Types of Travelers
Traveling is one of the most popular activities worldwide, and people do it in various ways. Whether you’re exploring bustling cities, relaxing on a beach, or hiking in the mountains, each
traveler has their own unique style. Here are four types of travelers.
The Luxury Traveler
The luxury traveler is all about comfort and convenience. They seek out high-end hotels, first-class flights, and exclusive experiences. They often stay in five-star resorts, dine at Michelin-starred restaurants, and enjoy private tours. Luxury travelers are usually more focused on enjoying the finer things in life, and they have high
expectations for the quality of service they receive.
The Backpacker
Backpackers are the opposite of luxury travelers. They travel on a budget, staying in hostels or campgrounds, and often rely on public transport. Their focus is on exploring new places, meeting new people, and experiencing different cultures, rather than luxury and comfort. Backpackers often seek adventure and new experiences, such as hiking, exploring remote areas, or immersing themselves in local communities. They are known for their low-cost
travel style, but they find richness in the cultural experiences they have along the way.
The Cultural Traveler
Cultural travelers are focused on immersing themselves in the history, art, and traditions of the places they visit. Whether it’s visiting museums, attending festivals, or studying ancient architecture, cultural travelers are always seeking deeper meaning in their journeys. They often plan their trips around cultural experiences and are keen to understand the people and history behind the destinations. If you find yourself drawn to museums,
historical sites, and cultural performances, you might be a cultural traveler.
The Adventure Traveler
Adventure travelers seek thrill and excitement. They are drawn to extreme sports, rugged terrains, and challenging activities like rock climbing, white-water rafting, or skydiving. For these travelers, it’s all about the adrenaline rush and pushing their limits. They are often seen in the mountains, jungles, or on remote trails, seeking out the next great adventure. If you’re the type who loves outdoor challenges, you may be an adventure traveler.
21. What are some of the key characteristics and preferences of the luxury traveler?
A. They prefer self-guided tours over private tours.

22. What activities do cultural travelers typically engage in during their trips?
A. Shopping for souvenirs and local delicacies.

C选项:指出“they seek out five-star resorts and Michelin-starred restaurants”(他们寻求五星级度假村和米其林星级餐厅),这与文中描述的奢侈旅行者的行为完全吻合。 综上所述,C选项“They seek out five-star resorts and Michelin-starred restaurants”正确描述了奢侈旅行者的关键特征和偏好。
根据文章第四段“Cultural travelers are focused on immersing themselves in the history, art, and traditions of the places they visit. They are described as individuals who seek deeper meaning in their journeys, often centered around cultural experiences.”
根据文章第三段“Backpackers often seek adventure and new experiences”和第五段“They are often seen in the mountains, jungles, or on remote trails, seeking out the next great adventure.” 故选A。
B
Nature has many lessons to offer, and some of her teachers wear feathers. If that is the case, Southwest China’s Sichuan province, which boasts a diverse wild bird population of more than 700 species, has a numerous and diverse faculty.
Shen You, a bird-watcher in Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan, says his pastime has turned him into a lifelong learner. The 47-year-old has many things to share—his passion of bird-watching, his own life philosophy, useful parenting methods and a vision for the ecotourism industry.
He became obsessed with bird-watching in the early 2000s when he was a student in Chengdu University. During the trips for summer social activities, he traveled to places like Dujiangyan, the site of ancient irrigation works in Chengdu, and the Ruoergai Grassland on the edge of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. He became interested in nature and later began to learn about spotting and identifying different species of birds.
In 2003, he found that there was a bird-watching section on the Chinese website of the World Wide Fund for Nature, on which he started to bond with other enthusiasts. The next year, he founded the Chengdu Bird Watching Society, a beginning for his future career as an environmentalist. Since then, he has been working with other enthusiasts to promote bird-watching in communities, schools and out in the wild, to support scientific research on bird species seen in Sichuan, and to explore effective ways to combine environmental protection with rural
development.
“Nowadays, we can see an increasing number of people joining us,” he says.
Apart from watching birds and capturing lovely moments with them on camera, today’s bird-watchers also record vocalizations(声音), take notes on their observations and even make bird-themed cultural and creative products, says Shen.
What has motivated Shen to attract more members to the society is his vision to develop bird-watching-based ecotourism, which would allow villages with the proper natural resources to be turned into ecotourism destinations, providing new income while enhancing villagers’ awareness of environmental protection and wildlife conservation.

根据文章第一段提到“Nature has many lessons to offer, and some of her teachers wear feathers. If that is the case, Southwest China’s Sichuan province, which boasts a diverse wild bird population of more than 700 species, has a numerous and diverse faculty.”
第三段提到“He became obsessed with bird-watching in the early 2000s when he was a student in Chengdu University.”,这句话的意思是“他在21世纪初,还是成都大学的学生时,就沉迷于观鸟”。
第四段提到“In 2003, he found that there was a bird-watching section on the Chinese website of the World Wide Fund for Nature, on which he started to bond with other enthusiasts. The next year, he founded the Chengdu Bird Watching Society…”,这段话的意思是“2003年,他发现世界自然基金会(WWF)中文网站上有一个观鸟板块,他开始在这个板块上与其他爱好者建立联系。
C
Givers of educational gifts, rejoice: despite the eye-rolls you may receive on Christmas morning, you are part of a long and valuable tradition. In cultures around the world, toys have been used to teach children what they need to know about the society they live in. When the toys teach the right skills, the children are prepared for adulthood and thrive(茁壮成长). When they do not, calamity beckons(来临).
Research led by Mathilde Meyer and Felix Riede suggests that giving the wrong toys may have played a crucial role in the downfall of Norse settlers in Greenland. In 985, Norse settlers arrived in Greenland, a mostly icy land with a thin strip of fertile coastline. They flourished for centuries but struggled as the world entered the Little Ice Age in 1300. By 1400, they were forced to abandon their settlements, while the Inuit people, who arrived in 1000, endured.
Archaeologists have been puzzled by the Inuit’s survival and the Norse’s failure. One theory was that the Norse didn’t eat enough seafood when farming conditions worsened, but this is unsupported by evidence. Ms. Meyer and Dr. Riede examined toys from both cultures to find clues. The Norse settlements yielded 72 toys, while the Inuit settlements yielded 2,397.
The researchers categorized the toys into five groups: weapons, tools, transport, social play, and skill play. They found that Inuit children had more and more diverse toys than Norse children. Over time, the gap grew dramatically. Norse children had old-fashioned toys like arrows and swords, while Inuit children had toys associated with hunting at sea, such as harpoons and figurines of seals and fish.
The researchers argue that the Norse’s tendency to give irrelevant toys compounded any initial lack of creativity and ultimately led to their downfall. In contrast, the Inuit’s preference for diverse and relevant toys helped their children become more innovative and adaptive. This study serves as a valuable lesson for parents today.
28. What does the underlined word “calamity” in paragraph 1 mean?
A. Happiness. B. Courage. C. Disaster. D. Sadness.
29. What does Mathilde Meyer and Felix Riede’s study focus on?
A. The adaptive strategies of the Inuit people in Greenland.
B. The historical causes of the Norse settlers’ decline in Greenland.
C. The effects of climate change on ancient civilizations in Greenland.
D. The impact of toy selection on the survival of Norse settlers in Greenland.
30. What does the comparison of the number of toys found in Norse and Inuit settlements suggest about the two cultures?
A. The Norse likely had fewer children than the Inuit, resulting in fewer toys.
B. The Norse placed less importance on children’s play compared to the Inuit.
C. The Inuit’s survival was directly caused by the large number of toys they produced.
D. The Inuit had a more child-centered culture, as evidenced by the higher number of toys.
31. Who will benefit from the study?
A. Pupils. B. Parents. C. Researches. D. Experts.
C篇【答案】28. C 29. D 30. B 31. B

解析:根据第一段中的“When the toys teach the right skills, the children are prepared for adulthood and thrive. When they do not, calamity beckons.”
解析:根据第二段中的“Research led by Mathilde Meyer and Felix Riede suggests that giving the wrong toys may have played a crucial role in the downfall of Norse settlers in Greenland.”
解析:根据第四段中的“They found that Inuit children had more and more diverse toys than Norse children.”
根据最后一段中的“This study serves as a valuable lesson for parents today.”
D
Amid growing concerns over a potential TikTok ban in the US, Chinese social media app RedNote—the international version of Xiaohongshu—has surged in popularity, claiming the top spot on the Apple App Store’s free downloads chart as of Monday night (US time). Following closely behind RedNote are TikTok’s Lemon8 and OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
A large group of TikTok users based in the US, calling themselves “TikTok refugees,” were seen on the Chinese social media platform. Many of them posted videos in which they shared reasons for joining a platform predominantly used by Chinese-speaking users.
The US Supreme Court conducted a two-hour session on January 10 to deliberate TikTok’s future in the US, according to an audio livestream on the court’s website. On December 6, 2024, a US federal appeals court upheld a law requiring ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to divest the app in the US by January 19, 2025 or face a ban, Reuters reported.
TikTok on December 16 requested an injunction from the US Supreme Court that would block the ban against it “until the conservative majority court rules on TikTok’s legality or dismisses the case,” the Forbes reported. The US Supreme Court on December 18, only two days after TikTok’s petition, agreed to review the request and decide to hear arguments on January 10.
In March 2024 when some US lawmakers are voting to possibly ban TikTok, then Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin said at a press briefing that in recent years, though the US has failed to find any evidence of TikTok posing a threat to the US national security, it has never stopped going after TikTok.
“Such practice of resorting to hegemonic moves when one could not succeed in fair competition disrupts the normal operation of businesses, undermines the confidence of international investors in the investment environment, sabotages the normal economic and trade order in the world and will eventually backfire on the US itself,” Wang said.
32. Which app topped the Apple App Store’s free downloads chart as of Monday night (US time)?
A. TikTok. B. Lemon8. C. RedNote. D. ChatGPT.
33. On what date did the US Supreme Court conduct a session to deliberate TikTok’s future in the US?
A. December 6, 2024. B. January 10, 2025.
C. December 16, 2024. D. December 18, 2024.
34. What is the attitude of the Chinese government towards the potential TikTok ban?
A. Negative. B. Supportive. C. Indifferent. D. Uncertain.
35. What can be inferred from the text?
A. RedNote’s popularity is solely due to the potential TikTok ban.
B. RedNote has been gaining popularity gradually over the past few years.
C. RedNote’s popularity has nothing to do with TikTok or its potential ban.
D. The surge in RedNote’s popularity is partially attributed to TikTok users seeking alternatives.
D篇【答案】32. C 33. B 34. A 35. D

解析:根据文章第一段,“Chinese social media app RedNote—the international version of Xiaohongshu—has surged in popularity, claiming the top spot on the Apple App Store’s free downloads chart as of Monday night (US time).”
解析:根据文章第三段,“The US Supreme Court conducted a two-hour session on January 10 to deliberate TikTok’s future in the US...”
解析:根据文章最后一段,中国外交部发言人王文斌表示,“Such practice of resorting to hegemonic moves when one could not succeed in fair competition disrupts the normal operation of businesses, undermines the confidence of international investors in the investment environment, sabotages the normal economic and trade order in the world and will eventually backfire on the US itself.”

分析句子结构可知,“_____ recently became the sole Asian film listed in the world’s top 30 highest-grossing films of all time”为定语从句,修饰先行词“merchandise from the film Ne Zha 2”,该定语从句缺少主语,且先行词表示物,所以此处需要一个关系代词来引导该定语从句,并在从句中作主语。
分析句子结构可知,“making it _____ top player in global animated films”为现在分词短语作结果状语,其中“it”为形式宾语,真正的宾语为“making it _____ top player in global animated films”这个短语,空格处修饰“player”,结合选项和句意,此处想表达的是“使其成为全球动画电影中的一位顶级参与者”,所以此空应填冠词a来修饰“top player”。
分析句子结构可知,“The colored papers and badges _____ (produce) by Guangdong Henglitai Crafts in Dongguan, Guangdong province”为句子主干,其中“The colored papers and badges”为句子的主语,谓语动词缺失,结合选项和句意可知,主语“colored papers and badges”与动词“produce”之间为被动关系,且描述的是客观事实,所以此处应用一般现在时的被动语态,主语为复数,所以be动词应用“are”,所以此空应填are produced。
【62题详解】分析句子结构可知,“the company’s client FunCrazy, the film’s official cooperation brand, _____ (place) an order for over 1 million sets of merchandise”为并列句中的从句部分,其中缺少谓语动词,结合选项和句意可知,此处想表达的是“FunCrazy订购了100多万套商品”,且描述的是过去发生的事情,所以此处应用一般过去时,谓语动词为“placed”,所以此空应填placed。
【65题详解】分析句子结构可知,“The company’s annual sales skyrocketed from 100 million yuan in 2022 _____ 300 million yuan in 2024”为主句,其中“from 100 million yuan in 2022 _____ 300 million yuan in 2024”为介词短语作状语,结合选项和句意可知,此处想表达的是“公司的年销售额从2022年的1亿元飙升到2024年的3亿元”,所以此处应用介词“to”表示“到……”,所以此空应填to。

范文:
Dancing Together: English and Art
Aimed at fostering students’ interest in both English and art, our school held an activity themed “Dancing Together: English and Art” last Sunday from 9 am to 11am in the school playground, which turned out to be a great success.
The day was filled with a myriad of activities. From captivating English drama performances that brought Shakespearean classics to life in a modern context, to vibrant English song contests where melodies intertwined with linguistic prowess, each event was a testament to the boundless possibilities when English meets art. Additionally, an English-themed art exhibition showcased pieces that creatively incorporated English phrases and literature, while a film dubbing competition allowed participants to voice their interpretations of iconic scenes in English.
It has not only enhanced my English communication skills but also nurtured my aesthetic sense, proving that learning a language is as much about immersing oneself in its cultural nuances as it is about mastering grammatical rules.
Around the holidays I was in line to check out with my Christmas shopping in a large retail store.
There were two women (Mom and grandma) with an infant in front of me. They had purchased some Christmas things and were ringing up four large cans of baby formula. The mom was purchasing with a card for a special program that helps women and children afford things like formula. The number wasn’t working for the program and I badly wanted to help but something kept me frozen, I didn’t want to embarrass the mom and I was too shy. After she had checked out, I purchased the formula and ran out into the parking lot to try to catch them but I was too late. I returned the formula right away and beat myself up for missing the opportunity.
A couple days ago I was in the exact same large retail store picking up a few things for my kids and I noticed the woman behind me had four large cans of baby formula. She looked like all of us moms of young children look at times… Exhausted, worn-out, and a little bit like if she wasn’t so dehydrated she’d be crying. She had her coupons in hand for the formula.
After I checked out, I moved away a couple feet but I hung around, trying to work up the nerve and hoping she wouldn’t be offended. I couldn’t believe this opportunity had come again for me to help another mom and I so badly wanted to help since with young children myself, it feels like others are always helping me. I wanted to pay it forward as well since I remember what it’s like to have a newborn.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150词左右;
There was an issue with the coupons ringing up and she was feeling badly for holding up the line.
I said goodbye and started crying before I even got to my car.
范文:
There was an issue with the coupons ringing up and she was feeling badly for holding up the line. With a deep breath, I turned around and approached the woman, trying to keep my voice as calm and friendly as possible. I told her I would love to pay for her formula today and asked if that would be okay with her. The woman looked at me in astonishment, her eyes widening slightly. For a moment, she seemed speechless, as if processing the unexpected offer. Then, a gentle smile spread across her face, and she nodded. “Are you serious? That would be amazing!” She proceeded to tell me that she had twins at home and how things had been so hard and she really needed a win today. We hugged and she asked me what had caused me to walk over and I let her know I had been where she was at and I knew how hard it was. I told her I wanted to pay it forward for all those who had helped me when I was having a hard time. She told me she would pay it forward as well in the future.
I said goodbye and started crying before I even got to my car. The relief on the woman’s face and her heartfelt thanks had touched me deeply. As I walked towards my vehicle, the weight of my own experiences as a new mom, the kindness shown to me by strangers, and the joy of being able to offer that same kindness to someone else all converged into an emotional outpouring. I thought about how interconnected our lives are, how small acts of kindness could ripple outward, touching lives in unexpected ways. I wiped away the tears, feeling a renewed sense of purpose and connection to the community of parents navigating the challenges of parenthood together. Driving home, I felt lighter, knowing that in some small way, I had made a difference. And as for the woman with the twins, I hope she found the strength and support she needed to navigate the challenges ahead.

A. Pupils. B. Parents. C. Researches. D. Experts.
