二、短文填空
1
Once there was a small drop of water who dreamed of becoming a snowflake (雪花) and turning the world white. There was no rain for a long time, and he evaporated (蒸发). He rose into the sky and became part of 36 small cloud. Then he waited in 37 (silent) for his chance. When it turned cold, he fell as snow, but quickly melted (融化) on the ground. This 38 (happen) several times — he’d rise back, fall, and melt. He felt sad until he joined a big cloud 39 millions of drops. A few drops were ordering others, “The 40 (big) at the bottom! The smallest at the top! Come on! There’s no time to waste.” Feeling 41 (comfortable), the little drop wanted to leave. However, a teammate stopped 42 (he).
“Why not join our meeting for the snowfall?” the friend suggested. “Years ago, I tried alone 43 failed. Then I found this cloud, we share 44 (suggestion) and help each other. Cooperation is our key to success! Thanks to that, we’ve made amazing snowfalls!“ Hearing that, the little drop nodded happily.
Soon, both drops were flying down through the sky as snowflakes, with millions of other flakes, turning the fields white. The little drop’s dream finally came true, all because of teamwork and cooperation. He learned that what seems impossible alone can be 45 (achieve) when everyone works together.

阅读下面短文,在空白处填入1个适当的单词或用括号内单词的正确形式填空。
John Smith is an exchange student from New York. Here is a letter to his friend in his hometown.
Dear David,
How time flies! It’s been 3 months since I 46 (come) to China. I’m having a great time on my student exchange program here. So far, I’ve 47 (complete) got used to the life here and known a lot about traditional Chinese culture. I’d like to share some with you.
In China, there are many different kinds of traditional art forms, such as paper cutting, Chinese clay art and so on. Among them, the kite interests me most. The 48 (one) ancient Chinese kite appeared more than 2, 000 years ago. Then flying kites was spread into Japan, Korea and Malaysia during the Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty. Kites are considered as the earliest craft. They played 49 important role in the process of inventing the plane.
Tea culture is important in China. Tea was discovered as a kind of drink by accident about 5, 000 years ago. It is believed that tea 50 (bring) to Korea and Japan during the 6th and 7th 51 (century) . Tea didn’t appear in England until about 1660. The tea trade from China to Western countries took place in the 19th century. Now Chinese tea has become one of 52 (popular) drinks around the world.
Lastly, I would like to tell you something about one of the traditional Chinese festivals—the Mid-Autumn Festival. It is 53 the fifteenth day of the eighth month in the Chinese lunar calendar. The Mid-autumn Festival is a time for a family reunion, and people always go home 54 (enjoy) the full moon with their family.
55 you’d like to know more about traditional Chinese culture, I will talk about it in the next letter.
Best wishes!
Yours,
John Smith

Reaching New Heights
To most people, Mount Qomolangma is one of the 56 (great) wonders of the world. On the highest place on Earth, you will feel like you are able 57 (touch) the sky. But only the best climbers reach the top, and that is only if they survive the terrible conditions first.
Before 1960, no one was able to reach the top of Qomolangma from the 58 (north) side. Mountain climbers even called that way the “Death Road”, but a Chinese climbing team was 59 (determine) to make the climb.
On 24 May 1960, climbers Liu Lianman, Wang Fuzhou, Qu Yinhua, and Gongbu arrived at the Second Step. It was 8,600 metres above sea level. Liu allowed his teammates 60 (step) on his shoulders. Bit by bit, the climbers pulled themselves up, and they made it past the Second Step. At 4:20 a.m. on 25 May, the Chinese national flag flew above the world’s highest mountain for 61 first time.
In 1975, another Chinese team climbed to the top of Qomolangma to do research. This time, they brought a ladder to the Second Step. Until 2007, almost all 62 (climb) from the northern side used this “Chinese Ladder” to reach the top much faster. In 2020, a third team returned to Qomolangma to measure its 63 (high)—8,848.86 metres.
Climbing Qomolangma is dangerous. Some climbers reach the top 64 (success), but many fail. Why do people still risk their lives to climb the highest mountain in the world? It is because human 65 (curious) and ambition cannot be stopped. Or, it is simply “because it’s there”!
