The natural world is colourful because humans, plants and animals show different colors. Human skin can be many different colors and it changes with the sun, our feelings or health. This is because of pigments. They reflect light and form the colors we see. So when we feel excited or angry, our bodies can send more blood to the face and the pigments in the skin become red. This is why we have the expression that someone “sees red” when they are angry.
Plants also have pigments. Colour is important for them to live on. The bright colors of flowers can attract the attention of insects. Then the insects carry their pollen from one flower to another. Bees can see colors we cannot, and they follow these colors to the inside of the flowers. Without bees visiting flowers in this way, many plants would die out(灭绝)。
Animals also use colour for their own needs. They protect themselves with different colors so as not to be seen by predators(捕食性动物)。 For example, a snowshoe hare, a kind of wild rabbit, changes colors with the seasons for this reason. During summer it is brown, and in winter it is white. Some animals use colors to ward off predators. Bright colors such as yellow and red are often used in this way. And predators also use colors to hunt animals.
So, we can see that there may be many different reasons and uses for colors in the animal world. Some uses of colour in nature stay unknown, but one thing is for sure: Colour not only makes our planet beautiful but also keeps it alive.

“I don’t like my parents. They always tell me I should do this, and should not do that. It sometimes makes me angry,” said Wang Li, a middle school student in Guangzhou. Do you have the same problem? Perhaps your parents had the same problem when they were your age long ago. Why are some parents not so friendly in their children’s eyes?
One of the most important reasons is when someone becomes a parent, he or she likes worrying things. They worry about everything about you, from the time you were born. They do a lot for you, though something would make you angry, because they care about you and worry about you. They worry about your choice of friends, the food you eat, your work at school, how much sleep you get and so on. All these things are part of your life. They want you to grow up healthily and happily.
So how can you make things easier on yourself? It’s easier than you think. Just make sure your parents know what you’re doing. Get them to know your friends. Phone them if you get home later than usual. Say sorry to them when you make mistakes. Talk about your ideas with them. They may talk about theirs with you.
Most of all, try to think about why your parents do this or that. They are still practicing being parents and need help you can give them. When you become a parent, they may be able to help you know how to get on with your children.
( ) 56. Some of the children are angry with their parents in the passage because ______.
A. the parents think they eat too much and do little
B. the parents don’t like the friends the children have made
C. the parents often limit (限制) the things their children do
( )57. The writer of the passage doesn’t agree that ______.
A. parents are not always so friendly in their children’s eyes
B. parents don’t want their children to make some bad friends
C. parents worry about everything about their children
( )58. “They are still practicing being parents” means “______”.
A. parents are not always right
B. parents should practice more
C. parents have many mistakes
( )59. What does the writer think children should do if they go back home later than usual?
A. Say sorry to their parents. B. Tell their teacher. C. Make a call to their parents.
( )60. What do you think is the best title for the passage?
A. Wang Li’s Problem
B. How to Get on with Parents
C. What Are Parents Worrying about
