward Chinese artworks being kept abroad?
A.Indifferent, caring only about the technical repair work.
B.Conflicted, believing they should be returned to China.
C.Critical, questioning the museum’s way of keeping them.
D.Open, for they deserve to be admired and cherished by all.
15.What is the best title for the text?
A.Ancient Chinese Paintings: Hard to Restore
B.Qiu Jinxian: The Treasure Protecting Treasures
C.East Meets West: Different Conservation Methods
D.The British Museum: Home to the World’s Finest Art
根据第三段中的“The large collection of Chinese paintings was mainly repaired using Japanese and British methods. As these were not suitable for Chinese paintings, many artworks were kept in storage instead of being shown to the public.(大量中国古画主要采用日本和英国的方法修复。由于这些方法不适用于中国古画,许多艺术品被封存起来,未能向公众展出。)”可知,在邱锦仙到来之前,馆内的中国古画使用的修复方法并不适合它们。故选C项。
13.B 细节理解题。根据第五段中的“Chinese ancient paintings are very difficult to repair because of their large size, complex materials, and rich content. The most important thing is to understand the long history and culture behind each painting.(中国古画修复难度极大,原因在于其尺寸大、材质复杂、内容丰富。最重要的是要理解每幅画背后悠久的历史与文化。)”可知,尺寸、材质以及所需的文化知识让中国古画难以修复。故选B项。
14.D 推理判断题。根据第六段中的“She wants more people to understand and appreciate Chinese history and culture through art.(她希望更多人通过艺术了解和欣赏中国的历史与文化。)”
通读全文,尤其是第二段中的“Joanna Kosek, head of Pictorial Art Conservation at the British Museum, told the media that Qiu is considered one of the museum’s most valuable treasures. “We let the treasure treat the treasure,” Kosek said.(大英博物馆绘画艺术品保护部门主管乔安娜·科塞克向媒体表示,邱锦仙被视为该博物馆最珍贵的藏品之一。科塞克说:“我们以珍宝护珍宝。”)”可知,文章围绕邱锦仙修复中国古画、守护文物珍宝展开,因此“邱锦仙:守护珍宝的宝藏”最适合作为标题。故选B项。

(25-26高一下·河北石家庄·月考)Traditional festivals are an important part of human culture and civilization. Across the globe, people gather to celebrate, remember, and honor customs that have been handed down through generations. 16 Here, we explore why people celebrate traditional festivals worldwide.
One of the primary reasons traditional festivals are celebrated is to preserve and promote cultural heritage. Festivals act as living museums where customs, art forms, music, dance, clothing, and other traditions come alive. 17 For example, the Chinese New Year is full of special traditions that respect ancestors and bring good luck.
Traditional festivals often match seasonal cycles and farming patterns (模式). Historically, agricultural communities depended heavily on nature’s cycles for planting and harvesting crops. Festivals marked key points in these cycles to give thanks for good harvests or to pray for good weather. Examples include the Mid-Autumn Festival which celebrates the harvest moon. 18
Festivals provide a stage for cultural expression where music, dance, handmade works, and local food are shown with great excitement. These creative activities help keep old art forms alive while also bringing in new ideas. 19 Young people can learn these skills from older family members at festivals. This helps pass traditions to the next generation.
20 Festivals improve local economy by creating demand for goods such as handmade items, local food, traditional clothes, hotels, bus and taxi services, and more. Small family businesses can earn more during festival times. This helps improve people’s living standards in the community.
A.Festivals are symbols of new beginnings.
B.Many traditional festivals have deep religious roots.
C.These festivals are different but share common reasons.
D.They remind communities of their shared history and identity.
E.Many festivals have also become important for business today.
F.They make cultures more colorful and different from each other.
G.Such human activities show respect for nature’s influence on survival.

As they turned a corner, an old man with a brown hat was walking towards them. “Hi, Joseph, it’s good to see you,” Grandpa greeted him warmly. “I hate going out in winter!” Joseph complained, pulling his scarf up over his mouth and nose as he walked by. “He’s bad-tempered(脾气坏的)!” Michael said in a low voice. But Grandpa whispered to him that Joseph was just lonely, for he lived by himself, and suggested they might be able to help.
Suddenly, a rush of wind blew off Joseph’s brown hat, sending it towards the pond before the hat disappeared from sight. Joseph was very upset, shaking in the cold. Without hesitation, Grandpa lent a helping hand. “You can take mine if you don’t mind,” he said, handing his red hat over to Joseph.
“Thanks,” Joseph said, putting on the red hat and continuing on his way. A car passed, and the people inside waved at Joseph, recognizing him as “the man in the red hat”. Another car passed and honked(鸣喇叭). At first confused, Joseph soon caught on, happily waving back at the third car that greeted him.

A week later, a birthday party was thrown for Grandpa. To everyone’s surprise, Joseph came with a present. He walked in with a big smile, wearing the red hat that Grandpa had given him. “Happy Birthday, David,” Joseph said, handing Grandpa a beautifully wrapped box. Inside was a brand-new red hat identical to the one Grandpa had given away, which he thought would be the perfect gift. Grandpa patted him on the shoulder, put on the red hat and invited him to join in his daily walk later, applause and laughter breaking out in the room. Michael noticed Joseph seemed more cheerful and relaxed.
After the party, Michael and two men in red hats began their daily walk. Grandpa and Joseph walked side by side, waving at passers-by. Michael, inspired by his grandpa’s actions, decided to wave as well, enjoying the smiles and waves they received in return. They made their way through the neighborhood, their hearts warmed by the simple acts of connection. Michael realized that small gestures, like waving or lending a hat, could have a big impact on someone’s day. He felt proud to be part of their little team, spreading cheer and kindness in their community.
