Volunteering means spending some of your free time helping others.
You may volunteer to help other people, but you can also volunteer to do something good for animals, the environment, or any other things that you care about. Volunteering helps others but it can also help yourself. If you are worried about something that has happened, doing something can be a great way to deal with your feelings.
Volunteering can let you see your own life in new ways. For example, if you don't have the most expensive shoes or the newest computer game, you may find it difficult to stop yourself from worrying about things like grades or getting angry. Volunteering lets you spend some time on others.
Doing volunteer work is a great way to have fun with your family. Here are some ideas on how you can do the work together. First, clean up a park or a road along a river. Second, do some housework for the old persons or the sick. Third, serve food at a shelter for the homeless. Fourth, plant trees or flowers in your community. Fifth, clean up a school or other public buildings.
Now some schools ask kids to spend some time helping others because volunteering gives them a sense of duty. Why can we say that volunteering gives kids a sense of duty? The reason is that volunteering can make kids feel needed by some people. Volunteering can also help kids learn important things about themselves. A volunteer job can even help some kids understand what to do when they grow up. So what are you waiting for?
66. What does volunteering mean?
A. Doing something good for your family.
B. Spending some of your free time helping others.
C. Earning money in your free time.
D. Helping kids learn about themselves.
67. As a volunteer, whom can you do some housework for?
A. The old and the sick. B. The young men.
C. All the people. D. Our relatives and friends.
68. Which of the following is NOT the reason why some schools ask kids to spend some time helping others?
A. Volunteering gives kids a sense of duty.
B. Volunteering can make kids feel needed by some people.
C. Volunteering can help kids learn important things about themselves.
D. Volunteering can help kids to earn more money to buy what they like.
69. Which of the following is NOT true?
A. You can help others and can also volunteer to do something good for animals, the environment, or any other things that you care about.
B. Volunteering can let you see your own life in new ways.
C. Volunteering is only good for others.
D. Doing volunteer work is a great way to have fun with your family.
70. What's the purpose of the writer in writing this passage?
A. To show us how great he is.
B. To show people how to do some work.
C. To explain the meaning of the word "volunteer".
D. To encourage us to join in volunteering activities.
C
Some people think only school children do not agree with their parents, however, it is not true.
Communication is a problem for parents and children of all ages. If it's hard for you to communicate with your parents, don't worry about it. Here are some suggestions for you to bridge the generation gap.
Don't argue with your parents. Don't get to your parents when you are angry. Your parents probably won't consider your ideas if you are shouting at them. You can't express yourself well if you are angry. Go to some place to cool off. Make sure you understand why you are unhappy. Then think about what you want to say to your parents. If you don't think you can speak to them at the moment, try writing a letter.
Try to reach a compromise (和解). Perhaps you and your parents disagree (有分歧) on something. You can keep your disagreement and try your best to accept each other. Michael's mother didn't agree with him about buying a car. They argued over it, but finally they came to a compromise. Michael bought the car, but only drove it on certain days. Of course your parents might refuse to compromise on something. In these situations, it is especially important to show love and respect to them. Showing respect will keep your relationship strong.
Talk about your values. The values of your parents are probably different from those of your own. Tell your parents what you care about, and why. Understanding your values might help them see your purposes in life.
A good relationship with your parents can make you a better and happier person. It is worth having a try.

The other story happened in winter. Sun Kang woke up on a cold night. He saw the moon shine so brightly on the snow and it made the night brighter. "I can read with the light!" he thought. So he took his books outside and read, even though it was very cold.
