Aiming to raise students’ environmental awareness and encourage them to take practical action to protect the environment, our Student Union organized a meaningful event themed “Protect the Environment, Clean Up Nanshan” last weekend.
Participants, including students from different grades and teachers, actively joined the event as planned. To begin with, we were divided into small groups, received gloves and garbage bags, and picked up litter left by visitors along the paths of Nanshan, sorting waste such as plastic bottles and snack wrappers along the way. Moreover, a local environmentalist was invited to give a short talk on the impact of litter on mountain ecosystems, highlighting the harm of plastic waste to wildlife and the importance of waste sorting.
The activity turned out to be a great success and received high praise. Through the activity, not only did we witness the harmful effects of human waste on nature with our own eyes, but we also had a valuable chance to take a break from heavy schoolwork and strengthen our sense of responsibility.
Paragraph 1:
That night, I kept turning her words over and over in my head. Maybe I had been so focused on being noticed that I forgot why I started volunteering in the first place. The badge was never about being seen — it was about the joy of helping others without expecting anything in return. The next day, I stopped forcing myself to speak or lead. Instead, I quietly read with the kids, tidied up the activity room, and stayed late to clean, just as I used to. The pressure faded, and I finally felt like myself again.
Paragraph 2:
A few days later, the award ceremony took place. I sat calmly among the other volunteers, no longer anxious about the result. Director Ben announced several names for their outstanding contributions. Then, to my surprise, he called mine. “This volunteer has shown quiet, steady dedication year after year,” he said. “That’s what the badge truly honors.” As I walked up to receive the gold badge, I realized my mother was right — true effort never disappears unnoticed. It simply shines in its own time.
A
根据文中本地AI自动化智能体适用场景“You have boring tasks, like moving files or filling out forms, that you want to run automatically.”(自动处理移动文件、填写表格等繁琐枯燥任务),可知OpenClaw适合完成枯燥表单填写。A(解答数学难题)、D(撰写短篇故事)均属于大语言模型的功能;B(搭建AI模型)文中并未提及相关内容。故选C。
根据文章安全提示“For non-technical users...A safer approach is using ‘read-only’ access. This lets the AI summarize information without the ability to delete or change your data.”(非技术用户安全用法为开启只读权限,仅允许AI查看整理信息)。故选A。
根据第二段 “the muddy bed of this pool...The vehicle bottomed out and ground to a stop.” A(在路上撞车)、C(发动机故障)、D(偏离主干道)均无原文依据。故选 B。
根据第六段 “She gave a massive push and the car shot backwards, out of the mud. We were free!” 故选 A。
A(肯尼亚冒险驾车旅行)偏离主线;B(大象可怕的袭击)与原文内容不符,大象并无攻击行为;D(参观犀牛保护区)只是故事背景。只有 C(一头大象的意外救援)贴合全文主旨。故选 C。
C
根据第一段中黄仁勋的警告:“The United States may fall behind China in AI.”(美国可能在AI领域落后于中国),以及后文提到“Mr Huang’s concern related to... human talent”(黄先生的担忧与人才有关),可以判断他对中国AI的崛起持“担忧”的态度。A(不关心)、C(怀疑)、D(支持)均不符合文意。故选B。
A(AI人才获得更高学位)未提及;C(中国机构重视人才)虽在文中有体现,但不是该段研究的直接结论;D(人才从中国流向美国)与文中“中国越来越多地留住人才”的趋势相反。故选B。
根据第四段,中国留住AI人才的方式有两方面:一是教育层面——“China prioritises education in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM): around two-fifths of Chinese university students study STEM subjects”(约五分之二的大学生攻读STEM专业);二是资金支持——“initiatives to attract talented researchers back to China, such as the Qiming Plan, offer salaries of more than 700,000 yuan, generous research grants and help with housing”(启明计划提供高薪、研究资助和住房帮助)。 A(通过建立忠诚度和发放签证)是美国面临的问题;B(通过募资和开设校区)未明确提及;D(通过培训专家和欢迎外国人)不是主要手段。故选C。
D
根据第一段“By feeding carrot waste to edible fungi, the researchers created a sustainable protein source.”;第二段 “Gand and his colleagues set out to recover nutrients from carrot waste and reuse it as a growing medium for fungi.” A.
原文中 “To see how the fungal protein worked in real foods” 直接点明实验目的:检验真菌蛋白在实际食品中的应用效果,即评估其应用价值,因此 C 项正确。A.
根据最后一段“The process makes use of food production materials that would otherwise be wasted, without requiring additional farmland”,可知,该技术利用原本会被废弃的食品加工废料,且无需额外占用耕地,具备环保、可持续的核心特点,因此 C 项正确。A.
前文提到“They spent their adolescent years without the Internet, social media or other portable smart devices.”(他们的青少年时期没有互联网、社交媒体或其他便携式智能设备),描述了成年人成长环境的一个显著特点。后文紧接着说“Yet their experiences are by no means entirely distinct from ours.”(然而他们的经历与我们并非完全不同),出现了明显的转折词 Yet。选项 E “So they simply grew up in a different era with limited technology.”(所以他们成长在一个科技有限的不同时代)正好填补了这两句之间的逻辑空白。
前文提到“We may easily get bored with parents’ or grandparents’ repeated childhood stories and old tales.”(我们可能很厌烦父母或祖父母反复讲述的童年故事和旧传闻),表达了对长辈故事的负面情绪。后文提到“These precious memories serve as a bridge to our family history...”(这些珍贵的记忆是通往家族历史的桥梁……),转而强调这些记忆的重要价值。 选项 G “However, it is these stories that form the foundation of our family identity.”(然而,正是这些故事构成了我们家族身份的根基)完美衔接了前后语境。
前文提到“Adults can share how they maintained positive relationships and peacefully settled disagreements with friends.”(成年人可以分享如何维持积极的关系以及和平解决朋友间的分歧),点明了本段主题友谊建议。后文提到“They can explain exactly how they handled comparable struggles when they were our age.”(他们可以准确解释如何在我们这个年纪处理类似的困境),是对前句行动的进一步说明。 选项 D “Consult a reliable adult about friendship issues that puzzle.”(向一位值得信赖的成年人咨询困扰你的友谊问题)起到了承上启下的作用。
39.A. 通读全段内容,核心词反复出现:pressure(压力)、hardship(困境)、anxiety(焦虑)、calm their troubled minds(平复烦躁的心情)。
前文提到“But every adult will have a story about mistakes they have made.”(但每个成年人都有关于自己犯错的故事),引出了“错误”这一话题。后文提到“They know that mistakes happen as no one is perfect...”(他们知道人无完人,错误在所难免……),这是成年人基于经验得出的认知。 选项 F “Listen to them and their tips about what they’ve learned from failure.”(倾听他们的话以及他们从失败中学到的建议)在逻辑上构成了顺承。

W: Yes, she played with great melody(旋律) and expression. I’ll give her an eight out of ten.
M: She scores nine out of ten for me.
W: Now, let’s talk about the second performance — the song Moon. I think the singer’s voice was amazing. I’m sure she can be a professional singer in the future. (15)
M: Yes, I think she was definitely the crowd’s favorite. (15) I’ll give her an eight.
W: Same here.
M: Lastly, we have the magic man. He had the whole theater guessing where the rabbit had gone! (16)
W: I know! I really hope he can explain to us how he did it later. (16) So, a good eight out of ten for me.
M: I’ll give him seven.
W: Right, whoever got the highest score is the winner. Let’s add them up!

In recent years, new AI tools are taking over people’s most conversations. Among them, there are mainly two types: large language models (LLM) like Deepseek and ChatGPT, and self-hosted AI automation (自动) agent like OpenClaw. We shared this quick guide on our online platform to help you make your choice and stay safe.
When to choose LLM
·You need help writing stories, solving hard math, or fixing computer code.
·You want a very smart AI that doesn’t cost a lot of money to use.
·You want to use one of the newest and most powerful AI models available.
When to choose self-hosted AI automation agent
·You want an AI that can actually move your mouse and click things on your screen.
·You want to keep your data private by running everything on your own computer.
·You have boring tasks, like moving files or filling out forms, that you want to run automatically.
The Security Reality
AI automation agent is powerful but risky because it obeys every command without checking who sent it.
For non-technical users, avoid installing (安装) it on personal devices or linking sensitive accounts you value. A safer approach is using “read-only” access. This lets the AI summarize information without the ability to delete or change your data.

It was early December and the hot, dry season in Kenya. Patricia and I drove through Ol Pejeta Conservancy, East Africa’s largest rhino habitat. I was working on a project there to block the illegal trade of rhinos.
Bouncing across the bush, we approached a shallow rain pool. I began driving through it. I’ve clocked up countless off-road miles, but the muddy bed of this pool caught me off guard. The vehicle bottomed out and ground to a stop.
As I prepared to push it out, Patricia yelled: “Dan, an elephant is coming!” I turned around. Sure enough, a curious young female was heading towards us, probably wondering what all the engine roaring had been about. I jumped into the car immediately.
With no hunting, elephants are usually quite calm. But as this individual approached, I felt decidedly on edge. After all, an elephant could easily crush our car like a tin can.
The female elephant came right up to the car, her leathery trunk waving over the front, her eyes inquisitive, and her big ears gently rippling. I held the top of the back seat tightly, while Patricia hid in the front, petrified. “What is the elephant doing?” she screamed.
After pausing for a moment as if to inspect the vehicle, the elephant hooked her tusks (象牙) under the front bar and pressed her head against the front of the car. She gave a massive push and the car shot backwards, out of the mud. We were free!
Patricia clapped her hands in delight, her face glowed with relief. I pulled out my phone and, leaning over the back seat, shot a couple of photos of the elephant.
24. What can be learned about the car from paragraph 2?
A. It crashed on the road. B. It got stuck in the mud.
C. It had an engine failure. D. It ran off the main road.
25. What does “petrified” probably mean in paragraph 5?
A. Excited. B. Frightened. C. Curious. D. Relieved
26. What can we infer about the female elephant?
A. She offered timely help. B. She hunted other animals.
C. She feared human vehicles. D. She posed serious threats.
27. What is the text mainly about?
A. An adventurous car trip in Kenya.
B. A frightening wild elephant attack.
C. An unexpected rescue by an elephant.
D. A unforgettable visit to a rhino reserve.
C
“The United States may fall behind China in AI.” warned Jensen Huang, the boss of Nvidia. That may seem surprising — for much of the past decade America has been ahead in the AI race, home to advanced companies producing frontier models. But Mr Huang’s concern related to an equally important ingredient of innovation: human talent.
To better understand the flow of AI talent, The Economist conducted a study which tracked the education histories of researchers who presented papers at the December 2025 edition of the Conference on NeurIPS, the world’s largest and most influential AI gathering. Using a mixture of AI and manual search, we randomly sampled the researchers and identified their educational backgrounds.
The study revealed 51% of the AI researchers began their careers in China. In 2019, just 29% did. Over the same period, the share who started out in America fell from roughly 20% to 12%. The study also shows the extent to which America’s AI efforts rely on Chinese-born researchers. Among authors working for American institutions, roughly 35% have a Chinese undergraduate degree.
China is increasingly holding on to its AI talent. China prioritises education in science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM): around two-fifths of Chinese university students study STEM subjects, roughly double America’s share. At the same time, initiatives to attract talented researchers back to China, such as the Qiming Plan, offer salaries of more than 700,000 yuan ($ 100,000), generous research grants and help with housing. Meanwhile, America has become a less attractive destination. Funding cuts and visa uncertainty have unsettled would-be applicants, as has increasing suspicion of their loyalties. More are therefore heading home.
America’s appeal has not vanished. But the numbers increasingly favour China. Around 37% of the world’s top AI researchers now work in Chinese organisations, compared with 32% in American ones. The battle for talent looks increasingly one-sided.
28. What is Huang’s attitude to China’s AI rise?
A. Unconcerned. B. Worried. C. Doubtful. D. Supportive.
29. What is paragraph 2 mainly about?
A. The study background. B. The survey result.
C. The technical challenge. D. The research design.
30. What can we learn from the study?
A. AI talents earn higher degrees. B. Chinese AI talent takes the lead.
C. American institutions value talents. D. Talent flows from China to America.
31. How does China hold on to its AI talents?
A. By building loyalty and issuing visas.
B. By raising funds and opening campuses.
C. By offering education and providing funding.
D. By training experts and welcoming foreigners.
D
As the global population grows, the pressure to produce nutritious food more efficiently continues to increase. At the same time, food manufacturing generates large amounts of leftover material that often goes unused. Scientists investigated whether waste from carrot processing could serve a new purpose. By feeding carrot waste to edible fungi (可食用真菌), the researchers created a sustainable protein source.
Previous research has shown that fungi can grow on food industry leftovers. Building on this work, Gand and his colleagues set out to recover nutrients from carrot waste and reuse it as a growing medium for fungi.
Instead of harvesting mushroom caps, the team focused on fungal mycelia (菌丝), which grow faster and take up less space, while still producing nutrients that are beneficial for human diets. To identify the most promising option, the researchers tested 106 different fungal strains (品种) grown on waste from orange and black carrots used in natural color production. Each strain was evaluated for growth performance and protein output. One fungus emerged as the top candidate: Pleurotus djamor.
After selecting this species, the researchers adjusted growth conditions to increase protein yield. The resulting protein showed biological value similar to those of animal and plant proteins, meaning it could be efficiently used by the human body. To see how the fungal protein worked in real foods, the team prepared vegan burgers that replaced soy protein with different amounts of mycelia. The burgers contained 0%, 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% fungal protein. Volunteers evaluated them based on their flavor. A key finding was that participants preferred those made entirely with mycelia over those made entirely with soy.
Overall, the findings suggest that fungal mycelia could serve as a sustainable and appealing protein source. The process makes use of food production materials that would otherwise be wasted, without requiring additional farmland, and offers nutritional benefits similar to existing
plant-based proteins.
32. What was carrot waste used for in the research?
A. Producing natural colors.
B. Replacing traditional protein.
C. Speeding up the growth of fungi.
D. Acting as a medium to grow fungi.
33. Why did the researchers conduct the vegan burger test?
A. To compare different kinds of proteins.
B. To improve the flavor of vegan burgers.
C. To test the application of fungal protein.
D. To identify the most promising fungi strain.
34. What is the advantage of fungal mycelia as a protein source?
A. It is plant-based. B. It is labor-saving.
C. It is eco-friendly. D. It is easy-digesting.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Carrots: A Solution to Global Hunger
B. Edible Fungi: A Path to Sustainable Protein
C. Pleurotus Djamor: A Highly Efficient Fungus
D. Food Leftovers: A Valuable Resource to Reuse

Adults, though often labeled as old-fashioned or out of date, can still offer us practical guidance. They spent their adolescent years without the Internet, social media or other portable smart devices. 36 Yet their experiences are by no means entirely distinct from ours. Therefore, we can really benefit from their life lessons.
Valuable Memories
We may easily get bored with parents’ or grandparents’ repeated childhood stories and old tales. 37 These precious memories serve as a bridge to our family history, helping us grasp who we are and where we come from.
Friendship Tips
Genuine friendship counts greatly in our personal growth. Adults can share how they maintained positive relationships and peacefully settled disagreements with friends. 38 They can explain exactly how they handled comparable struggles when they were our age.
39
No matter how calm and confident adults may seem today, they all once struggled with pressure and hardship when they were teenagers. They have also discovered helpful ways to cope with anxiety and calm their troubled minds, so their suggestions are truly worth listening to.
Learning from Mistakes
Whenever we make wrong choices, it can feel awful. But every adult will have a story about mistakes they have made. 40 They know that mistakes happen as no one is perfect and the things that seem terrible and important now won’t matter in the years to come.
A. Handling Stress Wisely

The community youth center I had attended for years held a summer tradition: a gold badge (徽章) was awarded to the most dedicated volunteer. With its engraved (雕刻) star and printed name, the badge meant everything to me.
I had volunteered there since I was twelve, helping with children’s reading programs, organizing events, and staying late to clean up. While my friends relaxed, I was always busy and ready to help. I felt proud to be someone others could rely on. This year, I was certain the badge would be mine, and I had even imagined hearing my name announced.
One afternoon, during a volunteer meeting led by Director Ben, the discussion turned to the selection of the badge. I expected a simple update, but his words made me uneasy. He explained that the badge would be awarded to those who “stood out”. At first, I tried to stay calm. But the more I thought about it, the more convinced I became that quiet effort might be unnoticed. What mattered, I believed, was being seen. Otherwise, even hard work could disappear in silence. That idea disturbed me.
From that moment, I began to question myself. Convinced that recognition depended on visibility, I changed my behavior. I raised my hand at every meeting, volunteered to lead every activity, and made sure my voice was the loudest. Yet the more I forced myself, the more unnatural everything felt.
One evening, I told my mother what had happened. She listened and asked, “What do you think the badge is really for?” “It’s for being seen...I guess,” I replied. She shook her head. “Then you’ve misunderstood it. If you think it’s about being seen, then you don’t understand what the badge really stands for.”
Paragraph 1: That night, I kept turning her words over and over in my head._____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2: A few days later, the award ceremony took place._________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
