The line was moving slowly, but the three friends made the waiting fun by talking about their favourite ice creams and other interesting things. When it was finally their turn to buy ice creams, something not so nice happened. A group of noisy teenagers came along and pushed their way in front of the three friends. Lily, Max, and Sarah felt unhappy and unfair (不公平的).
Lily, the bravest of them all, spoke up. “Excuse me, but I think it’s my turn next. Can you please check?”
A big boy at the front looked surprised. But when he saw the angry (愤怒的) looks of the people around him, he said, “Oh, I’m sorry. I didn’t know. Please go on.” The three friends smiled. They went to the front and ordered their favourite ice creams.
As the three friends enjoyed their sweet treats, they talked about what had happened. They realised people sometimes overlook (忽视) those who are patiently waiting for their turns. So, they decided to start a movement (运动) to remind people about fairness and politeness in lines.

Liu grew up in the countryside of the dry Qinghai-Xizang Plateau. The weather there is not good for the planting of watermelons. “I never tasted watermelons as a child,” she said. “But ‘freedom of watermelons’ is now not a dream anymore in my place.” People in her place can have as many watermelons as they wish. They get the fruit mostly from Gansu, Shaanxi, and Xinjiang.
Song Shaozhe works in a restaurant in Wuhan, Hubei. He says that watermelons are really common at many restaurants as the after-meal fruit, partly because they are cheap.
However, the “freedom of watermelons” didn’t come easy. For many years, scientists have tried hard to improve watermelon breeding (育种). Watermelons become abundant. 【答案】
A Failure in Group Work
Last week, our group did a class presentation on career choices. I didn’t listen to my teammates’ ideas and made all decisions alone. As a result, the presentation was not good, and both our teacher and teammates were unhappy.
From this failure, I learned that teamwork is very important. We should communicate and work together instead of deciding things alone. I believe if we listen to each other next time, we will surely do better.
