Why do leaves turn red, yellow, or orange in autumn? Every time we walk through parks or forests, these colorful leaves paint the world with warmth and fascination. Have you ever wondered why this happens? It’s all about science and nature’s magic.
Leaves are like small “food factories” for trees. During spring and summer, they make food using sunlight, water, and chlorophyll (叶绿素). It gives leaves their bright green color and works hard to keep trees growing. This food-making process is very important for trees to live. Chlorophyll needs plenty of sunlight to work well, so leaves stay green when days are long and warm.
With the arrival of autumn, days get shorter and the temperature drops. Trees slow down their food-making process to save energy for winter. The chlorophyll breaks down and disappears gradually, bringing out other colors that were hidden before. Yellow and orange come from natural coloring matters called carotenoids (类胡萝卜素), which are always in leaves but masked by green. Red and purple are made when trees produce anthocyanins (花青素) to protect leaves from cold. The amount of sunlight and rain in late autumn also influences how bright these colors are — more sunny days often lead to richer reds.
Finally, the leaves fall off because trees stop sending water and food to them. This natural process helps trees live through the cold winter. The fallen leaves then turn into food for the soil, helping trees grow new leaves next spring.
Autumn leaf colors are not just pretty — they are nature’s smart way of preparing for the changing seasons. It is a wonderful example of how plants get used to the world around them.

On a cold rainy morning, a little ant went out early to look for food for its whole family. The heavy rain last night made the ground wet and soft. It washed away almost all the food on the ground. The ant had to walk much farther than usual, moving slowly through the wet grass. It was tired and hungry, but it knew it couldn’t stop, because its family was waiting for food at home.
After walking for a long time, the ant came to a quiet corner of the wall. There, it saw a spider sitting comfortably on its web. The web was clean and strong, with several small insects on it. The spider didn’t need to run here and there. It just stayed quietly and waited for its food.
The ant felt a little sad and looked at the spider with envy. “You are so lucky,” the ant said. “You have a warm and safe web, and you can get food without any hard work. But I have to walk in the cold rain and search everywhere just to get a little food. It’s really unfair.”
The spider smiled and told the ant its story. “When the weather was sunny and warm, I worked very hard to spin my web. The wind often blew the thin threads away, and I had to try again and again. It was not easy at all. Sometimes I felt tired, but I never gave up. Now I can enjoy the fruit of my hard work.”
The ant kept quiet and thought deeply. It realized that the spider’s easy life was not by chance. It came from much hard work and strong patience. The ant no longer felt sad. It cheered up and decided to keep trying.
Soon the sun came out and the rain stopped. The ant kept on searching carefully and finally found enough food. It carried the food back home happily, with a new understanding in its heart.

In August 2025, 280 robot teams from 16 countries gathered in Beijing for the first World Humanoid (人形) Robot Games. They competed in football, athletics, dance, and martial arts (武术). It looked like science fiction — but it was very real.
Behind the fun lies a serious competition between nations. China is taking the lead. According to Omdia, about 13,000 humanoid robots were shipped worldwide in 2025. Of these, 87% came from Chinese companies. American companies like Tesla held just 1%. The difference is huge and growing.
How did China get so far ahead? One answer is strategy (策略). While some Western companies focus on industrial robots, many Chinese companies build robots for “edutainment”—education and entertainment. These robots dance in malls and perform at sports events.
At first, this might seem less important. But experts say it has a deeper purpose. By putting thousands of robots into real-world use, Chinese companies collect valuable data about power, life and movement. This helps them improve technology quickly.
This strategy also creates a supply chain (供应链). Producing thousands of robots requires many parts. This builds an industry ecosystem. As production increases, costs come down. China is making robots cheaper and better.
However, hardware (硬件) is only half the story. Robots also need software — the “brain” that controls them. In March 2026, China introduced a new national standard for robot control systems. For the first time, different robots can share the same “brain”.
This standard was developed by many universities and companies including Huawei. It means a factory robot could be reprogrammed to work on a farm. Software can be reused like building blocks.
The robot race is about shaping the future. As robots enter homes and hospitals, the leading country will help decide how humans and machines live together. For now, China’s strategy is working. The robots dancing on stage today may be the ones helping in homes tomorrow. The race has just begun, and China is running fast.
61.What is the main purpose of paragraph 1?
A.To list all the sports in the Robot Games. B.To describe what the robots look like.
C.To introduce the Robot Games held in China. D.To predict the future of robot technology.
62.What advantage does China’s “edutainment” strategy bring?
A.It enables robots to be more intelligent. B.It focuses more on factory robots.
C.It helps collect useful performance data. D.It reduces the need for robot parts.
63.Why is the new national standard important?
A.It makes all robots look the same. B.It allows different robots to share software.
C.It stops foreign robots entering China. D.It increases the cost of robot production.
64.What does the writer think of China’s future in robotics?
A.Promising. B.Stuck. C.Educational. D.Uncertain.
65.In which section of a newspaper can we probably read the text?
A.Entertainment. B.Education. C.Science fiction. D.Technology.

Peer pressure (同伴压力) is when your friends influence you to do something. It can be hard to say no, especially when you want to be part of the group. Lots of teens go through this. 66 . For example, it can make you do things you know are wrong and feel bad about yourself. Here are some good ways to deal with peer pressure well.

· Speak up and stand strong
Say “no” clearly and honestly when you don’t like something. 69 . Walk away bravely if you need to. You might even earn your peers’ respect by being true to yourself and staying away from the pressure. This way, you won’t be pulled into things you don’t want to do.
Peer pressure is not always bad though. 70 . The key is to stick to your beliefs and choose friends who bring out the best in you.

51.How does the writer begin the passage?

· Be the boss of your own actions
Teens often feel they have to follow others to get along. Friends might say, “It’s no big deal!” or “Everyone’s doing it.” 67 . If you always let others decide for you, you give away your power. Trust your feelings. Don’t let peer pressure push you around. You’re in control of what you do.· 68
Every choice you make shapes your life. So, think about the benefits and drawbacks first. Is it worth feeling bad about yourself? Will it get you into trouble at school or even with the law? Doing the right thing alone is hard, but it’s never too early to own your choices.
A.Make smart choices
B.Peer pressure can bring you many problems
C.But these words don’t make wrong choices okay
D.And don’t just use words—let your feet do the talking
E.It sometimes helps you grow and get support from friends
【答案】66.B 67.C 68.A 69.D 70.E
66.根据后文“For example, it can make you do things you know are wrong and feel bad about yourself.” B“Peer pressure can bring you many problems”符合语境。
67.根据前文“Friends might say, ‘It’s no big deal!’ or ‘Everyone’s doing it.’” C“But these words don’t make wrong choices okay”承接前文,点明不能因他人劝说就做错事。
68.根据后文“Every choice you make shapes your life. So, think about the benefits and drawbacks first.”
69.根据前文“Say ‘no’ clearly and honestly when you don’t like something.”以及后文“Walk away bravely if you need to.” D“And don’t just use words—let your feet do the talking”承接前文,与后文“走开”的行动呼应。
70.根据前文“Peer pressure is not always bad though.” E“It sometimes helps you grow and get support from friends”承接前文,解释其积极意义。

73.A: ______ Doubao ______?
B: It’s used for helping us get useful suggestions.
What is used for
74.A: Would you like to be a greener person?
B: __________________________________________________.
Yes, I’d love to

Ning Zhongyan made Olympic history for China at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics. He won the men’s 1500m speed skating gold medal with an Olympic-record time.It was China’s first-ever Olympic gold in this event.
Before this great 81 (achieve), Ning won two bronze medals (铜牌) at these Games. For the 26-year-old skater, the victory was the fruit of years of hard work and strong belief. Success never comes 82 (easy). Back in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, he only finished the 83 (seven) place, and he once thought the Olympic gold was beyond his reach. “The level of speed skating kept rising, and it felt like there was 84 high mountain before me that I could never cross.” Ning recalled.
However, he never gave up his dream. He told 85 (he) to stay patient and keep working hard. He hoped that all his efforts would pay off one day 86 the end. “I never stopped believing in myself. That’s what really mattered.”he said,“Before the race,I kept reminding myself 87 (trust) my abilities. If you don’t believe in yourself, you’ve already lost.”When he 88 (ask) about his feeling after the race, Ning said he felt a great sense of relief “Finally crossing that mountain made me so happy and 89 (thank),”he said, still finding it a little hard to believe his dream came true.
Ning’s victory is a great breakthrough (突破) for Chinese speed skating. His example inspires (激励) young people to keep fighting for their dreams 90 it proves that every difficulty can be overcome. With hard work and strong belief, every dream can come true.
81.achievement 82.easily 83.seventh 84.a 85.himself 86.in 87.to trust 88.was asked 89.thankful 90.and
空前的形容词great(伟大的)修饰名词,因此需将动词achieve(实现、取得)转换为名词形式achievement(成就);结合语境中this great的限定,用单数形式。
句中动词comes(到来)需要副词修饰,因此需将形容词easy(容易的)转换为副词形式easily(轻易地、容易地),表示 “轻易地到来”。
remind sb. to do sth.
