Grandma Wang has lived in our community for over 20 years. At the age of 60, she decided to open a free “community reading corner” for the children in the neighborhood.
At first, the reading corner was just a small room in her house, with only 20 books she collected herself. Many people around her thought she was 1 . “You are already 60 years old. Why do you take so much trouble?” they said. But Grandma Wang never 2 . She said, “I love reading, and I want to help the children here fall in love with reading too. Many of their parents work outside, and they have no one to read with them.”
Every day, Grandma Wang opens the reading corner at 4 p.m. after school. She cleans the room, tidies the bookshelves, and 3 the books carefully. When the children come, she always greets them with a warm smile. She not only 4 books to the children, but also reads stories to the little kids. For the older children, she often 5 them to read different kinds of books, from classic novels to science books.
Last year, a little girl called Xiao Hong came to the reading corner. She was very 6 and never talked to others. Grandma Wang found that she loved picture books, so she sat beside her and read stories to her every day. Little by little, Xiao Hong began to 7 with Grandma Wang, and later she even made friends with other children in the reading corner.
Now, the reading corner has more than 800 books. Many kind people 8 books to the corner, and some college students even come to be volunteer teachers here every weekend. Grandma Wang is 9 busier than before, but she says she is happier than ever.
“Reading can light up a child’s world. 10 I can help one more child fall in love with reading, everything I do is worth it,” Grandma Wang often says. For the children in the community, Grandma Wang’s reading corner is not just a room full of books, but a warm home full of 11 and care.
Now, at the age of 70, Grandma Wang is still keeping the reading corner open every day. She says she will 12 doing this as long as she can. Her kindness and love for reading have 13 many people around her. More and more people begin to join her, to bring the joy of reading to more children.
This is the story of Grandma Wang, a common but great woman. She uses her own way to show us the 14 of reading and kindness. She tells us that even a small action can make a big 15 to other people’s lives.

I was 8 that my boys would make too much noise. But to my 9 , the people we served were quite thankful that I had brought them. Many said how fun it was to have 10 children around.
