It is important to make wise decisions. How does our brain work when we engage in such thinking?
C
The brain (大脑) is the most amazing part of our body, but nobody really understands it. But just like our body, it needs to be looked after well. Getting a good night’s sleep, eating healthy food and exercising are all important ways of looking after both our body and our brain.
Many people think their brain will slow down with age and as a result, their memory will get worse. The truth is that just like our body, we can also improve our brain. I’ve found I can improve my memory by imagining what I need to remember. For example, if I need to buy bread, milk and a birthday card for my brother, I will imagine a piece of bread, a bottle of milk with a cow on the front and a birthday card with a football on it.
It is true for an important day. If we have a picture of a thing in our mind, it’s much easier to remember it than just a number on a calendar.
Another way of improving our mind is to make sure we regularly visit new places and have new experiences. I find learning Spanish is a great way to keep the brain working, and that communication in any language is useful.
Having a conversation is much better for our brain than looking at a computer screen or at other people talking on TV.
21. What’s the writer’s purpose (目的) in writing the first paragraph?
A. To explain how the brain works.
B. To talk about problems of the brain.
C. To tell us how clever the writer used to be.
D. To tell us the brain needs care like our body.
22. What can we learn about the writer from the passage?
A. The writer enjoys travelling.
B. The writer exercises every day.
C. The writer knows some Spanish.
D. The writer’s memory becomes worse and worse.
23. Which of the following has a similar meaning to the underlined word “regularly”?
A. Never. B. Often. C. Almost. D. Sometimes.
24. Which of the following may the writer agree with?
A. Memory is not easy to improve.
B. It is possible to improve our memory.
C. Things are more difficult to remember than numbers.
D. Watching people talking on TV is better for our brain.
25. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Ways to develop our minds. B. The latest news about the brain.
C. Ways to keep our body healthy. D. The amazing power of our memory.
【答案】21. D 22. C 23. B 24. B 25. A

Luckily, a fitness tracker, like a smart watch or a wristband (手环), can give you a hand. It counts your steps, checks your heart rate (心率) and records how well you sleep every night. If you sit for too long, it will shake to remind you to stand up and move around. All the data (数据) goes to an app on your phone. You can set simple daily goals, such as walking 8,000 steps or drinking eight glasses of water. The tracker will also remind you to finish these tasks on time.
This small device (设备) makes healthy living much easier. You don’t even need a personal coach. Just wear it every day and follow its tips, and you will build good habits step by step. It’s amazing how a small fitness tracker can bring big changes to your daily life!

Rapid Response Saves a Student
On August 12, 2024, a 20-year-old student from the UK fell over while taking part in a summer exchange program at a university in Suzhou. After falling, his breathing was weak and he lost consciousness (意识). Someone called 120 at once.
Yang Xiaoping, from Suzhou’s emergency centre, received the call and quickly decided that the student needed CPR. Through an online first aid platform, Yang and another doctor taught someone who was on the scene to perform CPR on the student.
Once the ambulance arrived, the student was connected to an electronic CPR device on the way to the hospital. After arriving at the hospital, the emergency team continued CPR for seven more minutes until they detected the student’s heartbeat and pulse. Then he was sent to the intensive care unit (重症监护室). The student recovered rapidly due to proper treatment he received there. In a few days, he could eat and get out of his bed by himself.
On August 15th, the student’s parents flew to Suzhou to express their thanks. “We’re so thankful to everyone—the warm-hearted people in the university, ambulance team, nurses and doctors. We hope to bring our son home alive and well, which would have been impossible without everything they’ve done,” his father said.
Doctor Lu is a member of the emergency team in the hospital. He said, “For a patient like the student, each step—from on-scene CPR to ambulance care to hospital rescue—is very important. The online first aid platform played an important role in saving the student’s life. It was launched in our hospital in July. So far, it has helped many people.”

例文
I once failed a difficult math test and felt really upset in my daily study. However, instead of giving up easily, I chose to stay positive all the time. I reviewed my careless mistakes carefully and patiently asked my math teacher for useful help. Gradually, my basic math skills improved a lot day by day.
This special experience taught me that staying positive helps us face different challenges bravely. When we keep a hopeful and active mind, common difficulties become much easier to overcome.
So, let’s always stay positive and grow stronger together in our life.

How amazing our brain is! With our strong brains, we can think deeply and find many good ways to solve problems. Now, My friends and I are thinking hard to come up with ways to raise money for charity.

Fitness Tracker—Smart Wearable
Nowadays, many people want to keep healthy, but they often have no idea how much exercise they get every day. Some sit in front of computers for hours without moving, while others forget to drink enough water or take a walk to relax. These small bad habits can slowly make us unhealthy.
