The most special gift I have ever received is a watch from my grandfather. He gave it to me before I entered junior high school. The watch looks old but still works well.
My grandfather told me, "Time is valuable. Never waste it." He used to wear this watch every day when he was young. Now he gave it to me because he wanted me to learn the same lesson. And I wear it to school every day.
This watch is not expensive or new, but it means a lot. It reminds me to value my time and remember my grandfather's love. I will keep it forever.

“Grandma, I’m back!” I pushed open the old wooden door, and the familiar smell of rice cakes filled the air. Grandma turned around quickly.
“Oh! You’ve grown even taller again!” It was her same greeting every Spring Festival, even though I’m in Grade 9 and nearly as tall as Dad now.
“Come on in, hurry! I have something good for you.”
She took my hand, led me to the central room, and then mysteriously opened the old-fashioned wooden cabinet (储物柜) in the corner — her treasure house.
“Look,” she said, carefully taking out a red plastic bag, “your favorite sesame (芝麻) candy! And this — beef jerky (肉干)! A TV program said it’s from Inner Mongolia. It must be delicious.”
I took it and found it was six months past its expiration date (保质期). My heart stopped for a moment. Looking up, I caught Grandma’s eyes. “Is it good? I’ve been keeping it for the better part of a year!”
“Yes, it’s delicious! Everything Grandma saves is delicious!” I opened the package and took a bite (咬). The beef jerky was very hard, but I ate it happily. “It’s really tasty!”
Grandma smiled and looked for something in the cabinet. “And there’s something else… something else…”
Mom walked in and said, “Mom, haven’t these been expired?”
“Expired? I… I thought the packaging still looked fine…” Grandma’s hand paused (暂停).
The room suddenly became quiet. I quickly took another bite, “Well, it’s not expired! They say online — love has no expiration date!”
Grandma was surprised for a second, then broke into a big smile. “Yes, yes! Love never expires!”
Just then, I suddenly understood: Grandma wasn’t just keeping snacks. She was keeping reasons for us to come home.

① Green is the color of nature and the symbol of life. For thousands of years, humans have followed the laws of nature to live in harmony (和谐) with nature.
② That has been seen in ancient Chinese houses. Ancient Chinese often built their homes at the foot of the mountain with a river running nearby. The mountains could stop the cold wind from the north and the river provided water for life. Most houses were also built facing south or west so that the rooms were able to get enough sunshine in winter and keep cool in summer.
③ In modern times, humans didn’t follow the laws of nature during fast development. Luckily, it’s never too late to make changes.
④ Green development is the goal of all countries. On April 23, 2016, China signed the Paris Agreement on climate (气候) change, giving a strong push to the international efforts against global warming.
⑤ Also in China, the government added green development to the country’s work plans. From 1999 to the end of 2018, by carrying out Mother River Protection Operation, China raised 600 million yuan to build over 5,700 green projects. Through international cooperation (合作), over 98.32 million trees were planted across China.
⑥ Denmark is a leading country in wind and solar technologies. This year Denmark has started the “Power-to-X” plan, providing about 1.25 billion kroner (about 1.27 billion yuan) for projects producing hydrogen (氢气).
⑦ Builders across the world are also playing a role in green development. In Chicago, pressed newspaper, recycled glass and plastic are used on buildings. In Bali, the green school is made from bamboo. The school gets its electricity from solar panels (太阳能电池板), water power and a generator that burns farm waste.
⑧ Following the laws of nature is the only way out. A small move in one country may influence the global community as a whole. Let’s join our hands to make the world a better place for now and future.
26. What do we know about the ancient Chinese houses?
A. They were built on the mountains.
B. They were built far from rivers.
C. They were built facing south or west.
D. They were built to get enough wind.
27. How does the writer develop his idea in Paragraph 7?
A. By explaining the results. B. By giving examples.
C. By comparing differences. D. By raising questions.
28. Which sentence has the same meaning of “global” as the underlined word in Paragraph 4?
global /ˈɡləʊbə/ adj. ①全球的;②全面的;③整体的;④球形的
A. They sent a global e-mail to all staff.
B. We need to have a global plan before making a decision.
C. Unlike a basketball, an egg is not a perfect global shape.
D. Many middle school students enjoy watching global sports events like the World Cup or the Olympics.
29. Which of the following would the writer agree with?
A. Everyone is part of the green development.
B. Green buildings are the future of the world.
C. Green development is just protecting nature.
D. The future of humans depends on technology.
30. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A. Green is the color of nature and it is very beautiful.
B. Ancient Chinese people were clever in building their houses.
C. Many countries are trying different ways to protect the environment.
D. Following the laws of nature is the key to a better future for everyone.

阅读短文,用英文填空或回答问题(请注意每小题的词数要求)。
Do you ever feel like you are just running from one activity to another? Do you rush from one subject to another at school? When this happens, it’s easy to get lost in learning. That’s why it’s important to stop and reflect. Self-reflection (反省) means slowing down and calming yourself. By doing so, you give your brain a chance to process what it has already received.
There are different ways to practice self-reflection. Some people choose to keep a diary or take notes. Knowing when to reflect is also necessary. For example, school textbooks are divided into units. You know a unit is over when you have a test. These natural breaks are a good time to stop and do self-reflection.
Once you find a good time, you can follow 4 steps to do self-reflection. Find a quiet place. You can do this even at your desk if you finish early. Take out your reflection diary or a piece of paper to write down what you’ve learned. Then, think about these notes and connect them with what you already know. Finally, make a list of any remaining questions. For example, if you’ve learned a new math way but aren’t sure how to use it, writing this question down will help you find the answer later.
Self-reflection is important for a successful student. If you have never taken this time to do self-reflection, try it now.
