As Elizabeth Stone once said, “Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” You send your child off to school and hope that the world treats the child kindly because when he or she hurt, you hurt. Surely it’s inevitable (不可避免的) that your child will experience hurt feelings at some point. So, it’s wise to be ready for those moments.
But what prepares you for the moment when the child you love so much unexpectedly heals the wounds of your own inner child? A mom, who goes by Soogia, posted a video on social media explaining a phone call she received from a parent of a student in her daughter’s class. The mom called to inform Soogia that their kids had been sharing lunch with each other.
Soogia wasn’t prepared for what came next. The classmate’s mother informed her that her son loved the food Soogia’s daughter brought to school and wanted to learn how to cook it too.
That may seem like a small thing to some, but the small gesture healed a little bit of Soogia’s inner child.Growing up as a Korean kid in California, Soogia had different experiences from her children.
“I guess I just never thought that my kids would be the generation of kids that could go to school and not just proudly eat, but share their food with other kids that were just so open and accepting to it,” Soogia said through tears. “They don’t sit there eating their food alone, feeling ashamed and wishing that their fried rice was a bagel instead or something like that. And I know, it sounds so small and it sounds so stupid, but knowing that their experience at school is so different from mine in such a positive way is just so hopeful.”
Soogia’s tearful video pulled at the heartstrings of her viewers who shared their thoughts in the comments.
“These Gen Alpha babies really are a different, kinder generation. I love them so much,” someone revealed.
24.What is the purpose of quoting at the beginning of the passage?
A.To illustrate the hard work of being a parent.
B.To stress parents’consistent concerns about their children.
C.To introduce the story about a child’s growth that follows.
D.To contrast the different feelings between parents and children.
25.Why did the classmate’s mother call Soogia?
A.To share a recipe for bagels with her.
B.To invite Soogia to prepare lunch for the children together.
C.To inform Soogia of her daughter’s understanding behavior at school.
D.To express her appreciation for the lunch Soogia’s daughter brought.
26.What makes Soogia feel comforted?
A.Her child can finally fit in with American society.
B.Her child has gained friendship and recognition at school.
C.Her child needn’t feel ashamed of their cultural background.
D.Her child can share their favorite food with their classmates.
27.What can we infer about Soogia’s opinion of the new generation of children?
A.Open-minded and inclusive. B.Adventurous and open-minded.
C.Tolerant and ambitious. D.Friendly and ambitious.

The family, wing length and wing color of tropical butterflies all influence their ability to withstand rising temperatures, say researchers at the University of Cambridge. They believe this could help identify species whose survival is under threat from climate change.
Butterflies use two strategies to fight against changing air temperatures: thermal buffering (热缓冲) — adaptive behavior like flying to a shaded area to maintain a steady body temperature, and thermal tolerance — dependence on physiological (生理学的) mechanism to prevent overheating. Both of these strategies are needed to deal with climate change. However, deforestation leading to a potential lack of forest cover means tropical butterflies may have to rely on physiological method.
Researchers cooperated with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI) to study thermoregulation (体温调节) strategies of tropical butterflies. To assess thermal buffering abilities, scientists collected data from multiple habitats in Panama. Equipped with hand-held nets, they took the temperature of over 1,000 butterflies and compared each to that of the surrounding air. To assess thermal tolerance, at STRI Gamboa facilities, a few butterflies were placed in a glass jar within a water bath with a steadily increasing temperature.
The results showed butterflies with large wings tended to have higher thermal buffering ability, but a lower thermal tolerance. Butterflies with dark wings were found to tolerate heat better than those with pale wings. Notably, butterflies from the Lycaenidae family with small, bright wings had the poorest thermal buffering and thermal tolerance abilities.
Lead author Esme Ashe-Jepson said, “As temperatures continue to rise, and forests get smaller and further apart because of deforestation, butterflies which rely on their surroundings to avoid high temperatures may not be able to travel between forests, or deal with increasingly common heatwaves.” If temperatures continue to rise alongside deforestation and loss of cool microclimates, there is a very real threat that we could lose many species in this family.
28.What might be the main focus of the research?
A.Survival strategies of at-risk butterflies.
B.Factors in butterflies’ heat-resistant abilities.
C.Butterfly species endangered by warming.
D.Physical characteristics of tropical butterflies.
29.What can be learned about the thermoregulation strategies?
A.Thermal buffering isn’t always possible to use.
B.Thermal tolerance tends to be more effective.
C.Thermal tolerance isn’t limited by surroundings.
D.Thermal buffering interacts with thermal tolerance.
30.How did the researchers reach their conclusions?
A.By comparing 1,000 different species.
B.By doing small-scale water-bath trials.
C.By referring to collected data of STRI.
D.By combining field and lab experiments.
31.What do the researchers find?
A.The paler-winged tolerate higher temperature.
B.Smaller butterflies have lower thermal tolerance.
C.Darker butterflies are hardest hit by heatwaves.
D.The larger-winged stabilize body temperature better.

We care about what other people think of us. The reality is that allowing others’ opinions to guide our choices and sense of self-worth can do us a great deal of hurt and harm.
FOPO, in short, is the fear of other people’s opinions. As human beings, we’ve been hardwired for millennia to care about what the people we care about, interact with, and seek to please think of us. Without strong social connections, our ancestors could not have survived. Today, though we no longer live with ever-present threats to our very existence, we continue to measure our capabilities and self-worth in relation to what the people in our lives — and increasingly, on our social media pages — think of us.
A June 2025 article in the New York Post described FOMO (the fear of missing out) as a hidden epidemic that “most people don’t know they’re partaking in”. Like FOMO, FOPO is a relatively new term that describes the dark side of our very human need and concern for validation (认可), inclusion, and acceptance from others. In a word, we base our self-worth on external conditions.
In the book The First Rule of Mastery: Stop Worrying About What People Think of You, Dr. Michael Gervais shared his perspectives on what makes our fear of other people’s opinions so harmful that it makes us “play it safe, and play it small, to avoid failure, rather than go for it”. Moreover, he cautions that caring too much about other people’s opinions can lead to disconnection from our inner strengths and sense of purpose.
The reality is that we all struggle to some extent with concerns and fears of negative judgments of others. It is critical that we should strive to shift our focus away from other people’s opinions to achieving our goals and realizing our own potential. We owe it to ourselves to focus on our goals and to strive to live our lives on our own terms, free of the fears of judgments of others.
32.What’s paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The reasons for FOPO.
B.The definition of FOPO.
C.The uniqueness of FOPO.
D.The negative effects of FOPO.
33.What is behind FOPO according to paragraph 3?
A.Poor performance.
B.A lack of special skills.
C.Insufficient preparation.
D.The absence of confidence.
34.What will FOPO lead us to do according to Dr. Gervais?
A.Become more independent.
B.Become more conservative.
C.Try to challenge ourselves.
D.Focus on improving ourselves.
35.What’s the author’s purpose of writing the last paragraph?
A.To describe a phenomenon.
B.To give a warning.
C.To offer a suggestion.
D.To prove a concept.

As the college entrance examination was approaching, I was under great pressure in senior three. I fixed my mind entirely on review every day, wishing to improve my grades steadily. The constant chirps from a bird nest in the old banyan tree outside the window always disturbed my study. 36 I even discussed with my classmates whether we could ask the school to remove the nest.
37 He did not criticize our selfish idea at all. In his reply, he told us that every small life should be respected, and we needed to learn to live in harmony with birds while pursuing our dreams. To help us study better, the school prepared thick sound-proof curtains and changed part of our evening self-study time properly.
We were moved by the headmaster’s kindness. 38 The teacher introduced that these birds were in their breeding period and would leave campus soon. She also told us the importance of protecting wild birds and keeping the ecological balance. My annoyance with the chirps disappeared little by little.
One day after class, I went close to the banyan tree to watch the nest. I saw the mother bird flying back and forth with food for her babies. The warm picture made me feel soft in my heart. 39
This experience has changed my attitude towards life. 40 I finally understood that real growth is not only gaining excellent academic results but also learning to be tolerant, gentle and respectful to all lives around us. This warm memory will stay in my heart forever.
A.I lost my focus completely.
B.I no longer saw the chirps as noise.
C.The headmaster replied to us warmly.
D.We attended a special biology lecture.
E.It taught me what real growth truly means.
F.I tried to find a quiet place to study alone.
G.Small and lovely lives deserve our care and protection

At the northern tip of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, 56 China meets Russia, Mongolia and Kazakhstan, lies Altay prefecture (阿勒泰地区), a region 57 (bless) with dramatic landscapes and rich culture. 58 (rough) the size of Cuba, it stretches from snowy mountaintops over 4,000 meters high to lowlands just 246 meters above sea level. A short coach trip can take you from glaciers to desert, even past herds of wild animals.
During my recent trip, I couldn’t take my eyes off the view. As the coach 59 (wind) through valleys, silver peaks shone in the distance while the green of birch forests filled the foreground. It looked like the Alps, 60 this wasn’t Europe. A blue river rushed beside us, matching our speed, its power reminding me how rarely I feel nature’s strength in the city.
Across the hills stand yurts (圆顶帐篷) of Kazakh herders, their animals 61 (wander) freely. The night before, I experienced throat singing for the first time — a sound that seemed very 62 (fascinate).
As we descended, the green grasslands slowly gave way to bright yellow desert. The 63 (vast) felt like stepping into a fantasy game, except that this was real. When the other passengers awoke, unaware of what they had missed, I sat amazed, lost 64 words to describe the scene I had just witnessed. If only I 65 (bring) my camera with me!

As a member of the school swim team, I know all about competition. Our Coach never lets us forget that winning isn’t everything. “Good sportsmanship makes a true athlete.” I was proud of understanding this lesson. But another contest challenged me.
It started in science class. After a month studying the solar system, some of us were chosen for Planetary Playoff, a game-show-style contest. Our opponent was Lynwood School. The week before the competition, our team met to practice. “My sister said Lynwood’s team will beat us easily. Everyone calls them the ‘genius school’,” Leo spoke up. “I heard they cheat on tests,” I whispered, “and they are all unfriendly.” Leo tried to stop it, “We don’t have proof.” But I argued, “We don’t have proof it’s not true, either.” As the words left my mouth, my stomach twisted. I’d always hated rumors (谣言), yet here I was, spreading them.
Soon, the talk turned mean. The more we badmouthed Lynwood, the more confident we felt. Putting them down felt like building ourselves up. Finally we were convinced we were the better team.
The competition day arrived. As we gathered in the school hall, I noticed some Lynwood team members glancing at us and whispering. A knot (结) tightened in my stomach — had they heard what I said? When the contest ended, we lost badly. I felt my face burn with embarrassment — we’d been so sure we’d win, and we’d been so mean about them. Lynwood school answered questions we had never even heard of. Without doubt, they easily took home the prize — pizza and cakes.
Then something shocking happened. Zack, a Lynwood student, approached with a warm smile. “Great job out there,” he said. His team soon joined, sharing their pizza. “We were so nervous we could barely breathe!” one admitted. Leo laughed. “Same here.” As Zack handed me a slice, my throat tightened. They weren’t unfriendly geniuses — just kids, like us. In that moment, all our rumors felt stupid.
注意:
1.续写词数应为 150 左右;
Leo noticed my unease, leaned in and whispered, “That’s true sportsmanship.”
“Zack”, I called, and he turned with a surprised look.

Unlike many people, I didn't play for fun, but competed in competitions. Hundreds of players go to a large building, usually a hotel, and against each other with strict rules. I did this until I was a teenager. The competition was strong. The interesting thing about playing card games in competition is how the watching crowd affects your ability to make decisions. Card games are all about thinking about moves. This is something we all have to do everyday. The cool thing about card games is that they keep your thoughts away from everything else. IT is pure thinking, but in competitions, people make simple mistakes that would seem crazy when playing for fun. In real life, we don't get to see our decisions and the results so clearly. As with card games, however, people watching and judging your moves affects your thinking more than you can imagine. For me, that is the real lesson of card games. As Elizabeth Stone once said,"Making the decision to have a child is momentous. It is to decide
to have your heart go walking around outside your body."You send your child off to school and hope
that the world treats the child kindly because when he or she hurt, you hurt.Surely it's inevitable
可避免的)that your child will experience hurt feelings at some point. So,it's wise to be ready for
those moments.
But what prepares you for the moment when the child you love so much unexpectedly heals the
wounds of your own inner child?A mom,who goes by Soogia, posted a video on social media
explaining a phone call she received from a parent of a student in her daughter's class. The mom called
to inform Soogia that their kids had been sharing lunch with each other.
Soogia wasn't prepared for what came next. The classmate's mother informed her that her son
loved the food Soogia's daughter brought to school and wanted to learn how to cook it too.
That may seem like a small thing to some, but the small gesture healed a little bit of Soogia's
inner child.Growing up as a Korean kid in California,Soogia had different experiences from her
children.
"I guess I just never thought that my kids would be the generation of kids that could go to school
and not just proudly eat,but share their food with other kids that were just so open and accepting to
it,"Soogia said through tears."They don't sit there eating their food alone, feeling ashamed and
wishing that their fried rice was a bagel instead or something like that. And I know,it sounds so small
and it sounds so stupid, but knowing that their experience at school is so different from mine in such
a positive way is just so hopeful."
Soogia's tearful video pulled at the heartstrings of her viewers who shared their thoughts in the
comments.
"These Gen Alpha babies really are a different, kinder generation.I love them so much,"
someone revealed.
24.What is the purpose of quoting at the beginning of the passage?
A.To illustrate the hard work of being a parent.
B.To stress parents'consistent concerns about their children.
C.To introduce the story about a child's growth that follows.
D.To contrast the different feelings between parents and children.
25.Why did the classmate's mother call Soogia?
A.To share a recipe for bagels with her.
B.To invite Soogia to prepare lunch for the children together.
C.To inform Soogia of her daughter's understanding behavior at school.
D.To express her appreciation for the lunch Soogia's daughter brought.
26.What makes Soogia feel comforted?
A.Her child can finally fit in with American society.
B.Her child has gained friendship and recognition at school.
C.Her child needn't feel ashamed of their cultural background.
D.Her child can share their favorite food with their classmates.
27.What can we infer about Soogia's opinion of the new generation of children?
A.Open--minded and inclusive.B.Adventurous and open--minded.
C.Tolerant and ambitious.
D.Friendly and ambitious.

The family, wing length and wing color of tropical butterflies all influence their ability to
withstand rising temperatures, say researchers at the University of Cambridge. They believe this could
help identify species whose survival is under threat from climate change.
Butterflies use two strategies to fight against changing air temperatures:thermal buffering
)-adaptive behavior like flying to a shaded area to maintain a steady body temperature, and
thermal tolerance一dependence on physiological(生t理学的)mechanism to prevent overheating.
Both of these strategies are needed to deal with climate change. However, deforestation leading to a
potential lack of forest cover means tropical butterflies may have to rely on physiological method.
Researchers cooperated with the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute (STRI)to study
thermoregulation (strategies of tropical butterflies. To assess thermal buffering abilities,
scientists collected data from multiple habitats in Panama.Equipped with hand-held nets, they took
the temperature of over 1,000 butterflies and compared each to that of the surrounding air.To assess
thermal tolerance,at STRI Gamboa facilities,a few butterflies were placed in a glass jar within a water
bath with a steadily increasing temperature.
The results showed butterflies with large wings tended to have higher thermal buffering ability,
but a lower thermal tolerance.Butterflies with dark wings were found to tolerate heat better than those
with pale wings.Notably, butterflies from the Lycaenidae family with small, bright wings had the
poorest thermal buffering and thermal tolerance abilities.
Lead author Esme Ashe-Jepson said,"As temperatures continue to rise, and forests get smaller
and further apart because of deforestation, butterflies which rely on their surroundings to avoid high
temperatures may not be able to travel between forests,or deal with increasingly common heatwaves."
If temperatures continue to rise alongside deforestation and loss of cool microclimates, there is a very
real threat that we could lose many species in this family.
28.What might be the main focus of the research?
A.Survival strategies of at-risk butterflies.
B.Factors in butterflies'heat-resistant abilities.
C.Butterfly species endangered by warming.
D.Physical characteristics of tropical butterflies.
29.What can be learned about the thermoregulation strategies?
A.Thermal buffering isn't always possible to use.
B.Thermal tolerance tends to be more effective.
C.Thermal tolerance isn't limited by surroundings.
D.Thermal buffering interacts with thermal tolerance.
30.How did the researchers reach their conclusions?
A.By comparing 1,000 different species.
B.By doing small-scale water-bath trials
C.By referring to collected data of STRI.
D.By combining field and lab experiments.

We care about what other people think of us.The reality is that allowing others'opinions to guide
our choices and sense of self-worth can do us a great deal of hurt and harm.
FOPO,in short,is the fear of other people's opinions.As human beings,we've been hardwired
for millennia to care about what the people we care about, interact with, and seek to please think of us.
Without strong social connections, our ancestors could not have survived.Today, though we no longer
live with ever-present threats to our very existence,we continue to measure our capabilities and self-
worth in relation to what the people in our lives-and increasingly,on our social media pages-
think of us.
A June 2025 article in the New York Post described FOMO (the fear of missing out)as a hidden
epidemic that"most people don't know they're partaking in".Like FOMO,FOPO is a relatively new
term that describes the dark side of our very human need and concern for validation ()inclusion,
and acceptance from others. In a word,we base our self-worth on external conditions.
In the book The First Rule of Mastery:Stop Worrying About What People Think of You,Dr.
Michael Gervais shared his perspectives on what makes our fear of other people's opinions so harmful
that it makes us "play it safe, and play it small,to avoid failure, rather than go for it".Moreover,he
cautions that caring too much about other people's opinions can lead to disconnection from our inner
strengths and sense of purpose.
The reality is that we all struggle to some extent with concerns and fears of negative judgments
of others. It is critical that we should strive to shift our focus away from other people's opinions to
achieving our goals and realizing our own potential. We owe it to ourselves to focus on our goals and
to strive to live our lives on our own terms, free of the fears of judgments of others.
32.What's paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.The reasons for FOPO.
B.The definition of FOPO.
C.The uniqueness of FOPO.
D.The negative effects of FOPO.
33.What is behind FOPO according to paragraph 3?
A.Poor performance.
B.A lack of special skills.
C.Insufficient preparation.
D.The absence of confidence.
34.What will FOPO lead us to do according to Dr.Gervais?
A.Become more independent.
B.Become more conservative.
C.Try to challenge ourselves.
D.Focus on improving ourselves.

As the college entrance examination was approaching,I was under great pressure in senior three.
I fixed my mind entirely on review every day, wishing to improve my grades steadily. The constant
chirps from a bird nest in the old banyan tree outside the window always disturbed my study.36
I even discussed with my classmates whether we could ask the school to remove the nest.
37 He did not criticize our selfish idea at all.In his reply,he told us that every small life
should be respected, and we needed to learn to live in harmony with birds while pursuing our dreams.
To help us study better, the school prepared thick sound-proof curtains and changed part of our evening
self-study time properly.
We were moved by the headmaster's kindness.38 The teacher introduced that these
birds were in their breeding period and would leave campus soon. She also told us the importance of
protecting wild birds and keeping the ecological balance. My annoyance with the chirps disappeared
little by little.
One day after class,I went close to the banyan tree to watch the nest.I saw the mother bird flying
back and forth with food for her babies. The warm picture made me feel soft in my heart.39
This experience has changed my attitude towards life.40 I finally understood that real
growth is not only gaining excellent academic results but also learning to be tolerant, gentle and
respectful to all lives around us.This warm memory will stay in my heart forever.
A.I lost my focus completely.
B.I no longer saw the chirps as noise.
C.The headmaster replied to us warmly.

As a member of the school swim team,I know all about competition. Our Coach never lets us

understanding this lesson. But another contest challenged me.
It started in science class. After a month studying the solar system, some of us were chosen for
Planetary Playoff,a game-show-style contest. Our opponent was Lynwood School. The week before
the competition, our team met to practice."My sister said Lynwood's team will beat us easily.
Everyone calls them the genius school',"Leo spoke up."I heard they cheat on tests,"I whispered,
"and they are all unfriendly."Leo tried to stop it,"We don't have proof."But I argued,"We don't have
proof it's not true, either."As the words left my mouth,my stomach twisted.I'd always hated rumors

Soon, the talk turned mean. The more we badmouthed Lynwood, the more confident we felt.
Putting them down felt like building ourselves up.Finally we were convinced we were the better team.
The competition day arrived. As we gathered in the school hall,I noticed some Lynwood team
members glancing at us and whispering.A knot()tightened in my stomach-had they heard what
I said? When the contest ended,we lost badly.I felt my face burn with embarrassment-we'd been
so sure we'd win,and we'd been so mean about them.Lynwood school answered questions we had

Then something shocking happened.Zack,a Lynwood student, approached with a warm smile.
"Great job out there,"he said. His team soon joined, sharing their pizza."We were so nervous we could
barely breathe!"one admitted.Leo laughed."Same here."As Zack handed me a slice,my throat

根据表格中Wildlife Biologist部分“Conducts studies on animal populations, tags creatures, and formulates strategies for habitat conservation. Ideal for those passionate about natural wildlife.(进行动物种群研究,对动物进行标记,并制定栖息地保护策略。非常适合那些对自然野生动物充满热情的人)”可知,野生动物生物学家的工作涉及的活动通常在户外进行,如果你喜欢在户外工作,你会申请野生动物学家。故选A。
根据表格中App Developer部分“Collaborates with businesses to create custom applications, addressing operational efficiency and customer value. Involves creative and technical challenges in a growing field.(与企业合作创建定制应用程序,解决运营效率和客户价值问题。在不断发展的领域中涉及创造性和技术挑战)”可知,应用开发者与企业合作创建定制应用程序,这表明他们将根据客户需求来创建应用程序。故选D。
23.推理判断题。根据第一段“If you’re attempting to take your first steps on the career ladder, this country is certainly rich with opportunity. In this article, we’ll be looking at 4 of the best careers in Australia and why they’re considered rewarding.(如果你正试图在职业阶梯上迈出第一步,这个国家肯定充满了机会。

第一段中引语后面的“You send ... hope that the world treats the child kindly because when he or she hurt, you hurt.(你把孩子送去学校,希望世界能温柔对待他们 —— 因为当孩子受伤时,你也会感同身受。毫无疑问,你的孩子在某个时刻难免会经历情绪上的伤害。)”是对引语中的“It is to decide to have your heart go walking around outside your body.(因此,为这些时刻做好准备是明智的)”的进一步解释,即你希望世界能友好地对待你的孩子,因为孩子受到伤害,你也会伤心。
同时第四段谈到“the small gesture healed a little bit of Soogia’s inner child”,同学的妈妈的表示稍稍治愈了Soogia内心的小孩。
故选A。

根据第一段中的“The family, wing length and wing color of tropical butterflies all influence their ability to withstand rising temperatures, say researchers at the University of Cambridge.(剑桥大学的研究人员表示,热带蝴蝶的科属、翅长和翅色都会影响它们承受气温上升的能力)”可知,研究的核心是影响蝴蝶耐高温能力的因素。故选B项。
根据第二段中的“However, deforestation leading to a potential lack of forest cover means tropical butterflies may have to rely on physiological method.(然而,森林砍伐导致森林覆盖可能不足,这意味着热带蝴蝶可能不得不依赖生理方法)”可知,热缓冲需要依赖森林等周围环境,而森林砍伐会导致热缓冲无法实现,即热缓冲并非总能使用。故选A项。
根据第三段中的“To assess thermal buffering abilities, scientists collected data from multiple habitats in Panama. Equipped with hand-held nets, they took the temperature of over 1,000 butterflies and compared each to that of the surrounding air. To assess thermal tolerance, at STRI Gamboa facilities, a few butterflies were placed in a glass jar within a water bath with a steadily increasing temperature.(为了评估热缓冲能力,科学家们从巴拿马的多个栖息地收集数据。他们手持网,测量了1000多只蝴蝶的体温,并将每只蝴蝶的体温与周围空气的温度进行比较。为了评估耐热性,在史密森热带研究所的甘博亚设施中,几只蝴蝶被放入装有水的玻璃罐中,水温稳步升高)”可知,研究人员通过野外实地测量(评估热缓冲能力)和实验室实验(评估耐热性)相结合的方式得出结论。故选D项。
31.细节理解题。根据第四段中的“The results showed butterflies with large wings tended to have higher thermal buffering ability, but a lower thermal tolerance.(结果显示,翅膀较大的蝴蝶往往具有较高的热缓冲能力,但耐热性较低)”可知,翅膀较大的蝴蝶能更好地稳定体温(热缓冲能力强)。

根据第二段中“As human beings, we’ve been hardwired for millennia to care about what the people we care about, interact with, and seek to please think of us. Without strong social connections, our ancestors could not have survived. Today, though we no longer live with ever-present threats to our very existence, we continue to measure our capabilities and self-worth in relation to what the people in our lives — and increasingly, on our social media pages — think of us. 故选A。
根据第三段中“Like FOMO, FOPO is a relatively new term that describes the dark side of our very human need and concern for validation (认可), inclusion, and acceptance from others. In a word, we base our self-worth on external conditions. (与FOMO类似,FOPO 是一个相对较新的术语,它描述了我们作为人类对获得认可、融入群体和被他人接纳的需求与关切中所存在的阴暗面。总之,我们将自我价值建立在外在条件之上。)”可推知,FOPO背后的原因是缺乏内在的自信,需要依赖外界的评价来确认自我价值。故选D。
34.细节理解题。根据第四段中“Dr. Michael Gervais shared his perspectives on what makes our fear of other people’s opinions so harmful that it makes us “play it safe, and play it small, to avoid failure, rather than go for it”. (Michael Gervais博士分享了他的观点,阐述了为何我们对他人看法的恐惧会如此有害——这种恐惧让我们“为了规避失败而求稳、畏缩,而不是去大胆尝试”。)”可知,FOPO会让我们变得保守,不敢冒险。故选B。
35.推理判断题。根据最后一段中“It is critical that we should strive to shift our focus away from other people’s opinions to achieving our goals and realizing our own potential. We owe it to ourselves to focus on our goals and to strive to live our lives on our own terms, free of the fears of judgments of others. (关键在于,我们应该努力将注意力从他人的看法转移到实现自己的目标和发挥自身潜力上。我们有责任专注于自己的目标,并努力按照自己的方式生活,不受他人评判的恐惧所束缚。)”可知,作者在最后一段旨在提出建议,告诉读者应该怎么做。故选C。

第二节
Version 1:
Leo noticed my unease, leaned in and whispered, “That’s true sportsmanship.” I nodded, the pizza slice heavy in my hand. Zack didn’t have to be nice. He had won, and we had been so mean about his team. But there he was, treating us like friends. I thought about all the rumors I had spread. The weight of them pressed against my chest. Coach was right. Winning isn’t everything, and good sportsmanship makes a true athlete. Zack was showing me exactly what that meant. I knew I couldn’t just sit there. I had to make it right.
“Zack”, I called, and he turned with a surprised look. As I walked closer, my heart pounded wildly. “I’m sorry.” My voice was shaking. “I started those rumors about your team. It was wrong, and I feel terrible now.” Zack paused for a second, then smiled. “It’s okay,” he said. “We were all just here to learn.” His kindness hit me hard. Zack taught me that you can win and still be nice, and you can lose without being bitter. Sometimes the best lessons come not from winning, but from the people who show you what true sportsmanship looks like.
Version 2:
Leo noticed my unease, leaned in and whispered, “That’s true sportsmanship.” His words struck me like a splash of cold water. There sat Zack, the victor, sharing his prize with the very team that had spread ugly rumors about him. My face burned as I watched them laugh and pass around slices, and my chest tightened with shame. Coach was right. Winning isn’t everything, and good sportsmanship makes a true athlete. It was at that very moment that I was firmly aware I must do something to make it right.
“Zack”, I called, and he turned with a surprised look. I walked toward him, my legs feeling weak. “I owe you an apology.” My voice was trembling as I forced myself to meet his eyes. “I started those rumors and I feel terrible now.” For a moment, he said nothing. Then that warm smile returned. “It’s okay,” he said gently. “We’re all just here to learn.” His simple forgiveness struck me so deeply that I realized the best lessons come not from winning, but from the people who show you what true sportsmanship looks like.

M: We have to recreate Galileo’s famous study for physics class. (6) Alessandro is standing at the bottom with a watch, waiting for me to drop them. (7)
W: Cool! Which one do you think will hit the ground first?
M: Don’t you know? Galileo proved that they’ll hit the ground at the same time, even though the basketball is heavier. I did it once, but the watch fell, so I have to do it again.

M: Sorry Sarah, (8) (9) you’re not allowed to borrow more than 10 books at a time. (8)
W: I know, but these are only seven books.
M: That’s strange. The system is not letting me process this request. You don’t have any others out?
W: I have three at home, (8) so I’m within the limit.
M: It says here there are eight on your account.
W: That’s so strange. I just returned five of them in the morning, so it should only say three.
M: OK, no problem. Let me just check those that you returned. The system has been acting up since the afternoon. I’ll be back in five minutes.
W: I think I’ll leave these here and come back tomorrow. I really have to get going or I’ll miss the last bus. (9)

W: The most important thing you have to learn is L.
M: The letter L?
W: Yes. Think of the shape of the letter. Now, make that shape with your legs.
M: Like this? I feel like I’m going to lose my balance!
W: Perfect! Now, shift your weight gently from one foot to the other and keep your arms relaxed.
M: It looks so much easier when the professionals do it. Even all the other students look better than me.
W: You seem like you work out regularly, so I don’t understand why you’re struggling so much. Are you overheated? (12)
M: Yes. I’m sweating so much, it’s hard to focus. (12)
W: That’s probably part of the problem. You should take a break and cool down.
M: I have a bottle of water in the car. (13)
W: You can also grab a cold drink from the café next door if you want.
M: Thanks, but I’ll stick with my own water. (13) Then I’ll be back on the dance floor.
M: The first time I slept outside, it was completely by accident. My friend and I were traveling in Australia. We were exploring near a small town when we missed the last bus back to our hotel. The next one wasn’t until morning! (14)
W: That must have felt so scary.
M: There were no people anywhere. But we were lucky. Since it was summer, it was warm even at night. You should always check the bus schedules when traveling to remote areas.
W: So you two just slept on the ground?
M: No way! Do you know how many snakes and spiders there are in Australia? We found two benches and slept on those. In the morning, we walked back to Newman where we had stayed before. (15) It took us about three hours, but the scenery was beautiful.
W: That sounds like such an adventure. I don’t think I could travel to the middle of nowhere. I like the hotels here in Beijing. I’m only here for two more days, though. Then I’ll fly back home to Paris. (16) Where are you staying?
M: I’m staying with my brother, actually. He’s been living in the city for five years.
M: When I was young, I used to play card games. Unlike many people, I didn’t play for fun, but competed in competitions. Hundreds of players go to a large building, usually a hotel, and play against each other with strict rules. I did this until I was a teenager. The competition was strong. The interesting thing about playing card games in competitions is how the watching crowd affects your ability to make decisions. (18) Card games are all about thinking about moves. This is something we all have to do every day. The cool thing about card games is that they keep your thoughts away from everything else. (19) It is pure thinking. But, in competitions, people make simple mistakes that would seem crazy when playing for fun. In real life, we don’t get to see our decisions and their results so clearly as with card games. However, people watching and judging your moves affects your thinking more than you can imagine. For me, that is the real lesson of card games. It is a lesson I still remember as an adult.
