全英文教学设计 PEP八下 Unit 5 Nature’s Temper Period III Section A Grammar Focus（4a-4d） The analysis of the text Grammar Focus 4a - 4d talks about extreme weather like typhoons and tornadoes. It mainly uses the past continuous tense with when and while.4a describes what people were doing in different situations.4b leads students to join simple sentences with when and while to talk about actions during extreme weather.4c is a short passage about a family’s actions before and after a tornado.4d is a role-play: interview one family member like a reporter, talking about what they did when the tornado came and while they waited. The analysis of students Students in Grade 8 have learned the simple past tense and some basic words about weather and daily actions. But they are not good at the past continuous tense. Besides, students are interested in natural disasters and life stories. They are willing to take part in pair work and role-play, but they still need clear guidance on grammar and sentence structures. Core competences　　　 Through the lesson, ss will be able to: 1. Greetings. 2.Show a video of the tornado and ask ss questions. Ss greet and watch the video, then answer questions: What were the people doing when the tornado hit? Can you use more accurate English to describe the actions? To check whether students can correctly use past continuous tense. Purpose Arouse students' interest in the expression of weather condition. Step II Presentation Work on 4a 1.Present sentences from the Grammar Focus and have ss read aloud, let ss underline the verbs which show an ongoing action in the past. 2.Explain the structure of the past continuous tense, the differences of when and while, and give a lot of examples. Students look through the sentences in 4a, underline the verbs which show an ongoing action in the past. To observe whether students can master the point. Purpose To lead students to master the use of past continuous tense. Step III Practice 1. T asks students to finish the task in 4b-- combine each pair of sentences using when and while. 2. T asks students to finish the task in 4c-- Complete the passage with was, were, when or while. 3. T asks students to finish the task in 4d---Imagine you are a reporter, interview a member of Jenny’s family and find out what he or she was doing around the time of tornado. Students finish and check their answers in 4b, 4c and 4d. To check the accuracy of past continuous tense and when/while Purpose Strengthen students' application of be(was/were) through written exercises. Step IV Summary 1. Summarize the key points of this class, including the structures and usage of when and while. Ask students if they have any questions. 2. The teacher guides students to complete the assessment form. Students recall the learned knowledge of today and complete the assessment form. To check if students can summarize the knowledge they learned. Purpose To help students strengthen the knowledge they have learned. Step V Homework You must do: Read the sentences of 4a in Grammar Focus. If you can: Make a short video introducing the natural disasters and how to face them. Homework can help students strengthen the knowledge which they have learned. Purpose Let students in different level to build up their confidence and expand language output.
