The she-wolf walked deeper into the cave. It was larger inside than at the opening. It was warm and dry. The opening was small enough for her to stop anything dangerous from coming inside. She lay down and rested. She had found what she was looking for.
One-Eye entered the cave, but the she-wolf growled at him,and he quickly backed out again. He was hungry, and he went off to hunt. He was away from the cave for many hours. When he returned,he heard noises inside. He did not know what they were. He tried to enter the cave, but the she-wolf growled at him again. She now had five wolf cubs. She was afraid that One-Eye would eat them. She knew that male wolves sometimes ate their cubs.
One-Eye was not that kind of wolf. He knew he had to find food for his mate and her cubs. He set off to hunt again. Before long,he saw a small animal. It was big enough to eat,but as he moved toward it,it rolled itself into a ball. It was a porcupine (豪猪),an animal with sharp spines. When it is attacked,it shoots these spines at its attacker. He was afraid of the porcupine,so he moved on and looked for other small animals to eat.
He came to the river bank. A large water bird was standing there. One-Eye leapt at it and caught it. He was hungry and began to eat the bird. He remembered the she-wolf and her cubs in the cave. She needed food. He picked up the dead bird and began to carry it back to the cave.
He returned to where he had seen the porcupine. Another animal was watching the porcupine. It was a lynx. The lynx was waiting for the right moment to attack the porcupine. One-Eye decided to watch and see what would happen.
The porcupine thought it was safe and began to unroll. As soon as it unrolled, the lynx sprang forward and tried to bite it. The porcupine quickly rolled itself up again and shot sharp spines into the lynx. The lynx leapt into the air in great pain and then ran off.
One-Eye saw that the porcupine was badly hurt. He waited. One-Eye could see a good place to bite it,but he waited until he was sure the porcupine was dead. Then he picked it up and carried it back to where he had left the dead bird. He quickly ate the bird and carried the dead porcupine back to the cave.
The she-wolf let him come in with the food. She knew now that he was not the kind of mate who would eat the cubs. She knew he would take care of her and her family.—Taken from White Fang

When you travel, do you map out every site ahead of time and stick to the plan, making sure you don’t miss anything? Or do you only make simple preparations and then do whatever you feel like during the trip? The difference being considered is that between planning and spontaneity (随性).
Some may argue strongly that a well-structured plan is the safer, more trustworthy way. Others hold that spontaneity, with its openness to surprise, is the truer way to experience life. The answer, I suppose, is that neither is always better. It depends on the situation, and more importantly, on what we hope to get out of it.
When launching a spacecraft into space, careful planning is beyond question, for a mistake could lead to disaster. But when playing football with children in the backyard, a strict game plan would feel out of place, for spontaneity allows the joy of the moment to take over. The same activity can call for different ways depending on its purpose.
Both planning and spontaneity come with their own risks. Over-planning may cause us to focus so much on covering every detail (细节) that we forget to enjoy the experience itself. This can happen when we take too many pictures of famous sites, only to realize later that we never truly enjoy them. On the other hand, a willingness to “wing it” can sometimes turn small mistakes into costly ones. For example, an unplanned hike without enough water may turn a pleasant afternoon into a difficult one. Thus, neither way is always better. What matters is knowing the risks of each and choosing the one that fits the situation.
Yet planning and spontaneity need not be opposites. Even in highly structured settings, there is room for the unplanned. A symphony orchestra (交响乐团) performs from written music, yet a conductor may make small changes to the way the music is played based on the feel of the moment. Jazz musicians, famous for their improvisation (即兴创作), still begin with a basic structure. In both cases, planning provides the base, while spontaneity brings it to life.
So, which is better? The question itself may be too simple. What matters is not choosing one over the other, but understanding when each is called for, and how they can work together. Recognizing this allows us to make wiser decisions, but only when we are willing to look closely at our own choices and take responsibility for what we see.
30.Why does the writer mention two different examples in Paragraph 3?
A. To stress that careful planning is necessary.
B. To prove that spontaneity works better in daily life.
C. To explain that the situation decides whether to plan or be spontaneous.
D. To show that planning is more difficult than being spontaneous.
31.What do the words “wing it” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Do things carelessly. B. Act without preparation.
C. Go against rules. D. Take unnecessary risks.
32.Which of the following shows a balance between planning and spontaneity?
A. Sticking to a strict timetable.
B. Following a cookbook step by step.
C. Making a to-do list but keeping the order flexible.
D. Going out right after seeing the nice weather.
33.Which of the following is the best title for this passage?
A. Planning and Spontaneity: Hidden Risks
B. Planning and Spontaneity: Both Have a Place
C. Planning over Spontaneity: The Key to Success
D. Spontaneity before Planning: The Path to Happiness

34.Can Sleeping Longer on Weekends Help Teens Feel Less Anxious?
For many teens, Saturday mornings are a time to sleep longer. After a busy week, the weekend offers a chance to catch up on sleep. A new study finds that sleeping a little longer on weekends may help reduce anxiety (焦虑)—but only if teens get less than two extra hours of sleep.
Sleep is important for the brain and body, especially for teenagers. However, 75 percent of American teens do not get the recommended 8 to 10 hours of sleep each night. School and other activities make them wake up early, and their body clocks make it hard to fall asleep before 11 p.m.
Some past studies suggested that too much weekend sleep might be linked to depression (抑郁). But no one had carefully studied how it relates to anxiety. So researcher Sojeong Kim decided to find out.
Kim used data from nearly 1, 900 teens aged 12 to 15. She looked at their sleep patterns (模式) and their feelings of anxiety. She found that teens who slept in for less than two extra hours on weekends reported the lowest anxiety symptoms. Teens who did not sleep in, or who lost sleep on weekends, had higher anxiety. Those who slept more than two extra hours had the highest anxiety symptoms of all.
Kim shared her findings at a meeting in 2025. She thinks that big changes between weekday and weekend sleep schedules may cause a problem called “social jet lag”. This happens when the body’s clock does not match the sleep cycle. It can make people feel tired and unfocused.
Kim did not find a clear link between weekend sleep and depression. That may be because depression usually starts later in adolescence (青春期). Anxiety, however, often begins earlier.
For now, Kim’s advice for teens is simple: getting a little extra sleep on weekends may help you feel less anxious, but too much may have the opposite effect.

She had found what she was looking for."(她找到了她要找的东西。) He knew he had to find food for his mate and her cubs.He set off to hunt again."(他知道他必须为他的配偶和她的孩子们寻找食物。 One-Eye decided to watch and see what would happen."(一只眼决定看看会发生什么。)及倒数第二段"but he waited until he was sure the porcupine was dead"(但他一直等到确定豪猪已经死了)可知,独眼看到一只猞猁攻击一只豪猪,并一直等到豪猪死亡;根据倒数第二段"He quickly ate the bird and carried the dead porcupine back to the cave."(他很快吃掉了这只鸟,并把死豪猪带回了洞穴。) The she-wolf let him come in with the food."(母狼让他带着食物进来了。)

原文提到“The same activity can call for different ways depending on its purpose.”,说明情境和目的决定了用哪种方式。
4. 全文核心观点是“规划和随性各有适用场景,都有价值”,所以B选项“Planning and Spontaneity: Both Have a Place”最贴合主旨。

第二段提到“Sleep is important for the brain and body, especially for teenagers.”
2. 第五段提到“big changes between weekday and weekend sleep schedules may cause a problem called ‘social jet lag’.”
3. 第六段提到“That may be because depression usually starts later in adolescence.”

One-Eye entered the cave, but the she-wolf growled at him,and he
quickly backed out again. He was hungry, and he went off to hunt.He
was away from the cave for many hours. When he returned,he heard
noises inside. He did not know what they were.He tried to enter the cave, but the she-wolf
growled at him again. She now had five wolf cubs. She was afraid that One-Eye would eat
them. She knew that male wolves sometimes ate their cubs.

as he moved toward it,it rolled itself into a ball.It was a porcupine ()an animal
with sharp spines. When it is attacked,it shoots these spines at its attacker. He was afraid of
the porcupine,so he moved on and looked for other small animals to eat.

over. The same activity can call for different ways depending on its purpose.
:
Both planning and spontaneity come with their own risks.Over-planning may cause us
to focus so much on covering every detail (that we forget to enjoy the experience itself.
This can happen when we take too many pictures of famous sites, only to realize later that we
never truly enjoy them.On the other hand,a willingness to "wing it"can sometimes turn

small mistakes into costly ones. For example,an unplanned hike without enough water may
turn a pleasant afternoon into a difficult one. Thus, neither way is always better. What matters
is knowing the risks of each and choosing the one that fits the situation.
Yet planning and spontaneity need not be opposites.Even in highly structured settings,
there is room for the unplanned.A symphony orchestra(交响乐团)performs from written

feel of the moment..Jazz musicians,.famous for their improvisation(很即兴创作),still begin
with a basic structure. In both cases, planning provides the base, while spontaneity brings it to

So,which is better? The question itself may be too simple. What matters is not
choosing one over the other, but understanding when each is called for,and how they can
work together.Recognizing this allows us to make wiser decisions, but only when we are
willing to look closely at our own choices and take responsibility for what we see
a conductor
