Kung fu, or Chinese martial arts, has a history of over 4,000 years. It first started as a way to protect oneself and stay healthy.
The Shaolin Temple in Henan Province is famous for its martial arts. Monks there practice moves like kicks and weapon (武器) fighting to stay strong. Another style is Wudang martial arts from Hubei Province. It focuses on slow movements connected to Taoist philosophy (道教). Taijiquan, which we often see in parks, is part of Wudang martial arts.
In the 20th century, Bruce Lee made kung fu famous worldwide. Born in San Francisco but raised in Hong Kong, he learned Wing Chun (咏春) from Ye Wen. Later, he created his own style, Jeet Kune Do (截拳道), which focuses on quick actions. His movies, like The Big Boss and Enter the Dragon, turned kung fu into a global hit.
Wuxia novels are also an important part of kung fu culture. These stories are usually about heroes who help the weak and fight for fairness. Kung fu is not just about fighting. Its true spirit teaches peace — we should avoid fights unless we have to protect others or ourselves.

You probably know not to eat strawberries without washing them first. Fruits and vegetables often carry pesticides (农药). While these chemicals protect crops from bad insects, they can be unsafe for humans.
Washing produce with water before eating helps, but scientists say it’s not enough to remove all pesticides. A recent study found that some pesticides can enter fruits or vegetables through their peels (outer skins). Since many pesticides are fat-soluble (脂溶性的), they can stick to the peel and are hard to wash off.
Does this mean you should avoid apples or pears? No! Experts suggest peeling fruits like apples and pears to remove nearly all pesticide residues (残留). For dealing with fruits like strawberries, try soaking (浸泡) them in saltwater for 10 minutes. One scientist explained. “Saltwater helps remove some pesticides, but peeling works best.”
Long-term eating of pesticides can cause lots of health problems like cancer. So, be careful with how you clean your produce!
50. Which is true according to the new study?
A. Washing can remove all pesticide residues. B. Washed fruits still have pesticide residues.
C. Washing is the best way to remove pesticide. D. Washed fruits are safer than peeled fruits.
51. What does the underlined word “them” refer to (指的是)?
A. Fruits like apples. B. Fat-soluble pesticides.

细节理解题。根据文章第二段“Washing produce with water before eating helps, but scientists say it’s not enough to remove all pesticides. A recent study found that some pesticides can enter fruits or vegetables through their peels (outer skins).”可知,清洗并不能去除所有的农药残留,有些农药可以通过果皮进入水果或蔬菜内部,因此洗过的水果仍然有农药残留。故选B。
【51题详解】
词句猜测题。根据文章第三段“For dealing with fruits like strawberries, try soaking (浸泡) them in saltwater for 10 minutes.”可知,对于像草莓这样的水果,可以尝试在盐水中浸泡10分钟,因此“them”指的是像草莓这样的水果。故选C。

Last month, my friend Lily and I entered a science competition. The task was to create a robot that could pick up small objects. We spent weeks designing, building, and testing it, putting in many hours of hard work.
However, disaster hit just before the competition. On the day before the event, our robot suddenly stopped working. Lily felt so upset and wanted to give up, but I refused to let our efforts go to waste.
I spent hours carefully checking every part of the robot and trying to find the problem. I even called our science teacher, Mr. Smith, for help. When he heard about our situation, he was so moved by our determination that he came to school late at night. With his guidance, we fixed the robot just in time.
The next day, our robot performed perfectly, and we won second prize. This experience taught me that perseverance (毅力) truly pays off. When we keep trying, others will notice and are more willing to help. While giving up closes doors, perseverance unlocks new chances. Now, I always stay determined when facing challenges.

阅读下面短文,并用英语回答问题 (请注意每小题后面的词数要求)。
