Unit1
Men and women often do things in different ways. Scientists are curious to know the reasons. Through some research on the human brain, they’ve discovered some interesting facts.
Generally, women’s brains make them notice and remember more details more easily. They are more likely to think back to the smell in a room, the sound of a song, or the little things they saw during the day. For example, a woman might easily remember what her friend wore last week. However, men’s brains are more focused on the task at hand. A man will pay more attention to a single job until it’s fully finished. He might work on fixing a car without being influenced by other things.
These different thinking patterns also influence how they view their lives. Women usually see all sides of their lives as connected. If they have a bad day at work, it might influence their moods at home. However, men usually see each part of their lives, like work, hobbies, and family, as separate pieces.
In a team, men and women contribute differently. Women are more likely to share ideas and build good relationships among team members. Men, on the other hand, prefer to arrange tasks and make everyone work effectively.
Although men and women have their differences, both ways of thinking are important. They help us solve different problems and answer all kinds of questions in life.

Have you seen an apple tree when it has flowers? They are light pink at first and then turn white. They make the air smell sweet, just like honey. Apple trees do this on purpose because they need bees. The sweet smell brings bees to them.
Bees are a bit choosy. They don’t like flying when it’s cold outside. Windy or rainy weather also stops them from going out. Apple farmers know their apples need bees. So, every spring, they buy bees and let them fly freely. Usually, they put one honeycomb for each acre of the orchard.
When the weather is nice, bees start their job. They go to apple flowers to get nectar. While getting nectar, their wings touch the pollen. When they fly to another flower, they carry the pollen and help the flower get pollinated. Sometimes, a bee might use pollen from one kind of apple tree on another kind. That’s why a Red Delicious apple seed might not grow into a Red Delicious tree.
Farmers use a way called grafting to get the right apple trees. They take a small branch from a parent tree and connect it to a young tree. The two trees grow together. This way, there are many kinds of apples in the world. Next time you eat an apple, think about how bees and farmers help make it taste so good.

Hi Steve,
How are you? There are only two more weeks of school. I have some exciting news! Mum and Dad are taking me to Cape Town, South Africa, for the coming summer vacation. I can’t wait!
I’ve been doing lots of research about Cape Town online. There’s the famous Table Mountain. It’s so famous that I can’t wait to stand on the top and enjoy the exciting view. I also plan to visit the waterfront market to buy souvenirs. It is full of colourful stalls selling all kinds of things.
Moreover, the thing that I’m most excited about is going on a safari to see lions, elephants, and other wild animals up close. And guess what? Mum’s going to buy me hang-gliding lessons. I’m going to be a cool hang-glider! I feel a bit nervous but really excited.
We’re going to be there for the whole August. Even though it’s winter in South Africa, I heard it’s much warmer than our summer here. I’m going to pack some light clothes and a jacket just in case. I also want to try some local food, like biltong, which is a type of dried meat, and bobotie, a spicy dish.
By the way, Dad says we’re going to be in Newquay next weekend. Is there any chance that we can meet up? Let me know.
Love,
Jack

Should robots work in restaurants in the future?
There will be more robots in the future. Some robots can even serve in restaurants like human waiters. Now, more and more restaurants are using robots instead of people to serve customers.
Restaurants in the US have a hard time finding enough cooks and servers. So they begin to use smart robots to take the place of people. In the kitchen, robots can make burgers and salad. Some robots work in the front of the restaurant. Some robot-servers say hello to customers and show them to their tables, while people take orders. Other robots can take orders by themselves. People often put plates on and take plates off a robot that moves between the kitchen and the dining area. Some people think robots are the future of eating out. But others say taking jobs away from people is a bad idea. Should robots work in restaurants in the future? What do you think?
YES Three reasons robots should work in restaurants
①They solve the problem of not having enough workers.
②Robots help restaurants work better and maybe even save money.
③A restaurant with robots will draw more customers because robots are interesting and fun.
NO Three reasons robots should not work in restaurants
①When people go out to eat, they want friendly service from a person, not from a machine made of metal and plastic.
