“When I grow up, I want to be...”
Almost all of us have thought about, or been asked to think about, our future careers. Our answers may differ greatly. Even now your aspirations may have changed from when you were in primary school.
However, it seems career options aren’t only based on personal taste. In a survey carried out by teens, doctors, lawyers, and bankers were some of most popular careers that people said they hoped to follow. This is in line with a similar survey carried out in the U. K. in May 2011 by job website monster, co. uk, in which medicine was the top choice among U. K. teenagers aged between 13 and 17.
Medicine and law are two of the oldest and best known professions. Their prestige may come from the fact that doctors and lawyers are some of the most esteemed members of society and they make good money. Joining these high-profile professions is often seen as a sign of upward social, mobility.
It is equally unsurprising that banking is now one of the most common career choices. Youngsters worldwide think of banking and see the money rolling in. Wealth is increasingly becoming one of the most important indicators of a successful career. British young men list the U. K. tycoon Alan Sugar, Microsoft founder Bill Gates and Facebook chief Mark Zuckerberg as their top role models “for their wealth”. Just as Chinese teenagers see being a banker as a good and fun pathway to “wealth”.
However, not every child has the makings of doctor, lawyer, or banker. They are those who see fulfillment and happiness in other areas, and many teenagers dare to ink more individuality into their career options. As the Teens’ survey discovered, a variety of unconventional jobs — coffee shop owner, gourmet (美食家), waiter at a fast food restaurant — are among teenagers’ career choices. They can be equally interesting and rewarding jobs.
With every choice comes responsibility and challenge, and all career paths require specific education and training, you have to learn to balance optimism and confidence with being realistic about your particular talents and skills.
36.What is the passage mainly about?
A.Choosing a good job is very important. B.Careers in teenagers’ mind.
C.Teenagers in the U. K. like doctors. D.The choice of career needs challenge.
37.What is the top career choice among U. K. teenagers aged between 13 and 17 according to the article?
A.Bank. B.Law. C.Medicine. D.Education.
38.According to the article, all of the following are the benefits of being a doctor EXCEPT ________.
A.respect from others B.upward social mobility
C.high pay D.the oldest profession
39.What do youngsters think is increasingly becoming one of the most important indicators of a successful career?
A.Prestige. B.Fulfillment. C.Happiness. D.Wealth.
40.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.According to your particular talents and skills, you can choose your favorite career.
B.Specific education and training can help get a good job.
C.Whatever career you choose, you should balance optimism and confidence with being realistic about your particular talents and skills.
D.Responsibility is the most important when you choose a good job.

We all experience stress(压力) at some point. 41
No one can “make” you feel anything.
The way you deal with a situation is a choice. You can ask yourself “Is this something I can change?” 42 If the situation cannot be changed, accept it and find ways to deal with it. In this way, stress can be greatly reduced.
Exchange attitude for gratitude(感恩).
Our attitude has a big influence on how we deal with situations. 43 Instead of being angry about the traffic, find some gratitude. Think of things you can be thankful for.
Relax, relax, relax.
44 It will help you relax and make you better prepared to deal with stressful situations.
45
Look at your stressful situation from a “big picture” point of view. Ask yourself “How important is this?” and “Will this matter in the long run?” If the answer is no, it’s likely not worth your time and energy.
A.Look at the big picture.
B.If so, start doing something to change the situation.
C.When you are stuck in traffic, change your attitude.
D.Try to find something that you enjoy and do it every day.
E.Here are four points to consider when dealing with stressful situations.
【答案】41.E 42.B 43.C 44.D 45.A
Here are four points to consider when dealing with stressful situations(在处理压力情况时,有四点需要考虑)统领全文。故选E。
42.根据空格前一句“You can ask yourself “Is this something I can change?”(可以问问自己“我能改变吗?”)” If so, start doing something to change the situation(如果是这样,开始做点什么来改变这种情况)就是对上文进行肯定的回答,此处的so指代上文的问题。故选B。
43.根据空格下文“Instead of being angry about the traffic, find some gratitude(与其为交通而生气,不如心怀感激)”可知,上文应该讲述遇到交通问题时的态度。所以C项When you are stuck in traffic, change your attitude(当你遇到交通堵塞时,改变你的态度)引出下文。故选C。
Try to find something that you enjoy and do it every day(试着找到你喜欢做的事情,每天都做)就是很好的放松方法。故选D。
45.根据下文“Look at your stressful situation from a “big picture” point of view(从“大局”的角度来看你的压力状况)”可知,本段主要讲述要从大局观来看待压力。所以A项Look at the big picture(放眼大局)符合本段大意。故选A。

QR code ordering is now popular across Chinese 53 (restaurant). Yet in this noodle shop, the modern convenience truly plays an empowering role. 46.
故填are greeted。
故填and。
故填which。
enable sb. to do sth. 故填to work。

Mary’s uncle Ted was an engineer. He told her great stories about the rockets he helped design, and he often brought Mary science books. He also taught her some knowledge about space. Mary loved technology and science, and she was also adventurous For those reasons, Mary’s family kept telling her she should be an astronaut when she grew up, but she just wasn’t sure.
One Saturday, Mary and Uncle Ted went to visit the Science Museum. They watched a show on space travel. Uncle Ted told her something interesting about spaceships and space suits. But she was most interested in two model robot arms and tried operating (操作)them. She stayed there all day and felt very excited.
By the time they got on the bus to return home, Mary was very tired. Closing her eyes, she was thinking about what it would be like to fly into space. As she nearly fell asleep, Mary started to feel the weightlessness that astronauts must feel when they are in zero gravity (重力). The next thing she knew, she was looking out the window not of a bus but of a spaceship. Mary was operating a huge robot arm outside the spaceship. She felt nervous. But she kept at it. Soon she succeeded. She felt proud of herself.
Just then, Mary heard Uncle Ted’s voice. “Wake up, my dear! We’re back home now.” When she opened her eyes, she realized she had been dreaming, but she knew this for sure — she wanted to be an astronaut one day and couldn’t wait for her first trip into space.

The way you deal with a situation is a choice. You can ask yourself “Is this something I can change?” 42 If the situation cannot be changed, accept it and find ways to deal with it. In this way, stress can be greatly reduced.

Relax, relax, relax.
44 It will help you relax and make you better prepared to deal with stressful situations.
