Do you enjoy singing in your free time? We often hear that singing is good for our physical and mental (心理的) health. Is that true? 1
Singing improves our lung health. Most people hardly use their full lung capacity (肺活量). Singing needs controlled breathing, and that improves lung capacity. 2
Singing helps people reduce anxiety (焦虑). When you sing, you are managing how you breathe in and out. Breathing in this way is similar to the breathing exercises used in yoga. It helps relax the body and calm the mind.
3 Many people get nervous at the thought of performing in public. However, singing in a group can make the experience easier and more enjoyable. Standing straight helps you reach high notes more easily and makes you feel more confident about yourself.
Singing also builds a sense of community. It’s a great group activity. 4 It creates a warm feeling of togetherness.
Finally, singing allows people to express their feelings well. 5 Whether you are happy or sad, singing is a natural and powerful way to show your feelings.

If you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk all day long, you may experience lower back pain. 1 Then how can they deal with it?
Taking short breaks to stand and walk around is helpful. 2 The good news is that there is an easier way to help reduce lower back pain. It’s called “seated salsa”. Just like salsa dancing, your hips (髋) move forward and back when you do it.
To perform seated salsa, you should sit up straight and keep your feet on the floor. 3 Without moving your shoulders, you should push your right knee forward and pull your left knee back. Then, push your left knee forward and pull your right knee back. Repeat this movement for one minute.
4 In it, patients with lower back pain performed seated salsa while a machine recorded their muscle tightness (肌肉紧张). The results showed that doing just one minute of seated salsa every 30 minutes helped relax muscles and reduce pain.
Seated salsa is also useful for old people. 5 So, try a little seated salsa and keep your lower back pain-free.
A. This condition troubles lots of people.
B. Moving can be very difficult when you are in pain.

Many people feel sick when using their phones in cars or buses. This common problem, known as motion (运动) sickness, happens because your brain gets mixed signals. 1 But your eyes are focused on the static (静止的) phone screen. This mismatch is what causes the discomfort.
2 However, drivers usually don’t experience it because they look at the road and need to turn in time, so their eyes and balance system receive matching signals.
While some phones say they have apps to help, the best solutions are simple. 3
Look at the horizon (地平线): Try to look far ahead, out the front window. This helps your eyes see the motion your body feels.
Choose a good seat: 4
Get fresh air: Open a window a little to reduce discomfort.
Avoid certain things: Don’t read or watch screens. It’s also better not to eat a heavy meal right before or during travel.
For longer trips, taking breaks to walk around can be helpful.
5 Understanding why motion sickness happens helps us manage it better. By making a few simple changes to what we look at and where we sit, we can enjoy more comfortable journeys.
A. This feeling is often worse for passengers.
B. Here are the most helpful tips from health experts.
C. Passengers who like to sleep in the car usually don’t experience it.
D. Your inner ear, which helps with balance, senses the car’s movement.
E. If these ways don’t work, you can also ask doctors for more effective (有效的) means.

Would you be brave enough to cross a bridge that touches the clouds? In Guizhou, China, there is an amazing one called the Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge. This bridge is a true wonder. 1 It is also the largest-span (跨度) bridge ever built in a mountainous area.
Guizhou is a place with many mountains and canyons (峡谷). 2 Now, the trip takes only two minutes. The bridge helps people travel more easily and lower costs for businesses.
The bridge also offers fun activities for visitors. A high-speed glass elevator can take people up to a clifftop coffee shop in the clouds. The shop owner says that looking down at the mountains while having coffee “feels like drinking with nature”. 3
Building the bridge was full of challenges, including changeable weather, rocky mountains, and strong winds. But engineers used new technologies to get over these problems. 4 They also put “smart cables” on the bridge that act as the bridge's nervous system (神经系统), checking its structural health all the time. These new ways helped the project get 21 patents (专利).
5 It is a great example of China's excellent engineering and a wonderful symbol of progress in the mountains of Guizhou.
A. Before opening, the bridge had a strict safety test.
B. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is more than just a bridge.
C. They used a smart cable crane (缆索起重机) system and strong steel wires.
D. Before people built the bridge, driving across the canyon took about two hours.

People who practised five acts of kindness in a day bring short-term happiness. Show thanks. Writing down three things that went well at the end of each day brings long-term happiness.
Another scientist believes 40 percent of your happiness depends on your choices. Your daily habits and hobbies play a role in happiness. 5 Don’t push yourself to be happy all the time.
