Do you sometimes feel sad when you watch the news on TV or read a newspaper? It seems that they always talk about bad things in the world. But there’s a special place online where people share only good news! It’s called HappyNews, and it’s a website full of happy stories.
Byron Reese founded HappyNews. He noticed that most news and newspapers mainly talk about sad stories. Reese said, “The news makes the world seem worse than it really is! Most people are kind and want to help others. HappyNews shows the good side of life.”
But not everyone agrees with this idea. Some people think it’s important to share news about problems so we can learn how to fix them. Reese said, “HappyNews doesn’t try to hide bad things. I start HappyNews because I want to show that the world has good things!“
Lots of people love HappyNews. In its first month online, over 70,000 readers visited the website and 60% of them were women. Something else unique makes HappyNews different from any of the other news or information online websites. Unlike other websites, it gets happy letters from readers every day!
So if you don’t want to hear only bad news, ▲ Here, you’ll read happy stories instead of sad stories—just smiles, hope, and remember that good things happen every day!

Nature is full of wonders. Take a close look at insects, and you will discover many unbelievable things. Butterflies, for example, have beautiful wings and strong flying skills. On summer days, we see them flying beautifully over gardens and fields. But did you know that butterflies live through different stages before they become the flying insects we all know?
A butterfly’s life begins as a tiny egg. Female butterflies lay their eggs on a leaf or stem. Inside that small egg, a new life is growing. Soon, the egg opens and a small worm comes out. This little creature now has legs, eyes and a big need for food. It eats and eats until it grows bigger. Then it makes a cover for itself and goes to sleep. This stage is called the pupa.
What happens next is truly amazing. After some time, the cover breaks and a wet, weak butterfly appears. Slowly, its wings fill with blood. Soon, the beautiful butterfly spreads its wings and flies away. After a few weeks, this adult butterfly lays her own eggs, and the whole cycle begins again.
Butterflies are just one example of nature’s wonders. Look around the natural world, and you will find many truly amazing things.

Growing up in England with a British father and a Chinese mother, I have enjoyed food from both countries for as long as I can remember. Mum often cooks spicy Sichuan dishes, and because of her, Dad has come to love hot pot. But there are still some foods he cannot get used to. He once told me he was shocked when he first visited my grandparents in China and saw them eating almost every part of an animal. Even today, he still does not like things like chicken feet.
Dad can cook a great “full English breakfast” with bacon, eggs, beans, sausages and toast. He also makes a Sunday roast. We all love roast beef and vegetables, but Mum asks me to eat less roast food because it may cause too much heat inside my body.
I will never forget my first visit to China when I was twelve. I loved everything until I met stinky tofu. It was a grey thing that looked and smelt like a burnt shoe. Mum said I did not have to try it, but I took a bite. To my surprise, it was not so bad.
People say that one man’s meat is another man’s poison, but I feel at home with food from both my cultures. To me, there is nothing better than a cup of Chinese oolong tea with some English biscuits.

Hello, everyone! I’m happy to share my cooking experience with my family.

This experience taught me cooking is fun and a great way to show love. My family’s praise made me proud. Cooking together brings us closer, and I hope more students can enjoy it too.
