Dear Tom,
I am writing to invite you to visit my hometown, Xi’an, and try our traditional foods. Xi’an is an ancient city in central China, famous for its rich history and delicious local dishes.
Let me introduce a few of my favorites. The first is roujiamo, often called “Chinese hamburger.” It is made of soft bread with juicy, slow-cooked pork inside. It tastes savory and a little spicy. Another is liangpi, cold noodles made from wheat flour. They are chewy, sour, and spicy — perfect for hot summer days. But my favorite is yangrou paomo, a lamb soup with pieces of bread. You tear the bread into small pieces, then the waiter pours hot lamb soup over it. The bread soaks up the soup and becomes incredibly tasty. Legend says this dish was invented by Emperor Zhao Kuangyin over a thousand years ago!
The best time to visit is during the Spring Festival. That’s when every family makes these dishes at home. I can’t wait to take you to the Muslim Street, where you can try all of them in one night. You will eat like a true Xi’an local!
