However, they have long faced a challenging problem. They need to maintain tight contact between the solid electrolyte (电解质) and the lithium metal electrode (锂金属电极). Now, Chinese scientists have made a breakthrough. They developed a self-adaptive layer, called an interface. This layer can actively attract lithium ions (锂离子), which then automatically fill all tiny gaps and holes, much like self-healing. This maintains tight contact between the electrode and electrolyte without needing external pressure. It decisively overcome a major bottleneck toward commercialization. Traditional methods required heavy equipment to press the parts together constantly, making batteries too big and heavy for practical use. The researchers from the Institute of Physics of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Ningbo Institute of Materials Technology and Engineering of the CAS and Huazhong University of Science and Technology found that the contact between the lithium electrode and the solid electrolyte in all-solid-state lithium batteries is not ideal. There are numerous tiny holes and gaps present. These issues not only shorten battery lifespan but may also pose safety risks. To address this challenge, the team of researchers introduced iodide ions (碘离子) into the solid electrolyte. During battery operation, these ions move to the electrode interface under the electric field. They form an iodine-rich interface. The interface can actively attract lithium ions to fill all gaps automatically, ensuring tight contact like a self-repairing process. Test batteries made with this technology showed stable, high performance even after hundreds of charge-discharge cycles — far better than similar batteries today. This advance could lead to batteries with energy density (密度) over 500 Wh/kg and could double the battery life of devices. The breakthrough will speed up the development of high-energy all-solid-state batteries for use in human-like robots, electric planes, electric vehicles and other fields, providing safer and more efficient energy solutions. “This study fundamentally solves the key bottleneck problem that was holding back the commercialization of all-solid-state batteries, marking a decisive step toward their practical application”, said Wang Chunsheng, a battery expert at the University of Maryland. 31.What has been the main difficulty in developing all-solid-state lithium batteries? A.Their very high production cost. B.Making them work without any electricity. C.Finding enough lithium metal sources. D.Keeping their internal parts tightly together. 32.What is special about the new self-adaptive layer? A.It is made from extremely rare minerals. B.It can repair gaps by itself during use. C.It works only under very high pressure. D.It replaces the need for lithium ions. 33.What is a key advantage of the new battery design in testing? A.It can be fully charged in just seconds. B.It stays stable over hundreds of cycles. C.It can work without any electrolyte material. D.It is made from much cheaper raw materials. 34.Which statement best reflects expert Wang Chunsheng’s view of the breakthrough? A.It is only a small step in battery research. B.It is too expensive for real-world application. C.It solves the main barrier to commercial use. D.It is the final step before mass production. 35.What is the main purpose of the passage? A.To introduce a breakthrough in battery technology. B.To explain how lithium batteries are produced. C.To compare different kinds of energy storage. D.To warn about safety risks in old batteries. 根据第一段“However, they have long faced a challenging problem. They had trouble doing marketing, dealing with money, and growing their projects, making it difficult for actual products to appear. For many teenagers, this is a common situation,” Aryan said. Therefore, Aryan created LaunchPad — a free digital platform (数字平台) aimed at helping students learn necessary skills for the future and build real-world projects. “We waited a month to launch (发布) it because I wanted everything to look just right. I was afraid to fail. But the first step to any creation is never perfect. Once you put it out there and start getting suggestions and reviews from the users, you’ll make improvements accordingly,” Aryan said. Through videos, expert interviews, and presentations, LaunchPad helps students learn these skills in a fun way. The platform also offers guidance programs, where students are paired with volunteers who guide them based on their interests. For example, a student interested in robots might be connected with a volunteer who is good at that area. It’s really about providing first-hand advice and instruction during their project-building journey. Armaan, a 14-year-old student at Pathways School, developed skills in design thinking, business plans, and problem-solving through LaunchPad. He tells how the program’s focus on soft skills, like storytelling and communication, has allowed him to better present himself. “I’m working on developing skills that will aid me in choosing the right career,” he said, with a particular interest in computer science. Looking back on his journey, Aryan can’t wait to share his experience with other students. “ Sometimes, we overthink our ideas. The best projects often come from simple ideas that you deeply care about, and the best way to learn is by doing. Focus on what excites you, and you’ll be amazed at what you can create,” he said. 36.Many of Aryan’s friends found it difficult to ________. B While developing an app a couple of years ago, Aryan Nangia, a Class 12 student at Pathways School, Gurugram, India, saw some problems. “Over the course of time, I noticed that many of my friends had great ideas for things they wanted to build, but they only remained at the idea level. A.gain design skills B .put ideas into practice C.balance study and projects D.understand customers’ needs 37.What does Aryan consider important to his platform? A.Learning from other teams’ failures. B.Making progress based on users’ opinions. C.Planning every part of product development. D.Collecting students’ questions before launching. 38.What does paragraph 3 stress about LaunchPad’s teaching method? A.It follows a fixed schedule. B.It depends on online games. C.It allows personalized support. D.It requires high-tech teaching tools 39.How does Armaan feel about his learning through LaunchPad? A.Valuable. B.Interesting. C.Difficult. D.Boring. 40.What is Aryan’s suggestion for other students? A.Focus on creative ideas. B.Act on your own interests. C.Open your mind to new challenges. D.Think twice before making decisions.
