Hi, everyone! Welcome to our school library. I’d like to introduce a popular new book — The Starry Notes. This kind of book can be found in many school bookstores and libraries now. Generally, The Starry Notes has about 180 pages. A copy usually weighs around 200 to 250 grams. In March, students often borrow it to read during breaks. In May, it’s popular for group discussions in literature classes. When final exams come in July, some students use it to relax between studying. The book tells stories about high school students. When a new term starts, the main characters join the school’s star-gazing club. Once they’re familiar with the club activities, they start planning a star-themed show. It’s hard to put down this book because the stories feel real — you can almost imagine being part of their adventures. Also, the writing is clear and the pictures inside are beautiful. What makes The Starry Notes different from other teen books? Its cover is sky-blue in spring and changes to deep purple in winter, and the pages have tiny stars that shine under light.

Miss sending letters? Try Lettrs! This new service brings back the art of letter writing by marrying it to the Internet.
Lettrs, a new site, is attempting to bring back the old-fashioned idea of letter writing by providing a space that feels a little bit like a writing desk.
Of course, there’ll be purists who say that to truly enjoy letter writing you must do it on fancy letter paper and envelope in the mail is part of the fun. And if you’re into that sort of thing, go for it. But I can’t be the only one who is now so much faster at typing that writing by hand is painfully slow. Nor can I be the only one who likes to write on a whim (一时兴起) when I’m going to be on a crowded train or airplane, both of which are situations where writing on the computer is far easier.
The site tries, pretty seriously, to approximate (接近) what it’s like to have your very own writing desk and paper to choose from (which comes in various prints and colors) as well as corresponding (通信) types of prints and cursive writing (草写体) that come out on your screen as you write. There’s also a “desk drawer” for letters you’ve already sent, a “fridge” to post letters publicly, a “kitchen counter” for letters you have just received, and “shoebox” to store your letters in.
And if you need inspiration there are even old-style letters that are great examples of the kind of correspondence people used to send. Lettrs is such a great idea, because you get the best parts of communicating online (typing rather than writing, the speed, no lost mail, and it’s free! ) with the nice parts of a letter — the sense of sitting down to write, quietly, to one person in a meaningful way.
Who would you write to?

C.always hopes to get paper letters

63.A Lettrs user can find a newly received letter in or on a “_________”.
A.desk drawer B.fridge
C.kitchen counter D.shoebox
64.What is the main purpose of the author writing the text?

The clownery starts on the sidewalk, even before you enter the big top. Crowds arriving for the Peru Amateur circus in Peru, Indiana, are greeted by merrymakers with silly jokes and rainbow suckers (彩虹棒棒糖) . The smell of buttery popcorn fills the air, trumpets roar, and cotton candy melts on the tongue. The circus is about to begin.
Among the delighted spectators is DebraJo Myers, who nominated the circus as one of the Nicest Places in America. As a teenager, she used to fly through the air here with the greatest of ease. Now she watches kiddie clowns spill into the arena, trying to remember their choreography (编舞). Unicyclists pedal out next, forming long chorus lines that rotate (旋转) like clock hands. Then comes the flying trapeze (吊杠). Star aerialist Kevin Nord flips and twists above the crowd before diving toward his friend’s outstretched hands. Caught! The applause is for him, for all 200 youth performers, and for the 400 volunteers who make the show possible.
Since 1960, generation after generation of Peru-area kids have taken their turn in the ring, often returning as volunteers. Peru circus Center Arena stands a block from the railway tracks that still bisect (平分) this small city. In the 19th and early 20th centuries, major circuses made Peru their winter headquarters, bringing performers and animal performers like elephants, zebras, hippos, and camels. By World War II the circus trains departed, but many performers stayed. “The circus is what makes us who we are, ” says Myers.
For today’s young people, the circus is also a refuge. Kids practice from February through summer, guided by adults who genuinely care. “There are plenty of kids who don’t have good situations at home, ” says former aerialist Jason Yoo Myers knows the feeling. At 11, facing divorce, loss and instability, circus practice became her safe place. Late-night lock-ins let kids bond not just as performers, but as people.
Showtime again. Nord. now a Purdue engineering student, flies with the confidence that someone will catch him. His fellow aerialists— some former classmates he barely knew— are now the people he trusts most. During the 65th-anniversary show, “Make It Shine,” he appears in his sparkly cape (斗篷) , ready to twist and tumble. When he sticks the landing, the audience cheers. When he doesn’t, they cheer louder.
66.Why does the author open the story with vivid sensory details?

D.To suggest the lively scene may distract spectators

From Africa to Europe to the US to China, record temperatures and low rainfall have been causing problems. Droughts aren’t new, but global warming is making them much harder to avoid.
The drought in Africa may be the most serious situation. The dry conditions have killed millions of farm animals and destroyed the crops of farmers. The United Nations has warned that as many as 22 million people in the area are in danger of starving (挨饿).
Almost two thirds of Europe is affected by the worst drought there in 500 years. With temperatures reaching 104° Fahrenheit (F) (40℃) and hotter, many crops have been damaged. The drought is causing — energy problems in Europe. too. The low water levels have cut the amount of hydroelectric (使用水力发电的) power. Some rivers are so low that the heavy boats that carry coal can’t travel on them.
In the US, the country’s two largest reservoirs (水库), Lake Mead and LakePowell, are fed by the Colorado River. But they are at record low levels. The reservoirs are used to create hydroelectric energy. That could end if water levels drop further. California has put limits on water use across the state. When there are water limits, farmers aren’t able to grow as many crops. That can drive up food prices, and that affects everyone.
China is facing similar problems. It has also been affected by a terrible drought with temperatures as high as 113°F (45°C). The drought has dried up much of the water in the Yangtze, China’s longest river.

If you adopt pets in a foreign country, can you bring them to your home country? China’s new Biosafety Law, which went into effect on April 15, answers this question.
The law introduced regulations (规定) in eight areas, including infectious (传染性的) disease prevention and control, biotechnology, and the prevention of invasive (入侵的) species.
Biosafety is important for people’s health, environmental protection and national interests (国家利益), said Qin Tianbao, director of the Research Institute of Environmental Law at Wuhan University.
Take biological invasion (生物入侵) as an example. China has suffered from biological invasion. The country has more than 660 alien species. Seventy-one of them have harmed or could harm the natural ecological system, CGTN reported. This results in economic losses of 200 billion yuan every year.
For example, the apple snail, introduced from Central America 40 years ago, is still a headache in Guangdong. After being set free in the wild, the snail has polluted water with its feces (粪便), eaten vegetables and fruit, and made animals sick. It has now spread to 21 cities throughout Guangdong, destroying large areas of farmland, according to Guangdong Agricultural Sciences.
Other examples include red-eared slider (巴西龟), the scavenger fish (清道夫鱼) and red imported fire ants in southern China. Biological invasion can happen naturally, but it is more often a result of human activity.
The new law makes it clear that bringing alien plants or animals into China without approval (批准) is not allowed. Foreign animal species are not allowed to be set free in China. Those who break the law will be fined up to 250,000 yuan.
Both the government and people are responsible for biosafety, Qin pointed out. “It is down to earth and close to everyone’s life.”

61.How does Lettrs work according to the text?
A.By providing real paper for letter writers.
B.By making room for people to write letters.

A.is one of the purists
B.prefers writing to typing
C.always hopes to get paper letters
D.likes using Lettrs to write letters
63.A Lettrs user can find a newly received letter in or on a “_________”.
A.desk drawer B.fridge
C.kitchen counter D.shoebox
64.What is the main purpose of the author writing the text?
A.To advise readers to use Lettrs.
B.To tell readers how to write letters.
C.To persuade readers to write letters.
D.To show the advantage of the Internet.

A.An old art of letter writing.
B.A new service of letter writing.

A.To contrast the noisy circus with the quiet town.
B.To draw the readers into the festive atmosphere.
C.To highlight the commercial success of the circus.
D.To suggest the lively scene may distract spectators
67.What role does Debra Jo Myers play in the passage?
A.She explains why performers often become volunteers.
B.She reflects how personal experience shapes local cultural identity.
C.She highlights the historical roots of the circus in the town.
D.She illustrates how individual memory sustains a collective tradition.
68.Which of the following best explains why the circus serves as a refuge for many children?
A.It allows them to escape from school pressure and perform freely.
B.It creates a stable community where adults care about their wellbeing.
C.It helps them quickly develop professional circus career.
D.It offers financial assistance to families suffering poverty.
69.The audience cheering louder when Nord fails suggests that ________.
A.Performance quality matters more. B.Celebration is central to local culture.
C.Effort and courage deserve recognition. D.Failure is part of the amateur shows.
70.What would be the best title for the passage?
A.Flying High: The Rise of a New circus Star
B.How a Small Town Built a World-Class circus
C.Peru’s circus: A Tradition That holds a Town Together
D.Behind the Big Top: The secrets of circus Techniques

It took years to create the climate change, and it will take a long time to get it under control. For now, governments and people will need to carefully manage water supplies and other resources to limit the damage as much as possible.
71.What makes droughts harder to avoid?
A.Low rainfall B.Record temperatures.
C.Global warming. D.Outdated agriculture.
72.What has been warned by the United Nations?
A.The death of farm animals in Africa. B.The possible starving in Africa.
C.The worst drought in Europe. D.The energy shortage in Europe.
73.What has been done to deal with the drought in California?
A.Repairing the old reservoirs. B.Increasing the food prices.
C.Cutting hydroelectric power. D.Reducing the amount of water use.
74.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Efforts in different countries. B.Expectations for future studies.
C.Difficulties in achieving success. D.Suggestions about solving the problem.
75.What’s the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To show us the impact of global warming.
B.To explain the reasons for global warming.
C.To stress the importance of hydroelectric power.
D.To call on the people to carefully manage resources.

This kind of book can be found in many school bookstores and libraries. Now generally, the story notes has about one hundred and eighty pages. A copy usually weigh around two hundred to two hundred and fifty grams in march, students often borrowed to read during breaks in may, it's popular for group discussions and literature classes. When final exams come in july, some students use IT to relax between studying the book, tell stories about high school students. When a new term starts, the main characters join the school star gazing club. Once they're familiar with the club activities, they start planning a star themed show. It's hard to put down this book because the stories feel real. You can almost imagine being part of their adventures. Also, the writing is clear and the pictures inside are beautiful. What makes the story notes different from other teen books? Its cover a sky blue in spring and changes to deep purple in winter, and the pages have tiny stars that shine underline. Hi everyone.
