During this year’s summer holiday, I flew from Beijing to London, the UK.
When I arrived in London, I felt perplexed (不知所措的) and anxious because of the seven-hour time difference, the new language, the buildings and the lively crowds at the train station.
I joined a girls’ middle school and learned many new things there through the five-day course. I felt lonely and helpless at first because my vocabulary was poor.
This feeling continued until a PE class changed everything. Some girls smiled and invited me to join in their baseball game. Even though I had never played baseball before, I decided to give it a try and managed to hit the ball on my first try. At that moment, time seemed to stop, and then cheers broke out all around me. The other girls hugged me and shouted, “Hey, Amy. You did an amazing job!” From then on, I felt truly happy and relaxed, and I really began to fit in with others.
That experience helped me see the bridge between London and my hometown, Tianjin—a bridge built with care and love. We may not come from the same country or have the same skin color, but love brings us all together. This lesson continues to hold great importance in my life.

Marathon pacers (马拉松配速员), sometimes also called “rabbits”, are usually great runners. They run at a set pace (速度) and help a group of runners finish the race in their projected (预定的) time. They usually hold a sign or a balloon with the time in which they’re trying to finish the race.
There are usually between 10 and 15 pacers in a marathon. Each of them leads a different pace group. For example, a smaller marathon might have pace groups every 15 minutes. A larger marathon might have pace groups every 5 minutes.
It’s necessary to run with a pacer. First of all, they can help you run at the right pace. With a pacer, you don’t have to think too much about your pace. You just need to keep up with your pacer.
Marathon pacers do more than that. They can encourage you to keep going when you go through the hardest part of the race. In fact, many marathon runners hit their best times by following a pacer.
It’s not easy to become a marathon pacer. You must have experience of running marathons and be able to pace a race correctly.

A. To make sure you start the race quickly.
B. To allow you to rest more during the race.
C. To help you keep a certain pace during the race.
D. To provide you with a chance to join the race for free.
49. What is the purpose of the passage?

根据答语“The boy’s kite is stuck in the tree. Let’s go and help him!”

前文“With only twenty yuan”强调价格低,后文“home-cooked taste”暗示营养健康,因此“healthy”最符合。
下文“they are appearing around us”说明数量增多、覆盖面广,正是“受欢迎”的表现。
“within a 10-minute walk”是固定说法,表示步行距离。
taking out“拿出”,walking into“走进”,staring at“盯着”,均不能表达“吸引”之意。故填drawing in。
故填because。
后文“more and more people are attracted here”的主要原因是价格低。

上文给出了很多保护听力的建议,结合“you won’t worry about your hearing when you are old”可知,此处建议我们要遵循上面的这些建议,用Follow“遵循,听从”。

Doing Wuzu Quan needs a lot of patience and hard work. Learners have to learn to breathe and move well, making sure each hit and kick is exact and strong. However, Wuzu Quan is more than just fighting. It also teaches you the importance of the respect (尊重) for others and makes you feel a strong sense of community among its practitioners (练习者).
In recent years, Wuzu Quan has become increasingly popular among young people in China. Many schools now offer Wuzu Quan classes as part of their after-school activities. This allows students to learn this traditional martial art as well as to stay healthy.
In short, Wuzu Quan is a valuable and important martial art. It has a long history and special moves that make it very interesting and useful for anyone who wants to know more about China’s cultural heritage (遗产).
