As we send more and more people into space through space travel and other space projects, it’s an important question to ask. Students from a school in Canada had a question about life-saving epinephrine (肾上腺素): Would it work in space? The students knew that radiation (辐射) in space can be bad for astronauts. They wanted to know whether the same thing would happen to medicines. With the help of their teachers, the students started an experiment (实验) to check it. The students worked with Dr. Paul Mayer, a scientist at the University of Ottawa. First, they put epinephrine into bottles. Then the bottles went into space on a NASA spaceship. After the bottles returned to the Earth, Dr. Mayer and his team checked the epinephrine. They found the epinephrine had changed. “It was a shock to us,” said Dr. Mayer. “I didn’t think there would be any changes to the epinephrine before the experiment. The discovery the students made is important. It suggests that epinephrine might not work in space, and might even become dangerous.” The students are very glad to have made such an important discovery. One of the students, Raina Smith, says doing the experiment has shown her that with hard work and love, and putting your 100% into anything, you can make your dreams come true. 28. It’s an excellent movement,” Perrin said. Now, Perrin also gives lessons and spreads knowledge of qigong and tai chi to his friends. “I love Chinese culture, and I hope it can help more people,” he said. He had a meaningful trip in China. B. He travelled by ship around the world. C. He made some friends from Europe. D. He will lead Guizhou people to France. D 33. C 34. D 35. 根据“As the sun poured down on the trees and waters of a running river under Mount Fanjingshan, Yves Perrin, 62, dressed in his tai chi clothes and sat beside water, practicing traditional Chinese qigong breathing exercises.” 根据“Driven to improve his health conditions, Perrin has learned qigong for 15 years and tai chi for 10 years,”和“Yves Perrin, 62,”可知,伊夫·佩兰52岁开始学习太极。 根据“To master more skills and become more skillful, Perrin learned from Chinese masters and visited China’s Beidaihe in 2015, where there is a center for qigong teaching, research and treatment.” 根据“As the leader of the French team, Ke said, ‘This trip deepened the friendship between the French people and the people of Guizhou. But a company in France is trying to make it easier. ②The company is called CETIA. It built two machines that use AI to recycle clothes and shoes. With AI technology, one machine can find and cut off zippers (拉链) and buttons (纽扣) on clothes, while the other machine can pull off soles (鞋底) from shoes easily. ③This sounds simple, but no one has ever done it before. “No one was recycling soles because it was hard to separate them from shoes,” said the director of CETIA. People had to put the shoes on an oven to melt (熔化) the glue and pull off the soles by hand. But CETIA’s machine can do it much more easily. ④Some clothes can be recycled into materials for houses or roads. But most clothes do not become new clothes again. That’s because clothes have different materials that must be separated carefully by hand. That usually takes a long time and is expensive. But CETIA’s machine can do the separation faster and better than people. It can even separate clothes by color and material, making it easier to recycle them into new clothes. ⑤Recycling clothes and shoes is important because it reduces (减少) waste and can even create new jobs. CETIA is doing amazing work by developing those recycling machines. They’re showing us that with smart thinking, we can find ways to solve big problems. 36. What is CETIA? A. A clothing store. B. A cleaning business. C. A technology company. D. An environmental organization. 37. What does the underlined word “it” in Paragraph 3 refer to? A. Pulling off soles from shoes. B. Separating clothes by color and material. C. Cutting off zippers and buttons on clothes. D. Putting the shoes in an oven to melt the glue. 38. Which is the best structure of the passage? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2…) A. B. C. D. 39. The writer wrote the passage to ________. A. explain the importance of recycling B. introduce a company and its inventions C. call for people to protect the environment D. make a report on a company’s development 【答案】36. C 37. A 38. D 39. 【36题详解】 根据第二段“The company is called CETIA. It built two machines that use AI to recycle clothes and shoes.” 【37题详解】 第三段提到“No one was recycling soles because it was hard to separate them from shoes”以及“People had to put the shoes on an oven to melt (熔化) the glue and pull off the soles by hand. But CETIA’s machine can do it much more easily.”,这里前面说从鞋子上取下鞋底很难,人们得用手取下鞋底,而CETIA的机器能更容易地做这件事,所以“it”指代的是“从鞋子上取下鞋底”这件事,即“Pulling off soles from shoes”。 A: Hello, Wang Kai. He showed that light does move at a certain speed. Over the years, other scientists like James Clerk Maxwell and Albert Einstein had more ideas about light and its speed. Today, everybody knows light travels at a speed of about 299,792,458 meters per (每) second. In simpler terms, light travels at about 186,282 miles per second or 671 million miles per hour! If we could go as fast as light, we could circle the Earth more than seven times in just one second. According to Einstein, nothing can travel faster than light in the universe (宇宙). However, some scientists are still studying and developing ideas about how we could go faster than light. The speed of light is an important thing to know in physics and other sciences. It has also given us a way to measure long distances in space. A light-year is the distance light can travel in one year. For example, the light from the Sun takes about eight minutes and 20 seconds to reach the Earth. The light from the next closest stars in our galaxy (星系) takes over four years to get to us. And the light from the farthest galaxies could take billions of years to reach us! 45. Did Einstein think light travels fastest in the universe? _________________________________________________ 46. How long does it take the light from the second-closest star in our galaxy to get to the Earth? _________________________________________________ 47. Ⅷ. 阅读填表 (每空一词) (10分) What do you think Americans in the early twentieth century did on weekends? What do they do on weekends now? Once upon a time, people spent lots of time at home on weekends. Then, new inventions changed the weekends. People used electric streetcars (地面电车) to travel in cities and they rode the streetcars to parks. Young people liked to ride roller coasters (过山车) there. The first movies lasted only one minute. Soon, however, movies got longer. In the 1920s, movie theaters sold millions of tickets each week. In 1927, movies finally had sound. Sometimes, people stayed at home instead and listened to another new invention—the radio. During the weekdays people in cities worked indoors, so they wanted to be outdoors on weekends. And bicycling became a popular activity. But now, with more time, money and inventions, people have more choices. They can visit huge parks like Disneyland and ride modern roller coasters that go higher and faster than ever before. They can choose from lots of different movies at a multiplex (a building with many movie theaters) or watch a video at home. Many people enjoy jogging (慢跑), riding bicycles, doing exercise at a gym, or playing other sports in their spare time. Others like watching sports games on their TVs, computers or cellphones. At the beginning, Mencius and his mother lived in a neighborhood close to a cemetery (墓地). Seeing people crying for the dead day after day, Mencius started to imitate (模仿) their actions and that worried his mother a lot. She was not willing to raise Mencius in sadness, so she decided to move to another place where she thought would be better for her son’s growth. However, nearby lived a butcher (屠夫) who ran his business by killing animals. Not long after they moved there, Mencius quickly learned to kill pigs and cut them up, which has surprisingly shocked the mother. And her anxiety (忧虑) made the third move to a new place next to a school. Luck for her this time, Mencius was deeply influenced by the scholarly atmosphere (学术氛围) and finally grew to be one of the best known educators and philosophers (哲学家) in history. The story of Mencius’s mother moving three times, also known as Meng Mu San Qian in Chinese, is to point out the importance of the influence that comes from the outside to kids. 28. In which part of a magazine can you find the passage? A. science B. life C. travel D. fashion 29. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about? A. How the students did the experiment. B. A great space dream D As the sun poured down on the trees and waters of a running river under Mount Fanjingshan, Yves Perrin, 62, dressed in his tai chi clothes and sat beside water, practicing traditional Chinese qigong breathing exercises. From April 7 to 19, a team of nearly 50 French kung fu fans visited Guizhou, and practiced tai chi as well as qigong with their master Ke Wen. Driven to improve his health conditions, Perrin has learned qigong for 15 years and tai chi for 10 years, and takes up the traditional Chinese practices from 10 minutes to one hour every day. To master more skills and become more skillful, Perrin learned from Chinese masters and visited China’s Beidaihe in 2015, where there is a center for qigong teaching, research and treatment. “Qigong and tai chi can help me take good care of my feelings and help me become more peaceful. It’s an excellent movement,” Perrin said. Now, Perrin also gives lessons and spreads knowledge of qigong and tai chi to his friends. “I love Chinese culture, and I hope it can help more people,” he said. As the leader of the French team, Ke said, “This trip deepened the friendship between the French people and the people of Guizhou. He had a meaningful trip in China. B. He travelled by ship around the world. C. He made some friends from Europe. D. He will lead Guizhou people to France. E ①There are challenges to recycling clothes. A. explain the importance of recycling B. introduce a company and its inventions C. call for people to protect the environment D. make a report on a company’s development V. 口语应用。(每小题1分,共5分) 阅读下面的对话,从下面7个选项中选择5个恰当的句子完成此对话,并将其序号填入题前括号内。 A: Hello, Wang Kai.
